Darren Camp currently lives in Seattle, Washington, USA, but is a displaced “Hoosier” having been born in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, home of the world famous Indy 500.
Darren is proud to have worked for The 5th Avenue “Musical” Theatre, ‘birthplace’ of five Tony Award-winning Broadway Musicals: Hairspray, Shrek, Catch Me If You Can, Memphis and Disney’s Aladdin. Three of Darren's published works are Broadway Musical scripts. Darren currently works for Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle.
Darren was first "published" in 4th grade, at Oak Hill Elementary School in Evansville, Indiana. Every grade level in the school was given a different writing or art project. All 4th graders were instructed to write a short story explaining why something is the way it is today. Darren wrote a story about why bears have short, stubby tails instead of longer tails. The best entries, including Darren's, were chosen for each grade level and put together in a "book" made up by the school, titled "Sand Castles."
When Darren isn't writing, he likes to play the guitar, and previously had a 'gretal' (grunge-metal) band called "SEA." SEA's debut (and only) album, "Arrival," written, performed, recorded and engineered by Darren, is up on YouTube. Darren also does voice-overs and narration for videos. See the videos section of Darren's author profile to hear an example of his work done for the Canadian government.
I really liked this book I actually have read it twice now. I think this is a book everyone should read at least once in their childhood. I liked the characters but my favorite was definitely wilbur. I think the book was super cute and enjoyable to read. I wish the book had more about Charlett's web and how the people came to see it. I feel like that part was too short for it to be the main theme.
In the book Charlette’s Web, a pig named Wilbur is born as the runt of the litter of pigs. Given to farmers daughter Fern, who raised him as her pet. Eventually, Fern’s father gave Wilbur to Fern’s uncle Homer Zuckerman. At the new farm Wilbur meets Charlette, a spider who lives near Wilbur. Charlette discovers that Wilbur might be slaughtered and comes up with a way to help Wilbur survive. Charlette begins to weave phrases about Wilbur into her web making Wilbur a famous pig and a tourist attraction. This didn’t help Wilbur win the blue ribbon at the county fair, but he won a special prize and the farmer didn’t hurt him. I really liked this book because the theme of it was about friendship and perseverance. Why did the farmer give away Wilbur to his brother when it was his daughter pet? I didn’t understand why Charlette decided to pass at the county fair, but I liked that Wilbur brought back her eggs for the babies to hatch at the farm. https://www.bing.com/images/search?vi...
One day a pig had babies and one of the baby pigs was a runt. So the farmer wanted to kill the baby pig but the farmer's daughter said dont kill it. I will take care of the pig so she did.
Wilbert was the main character. He was saved by the girl in the beginning of the book. He was just a big pig now but one night he was lonely and asked if anybody wanted to play with him. But nobody wanted to play then a spider said hi wilbert and he said who said that and she said it is me and said i am sharlet and since then they were friends.
One day wilbert was scared because the duck said he was going to die in the winter for food so sharlet made him a promise that he won't die and she will save him. So she did and saved him. She made webs for him that called him nice words. But that wasn't enough. He had to win a contest but he lost then she made one last word that saved him. But i won't tell you you have to watch the movie or read the book.
You should read the book first then watch the movie.

The book is about a pig named Wilber. The pig makes a beautiful friendship with a spider named Charlette. When the pig gets older the famer wants to kill him. Since Wilber and Charlette became such good friends, Charlette leaves messages in her web to save Wilber from getting killed.
I enjoyed this book. I think it taught a good lesson about having each other's back. I loved the story behind it with Charlette saving Wilber like she did. It is a very good read.
I would recommend this book to middle schoolers who want to read something about animals. It is a great story that shows the kindness of friendship and would be a great book if you are into the type of books that shows a problem that gets resolved.
In this book there are diverse characters. The farmer wants to kill Wilber and use him for food once he got bigger, but Charlette and Wilber had a different idea.
In the movie it is portrayed as a musical and the book is not. In the movie Wilber speaks right away but, in the book, he doesn’t speak till he gets to the farm.
Charlotte's Web by Garth William is a fiction novel about a girl named Fern and her pet pig she saved from her dad “doing away with it” when she found out what that meant she was intimidated so she begged to keep it. I really connected to fern because if only one pig was getting killed because of its size I would have done the same thing as fern. I give this book a 5/5 because I really like reading about animals and if you do to, I suggest you should read this book too.
This book was read to me at a very young age and it was nice to have a refresher. This book definitely hits home at some parts and can be a tad emotional. I think this is another great read aloud or on your own book.
This book was a childhood favorite of mine. I've always enjoyed reading about the unlikely friendship of a pig and a spider, and the great lengths that each will go through to ensure the well-being of the other. It's a heart-warming story and loved by many children.
I thought that this book was a very cute book to read. It hit a lot of important topics for kids, but also kept it adorable to read. I would recommend this book.
great book that makes me think about how much i wish animals could talk. it has a storyline witha bad character and at the end gets very sad. a good book for upper elementary students.
Although this book never made me cry, it was still a emotional rollercoaster. This book is great for kids, but have tissues on had for when they read the end. The truly is a book to be remembered.
I remember really hating this story. I'm not a fan of much of anything here, although the writing is of good quality. I know it's a classic and all, but I just didn't enjoy it.
Charlotte’s Web is a classic because the book teaches young readers the importance of friendship, love, and how we as humans need to treat each other. E. B. White did such a fantastic job there is no room for improvement. The critters and the people get along so well and they are so "real" you can easily imagine them. I recommend to any child, young or old, who wants some quiet time with their imaginations.
I personally really enjoyed this book because it is about this pig call Wilber and a spider Charlette. The care taker of Wilber is Fern. Fern is the daughter of the father and mother. Wilber was the runt of the piglets and he wasn't getting the food or nutrients needed to live. One day Fern's father had decided to go out and kill Wilber. Fern had seen this and went outside to stop her father. She said that he wasn't aloud to kill the poor thing. Fern's father explained that Wilber was going to die either way. So Fern had decided to bottle feed Wilber and take care of him so he could live. IS this the best book? Will you like it? Read to find out.
This book is about a pig that is the runt of the litter, so the pig, Wilber, is given to the daughter to raise as a pet. However, as the daughter and Wilber grow older the pig is eventually given to another farmer. At this farm Wilber meets a spider named Charlette, where they grow to become good friends. One day Charlette overhears that Wilber is going to be killed and quickly thinks of a plan to save him. As a result the spider spins a bunch of webs saying unique things that lead to Wilber's life being saved. The two travel to many places to show the amazing pig that spins webs with words on them, but eventually the spider dies. Throughout the story the pig and spider create a unique friendship that readers could be surprised to see form. This friendship can teach students that even though everyone is different, there are things that people have in common. People can use this common ground to create friendships that could last them a life time. As most books do not always have a happy ending, I thought it was very sad to see the spider die that is why I gave the book a 3/5.
I absolutely loved his book! I would definitely read this again as I couldn't put the book down! The friendship that was shown throughout this book was so pure and affectionate. This would be a great book to your to your class as it could teach them what a true friendship looks like.
