I shouldn’t have taken a job I knew nothing about, but I was desperate. My new boss was sinfully hot, and did I mention he’s a billionaire? Too bad he’s also rude and domineering! I tried to ignore my feelings, I wasn’t looking for a relationship... and then he had to go and save my life. He warned me falling in love with him was dangerous, but I might not be able to stop myself. Will I discover the truth about my mysterious employer before it’s too late? (A sexy, fast-paced paranormal romance)
Eric Steele is a billionaire and has an ad for a live in assistant so there are a lot of people that come for the job but when he abruptly stops the interviews and sends people home, Crystal is at the end of her rope and barges into his office pleading for the job. To her astonishment she gets the job but he boss is a grumpy jerk. Still, she's up to her ears in debt and has no money so she's happy for the job.
Crystal's jobs around the mansion seem to be cooking while the cook is on vacation, re-organizing the kitchen pantry, getting the shopping done and any other list of things that Eric gives her. When she gets into an accident on the way back from the market and Eric comes to her rescue, I thought that his gruff behavior would tone down a bit but it doesn't.
Eric had weird rules and his mansion had murals of death and destruction. At first Crystal thought the place had just been decorated in some sort of gothic manor until weird things started happening and she saw what he was hiding behind the door that he told her to stay away from. I knew this story was going to have some kind of paranormal twist because he told her to stay in her room between the hours of 10pm and 8am. But I had no idea what the paranormal twist would be. I just know that whatever I had been thinking of, I was way off, way off. I really liked the twist that this book came with but it ended kinda quickly, it seemed rushed after the story and sexual tension had built so slowly. I would be interested in reading the next book though because I'm definitely interested to see what else happens with these characters.
Crystal Banks finished her degree with honors the valedictorian of her class she found in bed with her now ex boyfriend.
Mr Cheater belongs to the family that runs the largest publishing house in the City - and he adds insult to further injury - he blackballs her at the other publishing house - apparently rather extraordinarily. A cruel twist since the apartment they shared was in his name, so she was unemployed, and homeless - and who would want the sheets back after finding him doing the nasty with someone else on them.
As she exits what was to be the last of her horrible interviews of the day, she spots a long line of folks at Steele Corp. Assistant sought, housing included. Salary insane. Unfortunately, not the only thing exceptional about the position - which she is hired for immediately at the recommendation of the beautiful blonde by the side of the CEO.
Some bizarre conditions are attached - a childish curfew no out of the room between 10 pm and 8 am. Entire wings off limits.
Condescending attitude from her boss. Too bad she finds him attractive anyway.
A cataclysm of suspense filled romance and bizarre supernatural adventures collide in a way both frightening and amusing.
I received an advance copy of the book. I read the book on Kindle.
Crystal just caught her boyfriend, who she lived with, cheating on her and the bastard had the audacity to have her blacklisted from every publishing firm in the area. Hoped she would come crawling back and play nice. So with the threat of homelessness and the crushing pressure of student loans looming she dashed into a job interview as the personal assistant for billionaire Eric Steele. He whisked her off to a secluded mountain home, forced countless tasks on her, and gave strict rules. Too bad he was a rude standoffish jerk because that man had a body to drool over. However his secrets may prove worse than his curfew. I got this book on BookBub in 2017. I have always had a soft spot for paranormal romances so got it without reading the synopsis. If you've read my reviews before you know this is not uncommon for me when it comes to books I get for myself versus books I am requested to read. I get myself into trouble a lot with this, but hey you win some you lose some. In my defense I only review the books I actually finish. Moving on.
I want to start by saying I liked Crystal and was even fine with the whole journal entry format of the book. A bit odd, but something different isn't always a bad thing. But, that being said I hated that it was in past tense. Yes, I and most every other romance reader knows that a happily ever after is basically guaranteed. I enjoy this. That being said, when there is a life risk I want to feel as if our character might actually die. I know they won't, but it is the thrill. Past tense removed that. Then there was the three-dollar words. Yes, I know she has a publishing degree. Yes, I know it is her journal because it is stated once. I don't know. I just feel like it detracted, especially with how Crystal was very immature. Not kidding. My favorite line in this book was "Holy intestines, Batman! That's disgusting!" Not kidding. Like I said, though, it was my favorite line which probably says something about my own maturity level. What can I say, I am 25.
Other than those things this is your basic shifter romance. With a little bit of billionaire romance thrown in for good measure. Standoffish rich boss hires poor employee and solves all of her problems including sexual. Although there isn't a lot of sexy time in this book. Since this is a series maybe later on. Not sure though considering when I went in search of this book on Amazon it was missing. Did a Google search and found that you can actually get it on Amazon, just not as an eBook. Weird, I know. But, the paperback is less than $3, so I say go for it. I have a feeling this author had a very strong love of Beauty and the Beast. With warnings like "Stay out of the West Wing." and a massive drool-worthy library it was a bit obvious. Not that I am complaining. Love me some Beauty and the Beast.
Crystal has worked hard to get her schooling. After catching her boyfriend cheating he black balled her with all the companies in her field when she wouldn't take him back. His powerful family and their business connections made it easy. She has no money, no home, no job, and no friends to depend on for help. As she is walking away from the last place she had on her list of places to apply to she sees a long line at a business after asking a girl in line what was going on she lined up too. Having no idea of what the job really had to do but being desperate she forced her way in after waiting for hours when they said they weren't going to do anymore interviews. She has no ideal how or why Eric (warrior bear shifter) hires her when he certainly didn't seem to like her but the woman in the room told him she was the one (no one ever explained what that meant). She talks inside her head a lot. These two are in constant battle mode it seems as they try to figure things out but finally after a vampire(she had no idea that vampires, shifters or witches exist) attack on her (and her rescue by a big bear) Eric answers her questions. Her view of everything in her life changed from her refusing any contact with her family(that hasn't changed yet but she knows it will need to be...later), her ideas about the rules Eric said she has had to follow (she does change the rules of her job), what her job is really and what she is paid, to what is their relationship. This is a real fun story with lots of surprises. I hope to be able to read much more from Josie Walker.
Something Shifter This Way Comes by Josie Walker is an incredible book. This book’s female main character Crystal is loaded with personality. She is snarky, snide, talks to and answers herself and is a perfect foil for the male main character Eric. Crystal views Eric as handsome, cold, demanding, snobbish, and stand-offish. He is her rich billionaire employer and she is just his lowly assistant. In the beginning of the story, Crystal is in immediate need of a well paying job since she is currently homeless and up to her ears in educational debt. After she gets hired by Eric Steele a reclusive but gorgeous billionaire she can’t figure out if she wants him and/or if he wants her in return. The continual sexual tension between these two characters make the story climb to sexy, sensuous, highs without ever completing the actual deed. These interactions between Eric and Crystal plus Crystal’s irascible humorous personality with her ongoing inner dialogue drove me to keep reading until the very end. This story is a wonderfully original story full of suspense, mystery, and because it is set in a hauntingly beautiful mansion far out in the woods in the middle of nowhere it has the feeling of a gothic novel while still being entertainingly humorous, witty, with a completely unpredictable ending that is a complete surprise. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read since I believe this story will appeal to a variety of readers.
Crystal is having a very bad week. She's just received her Masters degree and then finds her boyfriend in bed with another woman. Now she's homeless, with bills due and finds when she goes to her job interviews her ex-boyfriend has had her blackballed from her profession. She then happens to see a line for an interview to be the Billionaire Eric Steel's personal assistant. She decides she can do this even though she will be expected to live in an isolated location. She is very outspoken and decides she has nothing left to loose at this time so agrees to his terms even though she thinks he's rude. The personal interaction between the two keeps you interested. The problem I have with the story is I found Crystal talked to herself too much, also I kept waiting for shifters to appear and I believe it wasn't until the end before you actually see who's a shifter. I guess when I saw the title of the book I assumed that you would meet shifters by the third chapter not the last. I understand that the story is going to continue in the next book but I really thought It could have been better. But the story is good.

