Mythic Worlds and the One You Can Believe In

Rate this book
Combining philosophy, science, and literature, Mythic Worlds and the One You Can Believe In examines lingering misconceptions of world history as a continuing source of international tension. Awareness of the natural continuum, currently gauged at some 13.8 billion years overall, disarms sectarian zealotry and, in retrospect, explains some of the difficulties the literary and philosophical traditions have had in accommodating their beliefs to what undeniably exists. To this day, beliefs incompatible with natural history continue to intensify nationalism and support terrorist movements. As a work mainly in natural philosophy, this book uses the consensus natural continuum to critique the more prominent and durable misconceptions.

A complex read ideal for university students and lectures, research students. Due to the disorganized nature in the narrative it was difficult to comprehend its concepts. It was a painful reading experience that made me puch myself to complete this read.

Something’s in this world are incomprehensible to a mind that does not think outside the box. That box that has only information based on what society says. A society that does not want to face thinking people, but people full of prejudices, without dreams and hopes. Nevertheless, the people themselves in their attempt to understand what is happening around them and to discover the essence that at the moment they simply exist, they create myths, stories. Unnatural stories. Excessive stories, with monsters, dragons and fantasy worlds, things that to the humans seen unlikely. But they never thought that only we exist as people who can speak, write, read and most of all think, it seems incredible in itself. Harold Toliver on the other hand does not talk about fictional stories that people invent but about "lies". Good lies and bad lies.

Harold Toliver in his book "Mythic Worlds and the One You Can Believe In" details what he exactly means by myths. He gave some examples from various areas where there are several myths, such as religion and politics. We all know that these two branches are the tools to controls the crowd, to organized wars and to kill people with opposing views and beliefs, as the main examples analyzed by the author in the book were about terrorism and Nazism. I will dwell on the example of Nazism because as is well known during World War II millions of people died because they developed a great civilization, because their own point of view, but Hitler managed with his own myths to reach people who supported him until the end.

What I liked most about this book were the author's ideas and opinions. His strong views that in a strange and amazing made you start thinking from another angle, as if telling his own true myth to readers. Another strong point of the book was the flashback to historical events that some of the readers may have found too much but the way the author connects them it was amazing. However, something I did not like was the author's analysis of religion. The view he presents in the book on the subject of religion was somewhat exaggerated and may be the reason why some people will ignore this book.

Moreover, the language used in the book is on an advanced level in order to sound more authentic and well-versed. Although, this makes it more difficult for the readers and most of the sentences for them not even make sense, struggling to understand what the author wanted to capture in each sentence

I liked it a lot and I am glad I was given the opportunity to read a masterpiece like this. The only reason I took away a star is because religion will always be a sensitive piece to catch and analyzed in a book. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this book to people who deal with religious issues but I would definitely recommend it to student who would die to read books by people who given their own opinion

Mythic Worlds and the One You Can Believe In, the author has successfully made use of various branches of science like, philosophy, history, literature, biology, astrology etc to show how the myths, Illusions, beliefs and traditions have been influencing the course of history. In ancient times, the research and experiments by Galileo, used maths as its main core of research and established procedures and practices to prove his point.
