A Highland Feuding #3

Prisionera de un highlander

Rate this book

It has a good beat, but I can't dance to it.

First off... the cover. I know that writers sometimes have no control over the cover. It is colorful, but is he Scottish? I thought he was suppose to be Scottish. Dubh means black haired. Okay.. I will go with that. His outfit... Scottish? Anyway... I will move on, who am I to judge. Wait, what is that in his hand? Okay, never mind. There is a castle and snow. I guess you are solid.

Blurb:

There's more to hardened outlaw Niall Corbett than meets the eye. Despite his merciless reputation, he's on a mission he must defend with his life. One that means taking beautiful Fia Mackintosh prisoner for her own protection!

Fia may have dreamed of being swept away by a gorgeous Highlander, but never of being held hostage by a gang of outlaws! While her head screams for her to run, her heart beats a little too fast for her captor, a man she shouldn't, yet can't help but trust…

Review :

Kidnapped by the Highland Rogue is a cute love story. If you like books without a lot of descriptions and settings, and go for the beef, then you will love this one. The cover does not do it justice. After 26% of the book, it picked up a little more for me and the story became more engaging. There were parts I got confused. When Niall was beaten, there really was not any writing about it, I went back three times to see for myself if I missed something, but I couldn't find any mention. Only that he was tied up.

The story was not strong, I had a hard time keeping focused on what was happening. I kept getting distracted. (movement outside my field of vision,my husband coughed once, and that threw me. My son flushed the toilet, the dog down the street barked, a car drove by,my foot itched three times.) Needless to say, I had to fight to keep my attention on what I was reading.

But I liked Fia, even without any common sense. Plus, I loved her name. I didn't really care or Niall. I could not see why she would fall for him, I know I wouldn't have. I don't care if he was doing or saying things for the right reasons, he rarely told her he was doing it to protect her. Protect her from his men, protect her from him, protect her from loving him. What ever. Be honest with her. Tell her, "Look, there cannot be anything between us more than what we give each other in this cave, this night." Instead he berates her to his men. I understand, she is a little slow, but he was harsh, and cruel. And he hit her, even if it was an accident.

Then, this gets me. He finds out who she is. She is a maid to a clans man. Uh oh. Before, taking her virtue was okay. Now, no. Can't do that. It's not noble. What a freakin' putz. I just did not think he was a well written hero. I don't care if he went all Officer and a Gentleman at the end. I would have blackened his other eye if I was her. Or walked away. Let him chase her, let him feel what he is missing. Let the angst flow!!!! Nope. No angst really in this story. Agh! I love me some angst. I want to call my next hero Angst. What do you think?

Honestly, someone needed to tell Fia how unromantic it really is to be taken and/or kidnapped. I mean , two , or was it three ? of the closest people in her life were kidnapped. (The odds of this are extreamly slim btw, unless the people of Scotland just went around kidnapping young girls every weekend. Guess it was the thing to do. Hey, have nothing to do today? Lets kidnap a village girl, who's with me? You would think that they would somehow put a stop to that. Those wild Scots!!! ) , and none of them thought to give her even a little self defense training. Carry a knife, wear boots when going to the village, Bite him in his randy parts, or kick him where it hurts, or just simply, run!

She had plenty of opportunities to get the hell away from these outlaw men. She even knew the camp they were in. Get on a horse, you dumb bitch ! Get the hell out of there!

At the very least, someone could have told her that her dreams were misconstrued. Add a little rape in there to scare the girl from wanting so badly to have someone kidnap her. Granted, in real life , things would not turn out as well as it had for the countless others in this story. But this is not real life, is it? I am not reading this book for real life. So all the men in this book are handsome. Okay... I can deal with that. But, her mistress could have told her something to make her not so eager to have it happen. I chalked her up as just a brainless girl.

I was hoping to get more back story about her time at the camp, and what she did while she was there, her experiences, etc. She once mentioned she cussed like a sailor because of her uncle Rob, but then reniged her story at the end, telling Naill that she never spoke with such language until she met him...this was after she had told him her mother washed her mouth out countless times with soap. We never got to see the wild side of her. She was always tripping and trying to get her balance. Was she flat footed? I am kind of flat footed, maybe she was also. I never thought of that.

My weak suit is descriptive writing, So I know just how hard it is to do. I believe this book would have really shone better with a little more.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank You.

