A guide to the Halo universe, written in collaboration with the developers, 343 Studios. It incorporates the entirety of the Halo canon, including the games, books and comics, film and television.
This is an interesting book - so first you take a highly successful and innovative computer game series and then create a book which charts the history and major events that relate to or are referred to throughout the franchise.
Now normally this would scream of flagrant exploitation of the original fanbase - however because the story being told and the supporting material so rich you actually feel its more like a glimpse in to a massive science fiction epic where there is still so much more to discover.
And that is where this book succeeds - the artwork is of the same style and format - unlike some other books which try and utilise production materials all the artwork has the same look and feel and to me not only gives a sense of continuity but also the fact who ever put this project together actually believed in it and wanted to create a unique piece of work that could stand up on its own and yet tell the story only hinted at in the games.
Now for a true fan of the franchise I am sure there is very little that is new - however the fact it has all been collected and packaged together is something special. So if you ever wanted to view HALO as more than a series of first person shooters and more of an immersive science fiction saga this book is for you.
