Omg!! This is the one where Daichi dies??? RIP Daichi-san. He was such a good captain. He went too young :'(
I forgot about this team too, but I remember this game. Weird. Also there are a couple teams that got mentioned that they didn't talk about in the anime. At least that I remember... Maybe they did and I'm just brain dead lol.

We are having elections in my country and my anxiety is peaking up but reading the Haikyuu manga is helping keep me calm and I absolutely love it. Each chapter is better than the last.

Absolutely amazing!! And the bathroom scene!! That will never get old!! LOL!!!
Loved everything about this volume except for the final page. LOL! (I could not even imagine reading this while it was releasing because pretty 99% sure that has been the worse cliff hanger we've seen yet in the series…)
Johzenji has been one of my favorite teams and found this volume really fun to read because of them! They are just a hoot and really loved the gradual progression we see in them thanks to their manager. I honestly could read a spin off on them and seeing them grow as a team because that's how much I enjoy their team!
Wakunan is not my favorite team, but I easily caught myself wanting to support Takeru at least a little bit. What a great character he is! I forgot he made the comparison of Jurassic Park at home and a Petting Zoo in the volleyball world. It made me laugh and just found myself liking him.
And Daichiiiii!! While this volume is still focused on Karasuno, I LOVED seeing Daichi stand out as a "star" in this volume. He knows his players and he really is the foundation to this team. I love him so much!!
Again though, that ending was rough! I remember how frightening it was in the anime and still felt shock when reading the manga! Definitely leaves me with a whole lot of concern so I'm picking up the next volume ASAP!

I'm still loving this manga series so much! I absolutely adore all the characters and how far they've all come!
One thing I love about this series is that even though I shouldn't be rooting for the rival teams I always end up getting really invested in all their characters stories too and feel bad for them when they lose to Karasuno even though at the same time I'm glad it's Karasuno who won.
Cannot wait for Karasuno to play against teams we know and love again, however that Johzenji game was brilliant and we've already started a tough game against Wakunan!

In their first Qualifier Round, Karasuno beat Johzenji. They still have a lot of stuff to work upon though. Now, they are facing another troublesome foe "Wakunan" in Quarterfinals during which Karasuno's Captain collides with Tanaka. Things are looking quite ugly for Karasuno at the moment.

3.5 Funnily enough these opponents are a lot more entertaining than they have any right to be given their (probably) ephemeral status in the manga... very light on character work for karasuno which is fine, we're in full game mode now.

Même si j’ai encore passé un excellent moment avec ce tome de Haikyū, j’avoue l’avoir trouvé un petit peu en dessous des autres. Rien de bien méchant, c’est juste que j’ai trouvé qu’il manquait un tout petit peu d’étincelles. Tous les matchs ne peuvent pas être excitants, j’entends bien mais on a eu jusqu’à présent des adversaires plus challengers si je peux dire.
Il ressort par contre quelque chose de très important dans ce tome. La place primordiale de notre capitaine Daichi. C’est un excellent joueur, mais pas un prodige comme nos deux héros. Il n’empêche que sa façon d’appréhender le jeu mais surtout les actions de ses coéquipiers est assez incroyable. Tout au long de ce match, on voit combien son rôle est important. Recentrer le jeu, rebooster le moral des troupes, anticiper les stratégies de l’adversaire, tirer le meilleur parti de tout le monde. Cette partie tactique ressort énormément dans ce tome, et j’ai trouvé que c’était une excellente chose.
Tout n’est pas une histoire de prouesse physique. On le voit d’ailleurs avec plusieurs adversaires. Etre bon dans un sport ne fait pas tout. Il faut aussi appréhender le jeu, le comprendre. L’équipe adverse est un électron libre à bien des niveaux. Ils sont bons, mais leur force et aussi leur faiblesse. Parce qu’ils n’ont pas vraiment cette cohésion mais aussi un leader « omniscient ».
Le second match met d’autant plus en avant cet aspect du sport car le capitaine de Wakutani Minami est de la même trempe de Daichi. On est à jeu égal à ce niveau-là. Et la fin de ce tome de Haikyū laisse dans l’expectative. Je ne suis pas trop fan de l’événement, même s’il montre la réalité du terrain et que la suite sera très intéressante… mais j’ai aussi l’impression d’avoir eu comme un lever de rideau. On a montré ce que pouvait donner le capitaine, donc maintenant on passe à autre chose. Je comprends le challenge qui va s’en suivre surtout du point de vue psychologique, partie extrêmement importante dans un match, j’ai même hâte. Cependant, je n’aime pas que l’on touche à mes chouchous…
J’ai cependant entièrement confiance en Haruichi Furudate. Il s’est montré tellement bienveillant dans son histoire et juste que je ne me vois pas ne pas aimer la suite. Et puis, le fait qu’il réussisse à faire tellement aimer ses personnages, au point que je sois agacée, je me dis qu’il a tout de même déjà fait un excellent travail ! XD