Good book. Fia is lady's maid to Arabella, the heroine from the first book in the series. She is rather envious of the relationship between Arabella and Brodie, especially the "romantic" nature of its beginning. She dreams of being kidnapped by her own Highland hero and finding a love like theirs.

Niall is a member of the outlaw gang that has been raiding villages belonging to Brodie. When they raid the village closest to the castle while Brodie is away, Niall spots Fia. He is stunned by her beauty and knows that he needs to warn her away for her own safety. Unfortunately, he's not quick enough, and to save her from danger by two other outlaws, he takes her captive himself.

I really enjoyed the development of the relationship between Fia and Niall. Both of them are keeping secrets at the beginning, but it doesn't stop the attraction from building. Fia is not very happy that the reality of her kidnapping isn't anything like her dreams of it, but she makes the best of the situation. She doesn't let on to Niall that she knows their campsite very well. She plans to use that knowledge to help her escape. She also doesn't let on that she is closer to Laird Brodie than he suspects and that a rescue party is likely. I loved her powers of observation and how she watched everyone, trying to figure out who they are and why they are doing what they do. Niall is even less happy with the situation. Fia is a terrible distraction from what he is supposed to be doing. He has been sent to find out who is behind the attacks, something he doesn't tell Fia. He plays the outlaw very well around the others, but when he is alone with her his real nature comes out. Niall is trying to recover his lands after losing them. He is haunted by the guilt of some of the things he has done.

It was fun to see the two of them trying to hide their feelings from each other. There were some terrific scenes in the cave, especially involving the exchange of "boons". It didn't take long for Fia to fall for Niall, especially once she realized that there was more to him that first appeared. However, she doesn't hold out much hope for a happy ending. It takes Niall a bit longer to admit his feelings, but he also knows that nothing can come of them. After all, he is a nobleman destined to marry elsewhere, and she is just a village girl. I loved the protectiveness he showed, especially when he sacrificed his own safety to make sure she could get away. Naturally, Fia's feelings wouldn't allow her to just leave him, and I loved seeing her go back for him after the others were gone. Her strength of will (stubbornness) really showed in her determination to help him.

I liked seeing them get closer over his healing time, as they had the opportunity to talk more. Fia fell harder for Niall. Meanwhile, Niall realizes the biggest thing she needs protection from is him. I ached for her when they got to Edinburgh and he purposefully turned into a snob to drive her away from him. I ached for him too, as he really did love her and was torn between duty and love. He was stunned by her final gift to him, and felt even worse.

I knew they were going to end up together somehow, and I loved the way it came about. The scene in the great hall, between Brodie and Niall was great, though I also would have liked to see the conversation between him and Brodie after the conference. I loved Niall's big moment back in the village when he went after Fia. The epilogue was great and I loved seeing Mistress Murray and her reaction.

5 roguishly delicious stars. Honestly, fast-paced historical romances with some suspense thrown in are a weakness of mine. I don't recall ever reading Terri Brisbin but am insanely glad I grabbed this up. The story moved well and the characters were great. Overall, I was kept wanting more and desiring a happy ending between Fia and Niall.

Niall isn't what he seems and is doing what he must in order to redeem his family name and gain back all that he lost. He didn't mean to take Fia but that's what ends up happening and she gets under his skin in the most irritating yet delicious way possible. He eventually gains her trust and steals her heart.

The overall movement of the book is great, not too face and not too slow, yet there's a lot of information and detail. The world spins about you as you read the novel and things constantly shift because you get glimpses of things that change your opinion and thoughts of certain characters. The supporting characters are just as interesting and delightful as Niall and Fia are, as well.

Kidnapped by the Highland Rogue by Terri Brisbin
“A Highland Feuding” series, Book #3

Overall Rating: 5/5 Star

I have been reading Terri Brisbin novels for a couple decades and she never ceases to amaze me. As here she goes again in another magnificent novel readers won't be able to put down! This is the second Brisbin book in a row that made me cry! That says a lot if I am getting that emotional from the story and feel that much of a connection. If you are a lover of Highlanders and Scotland it's a must read for you. You can read this books as a stand alone book too. Just a bit more character connections and more fun to read in series order - in my opinion.

In this book and if following the series you will have met the heroine, Fia Mackintosh as a child and young girl in the first two previous A Highland Feuding” books. Now she has her own book and what a spectacular book it is!