Crystal has a brand-new master’s degree in English. She also has a jerk, cheating ex-boyfriend who’s determined to block her from using it. She desperately needs a job to pay off her student loans, find a place to live, and oh yes, buy food before she ends up at a homeless shelter.
She stumbles on a hot billionaire looking for an assistant. She gets the job, but it’s not exactly what she expected.
“The ad should have read ‘Master Seeking Servant.’ That would have been a more accurate description given the palatial setting. They’d probably been afraid that would have brought in the wrong kind of crowd. I licked my lips as a delicious new daydream began to play out in my mind. I slapped a leather crop against my palm as Steel knelt before me in a submissive pose. Yeah, like that was ever going to happen.”
Josie Walker’s Crystal Banks is a fun heroine with a wicked sense of humor. She also has a nice mix of vulnerabilities and her own secrets.
This is a fantastic start to a new series and this is book 1 to The Order of the Bear. Crystal came home and found her now ex boyfriend having sex with another woman his family owns the biggest publishing house and he had the nerve to blacklist her so now she has no employment opportunities and no place to live because her apartment is in her ex’s name. Crystal goes for a job at Steele Corp and she gets it right away but with some very strange conditions. Crystal meets her boss Eric Steele he maybe gorgeous but he’s obnoxious and a snob and so full of himself but Eric has secrets. This is a very entertaining read and I enjoyed it immensely and I can’t wait for book 2, fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
This book was like a horse race. It started off fast and stayed that way!! The main female wore me out. Her mind bounce so much !! She could be the poster child for ADD. I did like the story but she really was not a fun character for me. Now the male in liked . He knew what he wanted and he took care of all those around him. But he kept all that himself. She does not know ow this she just sees a man who wants what he wants. He expects you to obey his rules but gives no reason why. This book stays with you and you wonder what is going to happen next. There are very few character in the book. I would not call it a shifter book. And there are no bedroom scents.