The Qualifier Tournament has officially begun. Karasuna is facing their first opponent, Johzenji, is a “party” team. Their whacky style and off-the-cuff plays throw Karasuno for a loop.
The scene between Oikawa, Iwazumi, Ushijima, and Hinata alone makes this volume amazing. I don’t know what it is about the humour of this series but it’s so good and gets me every time. This is a huge ensemble cast and Furudate infuses so much personality into everyone, even minor side-characters.
I don’t particularly care about Johzenji or its players, but again, Furudate’s ability to infuse so much personality into his side characters in such a short amount of time is commendable. They’re a memorable team, especially their captain, even though they’re only around for this one match.
I think the Wakutani game is my least favourite of the qualifier tournament, but I appreciate Furudate’s efforts to make the series as realistic as possible. Karasuno needs to beat a buttload of teams to get where they need to go.
The ending with Daichi is a little… over-dramatic, haha.

I don’t think I’ll ever have enough words to express how much I love this manga and anime series but I’ll try anyway. But I just need to make it known that this has changed my view in anime and manga forever. I caught up with this manga in the last 30 or so chapters but I won’t say much to avoid spoilers... but it was crazy.
It made me laugh, cry, fall in love, think, and honestly... what else do you need in a series? I can keep going on and on about this series but honestly I think you should just read it for yourself. I really don't think you'll regret it.
When someone asks me what the plot is, honestly, all I can say is “they play volleyball” HAHAHA… but it’s so much more than that.
PLOT: ★★★★★
The plot was so well thought of from the very beginning and when I re-read the manga I can’t believe the amount of foreshadowing Furudate actually placed. My mind was so blown… I just. No words. I am seriously in love.
ART STYLE: ★★★★★
The art style… *chef’s kiss* especially in the later arcs. There were so many matches but even then Furudate never failed to leave me breathless at each one.
CHARACTERS: ★★★★★
The character development here is THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. that I have ever come across. I fell in love with the so many characters in this series that I did not even think that was possible.
The character relationships... the character dynamics... their mindsets... they are all so perfectly well done and realistic GAHHHH I've said this so many time throughout this review BUT THEY JUST MADE ME FALL IN LOVE SO EASILY. I can't pick my favourite one but hinata and kageyama just hold a special place in my heart.
This connects to the themes but my favourite thing that was done with the characters here was that each one of them embodied a theme or a message that the author wanted to get across. Those are spoilers so I won’t really talk about it but just know that it was one of the main reasons that made me go so crazy about this series.

Honestly I basically thought the themes were just gonna be “teamwork” and “friendship”… while it is all that, Furudate sensei was able to make it even deeper.
I think the one that was focused on the most was “It’s not always about winning, it’s about growth”. But there were also so many smaller things that lead up to that bigger point: (1) we get our strength from others, (2) but you also need to make yourself dependable, (3) there is always room for improvement, (4) working hard is good but overworking yourself isn’t, (5) you are built on the small things you do everyday, (6) an ace's back should be an inspiration to your teammates (hi bokuto), (7)+++
The way I wrote it was very straight to the point but I was amazed at how Furudate tackled the so many messages that I received from this series.
PACING: ★★★★★

Time for the tournament to begin! First up is Karasuno vs. Johzenji.
I gotta say, this volume really made me think about the individual personalities of every character. I also almost cried because I saw the tournament bracket and realized that one of the rematches I wanted to see weren't going to happen. (I'm not telling you which one. Figure it out on your own.)
But that ending though...NOT GOOD!!! BAD THINGS HAPPEN!!! I NEED THE NEXT VOLUME!!!
This series has 45 volumes.
