Sex in a faux marriage can make things oh so real.
Dr. Caroline Graham is happy with her nomadic lifestyle fulfilling short-term medical contracts. No emotional commitments, no disappointments. She's always the one to walk away, never the one left behind. But now her great-uncle is gone and her grandmother is on her deathbed, more concerned about Caroline's lack of a husband than her own demise. What's the harm in a little white lie? If a wedding will give her grandmother peace, then a wedding she shall have.
Widower Travis Montgomery devotes his days to building the ranch he and his late wife planned before he lost her to breast cancer. The last piece of acreage he needs is controlled by a lady with a pesky need of her own. Do her a favor and he can have the land. She needs a quick, temporary, faux marriage in exchange for the acreage.
It’s a total win-win situation until events begin to snowball and they find, instead of playacting, they’ve put their hearts at risk.
Born and raised in Arkansas. After wandering the world for 17 years (okay, it was Memphis, but it felt like another world!), I've made it home again. I live in a small vine covered cottage on the shores of a 8,000 acre lake with 2 dogs, a bitchy parrot and my fisherman husband. Live is good.
What worked Kathleen says: I love the whole faux wedding theme. TRAVIS, the hero worked for me on EVERY level. The chemistry between Caroline and Travis was very believable.
Karla says: The sweet and touching storyline and the reasons behind the fake wedding. I will be honest the first chapter or so in, I wasn’t sure, I’m not a fan of deception, but when Caroline laid it all out for Travis, I was hoping he would agree to the plan. No harm, no foul…right? Maybe, but lies, even well intentioned ones have a way of snowballing out of control, and that’s exactly what happens. However, none of it was ever malicious, only well meaning. It was fun watching Travis and Caroline weaving the web and then watching them scramble to untangle themselves from it! The family element in the book. Caroline and Travis are front and center, but all the secondary characters, particularly Noah, play an important role and gave the book a warm homey feel.
What didn’t work Kathleen says: Once again, NO epilogue!!! For me epilogues are very important. Other than that, everything else worked.
Karla says: The ending was somewhat rushed and for all we went through with the characters, this story could have used an epilogue. It’s my only complaint. There is a conclusive ending, but I loved this couple so much… I wanted more.
Best scene(s) Kathleen says: I loved when Caroline and Travis were at Caroline’s grandmother’s hospital room, Travis treated Caroline so gently and helped her through everything. When Caroline’s brother Noah shows up, and blabs that Caroline and Travis are married. When Travis punishes Noah by making him muck out the horses stalls. The very best scene for me was when Travis shows up in Florida and tells Caroline he loves her and wants here to come back home with him.
Karla says: So many good times in this book, but I especially enjoyed the scenes that involved all the family members and of course the wedding…very bittersweet.
Favorite character(s) Kathleen says: Hands down my favorite character was Travis. Not only was he VERY SEXY, but he just rolled with the punches. He was gentle, kind, caring and VERY good in bed, the perfect hero all around.
Karla says: Travis!! Such a humble beautiful man, whose heart was always in the right place. He had nothing but good intentions and when he loved, he loved so deeply. He charmed the pants off of me! I really liked Caroline too. She wanted to do right by her grandmother, was honest and fair in her offer to Travis, and never tried to manipulate him. I really thought Travis and her made a great couple.
Overall Thoughts Kathleen says: This was an excellent read for me. I was totally entertained from the beginning to the end. I liked all the characters except one but you know a bad guy/woman in a romance always add so much to the story line. The love scenes were very SPICEY, just the way I like them. This was a fun read and I give it ~ 5 BIG Stars!
Karla says:Texas Tango had everything that I like in a book and plenty of it; great dialogue, steamy sexy fun, wonderful characters and a story that captivated me and touched my heart. It’s not overburdened with angst, although Caroline and Travis do have to try to stay ahead of the fabricated stories they spin and for them it was stressful, but fun for the reader. There is point when the tale becomes reality and it was sweet to watch it happen, as the two of them fall in love. This was a pleasure to read, and I was left with a smile on my face, but that smile was pretty much there from the first page to the last. ~ 4.5 Texas Sized Stars!

1. This started off rough, real rough. This book was slow, boring and I was waiting for some chemistry to spark until Travis Montgomery (eventually) saved the day. He was the perfect, sexy, cowboy gentleman. He was great in his relationship with Caro and as a "father-figure" for Noah. Caro was a decent heroin - not as annoying as she could have been, I guess. I really loved Noah.
