Michaela's life is abruptly turned upside down when her parents announced that she is to be wed to her childhood friend, Walter, on the night of her eighteenth birthday. Her dream of going to college and achieving her own goals are shattered, and the walls seem to be closing in around her as she realizes that her life's purpose will be to do nothing more than be Walter's wife and help him run the family law firm. Her love interest, Landon, doesn't understand why she can't just tell her parents no and not go through with the arranged marriage, but they don't even know that she has been dating him for the last several months. Michaela knows that even if they did know about Landon that they wouldn't approve. Landon is from the poor side of town, and in Michaela's parents' eyes, he would not be fit to marry her, but she loves him all the same. To make matters worse, her cousin, Windi, is head over heels in love with Walter. They have been in an on-again off-again relationship for years, but Windi has always believed that she and Walter were meant to one day be married. She is heartbroken when she hears of Michaela's engagement to Walter and comes up with the desperate plan to get pregnant by Walter in hopes that it will stop the wedding that none of them want to happen. Walter, on the other hand, intends to go through with the wedding out of respect to his parents despite the fact that he does not love Michaela, which only makes both Windi and Landon angry with him and frustrates Michaela to no end. As the wedding plans are put into motion, Landon becomes more and more desperate to stop it. When Michaela refuses to run away with him, he only becomes more agitated trying to think of way to stop his true love from entering into a marriage that neither she nor the groom actually wants.
My name is Mindy M. Mather, I have always enjoyed writing, ever since I was a young girl. As I got older I took a liking to Romance Novels specifically and decided that I wanted to write my own. My first novel, A Tragic Miracle, actually started out as a Sims 2 Machinima series that I made in 2008 and later decided to turn it into a book. It is one of my best stories, but I have many more that I am in the process of finishing. I hope that all of you will enjoy my books and if your interested in my sims 2 videos, they are on youtube. My youtube name is TMP200000.
This was a good read for a raining day ans a cup of coffee. I finished reading it a few hours ago and im still thinking about it. Im still wondering if it all could have been avoid...im really wondering if Doctor Phil would have been able to sort this out...like...Michaela...run away girl! Your 18! Also getting yourself pregnant to keep a man is gold for this because it just really shows the age of these characters and their thought processes. To me Mather has seen and felt these characters and she puts the on paper like an artist. Really anytime I read and book that leads me into a conversation with my teenage daughter means the book was impactful in some way...even though I would still call this an easy read, it became a good conversation piece and that made it awesome.
Never Gone is a story about Michaela celebrated her eighteenth birthday, but had an unexpected announcement connected to it. A wedding announcement with Walter who is her childhood friend yet this doesn't come with a joyful response. It has sadness but also joy. I like that Landon and Sheridan's relationship was unexpected and becomes a beautiful love story. Walter and Windi have their challenges but I like how things turned out. It has a nice conclusion. The women in this novel are young adults too. It's nice being able to see how complex college romance can be and protective the parents are. I am curious to know what the second book is about.
A funny personal note before I start: my own son’s name is Landon, so a few scenes were a little strange for me to read at first, and I definitely had to mentally separate the name from the character. With that said… This was a fabulous start to a new series. The setup is emotional and tense right from the beginning, and I felt for Michaela immediately. The heat starts early here, there is no slow burn. It has drama, heart, and just enough fire to make me want to dive to the next book immediately.
The book is full of purple prose that definitely mirrors the dramatic personalities of the teenage characters. Getting the POV for not only the FMC and her love interest, but also the other two characters trapped in this love triangle (or rather love rectangle) was unique for a love story. It will be interesting to see how Michaela grows up as a single mom in the sequel.
Never Gone by Mindy Mather explores how love often has to take a step back when life becomes filled with responsibilities. The story reflects the emotional conflicts each character goes through, their struggles, passion, and the difficult choices between holding on and letting go.
Very well written story. I kept losing track.of time id gey so into each chapter. Almost addictive, just one more kind of deal. Would recommend for sure.
