If Chevy Chase had played Indiana Jones, he would be Penn Wallace. Penn has a thirst for adventure, but nothing ever seems to go exactly as planned.
In the spring of 2010 he lost the love of his life, his wife Connie, to Ovarian cancer. Ten years of living with cancer changed Penn's priorities. He learned that you can't live for tomorrow. You must live your dreams today, you never know if tomorrow will come.
He left his career as a software engineer in the summer of 2012 and set sail for the warm blue waters of Baja California in his 56-foot sailboat, the Victory. You may read an account of this adventure on his blog at www.pennwallace.com.
He currently lives on the Victory in La Paz, Mexico, but you never know where he will drop anchor next.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written PI thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great PI thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. What a great story! Actually it was two stories. Dealing with the Mexican Drug Cartels and the rape/murders in Chinatown. A young Mexican's life hangs in the balance because he is being unjustly accused of murdering two young Mexican men who were allegedly part of a gang. A grainy videotape and testimony from other alleged gang members are the supposed evidence. Meanwhile several undocumented Chinese women have disappeared from Chinatown, the main problem being that none of the people in Chinatown will talk to police or any round eyes. Catrina Flaherty has her hands full trying to get info from anyone involved in these escalating incidents.Upon further investigation, it appears that several girls have been raped and then several disappeared. Ted Higuera is handling the Mexican incident without Catrina because they decide the case has a better chance with a Latina as 2nd chair. As Catrina interviews persons of interest in the case she seems no closer to catching the killer as more girls and bodies pile up. Catrina finally gets a vibe after a woman who was almost a victim but escaped describes the would-be killer. She has in investigator check out a current friend/lover and doesn't like what she finds. The ending was a surprise in several ways. I can't wait for the next book
I was given a free copy of this book with no expectation of remuneration on my part and no expectation of a positive review by the author. I found Penn Wallace’s The Chinatown Murders to be a well-written novel. I wish I could have given this book 4 ½ stars, since that is what it truly deserves. For me, it is important for a book in a series to also be a solid stand-alone book, which this is. The characters are true to themselves and to the story, with a gritty realism that transcends the pages. You really begin to care about the characters as they develop throughout the book. The dialogue is crisp and realistic, without sounding contrived or being forced to make the story flow. The plotline, which was based on a true story, reads like there is a real-life feel to it. Though there are many positives to this book, the biggest weakness was that I knew who the antagonist was far too early. It did not have the plot twists and turns that would have turned it from a good novel into a truly great novel.
Catrina Flaherty looks good for a woman her age, heck she looks good for any age. She's a private detective and is in business with Ted Higuera (works the technical side of the business ). Ted's brother Carlito has been charged with first degree murder. So Ted is pretty much out of the office right now. Catrina, Cat as everyone calls her is asked to investigate a series of rapes and now murder in China Town. The police and Sgt. Tom Bremen (assigned to the case) are at a loss in locating even the name of the murder. victim. Can Cat and Tom work together to solve this case? That's a good question.
This is my first Pendelton Wallace book and i absolutely loved it. There are so many layers to the story, and so much going on at the same time that there is no way that one can even think of taking a break. I liked Catrina's attitude, her way of solving things, going around the law, and specially her compassionate nature. The politics and court scene are very interesting, as is Cat's tenacity in trying to solve the rapes and murders in Chinatown, and the ending is a definite winner. An absolute must read!!
Wallace is an author that takes some getting used to. The story flows in real time as he shifts from one character to another in the action. Several subplots keep the reader engrossed and provide an element of additional suspense. The characterizations are detailed and quite good. The reader understands and knows the players. The murders are being committed by a psychopath who is clearly one of the characters in the action. The problem for the reader is to figure out who it is. Sex and violence are in good supply as the plot unfolds. Definitely a good story.
This is my first novel by Pendelton Wallace and he did not disappoint. The characters were harsh, gritty and complex. The storyline progressed in a fast continuous roll, which was easy to follow but didn't give you an opportunity to stop reading.
Not having read books 1 and 2 in this series, I don't feel that I was missing anything. This can be read as a standalone novel and enjoyed fully.
I received an ARC of The Chinatown Murders and this is my honest review.
I have not read anything from this author before now. I was given this book for an honest review. I had a little trouble at first keeping the characters straight but once I got into it it is a good book. Had me guessing until the end who the murderer was. I plan on reading moe from this author.
I loved this book. I hadn't read anything from this author, but the book looked interesting. I found the characters were well rounded and believable. I liked Cat who was an intriguing person. There were lots of action and clues to follow, as well as a carefully crafted plot.
The book follows a well thought out plot. There isn't really much I could say that I found wrong about the book. He writes a well thought out plot and doesn't wander into the inconceivable. I found the story held my interest and plan on reading some of his other stories.
This is the 2nd Catrina Flaherty Book I've read, and both are excellent, not only because they have crossover characters, but also, they have interesting stories behind them. Please read this for yourself, see what you think, and leave a review. Mr. Wallace will appreciate it, for sure, as well as the many prospective readers reading reviews first. ☺
Wow....never had I ever thought "The Man" was connected to Cat! It broke her. Not financially but mentally. I hope we get to read more of Ted and Cat doing see something together again! Maybe rescuing a red headed baby boy! Hint hint!!!! Lol! Read the series! You won't regret it!
Catrina is an amazing PI. She's one tough lady, love her. If anyone, she'll get the job done. Received an ARC and reviewing because the book is fantastic
This is the first book that I've read by this author. He's very good at giving you the feeling that you are there. Great book. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book
I really enjoyed this book as well as the other two I read. This is my kind of books. Just keep writing & we will keep reading. Waiting for the next one.
The Chinatown Murders is an Exhilarating Thrill Ride of a read !!! The story and characters (both good and evil) are strong, fierce and complex. Some may find it hard to read but those that do won't be able to put down this page turning storyline of shock and ahh...This is book 3 in Pendleton C. Wallace's Catrina Flaherty series. The book is based on a true story and the main character, Cat, is based on a real person. It also shares the main characters of his Ted Higuera sries. After finishing this book you will rush to read PCW's other books, if not already read. I received this book as an ARC. It was my first PCW book. Though I am leaving this review voluntarily, I became consumed in reading his other books before I remembered to do so. READY FOR MORE Pendelton C. Wallace !!!
