The Mercury Pack #3

Lure of Oblivion

Rate this book
Gwen Miller may be a human, but she has no problem taking a stand against her own kind. She’s going to testify against the teenage boy she saw viciously assault a lone shifter female—and no amount of pressure from the boy’s wealthy family will make her back down. But when the harassment turns violent, help comes in the form of a lean, toned wolf with winter-gray eyes.

As a guest at Gwen’s inn, shifter enforcer Zander Devlin can’t help but notice that the fierce and leggy brunette is in serious trouble. Since she’s putting herself at risk for one of his kind, keeping her safe is the least he can do. That’s not the only reason Zander wants her close. He desires her, even as the wolf inside him backs away from her. But his feral instincts are hard to keep down, and as they take shape, they’re harder for Gwen to resist. Then again, embracing them could be the only thing that could save her life.

Suzanne Wright is one of my FAVORITE authors. She is definitely on my "Could Shit on Paper and I Would Read It" shelf. In fact, you know what? I'm gonna go create a shelf with that name. Cause, fuck it.

Be right back.

description

Okay, I'm back.

Anyway, as I was saying.

I adore Ms. Wright and I have read and will continue to read every single book she writes.

That said, this was not my favorite book in this series. In fact, it might actually be my least favorite to date. But, considering my "least favorite" is still weighing in at a solid 3-3.5, that's okay by me.

They can't ALL be winners. Cause then there would BE no winners.

Think about it.

Anyexistential.

I'm not sure exactly what I didn't love about this one.

I guess I just found Gwen and her...situation to be a tad boring.

Or maybe I'm just a shifterist and the fact that she was human failed to blow my mind.

Who knows.

Maybe I will enjoy this more the second time around.

I do have a LOT going on at home right now and I find myself somewhat distracted when reading lately. GASP!

I know, I know, crazy, right?

But that's an indication of how many balls I have up in the air right now.

Some are bound to drop.

Fans of the series will still enjoy this book, although in my opinion, perhaps not as much as others in the series. Regardless, still worth the read.

Lure of Oblivion was a good solid read for me. I would expect no less of Suzanne Wright. She is one of my favorite authors and her books always hit the good spot. I will say that though I enjoyed this read something kept it from being a 5 star read for me. I honestly can't put a finger on what kept this read from wowing me but something was missing for me. I loved Gwen. I thought she was totally bad ass for a human. I liked Zander a lot. I didn't love him but I really liked him. I think I was a little put off that he was kind of standoffish to Gwen at the start. However when Gwen and Zander got together their passion was burning up my kindle. SW writes great sex in her books. I enjoyed the plot as well. I started this book and it kept me entertained the whole time. Lure of oblivion was a great addition to the Mercury Pack series and I can't wait to read the next book.

I jumped on this book the second I saw it on NetGalley and dropped all my plans in order to read it. I'm obsessed with these shifters and when I heard this book was going to have a human heroine I was ten times more excited.

Zander is one of the quiet pack members, which drew me into his characters and made me want to find out all his secrets. I really liked getting to learn more about him and seeing him when he went all possessive with Gwen. She may not have Shifter strength but she held her own with Zander, and wouldn't let him treat her as a weak human. They had a strong connection from the beginning and their fighting each other only added to it and added some of that much loved sexual tension.

Suzanne Wright having a human heroine in this series put a new unique spin on it and I was extremely happy with the new direction. I thought it was so different from her other books in that there was only one character who had the animal instincts, which made a big difference. It made it really interesting to see how Zander's wolf felt and then to see how Gwen herself was feeling about being with a shifter.

There was a great deal of suspense and action featured as well and it had me on the edge of my seat from page one. Bad guys were coming from every direction making my heart race and then some ass kicking was going on. I couldn't get enough of everything and never had that moments where I thought there was too much going on. This author is one of my favorites and next time someone asks me why I'm just going to point them in the direction of this book.

I'm going to admit something. I love these dang books. I have no shame. I can pick up one at any time and know I'm in for a good time.

Best wolf shifting porn in the world.

Shaddup judging until you read one of these suckers.

This wasn't my favorite of the batch but it still was just what the book slumping gawds ordered.

