Marcus Holloway, 4th Duke of Lethan, has been in love with Cora Markham for longer than he cares to remember. Cora is a young woman of intelligence and ambition but she doesn’t want to end up as a brood mare for an aristocrat. One evening at a ball, as Marcus watches Cora dance with every man but him he realises desperate measures are called for. Posing as a highwayman he intercepts Cora’s carriage on the way home and, promising to return her to her father’s home before morning, he abducts her. By morning, Cora’s heart has been won over and she begs the highwayman to take her away with him, but keeping his word as a gentleman he returns her to her father’s home and with regret, he leaves her on the doorstep just as dawn is breaking. Will Cora ever see her mysterious abductor again?
