Despite the fact that she is a romance writer, Samantha Christy's favorite television show of all time is The Walking Dead.

And contrary to the fact that her heroines drink things like wine and Cosmos, she prefers Bud Light.

She also loves fan mail and answers all of it.

She went to college and all that, getting a degree in something she never uses. She's also got a gaggle of kids (4) and a pretty decent husband.

Sadly not my favourite book by Samantha Christy, Stone Vows equally frustrated me and annoyed me. The first part (which is more than 60% of the book) is in Kyle’s POV which I don’t have a problem with, but what frustrated me was that during this whole time nothing happened. Elizabeth/Alexa/Lexi was a totally closed book and nothing was given away. As a reader, I need to know something …. ANYTHING … to keep my interest. I get that Kyle wasn’t supposed to find out till later in the book, but I needed to know way before I had virtually given up.

When things started getting revealed all it served to do was show just how TSTL Elizabeth/Alexa/whoever she chooses to be was. When your life and that of your child is threatened you do NOT run away from safety, you run TOWARDS it. Total idiot.

Kyle left me so conflicted. He’s everything I want in a hero, charming, thoughtful, kind, considerate, protective, caring and it was thrown back in his face time after time after time, but - and it's a big BUT, he was still banging his f*ckbuddy a third of the way into the book. I don't want to read that in my romances. I get he had an active sex life, but once he meets the heroine he needs to ditch that, not keep at it like an energiser bunny.

I really didn’t connect with the h much, even once her reasons for running were revealed. Too little, too late and way too rushed to the point of more or less being glossed over, though I liked that Kyle made her work to get back in there but to be honest I wish he had just walked away.

I read this because I loved Catching Caden so much and he was introduced in this book so I wanted to find out more. So very little was given of their back stories that I shouldn't have bothered.

2.5 at best meh and frustrated stars.

God I freaking hate this book. I'm on chapter 12 and even though the hero met the heroine early on, and is hanging out with her, everything else is him screwing his hospital fuck buddy. In vivid detail. I kept thinking it would stop but nope, there's no end in sight. Wtf? It's literally making me nauseous. Who wants to read that shit in a romance book? And he goes straight from screwing her to the heroines room to hang out with her. And no condoms either. Ugh. Gross. Freaking HATE it. I'm done.

