1970 Plymouth Road Runner

Rate this book
Bring the 1970 Plymouth Road Runner and its defining characteristics into focus, including the 440 Six Pack and 426 Hemi powerplants, cartoon graphics, beep-beep horn, and more. The stripped-down Road Runner exemplified the essence of a purpose-built muscle brute power and stunning acceleration. A new aggressive grille and Air Grabber hood provided an audacious yet tasteful performance statement. By 1969, the muscle car war among Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler had reached a fevered pitch. Plymouth's Road Runner, Mopar's intermediate entry, led the charge. For 1970, the Road Runner had its strongest year yet as it housed the best street V-8s Chrysler had to offer. Underneath the skin, the Road Runner lived up to its persona. The 335-hp 383 was one of the fastest 383s Chrysler built because it was fitted with the 440 camshaft, heads, and manifolds for even more performance. The 440 Six Pack car generated 390 hp and gained a reputation as a stout street performer. And at the top, the conservatively rated 425-hp 426 Hemi set the standard for performance. The Road Runner was lighter than the Cuda and somewhat overbuilt as it was one of the toughest muscle cars. To transfer all this power to the ground, the Road Runner was equipped with the A-833 4-speed or TorqueFlite 727 automatic. With a torsion-bar suspension and heavy-duty rear end, the Road Runner handled well. However, these are just a few of the highlights of the complete story from author Scott Ross. Each volume in the In Detail Series provides an introduction and historical overview, an explanation of the design and concepts involved in creating the car, a look at marketing and promotion, an in-depth study of all hardware and available options, as well as an examination of where the car is on the market today. Also included are paint and option codes, VIN and build tag decoders, as well as production numbers.

There are few things that are certainties in life. For me, besides the death and taxes, I can say with absolute certainty that my father loved me... and he loved his 1970 Plymouth Road Runner. While I won't speculate on which of us he might have loved more, the memories of us riding around town with that Hemi engine growling and snarling like a caged animal are something I have always cherished. So, for me reading Scott Ross's book, 1970 Plymouth Road Runner in Detail from CarTech, has been a heck of a fun drive down memory lane.

Mr. Ross paints a vivid picture of the realization of a dream that turned into an American muscle car icon. His obvious love and knowledge of the Road Runner come through clearly in each page. This book is jam packed with every imaginable detail about this model including paint and option codes, production numbers, even the price for seat belts! The thing that I most love about this book are the photographs. They are gorgeous and really bring the book to life.

If you know anyone who has ever owned, wanted to own or just admires the beauty of a Road Runner as it passes by, or for that matter, anyone who truly appreciates an epic era in American history, then this is the book for them.

Another Work by CarTech designed for not only the car restorer but for anyone interested in classic muscle cars from the later part of the Twentieth Century.
As with all of the works in this series, the photos and appendixes cover every last detail that the restorer or muscle car fan could possible want to know.
Since the first Road Runner work of the series came out as No. 5, to this one No. 10, a lot of changes and now references back to the 1969 model year and some to the 1971 model year.
This work even gives tips to buyers of cars to be restored on where to look for body damage and other problems that a quick look might miss.
Each book with this series is getting better. A good collection to use when going to car shows or meets.
Priced at $18.95 a good priced work.
CarTech still produces good works at a good price.
Next time you see a Road Runner, see if you can find the Six Pack or Wylie under the hood, or the Rare Flying Tiger inspired teeth.

A fantastic book from cartech highlighting the history, design, marketing, and more of this popular and well-loved car. Written by respected Mopar author and Chrysler enthusiast Scott Ross, this book covers everything you ever wanted to know about this legendary muscle car, whether you're looking to restore one of these beauties to it's former glory, or are just looking for an eye-catching coffee table book to show off your love for this high-performance model. Packed full of interesting history and facts, fantastic color photos, and charts of specs (exterior and interior colors, prices, fender tag decoding, VIN codes, and production data), this thoroughly detailed book would make an excellent addition to any car enthusiast's library. Highly recommended!