Gwen is a human and has spoken out against some little buttholes in town that hurt a female shifter. They are giving her grief and trying to get her to shut up with the speaking out against her 'own kind.' She refuses and gets a visit from super smexy wolf shifting men.

One of them is hawt and they start the banging.
The banging is hot as balls in these books....except for one thing.

The dang cream talk about her lady bits. That shit is gross.

I just remember it from the last two books I read by this author but not a fan. She may have used it in the others I read from her and I have creamavoidancedisorder and can't remember.

I still love them though and will continue to read all these suckers that I can get my dirty pirate hooker hands on.

My relationship with this author is a simple, yet perfect one. She writes it...and I read it ;)

I have read every book in the the "Deep in your Veins" series, the "Dark In You" series, the  "Phoenix Pack" series and of course the "The Mercury Pack" series. To say that I am a big fan of Suzanne Wright, would be an understatement.

tumblr_myudw0uPoS1rz4eo5o1_500.gif (500×212)

So when I saw this baby on Netgalley, I jumped on it :P

Now all these books center around a different couple, so technically they could be read as a stand-alone. I would advise everyone to read this series, and the Phoenix Pack series, in order though.

I am so glad I did because I really enjoyed it. Now I have to be honest here and say that I was hoping for Trick or Dominic's story to be next, but I found out they are next in line ;) Doesn't really matter anyway, because all these Alpha boys are fine !!!

jaydenkiss GIF

This time we got Zander and Gwen's story.. the first shifter/human couple of both series!

Zander is an enforcer for The Phoenix pack. He is the quiet broody type and I am happy to say that, unlike many of his packmates, he isn't a real big manwhore. This is mostly because his wolf doesn't really appreciate female attention. So no crazy ex hookups in this one !!!

Zander's uncle recently died and Zander has to be present for the reading of the will. This is what brings him to a small and "haunted" little B&B where Gwen works.

Gwen was a pretty awesome heroine. Now I like most heroines in this series because most of them are pretty kickass, but I really liked Gwen. She may have been human, but she was seriously badass and she could definitely hold her own !!

tumblr_mxap1eUHcj1skr0luo1_500.gif (500×281)

Gwen is having some trouble though. Ever since she went to bat for a shifter, who was being abused by a bunch of humans, she has been the target of some serious harassment herself. This doesn't mean she is giving up though...it only makes her more determined to testify against them.

Zander can't help but be drawn to this fierce woman, even if she makes his wolf go into some kind of hide-out. All he has to do is win her trust...easy right ;)

s-too-expensive-eat-healthy.gif (299×200)

I loved how protective Zander was of Gwen, but I loved it even more, how Gwen stood up for herself. These two were extremely HOT, though I wasn't surprised by this since Suzanne really knows how to write steamy scenes.

tumblr_mp88iceZVt1sxai8lo1_500.gif (500×280)

There was plenty of action to keep me entertained and I finished this book in one go.

I am not going into the story more than this since I don't want to spoiler the book for anyone. I think this was a wonderful addition to the series, and Gwen is definitely one of my favorite heroines in this and the Phoenix pack series.

After three books it finally feels like a Mercury Pack book and not a Phoenix Pack extended book. It helped of course that no one from the Phoenix Pack made an appearance. This was strictly a Mercury Pack show even if most of it takes place away from their home.

Gwen Miller is human. She and her family run a haunted inn that has a marsh for a backyard. She's a witness in a vile crime, an entitled teenager drugging and beating a female shifter, and she's being harassed over it. But Gwen wont back down and refuses to be bribed or intimidated into changing her testimony. Her need to do what is right and stand up for the shifter is ingrained to her very being.

description

Zander Devlin books a room at Gwen's inn and is soon intrigued by her. When he finds out what she did for one of his kind he wants to help and keep her safe from everything and everyone. But she's not the only one that has troubles. Zander has his own bad childhood and nemesis that has shaped him and his wolf.

description

Zander finds himself drawn to Gwen. Her strength and desire to do the right thing along with a set of killer legs are irresistible to him even if his wolf backs away at her presence. But getting to know Gwen and being with her is no bed of roses and our wolf has his work cut out for him.

