Losing Time

Rate this book

Nicola Claire's captivating new time travel romance series introduces an exciting and adventurous world, set in multiple times and multiple places, packed full of sizzling action and heart-racing escapades, where time once lost can never be found again.

“That is what we do, Miss Wylde. We mend Time. Catch it. Stitch it. Make it. We’re Surgeons of Time. And you’re about to go where no layperson has ever gone before. So trust me, when I say I am responsible for you. And believe me, when I say your presence alone could fracture or restore Time.”

Mourning the loss of her parents, Mimi Wylde embarks on a holiday of a lifetime with her twin sister. But when breaking the rules ends up shattering her understanding of the world around her, Mimi has to draw on more courage than her nickname, Mouse, would attest to. Losing everything she holds dear and challenging all that she believes to be true, Mimi faces up to a future that is tangled in a past too frightening to comprehend.

At the Royal Academy of Time Surgeons, things happen for a reason, even in their dreams. There are consequences to surfing time waves. So when Dr Jack Evans inadvertently picks up a woman from the past, he knows immediately that Time has been tampered with. It doesn’t help that he’s been dreaming of the girl even before she arrives, and when she does, she proves to be everything he'd hoped for.

Time changes in the blink of an eye, and as Mimi and Jack chase down history, trying desperately to stop catastrophic oncoming events, they both start realising that dreams are always meant come true. Even the nightmares.

Losing Time begins when Mimi (Mouse) and her sister Carrie go to America to visit NASA. That is Mimi's dream, and since her parents are gone her sister wants to make it happen for her.
But, this all changes when something happens with time, and now Mimi is "out of time."

She ends up meeting Jack and his associates, and things get more crazy for Mimi.

This book was really good. It was funny, sad, and had a love story as well. I loved Mimi and her nickname as well. She was a really awesome character, and I can't wait to read more about her. I'm looking forward to more in this series, and this was a good start to the series. Now, I will say some of the talk of time was a bit confusing to me, but it was explained so that helped a lot. Other than that I enjoyed the heck out of this book!

4.5 Stars!!!! Wow, what a wonderful journey into the creative world that author Nicola Claire has introduced us to in her new Lost Time book series. Book One was a wild ride with identical twins Mimi and Carrie and their epic journey to America. While checking out the NASA station, the twins manage to disappear suddenly and weirdly enough, individually. Mimi winds up traveling through time and dimension. Along the way, Mimi who is affectionately nicknamed "Mouse" by her twin, meets the man she had just dreamed about. Imagine having a sexy hot dream about some fictional man only to wind up meeting that same man in person. I am pretty sure my cheeks are blushing!!! The heat is turned up once Mimi realizes that the man of her dreams, Dr Jack Evans, a time Surgeon has had the same intense dreams about her! Steamy!!!!

Before you go and think the whole book is about sex, there is a lot more going on to keep you actively engaged in this sci-fi novel. Mimi's journey is not just about traveling to a different time...it is about the concepts of time itself. Surgeons, like Mimi's Jack repair and mend time, shift it so that balance is restored... yet time is more fragile than Mimi is aware of. Indeed, she can stay too long and mess up time just by staying out of her own time for too long and learning too much.
I found the theories fascinating!! They were presented at a comfortable level- deep enough to sound realistic, but not so scientific that I was lost in a heartbeat.

I also really enjoyed reading about Mimi's journey to find and rescue her sister, Carrie. Their bonds and connections intrigue me, and my heart hurts for Mimi as she searches for her sister. (I hope that one of the next books in the series goes into Carrie's story as I have a feeling her perspective will also be fascinating. My favorite parts are honestly the characters...most of them have complexities that show they have their own stories that need to be told... I am hoping these stories continue in the next books!

My only suggestions for the author are to go through it again with an eye for detail and make sure the editing is cleaned up.

This is the first book in Nicola Claire's new Lost Time series, and my first ever time travel book - it is not a genre that has ever really appealed to me, but anything this author writes in amazing so I had to read it.

I loved everything about this book, from start to finish. Nicola Claire once again drew me in with her flawless attention to detail and fantastic world building. Mimi and Jack were a really likeable characters and it was great seeing how Mimi dealt with being out of time. I cannot wait to see what is next for these two and I'm really looking forward to finding out where Nicola Claire is going to take this series.

I received an ARC of Losing Time from the author in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 Stars! Time travel has never looked so good! Losing Time is the first book in the all new series, Lost Time. The possibilities are endless in this Sci-Fi romance, as we follow Mimi and Jack on thrill ride through time and space.

