I love books that mash mythology with modern and I've had my eye on the Goddess Test series for a while. So, when this novella was available for free, I grabbed it up a few years back. Yeah.. took my time, but I got to it eventually, right?

So, the events of this novella take place after the first book. The heroine, Kate, is on a six-month holiday in Greece with James (aka Hermes) before she takes up her place next to Henry (aka Hades) on the god's council.

They encounter Castor and Pollux and Kate finds herself squaring off against Walter (aka Zeus) and her own dear Henry to defend the twins' right to be together. But, it gets complicated and she sees a whole new side to the benevolent gods she thought were on the council.

I enjoyed the further series development that was evident even to a newbie like me and I enjoyed the opportunity to get to know some of the main players. It's definitely got a YA feel to it, but I think its a series I might like so I'll definitely be going back to the beginning.

I love how this novella alternates POV between Kate and Henry, we finally get to see a glimpse at his views on his relationship with Kate. I also love the relationship between the two brothers, I don't think they should be punished for simply wanting to be together. I also love how they seem to be the opposite of each other, Casey immediatly trust Kate where Lux doesn't. I loved how this end with Henry let them go because he valued his relationship with Kate more than catching them.

In 'The Goddess Hunt' this book tells us what happens during James and Kate's trip to Greece. I love how action packed this book was and also how strong Kate was. She stood up to Zeus (spoiler alert for those who didn't read this yet!) and she also focused on what she believed is right. She didn't waver or give into Zeus's threats, and her feelings for Henry also didn't waver. She knew she had a choice if she ever wanted to back out being The Queen of Underworld, but she stood her ground. The interesting part of this book was the perspective. I like seeing how Henry had left his pride and stood up for Kate. Even though Kate didn't know, Henry had understood her perspective and respected it. He didn't act like a douche bag like Zeus (Walter) *cough*. I also like how Henry had putted his marriage above his ego unlike Walter did in 'The Goddess Legacy'. His devotion and faith in Kate is amazing, and how he always tells her 'You always have a choice' is something not everyone gets. 'The Goddess Hunt' displays an interesting side of the Gods/Goddess's mentioned and the affection displayed through Henry was just heart warming.

Mon avis en Français

My English review

I really liked the first novel and the short story we discover here is placed between the first and the second volume of the series. We had not had the opportunity to see Kate far from Henry and it was a pleasure to discover that here.

Kate is therefore with James on the way to Athens but they stop so she can be presented to Pollux and Castor, two persons on the run, trying to hide from the gods. But of course, as soon as they meet, Henry and Walter, who were looking for them for a long time will do anything to get them back. But Henry soon realizes that he must put his pride aside and help Kate in her quest.

This novella will permit for Kate to realize that the gods are also affected by errors and even if they do not like to admit it, Kate is determined to bring justice whatever happens and whoever it might be. It was a nice little story and I think it allows us to put into perspective all the things Kate thought about. I confess that I am now very curious to see what Aimee Carter holds for us for the second novel. Greece seems to be populated with good future intrigues.

Just read this novella for the first time and it's sweet. It adds to Kate's character and puts her in more of a stronger light. She won't take shit from Walter (Zeus) and I loved it. Short, sweet, and adds more spunk to Kate.

The Goddess Hunt Review on K-Books

Wow, Aimee has done it again and blown me away with her amazing storytelling. I absolutely loved The Goddess Test which I read early last year after getting it for review from Netgalley and it still sticks with me as one of the best Greek Mythology retellings. I love the perspective Aimee takes and how you see a nice, loving side to Hades, something I would never have thought of before reading this series. Add that to the fact that I adore mythology, specifically Greek mythology and the myth of Hades and Persephone is my favourite myth this is the perfect series for me. When I received the second book in this series for review I really wanted to read this novella first as it takes place in between book 1 and 2 and I am so glad I did. I really loved it.

Kate can't bare to think how she will survive the six months away from her beloved Henry. They have only been married for a few days and she doesn't want to be apart from him. But she must and it isn't long until Kate finds herself caught up in trouble with the Gods again. When she runs into Castor and Pollux the gods on the run from the wrath of Zeus and Hades Kate finds herself drawn to their story and her compassion causes her to stop at nothing to help them. Even if it means facing the wrath of her new husband.

I loved this short story I thought it was brilliant. Considering it has been such a long time since I read The Goddess Test I was sucked back into this amazing world and couldn't stop reading. I read the whole thing in one sitting and I cannot wait to read Goddess Interrupted. This is without a doubt one of my favourite mythological series and it leaves me wanting more.

