A family reference guide to the most significant cultural and political events, from ancient times to the present, offers timeline charts for five major world regions, presented in a visual format.
As Editorial Director at Usborne, Jane oversees books about absolutely everything. She grew up in Moscow, Singapore, and in a forest in Sussex, building treehouses and pretending to be one of the Famous Five. Before university she was a social worker in Botswana and camped under the stars in the Kalahari Desert.

Well, it took me 18 months to get through reading in chunks with lots of breaks between the previous readings and this last, but I’m one of those adults who finds it a great resource and hopes it will prove so for my kids as well. It’s a really good over view and gives the big picture of how people have discovered and tried so many new and interesting endeavors, sprinkled among all the wars and disasters, etc. The depths that people sink to for power and control is indeed a downer, but there’s enough beauty and focus on what we have explored that I’m glad to have made this purchase. We did actually pull it out just the other night after my kids asked what was happening in the 1820’s and I wanted to show them more of the world’s timeline than just the US and UK for example. An attractive mix of drawings and photographs.
The book provides an overview about the world history. The author lists out the date and relevant events, classifying into different continents. The thing I do not like in this book is that the event description is too short so that the reader can not understand the meaning. By the way, some events enclose with picture so the book looks really nice.
It of course doesn't go too in-depth about any event. However, I think that it does spark interest in many events, which leads to further research. It's easy to read, east to follow and absolutely great for children. Even adults will learn a whole lot from this fun, colorful book.