3 Hesitant Stars

Ok, this is one of this books that are hard for me to decide on a rating. I almost feel like I have to give it two ratings, one for the first 50% of the book, which would be 2 stars at best, and another for the last 50% which would be 4 stars, so I'll compromise and leave it at 3 Stars.
Now to explain my rating I have to organize my thoughts Into positives and negatives. So...
NEGATIVES:
1) The H having a sexual relationship with an OW throughout the first half of the book. The book starts with the H "Kyle" calling and having sex with another resident from the hospital where they both work. They are not in a "relationship", they are f-buddies, that use sex to relieve the stress of working at the hospital, and they "use" each other for the release when they feel like it. This is wrong to me in so many levels, and for so many different reasons that I don't even know where to begin. First, it doesn't speak very good of the H's character that he just uses this OW like she's an object to get him the "release" that he wants. However this girl is fine with it (until she's not), and she agrees to this arrangement, they use each other, so at least he wasn't deceiving her. Second, they are having a lot of sex. Like ALL the time. In the hospital rooms (Eww). Seems like every time the H had a difficult case, or was tired, or couldn't handle the outcome with a patient he would call her for a quickie. Really?? If you're a doctor and can't cope with the job, then you should probably find a different profession. Because using meaningless sex to handle things is a healthy way to cope, right?
Now I don't know if I'm the only one who really dislike reading explicit sex scenes between the H and OW, but I don't enjoy that. Like I said it wasn't once or twice, but MANY times. It's really off putting, and unnecessary IMO. We could have gotten the idea without the details, and it just made me uncomfortable.
This arrangement lasts up until the H realises that he's falling in love with the h, but even before that, the H and h had an emotional connection yet he continued to "see" the OW. He also realized that this OW was developing feelings for him, and he kind of encouraged or let it happen, because he thought maybe she was the right girl for him. And then he ended it, but not before this OW kind of realized that he was interested in the h.
Anyway, this was a big NO for me, and the mostly the reason for the 2 star rating on the first half.
2) The book drags a little bit in the first half. We get a lot of information on patients/cases at the hospital, and while I appreciate that the author is trying to build context, and establish the environment for the story, it is a device that doesn't advance the storyline. Again we could have gotten the same effect without all those hospital cases and details that seemed more like filler. I admire that the author did her research on the medical aspect, but it was unnecessary IMO. With the exception of one scene that was really moving and hard to read, because I could imagine the devastation that a mass casualty event would bring and the sadness that involved that particular scene, the rest could have been shortened.
Then in the second half of the book, the story takes us away from the hospital and we don't read anything hospital related, so it went from a lot to nothing.
Positives:
1) The h "Elizabeth". I really liked her strength, her character. She was sweet and caring. She was in a difficult situation, she was going through something rough, and she never complained and never wavered. She really was strong. At times she came across as too proud, but when I learned of her past, I understood why she was like that.
There was one instance where I didn't agree with something she did, but she came back and tried to fix it. In the second half there were times where I would have given up on the H, but she loved him and she stuck with him.
2) The relationship between the H and h, and the way they get to know each other. I enjoyed the time they spend at the hospital. It was sweet and the only good part of the first half.
3) The secondary characters which are the five couples from the five previous books. I enjoyed all these other books so it was great to have them all together and as an important part of this story.
4) Samantha Christy's writing. I know I complained about the first half, but all in all, her writing is very good. She has a beautiful prose, she is able to tap into the readers feelings and can manage the perfect balance of angst and romance, drama and happiness. .
Undecided:
1) The H. It's hard for me to categorize him into positive or negative. I think he's both. The negative being what I discussed previously about his involvement with the OW, the other was that he was hot and cold in the second part of the book, wanting the h, but not wanting her at the same time... he could not decide what he wanted, so it was push and pull.
The positive is that he was a really nice guy. He was compassionate as a doctor, just a good guy wanting to change the world. He would do anything to help people, and that's how he got to know the h. I know I didn't paint him in a good light before, but sometimes even good people make shitty decisions.

All in all this book was a good read, There are a lot of sweet heart tugging moments, and I'm glad I stuck with it and read through the unsavory parts because at the end the positives outweigh the negatives by far.

Everyone is just one unfortunate circumstance away from being in someone else’s shoes

I'm so, so sad that another series of Samantha Christy is over. Wow-I do believe this is my favorite book...I'm pretty sure I say that about each of Ms. Christy's books, but I think this time it is true! I absolutely fell in love with Kyle. It isn't too often that there is a swoony hero that comes from money and has a heart bigger than his bank account. He may be a bit cocky, but in his case it's truly justified. Kyle is a second year resident who has a good thing going with Gina, a fellow resident. Friends with benefits, neither of them looking for more. And then Kyle meets Elizabeth. A very pregnant, very mysterious Elizabeth. So Kyle has Gina, perfect Gina, who is just as busy and overworked as Kyle. Gina, who understands the demands of the job and is on the same "friends" page as him. But there is just something about Elizabeth...
This isn't a fast HEA book. This book has substance. Stone Vows will keep you reading until you turn the last page. Phenomenal book!

I was provided an ARC of this book so that I might leave an honest review

FELL HARD FOR THIS READ

I am fairly new to reading this author and I haven't been disappointed yet. This book was no exception. It was phenomenal! There was so much that Lexi and Kyle had to go through to get their happily-ever-after. I fell in love with these characters and thought the storyline was well written. I'm hooked and need more of her wonderful words.