"To have someone made specifically for you - someone who would never betray you, never hurt you, and would always cherish you- would be something special."

"Baby, why is it so hard to believe I simply want to know you? Why does there have to be some sort of technical reason for it? {..} I like what I know about you. I want to know more."

"Fuck, yes. I want you with me. I want you in my pack. I want you to be there when I wake up."

Things as always with out wolves are not that easy. Gwen and Zander have enemies gunning for them as well their own personal issues to overcome. But again, as always they have pack and in Gwens case family to support them through it all.

description

So why not 5 stars? Well, first because it didn't feel memorable to me. SW followed her pack formula faithfully and it felt just a teeny weeny samey (I hope the literary gods don't strike me down for my hubris.) And secondly because it lagged a bit in the middle. It felt a bit like spending time until we got to the big event/action towards the end(again, hubris.) But I loved absolutely loved the setting of the haunted inn with a marsh behind it and all the secondary characters in Gwens family. Particularly uncle Donnie. Give me a big Victorian house, tell me it's haunted and I'll be happy to read it. A great addition to the series even with the teeny tiny issues.

Awesome story and so much humor!

I just love the little humorous threads that the author has going through these books. Like the fact that Makenna is so outrageously superstitious, Dominic and his sleazy pick up lines, and now Gwen has her own funny thing that she does to irritate Zander. There is a lot of humor in these books, which I love, but also a lot of action and romance!

Jesse’s frown returned as he looked back at the females. “They all look deep in conversation over there, don’t they? I think they’re talking about us. Typical. Just typical.”

“The Matrix could so be real,” insisted Harley. Ally’s nose wrinkled.
“Some of your theories do have substance, but I’m not convinced.”

"I want you with me. I want you in my pack."

Lure of Oblivion is the third book in the Mercury Pack. Although this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone. The Mercury Pack is a spin-off of the Phoenix Pack and both packs are full of alpha male shifters and their sassy shifter mates. With each book release, I become more entranced by this world and believe me when I say I will never get enough.

description
"Baby...I couldn't give you up even if I wanted to."
Gwen Miller is a human who has been thrust into a deadly battle. By trying to protect a shifter who was brutally attacked, she has put herself and her family in danger. When enforcer Zander Devlin checks into the inn where Gwen works, he is instantly drawn to her. Although it is rare for a shifter and a human to mate, it is possible. As Zander and Gwen grow closer, the battle between the "shifter hating humans" and the shifters continues to escalate. Gwen is in danger and Zander will do whatever it takes to keep her safe and make her his forever!
"I'm greedy-I want all of you. I want you with me every day and every night."
Told in dual POV, Lure of Oblivion is another winning shifter read with passion, romance, action, and suspense. Ms. Wright has created a fantastical world full of complex characters living under intense circumstances. I found the human/shifter mating twist to be quite unique and as always with this series, once I started reading, I COULD NOT STOP!

description

Overall, I highly recommend Lure of Oblivion to all of my paranormal romance friends! This is one world where I will never get enough!

You guys know I'm a big fan of Suzanne Wright and all her previous books that I've read were really good. Especially the Dark in You series. I truly love those. So when I started reading this book I had quite high hopes for it. Now, I wouldn't say it's a bad story but I also wouldn't say it blew me away. It's kinda in the middle. At times I felt bored but then again, there were moments where I really got into the story and the characters. I adored Gwen, she so to say saved this story for me. Zander was all right but I didn't feel the connection to him, at least not as much as I did to Gwen. Also, about his wolf, I'm not sure how I feel about him. At first I was confused and a bit weirded out but by the end, I don't know. The change happened a bit fast for me. The secondary characters were also great and I liked seeing the characters from previous books make an appearance in this book. I even liked the 'bad guys', they were sorta pathetic but also funny and at times they even made my blood boil, so that's a good way to make the villain.
So all in all, it's a good story but not the best I've read by this author. That being said, I'll definitely read more of her work.