2. One of THE funniest scenes I have EVER read happened when Noah showed up at the Montgomery household. I cackled out loud for so long at that. Good job, Mrs. D'Alba.
3. This is my first book by this author and I will sure to check out some more of her cowboys reads.
Dr. Caroline Graham was just biding her time in Texas. Filling in for Dr's was her specialty leaving her to jump from state to state, town to town without making any long-tern commitments. That is until she happened upon Whispering Springs and its inhabitants that included her great uncle , Angus Fitzgerald and a menagerie of Montgomery's. When Angus passes away and leaves his Singing Springs Ranch to her in his will, he throws a wrench into to carefully plotted out life. You see Dr. Graham hasn't had stellar life even though she achieves greatness in becoming a physician. Her nomadic missionary parents basically left their children on a family member's doorstep so they could traipse around the world taking care of everyone else's family but their own. Caroline's teenage brother Noah has had had it the worst since he is only fourteen and being pawned off to secondary family members too old to understand teenage angst and needs. Even Caroline doesn't know her own brother since she is over a decade older than her sibling and left as soon as she was able.
That being said, the one true beloved family member to Caroline is her Grandmother Mamie who is terminally ill and waiting on Caroline to return to her with a man, or more to the point, a fiance. She holds on with every expectation that her niece will find a husband and be happy. Caroline has been telling her grandmother that she has a boyfriend in Whispering Springs and she is truly happy, even though it's a complete fabrication.
Travis Montgomery is done with marriage. His wife died years ago of breast cancer leaving him devastated and never wanting to feel loss like he felt upon her death. He's also a very ambitious man, and when he hears that the coveted Singing Springs Ranch is in the hands of Dr. Caroline Montgomery, he wants it badly to add to his acreage.
The handsome Travis is never far from Caroline's thoughts. So much so that when her aunt backs her into a corner to reveal who her imaginary boyfriend is, she mutters his name before her head has time to rein her in. Now stuck, Caroline must devise a plan to get Travis to go along with a so-called marriage for her ailing grandmother and make Mamie content in her last days. Once Caroline divulges what she must do Travis is aghast, but when Caroline throws the ranch into to pot as an even trade, faux marriage isn't looking so bad to Travis.
Of course things like this never come out perfect hence turning lives upside down for the pair and their families. When it all becomes too hot to handle, Caroline thinks that jumping ship may be her only option, even after falling head over heels in love with her "husband". Travis also struggles with his convictions that become clouded by his ever-emerging feelings for Caroline. You have to wonder if these two will ever stop and take their inner-most feeling into consideration instead of their carefully plotted out existences.
Cynthia D'Alba has another winner of a tale here. This second in her Texas Montgomery Mavericks series TEXAS TANGO can be read as a stand alone, but I wouldn't miss TEXAS TWO-STEP and the prequel to this series. TEXAS TANGO is another one of those books that you can't put down until THE END. Miss D'Alba's sometimes stubborn characters make for one roller coaster of a ride in this tale of coming together, a tale of family and belonging, something that Caroline and Noah have been lacking in their lives and something that Travis can give them.
When Dr. Caroline Graham inherits a ranch he wants, Travis Montgomery thinks he will easily be able to buy it from her. After all, she is a traveling doctor and never stays too long in any place. Caroline needs her ailing grandmother to believe she's happily married. She proposes an exchange, and at first Travis says no. After all, he's still grieving for his wife, who died ten years before from cancer. But he knows he's attracted to Caroline, and soon they come to terms. A fake marriage brings Caroline more than she bargained for, including the steadfast support and affection she didn't know how badly she needed.
The strengths of this fun love story include a great supporting cast and well woven small town atmosphere. Great contemporary westerns are very difficult to find and D'Alba's series is a great place to find sexy ranchers and Texas life. The hot scenes border on erotic though the love story is sweet yet sexy.
I'm definitely going to read the rest of this series and more from this author.
Texas Tango is the 2nd book in the Texas Montgomery Mavericks series by Cynthia D'Alba. I thought I loved the first one and I did, but this second installment blew me away.
Dr. Caroline Graham was raised by her grandmother. Her parents were too busy traveling the world helping the less fortunate. As an adult, she has sort of carried on the nomadic lifestyle. She travels from town to town filling in when a need for a physician is there. Once the need is filled Caroline is on to the next place. Taking care of her great-uncle in the small Texas town is the closest she has been to setting down roots in years - she's made friends, is invited to family gatherings and now is a landowner, thanks to her uncle's will. Caroline had no idea how much her uncle's will could make her life easier and complicate it further at the same time. Her beloved grandmother is dying and all she wants is to see Caroline in love and settled. It seems like the perfect solution to offer Travis the land in exchange for a pretend marriage.