Summary:
Urged and escorted by her twin sister, Mimi Wylde is on her dream vacation in hopes of turning her mind and heart from the loss of their parents. When her much more adventurous and spontaneous sister breaks the rules in order to help her realize her dreams, Mimi’s understanding of Science and it’s capabilities are forever fractured. In the blink of an eye, Mimi loses the one person keeping her tethered and gains knowledge of a world much more complex than she could ever imagine. Thrust upon Dr. Jack Evans and his time-traveling team, Mimi must pull up her courage to face a new kind of future that’s embroiled in the past. Jack’s job is to mend time. Stitch it. Fix it. The Royal Academy of Time Surgeons understand that there are consequences to surfing through time. Accidentally picking up a woman from the past has the potential to wreak havoc on both the past and future, so Jack must do what he can to mend what he has helped tear. Unfortunately, Jack’s resolve to return Mimi to her own time slowly crumbles when he realizes she’s the woman from his dreams. But time is running out as an old adversary hops through time, forcing their hand to his own end with Mimi’s sister is caught somewhere in the middle. Can Jack and Mimi realize their dreams before they become nightmares?

Of course, I was nervous to start this book for two reasons. One, it’s a brand new series and I have very high expectations for my number one authors. And two, Science Fiction is not a genre I read a lot of, so I was worried it wouldn’t hold my attention. Almost immediately after starting the book, my worries flew out of mind, forced out by the heart-thumping possibilities of time travel and the awesome Star Trek vibe I got. I adored Mimi. Although we meet her not long after her heart has been broken and she still grieves, she’s a very compelling character. Her intelligence is apparent, and despite her nickname of Mouse, she’s feisty when she needs to be. As someone who asks a lot of questions, Mimi’s tendency to question everything gave me a connection to her, too. Now Jack. He swept me clean off my feet. He’s highly intelligent, fit, strong, and protective. He was also very secretive. Most of this was due to his job, but it was still very frustrating. I don’t feel like we got to know as much about Jack as we did Mimi, but we have two more books to learn more. I loved Mimi and Jack together. Although their relationship has an element of it being destiny that throws them together, it is a gradual build-up between them. Strong feelings are felt, but it never felt rushed or too instant. The time travel component was often-times confusing and very complicated for me, especially at the beginning. With so many rules, the fragility of time, and it’s many consequences when tampered with, it could get quite murky when trying to work it through in my mind. That said, everything is explained more than once, and I felt like I got a better handle on it as the story progressed. It actually felt like I was learning right alongside Mimi. Supporting cast was good, too. Of course I have my favorites, and my not-so-favorites. Lol. I also have one or two I’m wary of, not quite trusting them fully.Everyone, though, was fun to read, and had something to bring to the story. Overall, it was a story I didn’t want to put down. The romance was sweet with a hint of steam, the banter between characters was engaging and entertaining, the story was creative and fresh, and the plot twist blew me away, and has me impatient for more. Nicola’s books always draw me in, and it’s not just due to the romance. I love that her books have an element of true history backing it up. While reading, I found myself looking up different things, and the amount of history (about NASA) was fantastic. Not only does it whet my appetite for the past, but it provides a solid foundation for the story to build on, making it more realistic. This was a job very well done. I’m eagerly awaiting and excited for book two in the series to see where time takes us. ♡

This was a great start!

Nicola Claire builds a believable time travel story that blends the technical, theoretical aspect of time travel with the beginnings of a great, interesting story. A lot of things in the beginning are a little slow and confusing, but as the view points are in the first person, this fits well, as our characters are a little confused themselves. Like a flower, the story slowly begins to unfurl and we see how Mimi and Jack are linked and their courses have seemingly been predestined on a crash course towards each other. The time travel and reason for the travel is a little hazy at this point, but we know Jack's group fixes rips in time caused by other time travelers? Although I suppose why else would someone (evil) time travel unless it were for some sort of personal gain? The story becomes very complicated with other characters and their nemesis in a very interesting way - I don't want to spoil the whole story, but I will say this is a very G rated story at this point and I like that the author has taken the time with their relationship, which makes it very believable, especially considering the story takes place over less than a week.

The inter-dimensional as well as time travel makes things a little complicated, but the banter between all the characters are fun and well written. Overall, a well written, thought provoking story.

My only negative is that it is a series and I would prefer to have a nice tidy ending at the end, but this is relatively minor as now I want to know what happens next! But this is a full length novel and it's not a cliff hanger type ending...more of a what's next to the story, which is acceptable to me.

I received an advanced copy. All opinions are my own. I am a very harsh critic and instead of leaving negative reviews for prior received ARCs (by other authors) have initiated correspondences with the author directly.