Fia Mackintosh lady's maid to Arabella who is wife of Chattan federation chief, Brodie Mackintosh. Fia wishes someone would kidnap and sweep her off her feet too. Just like Both Chief Brodie and Rob Mackintosh, did with their wives. Fia finding it so extremely romantic and wishes this would be her future too. Well as they say be careful for what you wish for…..

The hero of this story Niall Corbett, who is the King’s Spy. Also, because of a past misdeed his family has lost their titles, property and homes which he is trying desperately to get back. His family is forced to make choices they normally wouldn't make or accept. Niall hasn't seen his family in years. The King is suspicious of these attack on MacKintosh lands. He suspects it is an outside force trying to start a clan war between clans Mackintosh and Cameron again. Especially since there has been peace for the past six years. So he has Niall spy for him in the disguise of an outlaw. So Niall can find out who is giving the orders behind these attacks. Then and only then would the King give back all that has been taken away from Niall and his family.

Now Niall is running with a gang of outlaws that would do anything for a piece of gold. In addition they are burning crops, killing livestock and recently even murder. Yet trying to make it look as if it were done by the Cameron clan. The ruffians leader Lundie, has not shared a name of the one he takes orders from. The one issuing orders of these attacks, the one name the King seeks!

Niall uses the name Iain Dubh and imitated the ruffians uneducated speech, looking dirty unkept, and wearing the worn dirty clothes they all wear and so on. Now while Brodie and many of his warriors are away - the outlaws are told to attack and pillage the main village close to Brodie's strongholds. Niall spots the most beautiful lass and tries to warn her away before it too late. Then two of the ruffians of the group saw the wee beauty and want to have a wee bit of fun with the lass. Not in an honorable way in the least so Niall has no choice, but one...

In an attempt to save Fia, Niall now known as Iain Dubh makes her his prisoner! He is also ruining her reputation the longer she remains in their captivity. People will assume the worse whether it happens or not. Sadly it's the way of the world at this time period. Yet the more time Fia and Niall spend in others company the more the attraction builds. Also as they get to know each other Fia starts to realise that this ruffian isn't the same man when alone with her, as he his with the other outlaws. Which man is he? The outlaw or the educated gentleman? Plus they are hiding in caves that Fia is very familiar with. Will Fia be able to attempt a successful escape?

Will Brodie and his warriors find her in time? As the longer she remains in their custody the more chances her reputation is in peril, as well as her heart. Will the other outlaws have their wicked way with Fia ot worse? Will Fia find out what this Iain Dubh really is hiding and who he really is? Choices and decisions will need to be made and no matter what is decided will it involve heartbreak and destruction? You will have read this exquisite novel to find out!

Terri Brisbin, The queen of Scottish historical romance does it again! As she pens another fast paced, non-stop action, mesmerizing riveting starcrossed romantic adventure! This book is filled with enchanting landscapes, breathtaking betrayal, and heartwarming passion. Plus feuding clans, secrets, lies, intrigue, mystery, suspense abduction, love and more. Problems seem to multiply and choices to be made, but what shall they be?

Again another exceptional Terri Brisbin novel the I highly recommend. Tugging at heartstrings, tearing up I simply couldn't put down! Absolutely loved it from start to finish! I can't wait for the next A Highland Feuding novel!

I was given this ARC from Harlequin publishers through netgalley for an honest review.

A bit of a dud this one :( I haven't read the previous books in the series and there were some strong references to them but it was easy enough to follow the previous character's stories. I was very bored and distracted throughout the book and Fia and Niall really didn't hold my attention.

Fia dreams of a passionate and everlasting true love, just like Laird Brodie & Lady Arabella, her employers. She is kidnapped by outlaw Niall Corbett and taken deep into the highland hills with his band of men. There is more to Niall/Ian than meets the eye, as he is on his own secret mission from the King and kidnapping Fia complicates matters, but he had to do it to save her from the nefarious intentions of the other outlaws. Fia can't help but be drawn to Niall as he is nothing like what he portrays and she sees through his rough facade to the nobleman beneath. Even though her mind says run, her heart whispers something else entirely and she longs to discover the real Niall.

Fia comes across as quite bland and boring and there wasn't anything memorable about her except for her dreams of love. I can relate to Fia's sweet dreams of wanting true love. Who doesn't want that? But that's about all I can relate to. She wants her story to happen exactly the same way as it happened for Brodie and Arabella (Brodie kidnapped Arabella and they both fell in love- first book in the series) and her mind just seems to be fixated onto this scenario, so I didn't feel like this was original enough for Fia's story. I do love a "kidnapped and falling in love with your captor, without major Stockholm Syndrome scenarios", but I just didn't believe the passion and the love between Fia and Niall. Niall also comes across as boring and nothing really stood out about him except that he was leading a double life. There wasn't an explanation on why the King had such a stranglehold on him, his family and his titles. Explanations and reasonings were all over the place which really made for distracting and uninteresting reading.