Travis Montgomery lost his young wife to cancer. It scarred him deeply, but he got through it. Surrounded by family and friends helped him to get on with his life. Working the land helped, too. He's wanted to get his hands on Caroline's uncle's land for years and now that Caroline is the owner he thinks maybe he has a chance. He can't exactly call them friends, but they are definitely thrown together often for family events. When around Caroline he always keeps a polite distance - she makes him feel things that are better left buried. Now, that she's presented him with his lifetime dream he is not at all sure what to do. He doesn't typically abide by lying for any reason, but the more he gets to know Caroline he sees that she is a good person with a huge heart. Now, he just has to find a way to hold onto his heart.
I can not say enough about this book. I know it seems that this premise has been done and re-done a million times. And honestly, I was a bit concerned myself. Cynthia does it right, I promise you. The bond that Travis and Caroline form the more they get to know each other is so fun to witness. I love how Travis accepts Caroline's brother and welcomes him - treating him like he's always been a part of the family. The Montgomery's are a joy! I'm sure you will love them as much as I do!
I enjoyed this story with a variety of events centered around a romance. Both hero and heroine had well established independent lifestyles yet maturely adapted to changing circumstances although the sexual aspect seemed a bit abrupt. Doctor Caroline inherits a ranch from her great uncle and his neighbor Travis has been trying to buy it for years.
Caroline is in the last 6 months of a 2 year contract working in a medical clinic in Texas. She's been moving place to place as a traveling Dr for years but has never stayed this long anywhere. Since she's been there she's become close with the Montgomery family. She's attracted to Travis Montgomery but he's never really spent more than 5 minutes talking to her over the 18 months she's been there. Now her great uncle has passed away and left her his ranch. A ranch Travis has always wanted. Caroline's parents have never been around and she and her much younger brother were raised by her grandmother and is now dying as well. All her grandma Mamie wants is to see Caroline married before she dies so Travis get enlisted to fake marry her. They make a deal. He marries Caroline and she will gift him the ranch. It all seems so simple until it all falls apart. This was a great book. Travis is such a sweetheart. It's hard to find a man as giving as this one. He's Caroline's rock with all the stuff that happens in her life. They fall in love but past hurts and pride keep them from saying so. Throw in Travis' boisterous nosy family and Caroline's 14 yr old brother showing up and spilling the beans and it's a mess. This book is a little predictable but i enjoyed it so much it didn't matter. The sex scenes were way more hot than i expected and i can't wait for book three.
Picked this book up at about 11 this morning and could not stop until I got to the last page! I am a huge fan of cowboy romance novels and am rarely surprised. But this series is bright and fresh, the love stories have their twists and turns just like dance steps and in the end you get your happily ever after. It truly has it all,Caroline is exactly the smart , fierce heroine that I love to read about she can handle things on her own and get through just fine but she quickly realizes that cupid has other plans for her in the shape of Travis Montgomery, and the rest of the journey was filled with a grand scheme and some shenanigans haha and eventually riding off into the sunset. Absolutely loved it!
4.5 I enjoyed this book so much. Cynthia D'Alba has woven a wonderful story about two characters that are meant to be together. Travis is one of the sexiest cowboys out there and very family oriented. Caroline is strong and prides herself on standing on her own two feet and not leaning on anyone. She will do anything to make dying a Grandmother happy and comes up with a outlandish scheme. That just might backfire on her. I loved everyone of the secondary characters and I can't wait for the next book in this series.
She's a traveling doctor, he's a widower, she needs a husband and he wants her land ...... The romance that ensues after Travis and Caroline strike a bargain is real, fun and with a little drama thrown in for good measure. I couldn't put this one down after I picked it up. The story was great, the characters were down to earth and I loved the serenade with a Chris Young song. Pick up Texas Tango and you won't be disappointed!
Loved this book. I had an arc ebook in exchange for a fair & honest review. I dont usually read contemporary bboks but hey, give me a re read and i'm happy! I loved this book. I was hooked after the first couple of paragraphs. This book has all my favorite things and I simply could not put it down. I'm looking forward to the other books in this series. Read and enjoy! You won't be sorry.
When Dr. Caroline Graham's great uncle James dies, he leaves her the Singing Spring Ranch. The will also stipulates that it cannot be sold to a Montgomery. Not sure about selling, she has the land appraised. She also has worries about her grandmother Mamie with her health failing rapidly. Every time they speak, her grandmother pushes for her to find a good man.