I liked the main character a lot, as well as a few of the side characters.. the main male character, I'm still on the fence about.. but to me, that's a sign of a good series starter because it can build to lean him one way or another later. I had a few issues with the main character's internal conversations, but it wasn't overly distracting to the point where you lose the story lines. I found this to be an easy and quick read, and honestly read it while spending the morning sitting on a porch in the country relaxing. I am looking forward to the next installment of this series and finding out what happens next.

Well I quite liked the quirky character of Crystal, but what I missed most was to have a decent amount of conversations with other characters, they didn't say much at all. I don't have a problem to read what the character is thinking, I found it funny. But it was a bit to much that the storyline had not much development. As for her job as a PA it was lacking on information, never catch up with her editing the website, no interactions after she told him. And where and who was the cat? The conversations were far to thin, I liked the idea of it, but it felt like I was reading a diary.
I really enjoyed how this was a different sort of paranormal story. There is mystery and intrigue that made me feel a little remencent of Jane Eyre. The MMC is grouchy and mysterious, the FMC is plucky there are strange rules and the rest of the characters know something you don’t. Don’t worry you aren’t left in suspense by the end, though the ending left me eagerly awaiting the next one. There is some steam but it’s closed door. I definitely finished this one quickly.
Ps I will give you a small spoiler there is no wife in the attic.

