Excerpt: As she stood there watching for the intruder to come back into sight, she kept hoping to hear the sound of Max returning. The stranger had evidently assumed that no one was on the property, seeing no vehicle. She decided if she saw him head toward the house, she would try to slip out the back door and make a run for it. It seemed a better alternative to being discovered if he started ransacking the house. What was this person after? This was no longer an intriguing mystery. How would she and Max ever be able to enjoy the ranch and experience the tranquility they were hoping for as long as this man was at large? Would she ever feel safe being there alone again? Eva stood alongside the window, waiting and watching for what seemed like forever. In reality, it was about thirty minutes. And then her heart starting pounding, and her whole body began to tremble as the figure once again came into view. She felt as though she could not draw a breath. She started to retreat from the window, enough that she could still see him but so that she would be closer to getting to the back door.
Luisa Marietta Gold was born and educated in Pennsylvania, where she spent a large part of her adult life and worked for a large corporation. After her only daughter was born, she relocated to North Carolina, where she worked as a Realtor and began running a recreational business with her husband. She currently resides on eleven acres near a lake reminiscent of the Rideau lake chain that provides the setting for The Osprey Cove Lodge Series. The series was born from her love of that region of Canada, the outdoors, and lake life. Many years were spent enjoying the Rideau, staying in lodges, and for a time, her privately-owned cottage. Among her many interests are painting, cooking, baking. And of course, writing and storytelling. But it's the simple things of life that bring the most enjoyment -- the beauty of the trees outside the window of her writing room as they change with the seasons and watching her outdoor kitties interact and play. Nearly all of these interests and life experiences are reflected in her books.
Give me a break!! This series is getting worse and worse. It should have been written as a series of separate. Instead, every book seems to add even more flat characters with even more problems. First there was Catherine and Alex and Catherine’s estranged husband Doug who had bought a red Corvette and found a stash of diamonds in a secret compartment before he fled to Mexico after staging his on death. Then there is Max and Eva, the diamond thieves, who tracked Doug to Mexico, only to lose track of him. They bought his villa after he fled to Aruba and decided to stay. Next enter Emma & Will, Catherine’s best friends, who moved from NYC to Texas and end up with a piece of luggage belonging to Doug which, which unbeknownst to them contains the stolen diamonds. The luggage was left at the zoo and picked up by teenaged Sam whose mother discovered it in his closet with a tag naming Will as its owner. Lynda, Sam’s mother returns to luggage to Will & Emma. Now that Lynda has become a part of the saga, she runs into her long ago boyfriend when their sons are suspended from school for fighting. They begin dating again only to have Jared, the old flame’s, ex show up with their seriously messed up daughter. I forgot to mention Doug’s first wife, whom he never divorced, who learned his whereabouts in Aruba from Jenna, a former co-worker, who was dissed by Doug a second time. And let me not forget to mention Catherine’s siblings, Michael & Margaret. Michael, the very wealthy head of the company created by his grandfather, has fallen for Amber, whom he ultimately learns, works in his company’s mailroom and who alcoholic, drug addicted mother has reappeared and stolen everything of value Amber owns. Free spirit and self-absorbed Margaret had left her home and business in Rio and was last seen on a trip with fellow biker friends to Key West. Get the picture? Just imagine chapter after chapter adding a little more of the story of each of these characters. It would have been so much better if Gold had chosen to develop her characters more fully and write about each one separately while briefly indicating the tie in with others.
I really enjoy the characters, but there are too many “main” character. The epilogues at the end of each book are distracting and add nothing when someone has just read the book. The questions at the end of each chapter read more like the end of an old serial radio show and, like the epilogues, add nothing. It would be more enjoyable to read if the format was more other series I have read, which have fewer main characters at the beginning, and as one set of issues is resolve3d some lesser characters become more important. I doubt that I will complete the series. Nineteen is a ridiculous number of books to buy to wind up what could be resolved in far fewer.
For the most part I like the characters and the story line. There's too much repetition, restating what happened already in each characters previous chapters before continuing. You'd think it was a weekly tv show where there's a recap of the previous episode. There are also several grammatical and typographical mistakes
Will Catherine ..., Emma... Amber.... Lynda...Eva...Brooke find...?
As seems to be the ending of each book, we are left with cliffhangers. New characters have been introduced to add more suspense. And Doug seems to be the pivotal person. And where will the diamonds end up next? Stay tuned.
One picks up where the other leaves off . Can't wait to order the next in the series now all 5 are done and anxiously awaiting next book to come out. Breast characters and quick reading!
These books are good reading but there are so many different twists and turns, and different characters in different situations, it's like reading five, or six, books at the same time and switching them back and forth every few minutes.
Continued good reading. I can't wait to get the next books to finish the series. Anxious to see what awaits the characters of the series and how each of their lives play out.