This is a tough one to review because although I liked it, I didn't love it like I have most of Wright's books and I'm not too sure why. Wright is an auto-buy author for me, but this one was a bit of a let down. See, it had the strong, sassy heroine - albeit a human one - who took no crap, a hot and growly alpha shifter, no lack of communication, getting to revisit the previous characters, a decent bit of the old suspense and nary a TSTL move in sight, buuuuut ... IDK, there was just something missing.

Gwen being human was a great twist on the true mates idea, but both her and Zander came across as a wee bit flat and one dimensional. I couldn't really connect with either of them and to be honest, even the "baddies" didn't work.

Edited 6/10/17 - After thinking on this I'm pushing my rating up to 4 stars because compared to some of the PN books I've been reading lately this one is WAY better

"She was more. She was everything."

It may have taken me a while to get around this series, but oh my!!! How much i did enjoy this book!!!
I love Phoenix pack, and I love Mercury pack and their stories are never enough!!!
I'm always in need for more and more, even though it's taking me some time to come around!!! Bahahaha...
This time it was Zander's turn to find his mate, and what a surprise was that!!!

Once you go shifter, you'll never go back...

Well, Gwen Miller was a human girl who had seen many ugly things during her life, but these things hadn't stopped her for going against her own kind...
All had started when Gwen had discovered in her property a young man attacking a young shifter girl... From that moment, Gwen is determined to not back down to the threats that the boy and his family are making her and for the girl to receive justice!!!
Unfortunately, the people around her are giving her too many shits and she doesn't need more troubles in her life at this moment...

“You’re good at ignoring people, aren’t you, Gwen?”
“Dude, I’m so good at it, I can make people doubt that they’re actually alive.”

Zander Devlin is an enforcer in the Mercury pack... Recently, his uncle had passed away and he has to travel away their territory for opening his will... In that trip, he is staying on the Miller's B&B and unwillingly, he is becoming aware of the troubles that are following Gwen because she is determined to protect one of his kind and he and his best friend, are deciding to stay more time and in a way, to protect her...
Unfortunately, after the opening of the will, he has his own issues with his evil twin!!!

"I'm suspicious of whatever I don't understand. You, Gwen, are a mystery in many ways."

As you can understand, Gwen and Zander are having too many problems to face...
They are both similar in a way... They are not trusting easily and they were always the protectors...
As they're interacting with one another, there is sexual tension around them... and sooner or later, they're gonna act upon it!!!
But what are the odds for those two to be together when they are belonging to different kind???

"Baby, why is it so hard to believe I simply want to know you? Why does there have to be some sort of technical reason for it?... I like what I know about you. I want to know more."

"Baby...I couldn't give you up even if I wanted to."

Well, i loved so much Gwen... She was a tough and determined lady... Yep, she was a little bit stubborn and untrusting, but she had her reasons... She was used to be everyone's rock and she had forgotten how to rely on someone else...
She was always fascinated by the shifters and by their mating bond... and that was one of the reasons why she couldn't trust Zander and his actions!!!

"Gwen was also fascinated by the whole true-mate thing. To have someone made specifically for you—someone who would never betray you, never hurt you, and would always cherish you—would be something special. She envied them that."

Zander was an alpha wolf, like all the rest of these guys of Suzanne Wright's books!!! And i loved him that way!!! Bahaha...
He was a man with no many words and who couldn't open up easily to other people...
For an unknown reason, he was instantly attracted to Gwen, even though his wolf was acting weird around her... and exactly for that reason, he was determined to get closer to her!!! Stubborn man!!!
And of course, he was possessive as hell, like all these guys!!! Again, i liked it!!!! LOL

"I told you that you're mine. Not just for now. For good."

This couple was pure fire and they were fitting perfectly together... I really loved them, but except from romance, there was too many storyline behind that it kept the interest in high levels...
Of course, the rest of the Mercury pack wolves were made an appearance (others had a big part and others smaller), but i was so happy to see them for once again... Of course, we saw and some of the Phoenix pack!!!
Before i close my review, i have to mark that Gwen's foster family and especially Donnie were soooo cool!!!!

You’re already mine, and I’m already yours. Nothing will change that. Not a thing. I wanted you for keeps before I realized we were mates. I am keeping you, no matter what.”