Kate is such a fantastic character. I love how strong and independent she it. She is completely stubborn and doesn't care if she is arguing with all powerful Gods she doesn't show her fear and back down she tells it how she is and won't give up without a fight. I love that about her.
Henry, oh, Henry. Although he wasn't in the novella so much I just love him. I fell even more in love with him and I love how he will put his pride aside to listen to Kate and respect her wishes. It just makes me love him so much and I cannot wait to see what happens when they are reunited in Goddess Interrupted.

A fantastic novella that I would definitely suggest reading and Aimee's writing just sucks you back into the story and the world effortlessly. Can't wait to start Goddess Interrupted. This is definitely shaping up to be one of my all time favourite series.

I wasn't very impressed with this. I read it because I'm generally a huge fan of anything related to Greek Mythology, but this story was stupid. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because it had some potential. *edit* I changed my mind, it doesn't even deserve that.

Spoiler alert...

So basically the main character, Kate, is Persephone. Only she isn't because Persephone gave up her immortality and is now chilling in the Underworld (I have no intentions of reading further in this series, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kate ends up being an incarnation of Persephone or something like that). She has an arranged marriage to Henry (who is Hades, for some stupid reason the author thought renaming the Greek gods was a good idea. They all use aliases, it's annoying.), where she spends six months in the above world and six months in the Underworld. She's a sassy, modern Persephone though.

The story opens with Pollux and Castor breaking out of the Underworld then switches to 3000 years later with Kate and James (Hermes) romping around modern day Greece. They come across this super old cottage where Pollux (now just Lux) and Castor (now Casey) are hiding. They chat for a few and Lux gets upset because Kate and James have certainly been followed. Low and behold! Elle (Artemis) appears and starts chasing them into the woods where they get separated into pairs and Castor is caught by Walter (Zeus) and sent back to the Underworld. Blah, blah, blah Zeus catches up to Pollux and lassos him to a tree, Kate gets flippant and Hades decides to let the twins go free to make Kate happy.

That's pretty much it. Boring and annoying trying to keep unnecessary monikers straight. I was rather hoping for some sort of epic story type. This was not even enjoyable.

I was looking to see if I NEEDED to read this series, and what better way than to try a novella that is #1.5 in the line up! I found characters that were serious, quirky, genuinely caring, clueless and just plain entertaining!

I found a plot, that while a novella told me what I needed to know! Filled with some danger, some humor, some brotherly love and great dialogue, The Goddess Hunt by author Aimee Carter looks to be a lighter paranormal series with some great ideas, characters and just enough smirky moments to make even the depths of the Underworld seem not too bad! The idea of being the wife of Hades after passing a test, seriously? Love it! Aimee Carter can tell a tale!

Bottom line: I NEED to read this series!

Series: Goddess Test, #1.5 (Novella)
Publication Date: March 1, 2012
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Genre: YA Fantasy/Paranormal

Chao.
Me mori.

¡ME ENCANTA HENRY!

«Y gilipollas. Estoy muy orgulloso».

I saw this book in the e-library and remembering reading the first book, so I checked it out.

I forgot how BAD this series is. (I didn't remember hating the first book as much.) The writing is amazingly bad. The dialogue is so bad you want to read it out loud and laugh at it. The plot, everything is ridiculous. Fight scenes out of nowhere, out of character gods. Just stupidity.

So this wins one of my worst books spots.

Don't waste your time or braincells.

See this review and more on The Moonlight Library!

When Kate elects to spend her first six months away from her new husband henry travelling Greece with James, she runs across two rogue demi-gods, Castor and Pollux, and elects to help them escape capture after a thousand ears on the run.

The Goddess Hunt is not aptly named – it’s not about anyone hunting Kate, but about the hunt for the two demi-gods, twin brothers Castor and Pollux. According the legend, one of them is immortal and one mortal, and when Castor died he was trapped in the Underworld. Pollux tried to make a deal with Zeus to free Castor, but it backfired, and although Castor became immortal again, the brothers were doomed to spend every day apart. So they escaped.

Kate decides that it’s not fair the brothers should experience the loss of never seeing someone again – I think it’s because she’s so special and she’s been through so much and she ‘lost’ her mother and she’s currently separated from Henry even though she doesn’t have to be if she doesn’t want to be, so she bleeds her heart over everything and tries to help by doing nothing really. The saving grace of this novel is Kate’s newfound immortality and her guts. She’s mouthy and arrogant and stands up to beings infinitely times more powerful and experienced than her with nary a thought for the consequences. That’s why I like her.

Carter’s writing is clean and easy to read. It’s nothing special, and seeing as how this is a novella, it’s short as well. It’s a good read to while away an hour or so.