I found the first part of this book kind of dragged on and moved really slow. The second part got better but it felt like it all exploded and ended in one chapter. Felt like I waited for the romance to really get going and then when it finally happens it end! Hated that.
Also found it stupid that Lexi would go through all the trouble hiding from, and fearing, this horrible abusive husband for him to just show up and simply ask for a divorce and give her up without any fight. Very anti-climactic.
Not a huge fan of this book.

This was very disappointing. Sorry, I just can’t read two thirds of a book while the main character has descriptive sex with someone other than the heroine. I don’t care how it ends, that’s just not enjoyable. I stopped reading at chapter 13 and read the epilogue.

Elizabeth is sitting on a bench, pregnant, when Kyle sees her. He ushers her into the hospital he is a resident in. She is admitted and soon the two are building a friendship that starts to blur to more.
Kyle is semi single, he has a FWB relationship with another resident at the hospital, but he thinks she wants more.

The talk, have meals, play games to learn about each other but as soon as it gets TOO personal then she clams up, no matter how much he opens up. When we learn why we can understand it but damage is done by her actions, and we will have to wait and see if they are strong enough to find a HEA and if he can get past the secrets and lies.

Kyle is a good hero albeit a sap. Paying for her stay and other things. Elizabeth is infuriating at times with her thinking, her actions, her decisions. The secondary characters were interesting. I loved the flow of the book. I wasn't turned off by him and the FWB having sex before he realizes that he is falling for Elizabeth.

Great first read of the author.

Sometimes you never know what was missing from your life until it stares you right in the face. Kyle always thought that opening his own clinic was the only thing in his future, that is until a high risk pregnant woman shows up while he is working in the ER. Kyle's priorities change overnight. But can Elizabeth/Alexa get closure from her past to make a life with Kyle. This was by far my favorite Stone brother. The characters, the angst and the HEA make this a must read that I highly recommend.

Some things are worth fighting for!

Lexi was so lost until she found her soulmate Kyle Stone in the most bizarre place, a hospital bench, alone scared but finally found! There story was great! I hated the back and forth of their feelings but I'm the end they found true love! I enjoyed each of the Stone Vows series and I look forward to reading more from this author! Great job Samantha Christy!

I really enjoy Samantha’s books but I just couldn’t get into this one. I read Caden’s book first so I kinda spoiled this one for myself. Having said that, I didn’t enjoy this one at all and didn’t feel any chemistry between the main characters. I’m also not loving the book being split by point of view as opposed to it swapping between chapters. It was frustrating and I found myself getting bored with this book.

Overall, meh

This book is way longer than it needs to be I was done with this book halfway through before they even switch to Elizabeth/Lexi's perspectives. I just don't care about these characters. Not worth the read.

Ugh that was perfect, by far my favorite book from Christy. I just wasn't expecting everything that I got out of this book. Wow. Just wow. It had actual depth to the characters and the stories and situations. I liked the plot. I do wish we had Kyle's POV in the second half of the book. I loved seeing Caden! That was really great.

Quelle déception!
Franchement!

COME ON!!!

*** ENGLISH REVIEW HERE ****
What a disappointment!
Where to start ... there is so much bad stuff in this book.

Let's go with what I didn't like the most:

1. The hero offers us intimate scenes with his f * ck buddy ... several times ... in a rather graphic way ... and this, even after having met the heroine. Isn't it a golden rule that the H should no longer dip his cookie in another glass of milk than the H's once they've met?
In any case, I don't like it. At all. Especially when it's so repetitive. Way to kill a supposed chemistry between MC.

2. The Hero and his f * ck buddy "meet" (to put it mildly) EVERY TIME they experience something intense / stressful at work. COME ON!!! They are interns in the emergency room of a big ass hospital! We can imagine that their daily life is very stressful. If every time a "big case" is treated, they need to fuck like animals, I'm not convinced at all that they really are made to be doctors.