I want Suzanne Wright to write a million of these books. As long as she writes them, I'll read them!
I love the world she created and the characters as well. This is one of my all-time favorite PNR series EVER. The formula works and I'm in love with it!

In this installment, Zander meets his match! While I'm not a fan of the shifter human relationship dynamic, this one worked better than others. I think the combination of Zander being aloof and Gwen accepting that their relationship was only casual in the beginning helped make this more appealing. Normally, I'm all for mating in the first chapter, but the two of them getting to know one another helped.
The book is action-packed, several former characters make an appearance, and the main characters are strong and independent. All major wins in my book.
My only minor issues were the secondary characters/villains and the ending. The antagonists grated on my very last nerve! I know part of that is natural. But these douches just plain ol sucked. The violence towards the MCs at the end felt over the top and was a bit too much for me. I get it's fiction and these books are all violent, but having the human on human violence at the end just didn't sit well with me. It wasn't a major detraction, but I felt it was too drawn out. Just my humble opinion.
Other than that, I loved it as usual and will anxiously await future releases in this series on pins and needles!

Human Gwen Miller and her family run a haunted inn where shifters Bracken and Zander come to stay. Gwen witnessed an entitled ass of a human male brutally beating a female shifter, coming forward as a witness, she refuses to cower and lie about what she saw leading to her being harassed by the male and his wealthy family.

Zander Devlin finds his wolf strangely still when in the presence of Gwen, his wary but intrigued as a man. When he finds out what she did for one of his kind he wants to help and ensure she is kept safe - the idea of harm coming to her making his blood boil.

A nice read, it's a Suzanne Wright book so I enjoyed this re-read, but this book still isn't one of my favourites. There's a level of oomph missing between Gwen and Zander. Plus they're not a couple that make me smile or smirk like the others in this series and the connected series.

The supernatural element with the ghosts, I don't know it fell like it wasn't really needed.

I have never been disappointed in a Suzanne Wright book.

Gwen, while human, is a strong female lead. Zander is a quiet, broody male shifter. They are attracted to each other and the story takes off from there. The story-line is good, the suspense is good, the secondary characters are great. I guess I just really did not get Zander, but, still enjoyed the story. I will absolutely continue to read Ms Wright's books, they always have delivered a great story for me.

4.25 ‘She’s everything’ Stars

I can honestly say Suzanne Wright is my favorite PNR author, and every time one of her releases is imminent I get giddy with excitement, and this was no exception!

Lure of Oblivion, Zander and Gwen’s story is the third of The Mercury Pack and my favorite so far!

Gwen was also fascinated by the whole true-mate thing. To have someone made specifically for you—someone who would never betray you, never hurt you, and would always cherish you—would be something special. She envied them that.

Both main characters were fantastic and totally kickass, and it was amazing to see some of the rest of the gang. The change of setting was bittersweet since though it gave us a fresh view and awesome new characters, of course we couldn't get the full on experience of the Mercury pack in their land. I did love this new fresh take that Suzanne Wright gave us in this story, and specially that Gwen is a human! I've been so looking forward to a shifter/human pairing, so maybe it's one of the reasons for which it became my fav of this series.

“You’re good at ignoring people, aren’t you, Gwen?”
“Dude, I’m so good at it, I can make people doubt that they’re actually alive.”

You don’t like that? Go Yahoo, Who gives a rat’s ass? I can promise you won’t find my name.”

LMAO! Nobody, and I mean nobody does this type of snarky, witty humor like Ms. Wright! I mean, it takes one to know one, right?! How could I not be completely in love with Gwen – as usual with SW’s heroines – and all her sarcastic and teasing splendor?! And Zander… Oh Lordy, was that wolfy HOT!!! And for someone who claims to be so aloof and apathetic to others (outside of his pack), he sure does shows us a different and how caring, loving and POSSESSIVE he is towards Gwen from the very start. Oh, and OTT sexy, how could I for get that?! Zander was ‘ovary imploding’ hot!

“So, you like to use toys in bed?”
Zander grinned wickedly and lightly squeezed her thigh. “You’d be my toy, baby.”

