"Am I going to die?"
"Yes, but it won't hurt....much."

This is the second book of Marcus Brown's I've read, and I am hooked for life! I could not put this down. I should have been working, but I kept getting pulled back to my Kindle by some unseen force. Love this series!

Cast out of Olympus by her mother, Empusa and is cursed to live within the mortal realm, but only in the darkness. Her life sustenance to come from the flesh and blood of man. Only trying to help Empusa leave, Kane finds himself cast out under the same curse.

Fast forward to present day, and we find Chloe. For years she has spoken of a mysterious boy, Kyle who appears to her. Of course no one believes her. They never believe her.

But there are strange things going on in her town and somehow all of it seems connected to Kyle, who once again is appearing to only her, warning her that she is in danger.

Gypsies, Kyle, the strange seer, the return of Kane, and gruesome murders all point to Chloe at the center somehow. But how? Why is this happening now? What is this connection she has to Kyle? And who is the "she" that the old oracle warns her about?

I can't wait to dig in to Part 2!!

Another genre that I normally don't read, but I loved Promised Land Lane so much I thought I'd give it a go. The novella read very much like an episode of a television series and left me gagging to know what comes next - I can only hope Mr Brown is quick to get the next 'episode' finished. A well deserved 5 stars from me.

I loved Marcus Brown's first book, Promised Land Lane, so I got his new book. I loved Promised Land Lane so much, even though I read horror only occasionally, that I was expecting this would be a horror vampire story. But it really is not as horrifying as I was expecting. It's more emotional, suspenseful and full of mystery. Unlike his first book this one doesn't have any scenes of violence or death, which I think makes it suitable for young readers as well. In spite of the lack of graphic imagery, it's still an exciting book. There's a lot of suspense. Chloë is in danger, someone is following her around, but we don't know who it is. We only know that whoever it is, they don't exactly have nice intentions for her. Not only that, her innocent best friend gets dragged in too. I wanted to see those 2 feisty girls be safe and sock it to all the mysterious baddies, whoever they are, and for Chloë to find a way to be happy with her enigmatic love, Kyle. But unfortunately it wasn't to be. We won't find out what happens to them until the next book, because this novella is the first part of an episodic serial. I liked both Chloë and her best friend and I wanted to find out more about them as people. I didn't get to know Kyle as well, as he didn't show up as much in the book. But I'm curious to find out what is the relationship between them, why they keep getting pulled together by mysterious forces and also what will happen to them when they can finally be together. Can't wait for the next episode!

I loved Marcus Brown's "Promised Land Lane" AND The Crockworthy Sisters - Part 1", so of course I had to read this book as well. Normally, I'm a mostly horror/paranormal or psychological thriller fan, however, "The Crockworthy Sisters" taught me that I should at least TRY other genres. I am SO glad I did!! "Second Self" was extremely fascinating to me. I felt like I've known the characters my whole life! Very well written, Marcus Brown takes the reader to the place where the characters are! It's like I was right there with them no matter what part of the book I was reading!! I love when a book (author really) can do that. I love how Marcus gives his characters depth, emotions, personality. Marcus proved once more why he is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE author! I definitely recommend this book to everyone! To the readers that normally only read a certain genre/genres, I would suggest u give this book a try, I promise u won't regret it!! Thanks Marcus for another FABULOUS read! I will certainly be reading EVERYTHING of yours!!!

This was the first time I've read a book by Marcus Brown and what I can say is that it was absolutely an amazing read. I like that it took us on a roller coaster ridden trying to figure who was who and what was what. Chloe and Kyle in my opinion are the two people from the beginning and are trying to find there way back to each other. This is going to be an excellent series and I can't wait to read book 2. I am recommending this book for people who love paranormal. I give it 5 stars. I voluntarily reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy ( ARC ).

Hecate is goddess of witches. She was upset with her daughter, Empusa, and sent her to live amongst the mortals in a darkness realm.
Chloe, Empusa's daughter has a guardian angel watching out for her.
Kyle has dreamt of a girl all his life and he has finally found her. There is a family secret that he isn't aware of. Will it cost him his life?
There is evil lurking in the shadows that is trying to get to someone? Is it Chloe? Or is it Kyle?
I've been a fan of Marcus Brown since The Promised Land. An exceptional book.
Can't wait for next installment, The Truth.
There is a cliffy.

Already a fan of Marcus Brown's work, I knew that I had to read Second Self, especially as I'm a fan of this genre, I have only one bone to pick... I have to wait for the next instalment!
His down to earth writing style had me hooked from the beginning, diving straight into the story, it slowed down for the next couple of chapters but then peaked my interest again all the way to the cliffhanging ending.
Will definitely be reading the next part of this series.

I loved Marcus Browns 1st book, Promised Land Lane, so was looking forward to his next book. This one is part 1 of a series, wasn't too sure if it would be my type of read, but I was drawn in as soon as I started reading, his characters are so realistic and you really care about them, (not all of them, some are not nice) and the book ended on a thrilling cliff hanger, left you shouting out for more, and I couldn't wait to download Part 2. Well done again Mr. Brown.

This story seems to have a little bit of everything: gypsy's, gods, vampires. I love the friendship between Chloe and Bethany. Amazing character development as I now have to know what has happened to each of them. And once again the signature Marcus Brown cliffhanger. Good thing "The Truth" is available now. Loved this book and would recommend to anyone.

Not my normal go to genre but after being taken from my comfort zone while reading Marcus's debut novel Promised Land Lane, I just had to pick up Second Self and give it a go - boy am I glad I did.

Follow Chloe Beck's story, as she tries to figure out who the mysterious boy is, the one that she has seen since she was a little girl. She has seen his face so many times, sometimes in her own reflection.

Whenever she is in danger, he's there - like a Guardian Angel - but is he really there to protect her?

Just when you think you're about to find out a key piece to the puzzle, you get swung in a different direction.

With so many different characters, you would think it would be hard to keep track of everything that's going on but it's not. This novella is so easy to read, the words just flow.

It's mysterious, twisty and definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I can't wait to continue reading this story in the second part of The Nightwalker Mysteries.