Fia and Niall were nothing special in my eyes, I wasn't lost in their love and there were some interesting references to Niall's male parts which felt out of place!

This is the third book in Terri Brisbin's newest series and I enjoyed it very much, as I did the first 2. The heroine, Fia, is a lady maid to Arabella, Brodies wife (Stolen by the Highlander). Fia hopes for a man who will love her as Brodie does Arabella. While in the village, Fia meets Iain, leader of an outlaw gang who kidnaps her to protect her from his gang. Fia sees a different side to Iain when they are alone. She falls in love with him, knowing something is not right with the outlaw he claims to be.

Iain, real name Niall, is working for the king to find out who is behind the attacks on the Mackintosh's holdings. He hopes to regain his family's holdings which were taken from them in the past. When they reach Edinburgh, he sends her to the Mackintosh house as he is busy trying to find the person behind the outlaw's attacks. Fia learns who the villain is and sends him the information. She returns home thinking she will never see him again.

However, this is a romance and there has to be a HEA. I don't want to spoil too much of the story as I hope you will read this book and the others in this series. I enjoyed it very much.

It was so-so. The writing as usual is wonderful, but the characters this time didn't click for me. Our heroine is a moon-eyed dreamer who yearns to be kidnapped because it's sooooooo romantic. She drifts about the place sighing gustily and creeping on married couples because watching them make-out is (blush, flutter, swoon) soooooooo romantic.

A raid happens, and she gets kidnapped.

Our handsome, roguish kidnapper isn't really a rough and ready outlaw, he's a nobleman on a secret mission by the king. No great spoiler here we're told right away. But he has to play the part, so he threatens to rape the heroine (when actually being extremely keen to do so because his 'randy bits' are telling him to 'plough her'). He treats her like shit, hard seduces her knowing it will ruin her life back home, mocks her, yells at her, roughs her up (even slapping her), and later on hard rejects her in an extremely cruel and nasty way so he can get rich again.

Through all this she continues to sigh and flutter and flap her hands at her blushing face because he's sooooooooo hot. She forgives him when he asks no forgiveness, goes out of her way to save his ass for which she gets no thanks, makes the first love confessi0n which he blanks, and agrees to marry him when he forces out a really lame and somewhat 'jokey' proposal.

I ended up thinking she's a total froo-froo idiot and he's a grade-A twat. Didn't want to cheer for either of them.

I good read. The heroine had a little bit more spirit than the last Terri Brisbin book I read and Niall, although an alpha male was not invincible, which is probably more realistic.
I could not get my head around the fact that the gang turned from wild animals to pussy cats as far a Fia was concerned, and considering that Fia knew the camp the gang stayed in like the back of her hand, I am surprised she did not find more opportunities to escape. That aside it was a vey good read still worth five stars.
I liked the epilogue, it added a nice finishing touch.

Forse, personalmente, mi sarei risparmiata qualche scena erotica.

It's hard when you fall in love with the man who kidnaps you. But that is what the heroine does in this story. Despite a slow start, too many extraneous characters from other books in the series, and a bunch of nasty men who turn meek as lambs when fed, if you like Scottish warriors and kick-ass Scottish maidens, this book will fit the bill. The ending is very romantic.

I'm not into Harlequin romance novels but I am into historical/pseudo-historical romance novels. I just subscribed for rewards to Harlequin and had to pick some books and when I came upon those pseudo-historical romance novels taking place in Scotland, I knew I would want to read them. Big fan of Scotland, loved the country when I visited it in 2006. Wouldn't mind moving to Glasgow or Dundee.

So far I'm curious to see how Fia MacKintosh, our heroine, is going to find her happily ever after she craves for and for which she envies Lady Arrabella who is married to the Laird of the MacKintosh Clan. Lady Arrabella is a Cameron and was before her wedding to Brodie MacKintosh an ennemy but the 2 ennemies fell in love and are very happily married and brought peace to their respective clans.

How romantic! Lol! Young Fia cannot help but sigh loudly when the laird shows his affection for his pregnant wife.