Suzanne Wright has once again created true PNR beauty, and given us EVERYTHING in Lure of Oblivion: funny, emotional, thrilling, sexy, steamy and loving endless moments that are keep getting us more and more addicted to her stories and all these characters. And the new countdown start till the new SW brilliancy, and I can’t wait!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3

She was more. She was everything.

You’re already mine, and I’m already yours. Nothing will change that. Not a thing. I wanted you for keeps before I realized we were mates. I am keeping you, no matter what.”

It's never a good thing when i pick and put a book down 4 times.. I had to force myself to finish this.
I dnfed book 2 because the whole heroine wasn't his true mate thing. And he knew he wanted her and thought of her as his but he didn't go after her.
Anyway in this book the heroine was a good heroine, I liked her but I just didn't liked the hero. He was no Derren (hero from book 1) he was just too cold for me. I didn't feel any connection with him. His wolf always shied away from the heroine supposedly because he was too "broken" for him to noticed that the heroine was his true mate.

I'm interested in reading about Eli. Hopefully i won't have to wait long.

Suzanne Wright is the only writer that can write about shifters in a way I can actually enjoy, since well, I admit it freely, shifters ain't my fave creatures to start with,

BUT

my SUZ (*wink* yeah, I ve head the honor of meeting her in person #RAREBerlin2017, so I can call her that too 😉) makes these dominant, protective, possessive alphas look damn fine even while wearing fur...

So, damn...

I decided to avoid SW books because of Greta but I usually get request fingers when I see a book on read now on netgallery from authors I like, I just click on it without thinking. I was prepared to suffer through it, because : Greta. Imagine my joy when I realized it was the story of another pack. Whew.

Although I'm pleased there is no Greta in this book, I really didn't enjoy it as much, it lacked a certain je ne sais quoi. I liked Gwen, I was ok with Zander but their story, not so much. It just lacked something. Heck, that house had tons of potential, I was expecting more to happen in terms of the paranormal activity that was the selling point of it but nothing substantial did until the very end.

Also, the thing with Rory, it was jarring. I understand why it happened but still...shocking.

3 „I am totally bummed about this book“ stars.

I am a Ms. Wright fan and I love all her series. She sucks you. Gives you great characters with quirky personalities and a zest for life and for them to find their mates. There is snark, there is a knock your socks off plot. There are shenanigans you love and cannot wait to read about again and again. It’s like coming home and it is the same here as well

but

the new instalment in the Mercury Pack just didn’t work for me. Out of all of the books that this talented lady has written a total of 18 (I counted) I have only ever 3 stared one book and that was Nick & Shay’s book. This is the second book that is to be 3 stared and I am completely bummed about it.

It isn’t even the fact that our heroine is human. That was a good plot line to through with and it made the book unique to the others that have been written. It just unfortunately lacked that spark that could have moved it from good to bloody brilliant. I just couldn’t connect to Gwen.

It was the Hero. You know I couldn’t remember one memorable thing about him. I couldn’t connect to him either. I was more interested in Bracken than Zander. I feel as if I shouldn’t need to go back and reread the books if you know what I mean.

The one thing that really got to me though was Zander calling Gwen my baby and well that just reminded me of nappies and well that she was any moment going to turn around and say yes daddy.

This just my personal opinion. Each to their own. Enjoy it!

4 Stars!

Another amazing shifter romance by Suzanne Wright! Ms. Wright never seems to get them wrong... hehe

Zander is saying at a B&B in Oregon while he takes care of some family business. An employee at the B&B Gwen instantly grabs his attention. He knows it is physical attraction, but there is something deeper that pulls him towards this little human.

Gwen witnessec a hate crime against a shifter female and is determined to get justice for her. With the trial approaching the family of the accused is determined to get her to change her witness statement. Zander not only cares for Gwen but he is determined to help her for protecting his own kind.

Zander was such a sexy alpha male. His possessiveness was off the charts and don't get me started on the dirty talk... Ugh I loved how he called her baby.

"I love hearing my baby scream..."

"My baby's being a good girl for me, I like that."

An overall amazing read, I loved the characters and the story. Can't wait for the next read!

