Randy had no intention of becoming a superhero, a Mask as the newspapers sometimes called them. Even less had he ever thought of becoming a superheroine – a female Mask! Circumstances, fate, destiny, whatever had other plans. He had the powers and the world needed him. Well, her powers. The world needed Template's powers.
One thing for sure, it made it harder for anyone to guess his secret identity.
This book was better than I feared it might be, though not as good as I'd hoped. There was a minimum of CisHet guy writing trans characters crud to wade through, but the examination of feelings, either of a CisHet guy pushed by circumstances into spending a fair amount of time in a female body, or of a coercively transformed CisHet guy who became a girl (and then a young woman) is sadly skimped upon. And what there is doesn't sound like any of the actual transfolk I know.
As superhero lit goes, it's about the middle of the pack. There are some good adventure bits. It does often feel more like slice-of-life episodic fiction than a novel, but there's just enough of an overarching plot arc to justify it not being marketed as a short story collection.
The idea is interesting. It moved. It kept me interested. The plot kept the characters varied and different. I enjoyed the story. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good science fiction
Very interesting twist on the old Capes and Villains story... Great characters, lots of small plots developing, all over a great book! I’m going for the next one right now!
Good read, has an incredible world build . Good flow but alittle jumping with the plot at times. Would recommend for a good take on superheroes and the drama that goes with them
feels like a sequence of disjoint very short stories, years pass, but minimal character development occurs. main character too powerful, and is never challenged.