What seems to be the start of another enjoyable series from Nicola Claire. What is it about New Zealand? It seems to produce really good romance authors. It must be the inspiring scenery!
This opening story follows the first meeting of Jack and Mimi although we know they have already been intimate in their dreams. What's great is there is no big kerfuffle and bluster at the start; you are straight into the story and engaged immediately.
Some of the time travel explanation is a little complex and you sort of just have to buy into what you are being told because like most good time travel, unless you're a scientist, you're probably not going to figure out whether it's viable!
I love that Nicola never just gives you two characters to get behind with a few other uninteresting or annoying 'friends'. In this story there's a range of other people who you would like to get to know. There's Sally, Rafe, Bryan, Clive etc etc - it will be good to discover Sergei's motivations beyond destroying the competition and find out what is Harding and Pratt's problem! Love the conker scene.
Jack has a great catchphrase and you just 'get' him straightaway. Would like to know more about what it actually means to 'stitch' time, sounds like a handy life skill! All in all another great opener and I can imagine a few big reveal moments in the books to come.

I enjoy reading Nicola Claire writing. I am not a big fan of time travel, however I did enjoy this book and eagerly anticipate the rest of the series.

The storyline of Jack and Mimi is going to be interesting to watch develop. The love of family and the honor of a "team".

When the book was completed, my first thought was getting book 2. Ms Claire has written a story that has left me wanting more. Nicole Claire has another winner.

I received an advanced copy for my honest opinion. This book is honestly a 5 star

So, this is a new series. Most of you know by now, I tend to go where the inspiration takes me, and man-oh-man, did I get inspired by this one! I write what feels right and Losing Time felt mighty right while I was writing it, I tell you. :)

Mimi and Jack are my new favourite couple. I had so much fun with these guys and so much fun with the world they lived in. Science-fiction has been a favourite genre of mine since I was a little girl, and time travel just adds an extra layer on top of all that fantasy. There are no limits. No time period constraints, no out-there and in-your-face adventure restrictions, no topic that can't be undertaken. It's a smorgasbord of delicious story-making morsels to pick from, and I intend to dive on in and have my fill.

Of course, there's romance. When is there not in one of my books? And I fell for Jack, big time! (Excuse the pun!) But, holy heck, has he got his hands full with Mimi. ;)

So, this is the start of a new adventure, the start of a new romance, and the start of a new series.

I hope you love it as much as I came to love Mimi and Jack. It's been a riot.

4.5 stars and an exciting start to a new series! I haven't read a lot of time travel books --in all honesty, they've never really interested me -- but this one exceeded my expectations. Jack and Mimi dream about each other before actually meeting, and when they do finally meet, the connection is obvious. Jack is a born leader and doesn't shy away from his intense feelings for Mimi. Mimi is a fantastic heroine and shows remarkable strength, openness, and intelligence as she faces the unknown. They are a great match and my new favorite couple! I do feel that we got to know Mimi a bit better than Jack, but I am excited to learn more as the series progresses.

I'm generally not the biggest sci-fi fan, but Ms. Claire does a good job of setting up this world and explaining how things work. The pacing of the story was great, and I loved learning about time and RATS along with Mimi. The NASA connection was really interesting and helped keep me engaged. I never saw that twist at the end coming, and it has left me on the edge of my seat! Eagerly awaiting the next installment!!

“Pick adventure, Mouse, she'd say. Live life, don't mourn it.”

This book is one hell of a journey!! A beautifully written, time-travelling adventure, with characters you can’t help but love.

Mimi and Jack are everything, so much build up to their relationship, I can’t wait to see where it leads. The dual POV was great, I enjoyed seeing things from both their perspectives.

You can just tell there is so so much more to come from this series…so many secrets which need to be revealed.

Definitely recommend of you are looking for an easy, enjoyable but unusual read.

Time Travel Romance

✮✮✮⭒

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book by the author. This is my honest review for which I am not being compensated in any way.

The cover has nice color but isn’t all that exciting and doesn’t really make you think of time travel. The story line is pretty good. The characters I found rather hard to get to know. The pace was fast as the people and the ship jumped from time to time, literally. And the tension was constant with no let up. Everything was urgent. Unfortunately, I found myself skimming in several places, mostly when they were at the Academy. I guess I just couldn’t slow down after all that action.

From here begins the reveal…

Mimi “Mouse” Wylde is 300 seconds older than her twin sister Carolyn “Carrie” Wylde. They both have dark blonde hair, blue eyes, and are 5’5”. They even have the same DNA since they are monozygotic twins. That means they’re from the same egg. Their parents are assumed dead. They disappeared not long ago. Literally. Mouse has a Masters Degree and is halfway through her PhD. She’s quite the scientist. So when they decide to take a little vacation to cheer themselves up, they go to Cape Canaveral. Mouse is a big fan of the space program and fascinated by space travel and everything about it. Carrie is the adventurous, troublemaker sort and would do anything to make her sister feel better. So, while their tour bus is stopped right there by Launch Pad 39A where Apollo 11 took off from, she’s decided a little more in-depth viewing is called for. Between one breath and the next, she disappears. Mouse is frantic to find her. Then all of a sudden Mouse is no longer at Cape Canaveral and out the window of this strange vehicle are stars and dark sky! And everyone keeps saying she’s “out of time”. Whatever that means!