Suzanne Wright is an automatic read for me and Lure of Oblivion just proved it once again. I just love the maturity of her characters. I can be pretty picky out heroines. I like my male characters to be pretty dominant but I need the female character to be strong as well. I just prefer reading a female character that stands up for herself and doesn't create more unnecessary drama due to lack of communication.

Gwen is hands down one of my favorites. She stands up for herself in every way. She is being bullied and instead of backing down, she stands for what she believes is the right thing no matter the cost to herself. Even handling her very dominant wolf shifter, Zander she allows him to be what he needs, while still being what she needs to be for herself. That seems to be such a rare quality in a female lead lately.

Zander was equally as great as Gwen. The dominance you see in his character isn't there to just be in charge. He genuinely needs to protect and care for Gwen and his pack mates. When she does something he doesn't like, these two handled it maturely. I get such a kick out of reading a couple like this.

I genuinely can't wait for more in this series. There is just so many good side characters to look forward too.

3.5 stars. Another decent addition to the series.

Well, I think it has been obvious for many many books now that SW continues to write the same hero and heroine and a similar story with slight differences. It sometimes gets to me, but I have decided to just ignore it and enjoy the ride.

This book is the same as all the rest, with a ghostly spin and a hero who is very clueless about his feelings. Thankfully there’s no OW drama and minimal OM drama (from someone the heroine has no interest in).

Safety is very good in this one. 👏

For me this was the best one so far. I really liked Gwen and her whole crazy family.

Add to this mix the moody and broody Zander and I was one happy bunny.

I liked everything about this so it’s straight onto the next one for me.

4.5 stars.
When I spotted this as a "read now" on the netgalley site, I honestly couldn't add it to my kindle fast enough.
I really love Suzanne Wright's wolf-shifter books (both the Mercury Pack and the Phoenix Pack series). I had already pre-ordered this one on amazon so it was an added bonus getting to read it early.
Zander was a character that the reader doesn't know much about- up until now, so I really liked that we get his full story and also that his mate ends up being a human. Gwen's mental toughness as well as her ability to hold her own in a fight situation with other humans definitely showed her strength as well. This made for a little different story from others in the series and was really enjoyable reading.
Seriously this author NEVER disappoints and this was a solid 4+++ stars for me.

Lure of Oblivion is the third exciting installment, of the Mercury Pack series. There is a lot of fun to be had  in this story and really this whole series. The story sets off with a exciting thrill to it. Gwen Miller, is human, but when she stumbles across a lone shifter girl being beaten by a pole, she intervened and reported it to the authorities. Now she is being contantly tormented by those boys who once assaulted her new found friend who she protects. But until the hearing from the shifter council, she must stay strong and fight them off no matter how bad it gets. Zander has arrived at Gwen's inn at just the right time, when the violence has escalated and has gained a certain respect for a human defending his own kind when humans rarely do especially at such a great risk to themselves. Zander and his wolf have always been wary of women. However his wolf is somewhat different around Gwen. Wary, but not trying to push women away like normal and Zander doesn't know why Gwen is so different. But he soon realizes that she is his true mate and he must prove to her of his devotion and passion for her all the while making sure Gwen is protected by their enemies.

This was such a wonderful story that I easily breezed my way through. Like always with this author, I fell in love with the story and the characters and the action and the romance of course!! It was pretty great to get to know Zander more though. He has always been more reserved and apart from the others. He tends to brood quite a bit. Of course he has some tough history. A twin who is pretty mentally insane and violent and has always been that way. Then we have the three boys who have fathers who always spoil them and protect them and never let them suffer any consequences and boy they are pretty bad villains in the story. I did like seeing the way the story unfolded in a way thouhg. Its slightly predictable, but a book you can easily relax into and just enjoy the ride. I think what I enjoyed most was seeing Gwen and Zander learn to trust and seeing the slow built romance form between them. Even though we have the whole"fated mate" aspect going on, we see quite a bit of emotional development that makes you swoon and sigh. If I had to pick who my favorite character it would be Gwen. She is so fearless, and always going to be doing the right thing no matter how dangerous the situation. I respected her so much in this book because we so how much she puts herself at risk for someone else and seeing that they get the justice they deserve.

