I am not Parisian, single or even the target demographic for this book. It came up in my Amazon 'books for you', probably based on my buying a book about Parisian Interiors, I sampled and found it an easy read with references to places and shops in Paris. I bought it as I was going on holiday and wanted something I could dip in and out of. The book is a collaboration by three Parisian women, all independent women with very good jobs. The main author, Florence Besson, is a journalist for Elle magazine. Eva Amor is a lawyer and Claire Steinlen is a journalist who has previously written a book on marriage. The stylish illustrations are by Sophie Gritto, who has worked for Dior and Jean-Paul Gaultier. This book's format is easy to read. There are lots of chapters but they are quite short, at one point I wondered if I was reading a collection of blogs. The style of writing is light, amusing and the advice is pretty sound, although when reading about second-homes (inherited or not!) I felt a social divide open between me and the author, she appeared to think everyone had one I can't think of anyone I know that does. Scattered through the relationship advice are references to French songs, movies and celebrities along with Parisian shops, places to eat, places to visit and even places to go with young children.
Didn’t like the writing style, didn’t like the tips. The illustrations were pretty though. At least I didn’t pay for it (was part of a competition prize)
This was a quick and interesting read but I don't think it taught me too much that I didn't already know. I also don't agree with everything so there's also that piece of it.
There were parts of this book I disagreed with and other which shared my somethings controversial opinion. Was lovely to read a book from a French perspective, even a translated one. I even got a few class French book recommendations out of it! Beautiful illustrations. Great read to enjoy in the sunshine with a glass of wine!