I know by the book cover Fia is supposed to be kidnapped at some point but will she get her romantic happy ending and be even happier than Lady Arrabella or will she have to marry Dougal, the Miller's son? More to come.

Well she gets kidnapped by Iain Dubh who actually is Niall Corbett, a down on his luck noble who must regain his titles and properties after his father was disgraced by finding out who has been causing strife between the Camerons and Mackintosh.

Fia is spirited, feisty, avoids rape but still falls in love with the handsome rogue who has kidnapped her.

Will Niall win back his titles and property? Will he and Fia end up together? What do you think? This is a romance novel so there must be a happy ending right?

It was entertaining but it didn't get me all swooning like The Wolf and the Dove had. Personally a bit too predictable a novel. You never feel like Fia is really in danger.

Would a rogue really try to not give in to his basest feelings especially if the object of his lust keeps taunting him and trying to find out how it is to play with a man? I doubt it. In reality it is a bit difficult if you tease into desire a man to have him control himself. He may not rape you but he certainly will not just kiss and touch you as at some point he will want more.

What I liked about this book was that it took place in the Scottish Highlands and it was why in the first place I bought it. Once you have been there, it is hard to forget the Scottish Highlands.

This novel is apparently one of a series and it’s not hard to guess which type we’re reading from the title. As if that weren’t enough of a giveaway, dialogue on the 18th page lets us know exactly what to expect. A Scottish chieftain by the name of Brodie Mackintosh is having a baffling conversation with his enchanting wife Arabella.

‘She wears the hope of a young woman seeking her first love in her eyes,’ his wife said, letting out a sigh much as the girl did. ‘She thinks that our beginning and Rob’s with Eva are romantic.’

‘I kidnapped you and held you against your will. Rob chased Eva, caught her and married her against her will. That is romantic?’ Brodie asked, shaking his head. No matter how long he was married, no matter how much he thought he did, ‘twas clear he did not and would not ever understand women. ‘I cannot fathom it.’

I’m right there with you, buddy, and I’m a woman myself. The fact that this idea of kidnapping, forcing a woman against her will into an unwanted marriage or chasing a woman until she’s caught like a hare is basically the running theme of these novels gives me the creeps. Someone says “romance”. I see “Stockholm Syndrome”.

Fia comes to grips with the idea that being kidnapped isn’t romantic after it happens to her and she runs the risk of being a camp plaything for a gang of brutal men. But she falls for the man holding her anyway, especially after he grabs her, terrifies her and compels her to bed down beside him by gripping her hair in his fist while he’s sleeping. Talk about mixed messages.

Niall Corbett a.k.a. Iain Dubh is a man of (some) honor, refusing to take advantage of the lovely and curious Fia Mackintosh. But honor isn’t enough to keep this reader from souring on this whole premise. You want to get a better idea of what men do to women they’ve kidnapped? Read Room by Emma Donoghue.

My Achilles heel is Historical romance featuring hot Highland hunks and spunky, spirited women. And, this book "fit the bill" exactly! I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it! This was one of the best reads I have had this year!!! Torn between duty and desire, Niall is an immediately-likable character. He's the perfect balance of ruffian and gentleman. Fia is the ultimate hopeless romantic and a classic example of "be careful what you wish for". When her girlish dreams of being whisked away by a handsome stranger become reality, she finds out she may have gotten a bit more than she bargained for.

This story is fast-paced, and Terri's descriptive style of writing really brings the characters to life. I'm anxious for the next in the series.

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, but that in no way affected this review. This is a 5 star read that is well worth purchasing!

I really enjoyed Niall and Fia story!

Niall is participating in a raid and kidnaps Fia to save her. She doesn't know that he isn't really a member of the raiding party but just participating to find out some information. This of course causes issues as Fia can't believe that she is falling for someone that could be so bad. But when they are alone, he acts like a different person. Their stations in life are miles apart, can these two work out their differences to get their HEA?

I really enjoyed this installment in the Highland Feuding series and am excited to see what Brisbin comes up with next!

A steady-paced historical romance that focuses more on the wooing than the sizzling scenes (which can be better). This novel is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. The MCs are likeable, and I did enjoy a female MC who believes in dreams and love, but the storytelling does feel rushed at times. One character I was really interested in was Alan, the tracker. I hope he gets to be the male MC in one of the next installments.

Never thought I would read a Harlequin Romance. Well, I did and there was not one heaving bodice to be found. That said-I can now check that off of my to-do list.