3. The novel seems to be divided in part which literally splits the points of view in two. In other words, the first part is narrated exclusively from H's point of view. It's a shame, because during this time, we have a one-way view of the story through his eyes. We would have really benefited from having her point of view as well.

4. Hospital shifts are well documented. I imagine the author's goal was to bring H's professional career to life. Yet that doesn't work. It slows down the pace a lot and gives us scenes that the book absolutely doesn't need.

So, after two hours of the audiobook I was more than fed up and I was not at all convinced that a potential and sincere bond between the two main protagonists was possible for me.

Definitely, it's a total failure for me.

Ok read

This story started out with a doctor finding a pregnant lady sitting outside the hospital needing medical attention. But she was reluctant to get help due to not having money. From the first time Dr. Kyle Stone laid eyes on Elizabeth/Alexa he was intrigued. The story was going pretty good discovering the secrets and troubles the came with finding the pregnant lady that grew on him. Life changed in so many ways throughout this story, but it also drugged on in a stretched out love way that got slow and boring. And the ending could have been better since you were waiting for it during the whole story.
Storyline:4 Heat: 2 Overall: 3 Recommend: *Maybe

I enjoyed Stone Rules and Stone Promises. So when I saw this latest book, I thought, this is going to be sooo good...and then it wasn't. The bar was set high and this just fell short. However, I am a loyal reader and even though page after page my disappointment grew-I finished the book. I recommend the Stone Brothers' books, but just not this one.

Kyle's Story

I don't know why I thought Kyle would have a simpler story. More straight forward. An easier path. Instead, in its own way, his has been the most fraught with an almost unimaginable obstacle.
Having something so precious, losing it, getting it back, but in a way that makes it almost impossible to accept, because of the inherent, and seemingly unfixable situation. A situation that makes it a relationship with permanent limitations.
Stop here if you're reading reviews before reading the story, because a spoiler is coming up.

Having been in an abusive relationship, with my first high school boyfriend. Who is the father of my son, this story tries to explain the unexplainable. I have been scoffed at so many times, by people who think that it will never happen to them. That they'd immediately leave and never look back.
If it was that easy, all stories of abuse would be short. The process of abuse starts so subtly, and is done in such a way, that by the time you look back, and try to figure out how you've become this damaged person, stuck in a terrible situation, you're so isolated there's no where to turn. The fear of getting someone else hurt, because of the decisions you've made, is paralyzing. Layer on top of that, the terror of the results of getting caught trying to leave, and the cherry on top is the deep shame and embarrassment of being abused. Put trying to protect your child from their other parent, who likely controls the money so they can hire an attorney, when you can't, and you're stuck in a situation with no way out.
Statistics show, the most dangerous time for a woman trying to leave an abusive situation, is when the actual attempt to leave happens, and the window of time immediately after that. The loss of control can push the abuser to react so violently, it results in the death of the abused.
One of the most common ways an abused woman dies, is thru strangulation while the abuser is trying to keep her quiet so others won't hear. Crying out for help can get you killed. Leaving often increases the likelihood of being killed. Knowing that, does it start to make sense that sometimes leaving is more dangerous than staying. Especially if you have children. The abuser often has enough financial power to strip custody from the abused. Would you risk losing your children to the very person they are most in danger from? If it was easy or simple to get away, most would choose to leave.
You wind up in a box with no escape. No money, often times no job ( nothing will sway a judge faster on who to award primary custody, when 1 parent has no job, and no way to support the children). Cut off from friends and a support system, and you have a recipe for either leaving the children behind to their fate alone, or staying abused, but with a chance to protect them as much as possible.
There aren't enough shelters, or pro bono lawyers. So much proof of abuse is either impossible to get, or inadmissible in court, and then you have the judgment and shame involved with bringing the abuse to light, and see why so many stay. Not because they want to, but because there's no other choice.
When I was involved in a custody battle, with my abuser, his convictions, yes convictions, for domestic violence against both myself and my son, as well as convictions against him for abusing the next girlfriend and wife, were inadmissible in Illinois because they were misdemeanors. Multiple domestic violence convictions were inadmissible. I hadn't been allowed to work, so with a limited education, my first job after I left paid $1 over minimum wage, while he had a good union job.
And I was terrified of him. If I didn't win custody, and had made him really angry in court, my child and his newest fling, were going to pay the price. My income didn't have room for food, much less any money for an attorney. So I was on my own in navigating the court system.
I stayed until I realized my odds were about even for him killing me because I stayed, or killing me because I left.
I lost. I lost custody of my son. Was only granted visitation at his discretion (meaning a few hours a week, because I was being punished for leaving, and the way to cut me the deepest was to keep my son from me). And I had to pay child support. Even though he made almost 10 times more than me. I think everyone has a responsibility, financially for their children, but I was making below the poverty level, and had to get a roommate, with an apartment in a sketchy side of town (that my ex decided wasn't safe enough to bring my child to while I had him those precious few hours a week), and work a second job just to eat and keep a roof over my head. Even if it was a crappy roof, in a tiny shared apartment, and cup a soup was dinner. A lot.
And I was judged harshly both for being "weak", because I had allowed myself to be abused, and a terrible mother because my son didn't live with me. To this day, I wonder if I should have stayed.