Unfortunately during one conversation, a good man was standing outside her office talking to Lydia, her partner in the clinic, and Travis' brother Jason's fiancé. That's when all the trouble begins.
Travis Montgomery Lost his wife to breast cancer ten years ago, he doesn't want a relationship and has made it clear he will not marry again. Not that it stops some women, especially twice divorced Elsie Belle, she has decided he will be her next husband.
Now Travis has always had his sights set on owning Singing Springs and is trying to give Caroline the time to decide if she's going to sell. When she calls and asks him to talk, he assumes it's about the ranch. Boy is he in for a surprise.
Oh the tangled web. Noah is Caroline's younger brother, he also was being raised by Mamie, and with her passing he is left with their Aunt Leslie and Uncle Patrick. Their parents off doing their missionary work in Rwanda, it was always somewhere, that's why they were with Mamie to begin with.
Noah shows up at the most inopportune time and blows their secret out of the water in front of the whole Montgomery clan.
It just keeps getting better and better, did I mention Elsie Belle? I laughed a lot throughout this book. The situations are so realistic, well except for the fake marriage thing, bringing drama, love, and family to the surface on every page.
A romance that maybe shouldn't have blossomed indeed does, and the heat turns up exponentially. I just can't get enough of this family!
I think that Ms D'Alba is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. Texas Tango hit all the right spots for me with romance, a bit of drama and a whole truckload of humour. I loved both main characters, but Travis really captured my heart. If it wasn't unrealistic to fall in love with a book hero, Travis would be my new crush! A fake marriage built on convenience, both Caroline and Travis were holding firm to the “just friends” stance they had taken, hopelessly trying to ignore the burning attraction between them. I loved the way the romance built and the humour was delightful. During the “big reveal” chapter I was cringing even as I laughed until the tears ran down my face. Having a very small family, I found myself longing for the comradery and closeness of the Montgomery family, where everyone was loved and cared for. In contrast, Caroline's parents were incredibly selfish in their dedication to their life's work. It brings to mind the Biblical proverb that “Charity begins at home”. Whilst this book was very humorous in many ways, it also left me feeling sad for Caroline and her brother Noah. I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written book and am looking forward to reading further novels in this series. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I am loving this series! This is a marriage of convenience between the temp doctor in town and a widower cowboy. Add in a surly 14 year old boy to raise, funny secondary characters and some steamy sex and it was a great read.
The Good: The characters are fully developed. I love that Caroline is a doctor with her own life, and isn't a pushover. Travis is sweet and sexy and I found him much more attractive than Mitch, the previous hero in the series. The sex was steamy and I definitely felt the sexual tension, perhaps I could have had it a bit grittier which Travis seemed capable of. This was a sweet sexy western and I am looking forward to reading about the rest of the characters.
The Bad: I would have enjoyed more tension between the main characters. I don't think they ever faught. I was disappointed in Caroline's treatment of Noah. I think a bonding scene between the two of them would have been a nice addition, instead, Travis basically did everything and was a bit of a hardass. Noah's behaviour just sounded like he wanted attention from Caroline...the authoritive heavy hand with him instead didn't work for me. I was also surprised that the villain was a jealous woman again . I hope the third book has a different baddy as I'm not a fan of the pscho ex girlfriend trope.
When I think of Texas, it comes with cowboys, dust, and strong men and women. I don’t think any weak would survive there. The author captures that so well in all her stories and this one is no different. Love that the women are kickass and take no prisoners!
Dr. Caroline Graham puts her grandfather to rest only to find out that he left her his ranch with the stipulation that she not sell to the neighboring family. She has a manager so she hopes he can keep it running while she travels around being a short term contract doctor. She’s been working in Whispering Springs and spending time getting to know her grandfather but the contract is ending and she’s moving on.
Travis Montgomery is pretty sure that he will finally get that last piece of property to make his ranch complete. He isn’t expecting that he would have it offered to him in such an unusual way. But he’s willing to meet those conditions and enjoy it along the way.
These two are sure that they can put emotions aside and both will get exactly what they want and need, then move on. And we all know how that’s going to go! Enjoyed this immensely and looking forward to the next story in the series!
Texas Tango by Cynthia D'Alba is book 2 in the Texas Mavericks, Whispering Springs Series. This is a very different scenario than the first book in the series. While it may seem like a second chance romance at least for the male main character, this couple do not have a history. Still it has wonderful characters and a great sense of place. Dying wish by a beloved family member and a younger sibling who suddenly makes an appearance, adds not only to the interest in the story but in the reader’s ability to understand Dr. Caroline Graham.