Overall the Goddess Hunt presents the time Kate spent in Greece during her first summer away from Henry. The thing that bothered me the most about this was that Kate never graduated from high school, so she’s basically a eighteen year old drop out and married as well. I mean, it’s not a very good example to set, is it? Putting a relationship before your education, especially a basic education. I doubt I’ll re-read this novella, but it was entertaining enough to see Kate give Walter a piece of her mind.

**Warning: Spoilers ahead if you have not yet read The Goddess Test!**

This takes place immediately after the events in The Goddess Test (book 1). Kate and James are off to Greece to begin Kate's six month sabbatical from Henry. Them going together sort of bother's me a bit with James' known interest in her. And she JUST got married to Henry! Why couldn't it have been Ava that went with her or something?

Anyways my initial thoughts were Greece is a great choice place. it would give her the opportunity to learn a bit more about the legends of the gods that are now a part of her life. And sure enough she runs into to brothers that leave her question much of what she thinks about them. especially Henry (Hades) and Walter (Zeus).

One thing that I wish happened would be a bit of a recap as to who everyone is. Since the gods no longer go by their original Greek names it can throw me off a bit trying to remember who they all are again. Also the writing seemed a bit shallow and choppy. compared to the books. Like maybe it was quickly written and put out on a whim. Nothing severe or anything. I still enjoyed the book, but it did seem a bit off from the first book and what little I have started of book 2.

Yet overall I enjoyed this short interlude for the series. Gives us a bit of insight into Kate's personality a bit more and also shows us some errors in the way of the gods that Kate will likely be facing more of as the series progresses. also we get a bit of Henry's perspective in this! I really liked that change and hope to see more in future books here!

I really love this series, but I feel like I'm starting to see the holes in Aimee Carter's "debut writing". I just don't see the progression of her writing. I feel as if there is a depth that is lacking that should be starting to emerge.

The character's motives seem to change a lot between the books. I think that the first two books (The Goddess Test and this one), you can seem who Henry is as a character, but in Goddess Interrupted, it is completely different. I'm not sure why so much change is happening with Henry's character... I think that the addition of his perspective in this book was nice. I really liked being able to see who he is from the inside out instead of the outside in. Although, this perhaps took a little bit of his mysterious edge off of him. At least for me.

I guess the swearing that Kate does in this book annoyed me a bit. I don't mind when a character swears sometimes, but it just seems like she does it a lot. It makes her as a character look really immature, especially when she's supposed to be a goddess. I didn't feel like she was the same character in the first book as she was in this one.

This was a pretty interesting story line. I liked how there was more mythology incorporated than previously. I'm just still hoping for a little more oomf from the story line as it continues. Less circles of the plot, less right vs. wrong. More action?

It was a super quick read and held my attention throughout! I'm excited for the novella coming out at the end of July!

Genoeg andere boeken!

As seen on Ed and Em's Reviews!

4/5 Stars!

I liked reading from Henry's point-of-view. I wish there was a book all about him. He brings a different perspective to the goings-on within the books. I hope that Ms. Carter brings more of his thoughts into the next book. His ideas and thoughts about everything that was happening were very interesting to read. I enjoyed it.

And while I enjoyed this, Kate still gives me trouble. Kate is a fiesty, interesting girl, but she's not my favorite heroine. Her maturity level definitely sways. It can be annoying, but I love how she doesn't let anyone take advantage of her or push her in this novella. She's very stubborn and stands up for what she believes is right. That is an important quality in a good heroine.

I am very excited to read the next book, though after reading this, I realize thatII definitely need to reread the first book! I'm looking forward to reading the reunion between Kate and Henry. For what it's worth, I want them to get their "happily ever after."

meh... sometimes I'm not sure if these "half" books are worth the read. Sometimes they give information that comes up in the later books and you feel like you are missing something if you haven't read it, other times, they are just fluff in between. In this case, I think this novella didn't add anything crucial to the story. Since I have already read the next book, and there were no references to this story at all, I don't think it is necessary to read. But, if you just like the story of Castor and Pollux, then you might have fun with it.

If there's one thing I hate, it's naive characters that make snap decissions and are portrayed as the hero; say hello to Kate.
In The Goddess Hunt, she proved that she was woefully immature and here she proves she's learned nothing. Rather than consulting her husband about his past with two twin brothers, she instantly believes the brothers and become BFFs with them...
This is not how a normal human being acts and it's so frustrating to read.

Not awful, but not my favorite in the series.
She’s way too selfless in a non realistic way. It becomes cringey almost.

And I would have liked her to feel something for this other guy or just not go on dating vacations with him then be surprised that others thought it was a dating vacation.
