This book was like a daily devotion for writers, complete with a host of thoughtful quotes. I enjoyed this offering of inspiration both as a writer and as a teacher of composition.
I would recommend this book as a source of reflection and encouragement for writers...and will be recommending it, as a matter of fact, to students in the future.
I found the book thoughtful, relatable, and clearly organized.
This book is great for daily motivation and inspiration. The book starts in January, but of course you can just skip to the current month, or ignore the dates altogether.
I loved the daily quotes and bite-sized chunks of inspirational snippets. They can help you when you feel stuck, worried or just need to come back to center. Reading a daily snippet will only take a few minutes, so this book can easily be incorporated into your daily writing routine.
This book is a devotional style writer's guide with each "day" having a quote, a discussion/explantation/advice area, and then a daily "takeaway" comprised either of an insight, exercise, or combination of both. I found this book to be both inspiring and thoughtful, covering many of the areas writers struggle with daily. I read the book through, but spent a few weeks working on it as intended and found myself more productive. I'd recommend this book for writers at any skill level and as an "opening act" so to speak before daily writing commences. I really enjoyed this book and will be purchasing a copy for myself and several of the writers in my life.

Thank you to Netgalley and Llewellyn Publications for sharing this title with me pre-release.

If you've ever struggled to write....even to journal....this book will be a great guide! Each day you are given suggestions for concentration, for letting your mind go a little and for remaining mindful. The book also includes wonderful quotes, some of which are certain to find their way into your writing or simply into your life. One of my favorites comes early on: "Sometimes a change of perspective is all it takes to see the light." - Dan Brown A wonderful daily reminder not to chain ourselves to our desks in the hopes that inspiration will strike us! A great gift for writers of all kinds.
This nifty little book of short (one page) daily readings takes a writer on a 365 day journey. I found each entry to contain a snippet of wisdom or a slice of advice to treasure and take with me through my day. I am a writer of both fiction and spiritual/personal growth nonfiction and many of the short essays resonated with me and more importantly, inspired me to continue writing even when my "inner chorus" starts to convince me otherwise.
Writers and non-writers alike can benefit from this beautiful calendar of exercises and meditations from Bryan E. Robinson. He's seamlessly coalesced his knowledge as a leading psychotherapist and his experience as a writer and has created an easily used NY resolution cheat sheet that I look forward to doing every single day.
This book is a truly beautiful collection of meditations for writers to parse through daily. Inspiration abounds and I especially enjoyed the unique quotes from many prominent writers of the day that started off each new day's worth of reflection. A gorgeous little book perfect for gifting to any writer you know, or hoarding for yourself for quite moments of reflection.
This is a type of devotional book for writers to use monthly by day so as to get writing inspiration. And for many of us authors who search the internet for writer's quotes to get pumped up for a day or week of writing, this is a great resources. I'm also a fan of writing quotes with fountain pens and various colored fountain pen inks, so I hope to use this as a resource to write a quote in my daily penmanship practice.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I've been (sort of) reading this with the calendar year, and I finished a tad early. Some days are super helpful, others are sort of trite or a bit of a reach, but overall this is a really nice volume for writers to have.
I would like to thank Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd. for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book, via Netgalley, in exchange for an open and honest review.
Okay, so anyone who follows my other reviewer platforms (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) will have noticed that I am also a writer and have had three books published. And so was drawn to ‘Daily Writing Resilience’ as I am often hitting that wall of “I don’t wanna” when I am writing. So I was seeking advice, inspiration, and possibly even a virtual kick up the bum to get me to work on my ANY of my current WIP (Works in Progress).
And… it worked! And I kept telling myself: “I need this book as a perpetual desk calendar!” as the biggest bug bear I had about it was reading it all in one day… When it was the perfect nudge forward for, well, every day. So a book that lived up to its title – go figure. ;-)
I am nowhere in the league of Mr Robinson’s when it comes to actual writing achievements but I still felt a connection. That struggling author’s zone we writers of all skillsets hit from time to time. Whether it be when I was writing technical documents for a paid job, blogging for myself, writing a book, freelancing or even being here reviewing… There is a wall we sometimes hit and struggle that takes place where the doubt of our worth as a writer clashes with our constant desire to write. As I keep telling people – I write because I breathe. Both are as equally important to me. And so I found ‘Daily Writing Resilience’ almost like a lifeline. A “hey, it’s not just you.” moment showing that even well-known authors suffer the same problems and sometimes also need that same virtual kick up the bum to keep them going. To keep them realising this is what they should be doing as writing is life.
Or maybe I am just being a bit of a hippy about it all. ;-)
All the same I found comfort, encouragement, hope and gratitude within this book and… yes I really want it as a desk calendar! Or maybe even a computer screen saver that pops up with its daily comments every time I go to play solitaire rather than write my daily 5,000 words!
The layout would work as a calendar too – just saying.
Would I recommend this book to others?