Widower Travis Montgomery is the most stable, homebodies of the two. He is not without his own heartbreak which served to make him even more human in his reactions and personal goals. It was no wonder that unwillingly Caroline would be attracted to him. Support, stability and loyalty are qualities that would cause any woman to fall, making Texas Tango a steamy hot Texas story with a charming and good cowboy.
4.5 Stars The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This second book of the series a great addition to the series. This one centers around rancher Travis Montgomery and Dr. Caroline Graham. She is on a temporary assignment at the local clinic. Caroline has just inherited a piece of land that widower Travis has been eyeing for years. When he offers to buy it, Caroline’s inheritance prohibits her from selling it to a Montgomery. But she proposes a trade. He goes through a faux marriage with her to be officiated by her dying grandmother, and she’ll give him the land. As expected the best laid plans tend to go haywire. As time goes on , their relationship flourishes, her teenage brother needs her, and her contract is about to terminate. Aside from all the lies, and make believe, the story is one of new beginnings, hope, and finding love. Will they have their HEA, or will keeping their true feelings a secret thus making them lose that opportunity? Can’t wait what else the author has in store for us in the next book. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
4.5 Stars Great story and such fantastic characters. I actually felt like I was standing there watching it all happen in front of me. This is book 2 in the Texas Montgomery Mavericks series and it features a very sexy cowboy, Travis Montgomery and Dr. Caroline Graham. They started with an unconventional relationship. You do this for me and I'll do that for you but quickly turned steamy with lots of sex and then...feelings got involved. Of course they didn't have the greatest communication skills. During the entire "friends with benefits" ordeal, their friendship really was something to envy.
Definitely looking forward to more sexy cowboys in book 3.
Caroline just wanted to make her dying grandmother happy before she left this earth. She convinced Travis to play along and everything went to pot.
Travis and Caroline were a fun couple to read about. It was fun to watch them fall in love because they were given permission to fall because of the little white lie that they told. I loved that they both understood pain and what each other needed in their time of need.
I really enjoyed watching Travis be a father figure to Noah. He was firm but fair. He understood what he was feeling but wasn't going to let him get away with being disrespectful.
In "Texas Tango" we are brought back to Whispering Springs, Texas Book 2, by Cynthia D'Alba. I picked this easy to read, romance book and didn't put it down. As much as I liked the first book in this series I really liked the second book. Dr. Caroline Graham and Travis Montgomery's story. She has something he wants, land that was left to her by her Great Uncle who passed away. He has something she wants, to be married before her Grandmother dies. They work out a deal, but things don't go as they've planned.
I do like how characters are interwoven throughout all of the stories and how they support and assist each other. The location is a strong supporting character.
This story concerns Travis and Caroline, a fake marriage that evolves into a real genuine relationship based upon love. An exciting twist is the surprise pregnancy for the h who was told that this was a remote, if at all, possibility.
Miscommunications and assumptions almost derailed their relationship. In the end, both acknowledged what everyone else already knew: they loved each other.
I loved the slow romance between the doctor and the cowboy. I loved them both holding back while they fell in love, and the little side stories about their families. it was all woven together very well. This was a very satisfying read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Anything by this author is top notch! Ive never been disappointed by one of her stories!
This is a great book as are all of the Whispering Springs books, but this one really kept my attention! It’s about a ranch, another ranch,a phony marriage and a Doctor with a teenage brother. This all adds up to lots of trouble, but it ends up to be fun trouble! This is one book I really didn’t want to see end,it was that good! So I hope you enjoy it as well!
I am loving this series and this is only book two. This story about Travis and Caroline has so many levels of trust having to be earned from both. The secondary characters bring out the story to round out how everything falls into place. A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start.
Cynthia D'Alba has a way of making the characters in her book come to life. The relationship between Caroline and Travis becomes more interesting throughout the book. It was a wonderful sexy romance. I really enjoyed this books. I am looking forward to reading the rest of them in this series!
I loved this book and family, they are great!!!! I cant wait to read the next one and then cashs story...I would recommend this series to all my friends to enjoy and read for great family values and manners and most of all family gatherings ...
Again with the abrupt ending. *sigh... I loved this story and characters even more than the first book in this series. I literally LOL'd many many times. Seriously! Loved it! Just wanted a little bit more at the end. I'm moving on to book 3 😀
The attraction was evident to every body, but they did not act on it until she needed his help to make her grandma's dying wish come true. The story unfolds with dealing their fake arrangement. Enjoyable!
