Lost and alone when the ship she was sailing on broke apart in a storm, Danielle had two choices, curl up her toes and die, or find a way to survive on the island she woke up on. After weeks of waiting and hoping for rescue, she had to decide to either live like a washed up sea urchin, or pull herself together and turn her island into a home. With no one to blame her failures on, the young girl chose a path, which would not only help her survive, she would thrive. Years later, a young boy, also lost at sea, washed up on her beach. The difference being, he came from a wealthy family that had the means to search for him. What Danny found, now that she was no longer a child, was that her island, although lonely, did not contain the hatefulness of society. Getting a ship captain to help her return to her island was not easy; this time, she would go equipped to make the best of the life the island had to offer.
What a great story! Danielle, Danny is shipwrecked when she is 12 years old. She wakes on an uninhabited island and suddenly this self-absorbed little girl has to fend for herself. It doesn't go well at the beginning, but eventually she realizes that help isn't going to come quickly and she better figure out how to survive. 10 years later someone else joins her on the island, a 12 year old boy from a wealthy family. It takes nearly a year, but finally a ship comes and Danny is leaving her island. Oh, at first no one knows she's a she because she is dressed like a he! When she makes it back to civilization, things aren't as great as she had hoped. No one but the family who found her accepts her, and even some of them don't really see her, they just see what they can make of her. She wants to go back to her island!
As always I loved every moment reading another book by Jean L. Kuhnke. I love that she always intertwines her stories with women who put God first. They always have great character, morals, and values. Yes this is many generations before us, it is always refreshing to read books that have no trash talk and sex. I love the strong characters and storylines. Ms. Kuhnke is one of my favorite authors. Her stories are always hard to put down. You always leave with wanting more.
What a fabulous story. This is one of the best stories I've ever read. The details and situations are awesome. I love how Danny grew up so well. She really helped Robert in the best way to take care of himself. Danny is such a role model that any young woman could follow and grow up wonderful. Danny and Stewart make an awesome couple and a great family. I would recommend this story to any reader. It is one of the best reads ever.
Danielle or Danny as she came to be known, spent over ten years shipwrecked on an island before a rescue ship arrives. This story is about growth and acceptance and is incredibly well written. I was engrossed from the first.
This story feels old fashioned and kept my interest throughout. I really liked how faith is woven all through the story. Being shipwrecked could have been such a tragedy for Danielle, but she persevered and made a home for herself. The story has adventure, sadness, danger and romance. This is a clean and wholesome book. I loved how the story ended.