Yes I would. Writers, authors, even artists would find this daily bit of advice of use. It truly is a “hang in there, you’ve got this” sort of book where “this” may change for each of us… but it acknowledges it does indeed exist and we should keep going.
So, yes, if writing is as important to you as breathing, eating, etc… I would recommend this book to you. Think of it as a daily bit of Writer’s Mindfulness.
Uh-oh, I am going hippy again!
Would I buy this book for myself?
Yes I would…. I’d prefer it as a desk calendar – pretty sure I’ve said this already – but in paperback form it would be just as good. So that when my mind wanders and my fingers need something to fiddle with, I can grab it, read it and be inspired to get off my procrastinating backside and get back to the writing.
In summary: A book of inspiration to writers of all skill sets. I highly recommend.
Daily Writing Resilience 365 Meditations & Inspirations for Writers by Bryan Robinson Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd.
Llewellyn Publications Health, Mind & Body , Nonfiction (Adult) Pub Date 08 Jan 2018
I am reviewing a copy of Daily Writing Resilience through Llewelyn Publications and Netgalley:
In this book we are reminded that even the most experienced writers have experienced rejections, setback and even heartbreak we've poured our hearts into our writing only to be told it's not good enough.
In this book we are given the inspiration we need that shows writers how to be resilient. We are reminded that once we stop trying to write for approval and instead search for our own voices instead.
This book reminds us that Authors must learn to accept that there is uncertainty in this business, it's not guaranteed that everyone will like our book, that we will even sale our book, but if we give up before we begin then we truly do loose hope!
I give Daily Writing Resilience five out of five stars!
I received a complimentary ARC copy of Daily Writing Resilience ~ 365 Meditations & Inspirations for Writers from NetGalley & Llewellyn Publications in order to read and give an honest review.
I loved this book and found it to be incredibly motivational. Bryan Robinson's inspirational book is a daily devotional for writers. Daily Writing Resilience offers a writer 365 days of prompts and advice, sure to help get their creativity flowing. The book is dated containing daily quotes, valuable snippets of wisdom and what the author calls "Today's Takeaway" which are tips to help any writer be the best they can be. It doesn't matter if you are a seasoned writer, battling writer's block or just starting to get your feet wet, I would definitely recommend Daily Writing Resilience to anyone looking for motivation.
This book is perfect for any type of writers or, in my opinion, any type of creative personality. I love the daily routine of quotes, theme of the day's intention, and the closing takeaway. This book is the boost many of us need when faced with rejection and processing criticism in order to restore confidence and keep trudging through to find personal success. Highly recommended!
Daily Writing Resilience provides some thoughts and writing personal goals for every day of the year. It's a perfect companion to anyone who is trying to write a book or just want daily inspiration as a writer.
*This book was given to me by the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review – all opinions are my own.*
I really enjoyed this book. There is a page per day telling little stories or tips, then at the bottom is Today's Takeaway. This is a great book to keep you motivated & focusing on the positive aspects of writing every day!
I gave the book to my sister when I won it as she is a budding writer According to her she faithfully reads the daily meditations before she starts writing and finds them most helpful Says they "quiet her mind"
This is a great book for inspiration, for staying on track, and for just plain encouragement. Robinson does a great job with the quotes and with the daily thoughts. I keep it close for early-morning reads.
Easy to swallow bites of advice that I start my every day with, pertinent observations and advice I can relate to. One big error in the title though: it really has 366 days of meditations and inspiration. ;-)
Started on Jan 1 2019 and reading one page a day. The book is 365 daily meditations on writing. I'm using one each morning to support my craft and practice.
Great book for someone with a writer in your life. I found the book to be both thought provoking and inspiring. I would recommend this book for any writers, regardless of skill. .the book is structured to have a daily devotional or motivational read. Loved the structure and loved the book, will be purchasing a copy once it is published.
I received a copy from #NetGalley and Llewelyn Worldwide for my honest reviews.
An inspirational book every writer should have! If you're looking for a gift idea for a friend who loves to write, check out the latest by Bryan Robinson. His book has inspirational prompts arranged by month that can be used to spark daily writing ideas. This book is appropriate for anyone who expresses themselves with words, from your sporadic journaler to acclaimed author.
Great book to read if you're in the middle of a writer's slump! I know many friends who will receive a copy of this in the coming year.
Daily Writing Resilience by Bryan Robinson is a collection of 365 meditations on the writing life. These short passages are quite short but still meaningful and worth reading on a daily basis. Each one starts with a quote by an author or famous person and discusses a topic related to the writing life. What I love most is that overall the meditations are very encouraging and they are perfect for encouraging a writer to plod on in any situation. I will be returning to this book often. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher for review purposes. These opinions are entirely my own.
This is a book which takes a more holistic approach to writing and looks at not just how to improve your wirting skills but also build up your resilience to deal with the challenges that writing can throw up such as rejection or writers block. This is the perfect present for someone who really wants to focus on their writing craft and has time every day to devote to it.
