High-speed European train tracks. Car tire tracks. The tracks up a user’s arm. Tucson’s gutsy PI Cassidy Clark and her best friend, attorney Breecie Lemay, take on the mob in this fast-paced international thriller, chasing a drug lord they deem responsible for the death of their college girlfriend turned mob boss wife, Catherine, who was in the process of divorcing the powerful Anthony Bibbione. Once they test the stolen ashes from Catherine ’s urn, they are shocked to learn that they aren’t human ashes, but those of an animal. What has really happened to Catherine? As the Cosa Nostra has command of the distribution of heroin in the Tucson area, Cassidy assembles her team of investigators to track down the local bad guys, while she and Breecie fly to Catherine’s beloved Rome and attempt to locate her son and perhaps her true cremains. Journeying from Rome to Florence, the duo finds themselves in Monteriggioni tracking down evidence that proves Bibbione’s pregnant mistress was also dead, slaughtered with the dead child removed, in a likely clumsy attempt to stop a paternity test. As the body count rises the two friends rack up the evidence, until inevitably, they end up kidnapped themselves. This well-executed thriller/crime-fiction tale not only takes us on a tour of Italy but also on a tour inside of the mind of a sociopath, as presented by author Corriere with her trademark twists and turns that keep the reader in a tailspin until the end.

Lala writes suspense with romantic elements. While she enjoys vivid descriptions of the most nefarious of characters, she also insists on including a redeeming social message in her work, bringing readers to experience human conditions in ways that many may not be familiar. ‘With a deeper awareness,’ Corriere says, comes acceptance, small or life changing.’ Readers and reviewers applaud her hallmark original plots, her in-depth character portrayals, rich scene settings, and authentic dialogue, all delivered with a fresh new voice. Oh, and she's now diving into Magical Realism with one of her favorite characters. A cane. Lala is a desert rat. She nestles there with her husband of over 32 years, Chuck, and the newest kids, Teacup Yorkies Finnigan and Phoebe. She has three sons: Jason, University of Colorado. Cameron, Vanderbilt University. And Tyler, University of Puget Sound. She’s a full-time writer. Interests include her professional critique partnerships and active memberships, art, gardening, entertaining, and enjoying the abundant wildlife that have found a sanctuary on her grounds.
Once again Lala Corriere spins a great mystery! Just when you think you've got it all figured out, she throws in a new continent and a new killer! I love Cassidy Clark, PI, Lala is very good at adding depth to all of her characters. The research and unique subject matter make each one of her books exceptional. Definitely a great summer read!
There is nothing like TRACKS. It's a page-turner, for sure. Took a minute to get used to its first-person presentation, but after I did, wow! You can really get into the head of Cassidy Clark, a beautiful and daring woman. If you like suspense, investigations, and the Arizona desert, you may love this book as much as I did.
