Rate this book
She who would be queen must win the love of a king—and a country.

Whitehall is a royal tale full of true history and sensual intrigue, from Serial Box Publishing. Set in the 17th century court of King Charles II and his queen, Portuguese princess Catherine of Braganza. Her journey to find her place as the foreign wife in a court riddled with political and religious intrigue -- not to mention the many mistresses of Charles the “Merry Monarch” -- is a tale of perseverance only a true queen could endure. Love mingles with betrayal before a sensual renaissance of art, culture, and sex in this lush historical serial.

Whitehall is written by Liz Duffy Adams, Delia Sherman, Barbara Samuel, Mary Robinette Kowal, Madeleine Robins, and Sarah Smith

Originally presented serially in 13 episodes, this omnibus collects all installments of Whitehall Season One into one edition.

When a Portuguese princess marries the King of England, she encounters unexpected obstacles, including the king’s mistress.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT: Vivid, smooth narration, historical fiction, serious drama and romance

This was just wonderful and may be one of my favorites so far and considering how many *good* ones Serial Box (now Realm) has produced, that's saying something.

Love the history and the characters both great and small. Obviously, since this is an historical novel, there are a number of famous players many of whom aren't so famous at the start of the story (including Nell Gwynne who was one of Charles' many mistresses). It's interesting to see where some of these people got their starts.

Now, on to Season 2!

This is a series based on the marriage of Catherine of Braganza and Charles II. The series is told in thirteen parts and has multiple voices, mainly from Catherine, Charles, Barbara Villiers and a servant girl. I really enjoyed this read, especially the parts which were told from Catherine’s perspective - she is one of my favourite Queens after all. I would highly recommend this series and If you enjoy reading about the Stuarts, definitely give this a go - especially if you love Catherine of Braganza. The main three historical characters are fleshed out as well as the secondary ones, which helps with the multiple perspectives and each character has their own distinct voice and doesn't stray to one-dimensionality. I do hope they continue with this series as I found it very enjoyable and there are plenty of mistresses to write about and this is only a quarter of Catherine's time as queen consort *fingers crossed*. 4.5 stars

Another collected serialized novel, this one is more of a standard plot arc than some of the others. (Oh, the coordination that must have happened. Then, it's historical, so they had their plotline already.) Particularly refreshing in that I don't think I've ever read a historical romance set in the Restoration before. How refreshing to get something other than Tudor/Regency/Victorian!

Somewhat uneven - possibly due to the various authors? Satisfying conclusion.
