I was given the opportunity to read The Fallen Series: Uprising in Exchange of an honest review and here are my thoughts.

The Fallen Series: Uprising was definitely nothing like I was expecting it to be and surprisingly that was the best thing that the author could’ve done! The first book left us in a place of wonder and this one answered many questions but created many others. At first I was really confused about a few things and quite honestly sad about a situation in particular, dealing with Alana and Liam. I mean, I understood from a logical poing of view what happened, but that didn’t mean I had to like it. But as soon as we are introduced to the new characters I felt more at ease to where the story was headed.

Liam is now in a place of leadership, he is no longer the simple Nephilim who was casted aside by the other Guardians all the time, and everything that happened to him shapped who he is at moment in the story. He lost the love of his life, his father and his mother figure all at once and that changed him a bit. I felt for him in a deep level and I wondered how choosing who he was or his love was even fair and the circunstances of that decision. It was a very impossible situation and I feel like whatever he would’ve chosen, he was gonna suffer.
The new characters that are introduced to us don’t feel like outsiders at all. They fit in perfectly, like they were always there. Ember is a free spirited girl who resembles Alana a little bit. Both are red heads and that was touched upon by a couple characters, but the similarities end there to me. She doesn’t feel like a copy of Alana and I’m truly grateful for that. They have completely different personalities and stories. I love how she is introduced. It made me laugh at how the situation looked like something and it turns out in something else. I also loved her relationship with her dad.

Atlas is another new character whom you quickly fall in love with. He is a very mysterious young, man who meets Ember in the beginning of the story and slowly finds his way into her life. They share a deep connection and come to really trust each other with time. I love the fact that I was completely wrong about him, in the sense of who he was, and I loved how not everything was simply black or white, the many layers made the story very intriguing and unexpected.

I enjoyed reading some of the other characters points of view like Atticus and Justin, it helped develop their characters even more and put them in the story like we needed them to be. Atticus especially had a very rich background that was touched upon in Uprising and hopefully we get to see it even more in the third book, especially after that twist with his character.

Something I felt was a little bit off, was how Ember dealt with a very big and sad thing that happened in her life. I just felt like she was rushing through things and wasn’t given time to really feel that, and it was a shame, but there’s always time in the next book, so I hope that this particular subject gets a little bit of light.

There’s many discoveries in this story and nothing is ever really as simple as it looks, on the contrary, when you think you know where the plot is headed, the author pulls the rug under your feet and flip everything up, in the best way possible. The plot twists are so incredible and leaves you wondering how that’s even possible.

I felt Ember’s atitude dealing with romance a little annoying at times, but it soon became really clear what were her true feelings, at least to me, and to be completely honest I prefer it like that, because my heart is still feeling sad over the happenings of the last book.
The descriptions of places made me really happy, I could visualize the Sanctuary perfectly and I also loved to get to know more about the Guardians and how they worked. It’s a very interesting story and I’m glad we could experience a little bit more about it.

The actions of Ember and some other characters in the book have consequences in the story that will definitely carry on to the third book and I’m very excited to see where everything goes. It looks really promising.

I do wish more than anything that Liam and Alana’s story isn’t really over, because it was so special in the first book, and I can really tell his heart still belongs to her, and that connection shouldn’t be broken without a true fight.

The lines between good and evil blurries a little bit in this story. How can angels be so cruel? How can demons be kind? It's all very complex.

The writing of Uprising was so good and I feel so proud of the writer. You can tell how hard she worked on it and it shows in her words and how her story flows beautifully here. I was so caught up in the moments that I just couldn’t put the book down easily. I definitely recommend this book, and I feel like it was an even better experience than the first one, and I truly did love that one, so that tells you something.

***SPOILER ALERT***

This book was exponentially better than the first book, The Fallen. Although some grammatical and syntax errors still remain, the storyline and world building were leaps and bounds ahead of the previous book.

While Alana has apparently moved on with Caleb (?), Liam is still a main focus here. After Idris is murdered, he is made First Guardian, even though he chose to relinquish his human side. In my humble opinion, this has made him.....an ass. He is like a spoiled child, and any warm feelings I may have had for him have been relinquished to the black nothingness.

Ember is a fantastic character. While self-involved and stubborn, she also sees the world in shades of gray. She does not see Angels as "good" and Demons as "bad". This is something that speaks to the climate of the world today and judging people based on something other than their individuality.

Atlas is a rock star. I love his character, although I do wish we had a bit more information on how he showed up at Ember's school. I assume it is due to Bastian, but how did they find her? There was mention of a list at some point, but it was never elaborated upon.

This book had something that the previous book lacked; it made me want to read the next one. The story moved along quite well, and it was cohesive in its approach. The characters have evolved, and though new characters were introduced, it tied in well to the first book.

While I may not have recommended the first book as a stand-alone, I do recommend reading it so that you can get to the rest of the series.

Overall, The Uprising was a fun read that kept me interested. I would recommend that you read it on a rainy afternoon, curled up on your couch with your cat.

This series is definitely perfect for all fans of Fantasy,Action and a little Romance. This is a short story but, it is full of action and has a well put together story line. I loved the new edition of characters, I think they really make the story come alive. The ending of this book had me wanting even more than the last book. I really hope Megan works on the next book very soon because I cannot wait to find out what is going to happen next. I know it is going to be great! If you read the first book and didn't fall in love. I still recommend you read Uprising because the story just gets better and better the more you read on.