She’s onboard the Orion MPCV with Surgeon Dr. Jack Evans, Intern Dr. Rafe Hoffman, and Novitiate Sally Groves. She doesn’t know where or when. She’s scientist enough to figure out rapidly that time is an issue here, as in time travel. The fine details of it still escape her, but she’s got the big picture. She’s the Origin Event!

Once Mouse gets a look at Jack, she realizes he’s the man she’s been dreaming about lately. And they have been some really hot dreams! Jack has also been dreaming. And in his time and business, dreams mean something. They usually are prophetic and in some way come true. So he knows he’ll end up with Mouse and he’s looking forward to it. But the fact that he’s been dreaming of her also means that what’s happening is meant to happen and has to happen.

There’s a lot of time jumping and place jumping. They go to some historic events and see some famous people. They have several close calls with the bad guy, Sergei, the Russian in the Lunik who has Carrie. They even get to speak with Carrie. But Carrie doesn’t want to come with them. She has her own plans. They also see some people who shouldn’t be there and Mouse is devastated. Mouse makes some friends while she’s time jumping. Dean Jordan is a tech at the Academy who she and Sally party with. Dr. Bryan Fawkes is a buddy of Jack’s who likes her, even though she beats him up when she first sees him. And the head of the whole company, Clive Crawford thinks she pretty special. Though that may be because he’s been dreaming of Carrie! She makes some enemies as well. Dr. Harding and Dr. Pratt are the company bullies and they really don’t like Mouse. So much so that Pratt has a fight with her involving chestnuts and takes a picture of Mouse throwing one back at her and gets her grounded. But she didn’t get in any trouble for stealing the police cruiser! It’s crazy!

Mimi Wylde (is a scientist with the nickname of Mouse) and her twin sister Carrie are on a holiday of a lifetime to get them out of their funk after their parents disappeared. However something bizarre happens when looking at a NASA installation and she suddenly has to find the kind of strength she never knew she had. Dr Jack Evans works as a Surgeon at the Royal Academy of Time Surgeons (RATS) where everything has a reason and consequence - even dreams. When sorting out an anomaly in the time waves he inadvertently picks up a woman from the past called Mimi Wylde and he knows that time must have been tampered with. Even worse he has been dreaming of her before he picked her up and she is everything he ever wanted. They both have to work together chasing down history and trying to fix the anomaly.

This is definitely a science fiction book so you will have to get your head around time travel and all the positives and negatives that it involves. Merged into this sci-fi story is a mystery, some danger and romance between Jack and Mimi. I found the doubt and the fighting of their attraction irritating at times and definitely had moments when I wanted to shake them. I really enjoyed the twist at the end of the story which set it up nicely for what will happen next in the story. Well written as always from Nicola

Losing Time is another great read from Claire. In trueNicola form she draws you into a complex plot with ever evolving characters. Though I could see where the plot was going at times it was anything but predictable. I have never been a great fan of the time travel genre, but this book is not your average time travel book. I will never think of the phrase "you're out of time", the same again. Jack is a great alpha in love character. Mouse though impetuous is a wonderful contradiction of personality timid and heartbroken one moment and a feisty fireball the next. I anxious!y await the sequel to Losing Time. That is my only criticism, it is a story that continues so I have to wait for all the twists and turns to be resolved.

I'll start with a confession - I didn't want to like this book. Time travel and sci-fi are not my 'thing', these genres normally leave me cold, rolling my eyes and scoffing. However, in a haze one day, I clicked on the buy it now button on Amazon after going through Bookbub to get this book for free. Well, I'm glad that I did! This story almost made me feel like I could understand science lol. The story line was paced well, it had tension, romance and comedy all rolled into one great little package. The only thing that stopped me giving it 5 stars was the fact that the book needs a good editor to give it a going over.

I can't wait for the next book!

4.5 Stars! I really enjoyed this book. It was thought provoking and angst filled and sucked me right in. Poor Mimi is torn in two different directions and her choices seem impossible. I’m sorry. I do love the time-travel genre (11-22-63 is the ultimate thrill ride), but this book goes nowhere fast. The story didn’t captivate me, and about ten percent of the way in, I threw in the towel and hit delete. Readers should also know that the writer has the irritating habit of putting the salty expression “effing this-or-that” on almost every page. Not needed and not appreciated.