Kyle and Lexi

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

Stone Vows by Samantha Christy. Stone Brothers trilogy, book 3. Audibook review. Dual POV (part one is  Kyle's and part two is Alexa's). Dual style narration. It's listed as 10 hours 4 minutes; I listened at speed 2.50 for 4 hours 1 minute. Narration: Erin Mallon had a growly tone throughout, but Jason Clarke did a good job. Content warnings: miscarriages; deaf baby; domestic v¡olence and r@pe (no details); and medical emergencies with ER patients (including burn victims, injured homeless patient, still born baby).

**uncertain of the spelling of character names**

Dr Kyle Stone (27; aka P0rn Star) is a 2nd year resident in emergency medicine and the youngest of three boys. He wants to change the world one patient at a time. He had a crush on Mallory when they were younger. He found out his name was the same as a p0rn star when he was 12, Ethan wallpapered his bedroom with the p0rn star's pictures after they found out. He's currently single, but Gina is his friend-with-benefits. Alexa Octavia Lucas (25; alias Elizabeth Smith; maiden name Kessler; aka Lexi/Lex) is a pregnant woman sitting outside the emergency room when Kyle finds her and helps her inside after reassuring her that no matter what her financial status is the hospital will treat her. She's bleeding and is 32 weeks pregnant without insurance on a dog walker's pay. After checking her out and clearing her with instructions to rest, she leaves. She calls Kyle scared because she's bleeding again. Kyle tells her to go to the ER, where they discover her condition is worse, and she's admitted. While Lexi's a patient, Kyle learns that she's a baseball fan and has degrees in literature and elementary education.  As they get to know each other they play "Never Have I Ever" for jello and learn that in the 10th grade Chad broke his leg after Beauty bucked him off; that Lexi had stitches on her ankle from a scooter accident at 8 years old, on her left elbow from a softball incident when she was 14 years old, and that she "fell into the corner of a table" when she was 23 cutting her collar bone. His parents moved to CA when he was 15. Kyle's never been married. Kyle stole sunglasses in the mall when he was 15, which is how Chad was discovered by a talent scout. That Lexi has a tattoo and found out later it's of 2 hearts with "Grant" across them on the inside of her left wrist and much later changes it to "take nothing for granted." While in the hospital, Mallory, Baylor, Skylar, and Piper visit Lexi to keep her company at Kyle's request. There's a building fire emergency that deeply affects Kyle when his patient dies. Kyle and Lexi have in room hospital dates with Chinese food and share fortune cookies. Kyle arranges Lexi's favorite baseball player to visit her, but she is suddenly ill when he arrives. Gina walked into Lexi's hospital room when Kyle and Lexi shared their first kiss. Kyle assists in Lexi's c-section at 37 weeks. Kyle gives her a cloth wristband to cover her tattoo of "Grant" after her daughter is born. Lexi agrees to live with Kyle, and then Gina tells Lexi that Kyle is paying her hospital bills. Lexi left the hospital before Kyle got there and disappeared.