***Edit to upgrade to 5 stars, this book has slowly become one of my favorite audios. Gwen and Zander are awesome***

3.5 stars. Okay so Suzanne Wright has definitely become a Kristen Ashley author for me. Meaning a 3 or 4 star is better than some other authors 5 stars. These two really need their own grading scale, separate from other authors.

Was this my favorite of hers? Nope. Was it similar to the rest? Yup. Did I love every second? Abso-fucking-lutely! Why only 3.5 stars? Because when rating this book, it just can't be on the same scale and Knox, Alex, Bracken, and Jesse. Will I read it again? Damn right I will.

Do not think just because it isn't 5 stars that I didn't absolutely love this book.

Because I did. You need these little slower books to really appreciate some of the others.

Now for this book! I love that it is a human and a shifter. But at the same time, I felt like I was missing something, and I still can't put my finger on it. I did love how Zander's wolf was timid of Gwen, and how the storyline worked. And sadly once again there are a few storylines that I feel like could have been more or left out completely leaving more room for the others.

I won't lie, I do wish I would have gone back and forth now with the Phoenix and Mercury Packs. Having finished the Phoenix pack I know some of what happens to these characters (does it take away, absolutely not at all), so I'm sitting here waiting for specific things to happen, especially to Bracken. I have a feeling the next book will rip my heart out!

So lets get going on the next book!!

I've loved this authors shifter stories and both the Mercury Pack and the Phoenix Pack books are always books that I sit down and relish. This time though it's a story that features a very human heroine but rest assured there's still plenty of chest beating shifter goodness!
Gwen is such a vibrant, ballsy heroine and right from the start it's plain to see that it would take a special kind of guy to match up to her. Gwen doesn't go quietly or back down and she's determined to see justice served no matter what she has to do. She might live in a haunted house but believe me her problems are very real indeed . It doesn't matter who threatens her Gwen won't let the female shifter down.
Zander and his wolf are frequently at odds when it comes to females but he's never quite experienced his wolf acting the way he does around Gwen . Normally fearless and yet now withdrawing from the human woman is something Zander cannot understand. Still Zander can see that Gwen is a puzzle, a conundrum and he's not one to walk away when someone needs help even if Gwen doesn't quite appreciate his methods!
I really liked both characters and it was an interesting situation they found themselves in. Plus the supporting characters added greatly to the fun although I was a little nonplussed by the ghostly intervention. There are truly vile bad guys for the reader to boo and hiss at and yet this isn't my favourite book in this series. I guess my problem is Zanders wolf as everything just seemed to change overnight. I can understand the wolfs caution and the explanation made perfect sense but from out of nowhere things seemed to completely change! Still I did really enjoy reading this and happily recommend it to those who enjoy shifter books and I'm so looking forward to whatever else this talented author dreams up next.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Wow! I absolutely loved the latest in Suzanne Wright’s Mercury Pack! It is everything I want in a shifter romance.

Gwen is being harassed after witnessing a lone female shifter being beaten by a group of human thugs. Although the female has recanted her statement, due to similar harassment, Gwen refuses to do so. Too many times has she had to keep quiet against injustice and she won’t do it this time.
When Zander arrives at the B&B where Gwen lives and works, his wolf instantly backs away from her. The wolf is wary and guarded and confusing the heck out of Zander. After becoming aware of the trouble at Gwen’s door, he steps up to assist her by offering her and her family protection until she is able to testify.

Gwen is one tough heroine, able to protect herself in her own way and I loved that she could so easily get under Zander’s skin and drive him crazy. Zander knows that Gwen is independent, but he also knows something she doesn’t and he’s not going anywhere. The way he carefully handles the situation endeared him to me along with his protective instincts and desires.

This is a fast paced, action filled story with a couple of storylines running through it that kept me engaged the whole time. The secondary characters from previous books added to the overall feel of pack and family and that was exactly what Gwen needed and I needed that for Gwen. Amazing read that just made me hungry for the next one.

This is an honest review of an advanced copy provided by NetGalley and Montlake Publishing.

Dual POV
Safe – no ow drama and a tad of unwanted by the heroine om drama
Possible triggers – violence, emotional abuse, heroine’s mother abused