I really enjoyed the book. Crystal was so funny with all of conversations with herself. I did find her a little flaky at times, though. After what happened with her ex, Bryce, I couldn't understand her swooning over Steele with his rudeness. I had to laugh my tail off when she fed him mac & cheese with hot dogs. The premises was good and now that she's not so in the dark, I may like her even more. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.
I absolutely loved this rendition of the grumpy and sunshine romance. Who wouldn’t want to get out of a toxic cheating relationship and be swept away to a billionaires mansion? So Crystal didn’t know how to do the job she signed up for at first… She was more than happy to figure it out as she goes, after all it gave her good pay and a place to live. In this novel we follow Crystal and Eric in this Beauty and The Beast style retelling as she chips away at that cold exterior and gets a bit under Eric’s skin. This is a well developed very unique paranormal shifter story. It is a story that continues on if the reader is so inclined to read more about the alpha and his lady. This story does have an HEA and can be a stand alone. It has a little angst, interesting friends, only a little hot sex but lots of hot chemistry and there is a little mystery to solve. It's funny too! A good way to spend a couple of hours.
This book was okay. It is the beginning book for a series but it did not entice me to read the series. I did not feel a good connection between the H & h but I suspect that will be built in the 2 nd book. It seems like that might be the set up. The h was a little too immature and whinny for my taste and parts seemed to leave out info or were hastily put together, but once again they will most likely be fleshed out as the series continues.
Yes, I read the whole thing. I'm just not sure if I like it or not! So many things seem to be things that her character wouldn't tolerate-for any reason-especially after her last relationship. And I don't care how sexy you are, if anyone, man or woman, treated me like he does her, he'd need to have something surgically removed from his ass after I stuck it there!
I may give it a few books and come back to read the next, we'll see. Until then, ciao! ,🐺
Interesting and engaging tale of a broke, jobless and homeless woman, who needs a job after breaking up with her cheating boyfriend. She is hired by a mysterious billionaire for a personal assistant job, but there is a lot more to the working conditions than she thought. The story builds to a climax but there is no real ending, just a lead in to the next book in the series

I was intrigued by the blurb and I'm happy I decided to give this book a try. The storyline is full of mystery and suspense, as well as humor and funny moments, especially when Crystal talks to herself. The characters were lovable and gradually developed throughout the storyline. I really enjoyed the story and can't wait for the next book in the series!

Her writing draws you in and keeps you involved throughout the whole of each story. You truly feel as though you are living among the characters, fighting their fight, a part of their world. Great character development, steamy sex scenes and enough of the everyday grind to really be able to sink into the book.

This is an entertaining story with strong characters in Crystal and Eric. The author does a great job developing the story and pulling you in with the suspense and mystery as well as the dialogue and humor. She brings the story to life with her descriptive writing and detailed scenes. It moves quickly and smoothly and I enjoyed reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I wasnt sure about this book in the beginning. But Crystal's unique brand of humor won me over. I should have known it would have another part to the story, but it doesnt make it any easier for me to accept. Im a greedy reader. I want more now. I will be excitedly and impatiently waiting for the next book. Happy reading! Rating 5 stars

Plot wise this is a solid book, a witch who doesn't know she is a witch gets a job as a personal assistant of a super rich bear shifter and soon all hell breaks loose.
Too much happens too fast for a reader to enjoy it. There is no time to digest what happens, enjoy and savour incidents.
I wish the book was better paced.

At first this story comes off as a one-off version of Beauty and the Beast—only she’s not-so-beautiful (she’s ok) and he’s got an awful attitude. She’s living in his creepy Mansion as not much more than a personal servant and following his weird rules—most of the time. Things just keep getting weirder. This is an entertaining, albeit strange, story. Leaves on a happily for now ending.
I thought this was charming I throughly enjoyed the two main chapters Eric the brooder, and Crystal the woman needing a job desperately. Their interactions were funny at times , since she had restrictions in order to keep her job. It kept me reading on after each chapter, I was left hanging , I wanted to read more. This is the first book in the series, now I can’t wait to read the rest of their story.
This book could be confusing at times And All in all it was a good book
As I read this book I was confused at times And then I would be laughing cause it was funny And then turned around and fell The character was feeling very insecure. So when I say it's a confusing book that's what I mean. I figured it out half way through the book what it was really about And I thought that author was clever in the way it was written.
Very interesting and entertaining read. This unique and enjoyable read was jammed packed with twists and turns that you didn't even see coming even though I didn't feel a good connection between Crystal and Mr Steel but I suspects that things will change and build in book 2. It has a little bit of angst, mystery, and suspense looking forward to seeing what going to happen next in the series.
This is a 5 star shifter story plus so much more. I love this book! Crystal makes joking remarks to herself when she gets nervous. Eric is not good with words and prefers to just give a death stare... not helpful at all. Without giving any spoilers, I loved every minute of this book, and was praying it would not end.