Six months later, Cameron and Gina are together. Grant shows up looking for Lexi. Kyle goes to Ethan for help finding her, finds out she's been missing for a year, there were police records with pictures of her abuse, that her real name is Alexa Lucas, her maiden name was Kessler, and that Caden is her younger brother. Kyle met with Caden to tell him. Alexa shows up on Kyle's doorstep with her daughter, Ellie. Kyle texted Caden to come. The three of them go to get all of her belongings and move her in with Kyle. Baylor hired Lexi as her assistant. Lexi has Skylar's hair stylist change her hair back to brown. Mason and Piper set a wedding date after being engaged for three years. Lexi asked Caden to raise Ellie if anything ever happened to her. Skylar and Piper go with Lexi to change her tattoo. Mason and Piper get married, and during their reception, Grant accosts Lexi, realizes Ellie is not only deaf but his, reveals he wants a divorce, and had another child with his mistress. Kyle declares his love for Lexi, and he proposes to her, "Will you marry me someday?" She answered by signing "yes" in ASL.

Fantastic ending to the saga

Having read all the Stone Brothers book now I really can’t decide which brother I like the most.

This one follows Kyle... a doctor in a busy ER dept. He’s caring, compassionate and wants the best for his patients. Like his brothers, he’s inherited his wealth but apart from his luxurious apartment, you wouldn’t know he was worth millions. His career is his life and he has no time time for love or women, so his relationships stop at a booty call in the on call room with his colleague Gina...

That is until a scared, beautiful and heavily pregnant young woman shows up outside his ER with complications. There’s something about her that endears him to her. She’s timid, frightened and guarded but as he gets her to open up they start to bond. Alone with no friends or family, Kyle is worried that she’s destitute or possibly homeless, so he gives her his personal number in case she needs further help.

After being discharged and ordered to take it easy, Kyle thinks that will be the last he sees of the beautiful stranger but a turn of events sees Elizabeth’s condition worsen and she ends up on strict bed rest in the hospital. Assigned to look after her care Kyle and Elizabeth’s relationship starts to stray beyond that of a patient and doctor and their obvious feelings for each become hard to ignore... but a hospital is not the best place for any intimacy, especially in Elizabeth’s condition. However, their connection is deep and built on more than just sex.

When her baby is born... (sweetest thing ever!!!)... Kyle is instantly in love and even though he’s never factored kids or family into his future, he wants to look after Elizabeth and the baby. But life is never that easy... and just when he thought everything in his life is becoming clear and planned his future is flipped on its head and the two people he loved and cared for are gone without a trace.

The second part of the book jumps 6months ahead. Kyle is still coming to terms with losing Elizabeth and the baby. He’s thrown himself back into his career and despite all his best efforts, locating Elizabeth seems near impossible. She’s gone... or has she? Maybe he’s just been looking in the wrong places or for the wrong person.

That’s as much of the story as I will tell... but it certainly has you reaching for the tissues or yelling at the pages. It’s a sweet and endearing story that tackles many poignant issues.

I’ve enjoyed all the Stone Brothers books and I love the way it keeps the same characters throughout so you feel like you get to know them all individually... but it also means you don’t ever want them to end. I’d love for the sagas to continue because they are so well written that you feel like you know all of these people.

As usual, these are real page turners and I’ve loved reading all of them. On to Caden’s story now as I can’t get enough of them!!
