Immature woman character. I wanted to slap her. And, I really liked this character in the previous books. Sheesh!

Jan Moran can be counted on to deliver a fun yet often intriguing and suspenseful romance. Her “Love, California” series has taken me behind the scenes of the “beautiful people”, intelligent, strong women in the high stakes world of fashion and beauty. Something I love about this series is that while each book revolves around one of the women they all make appearances in the other books. These women are close friends, always supporting and encouraging each other – and always there for each other.

“Style” is a quick weekend read following an episode in the life of runway model Penelope Plessen. At a fashion show in New York, Penelope is horrified when a man pulls a gun. Fortunately no one is hurt but Penelope is quickly scooped up. Not until she is safe does she find that the man who came to her rescue was her ex-boyfriend Stefan. So begins the romantic ups and downs of most romance stories. But Ms. Moran’s series do have “meat” to them.

Stefan and Penelope were the “perfect couple” – she a beautiful and glamorous fashion model and he a handsome ex-Navy SEAL. But then Stefan betrayed Penelope with her best friend and Penelope cannot forgive him. When Stefan insists she have security around her she fights him, only agreeing when he says he will assign a female bodyguard within a few days when she wraps up her current assignment.

Upon her return to her home in California she is surrounded by the paparazzi and persistent texts from a man she has dated casually. And while Stefan is concerned for her safety, it takes blatant threats for Penelope to finally realize that perhaps she is in danger. With her friends around her and Stefan standing stubbornly by her side, she reevaluates her career options as one booking after another is cancelled.

Although this book is a romance, it is also about the complexity of relationships and the strength to carry on in your darkest times. I am looking forward to the release of the next book in the series, “Sparkle”, which will star Elena.

A Body guard, A beautiful model, and a possible killer!

Jan Moran again captures you in a romance, set with a strong, gutsy woman! Penelope is a beautiful, in demand model until someone tries to kill her! Immediately afterwards her life, her career, her privacy take a twisted turn. Who tried to kill her? And why was the man she gave her heart to years ago, only to lose him to a woman she thought was her friend, at the venue the night someone took a shot at her? Penelope thought she was over Stefan, but when he becomes her bodyguard, she realizes her heart, though hurting, is still his, but will her life ever return to normal again?

There was plenty of action in this one and there really was a chance that Penelope would make it to the end of the book which added another layer to this one. So someone is out to kill her, her career looks like it is completely over and she also has to work out her distrust and feelings for Stefan. I really liked how we finally got to know the real Penelope as even though we kinda new her she didn't have as much substance as the other ladies however now really get her. There was loads going on both good and bad that had me nibbling the inside of my mouth as I watched everything unfold.

Another good book in the series. Continues the theme though of smart lead characters failing to put 2 + 2 together to at least suspect who the villains might be. If you can overlook that, the books are light entertaining reads.
