Hungrily, his lips closed on hers... and Cecilia shivered as her body responded to a wanton desire as sudden as a summer storm...
For beautiful country schoolteacher Cecilia Amanda Sinclair, life was as flat as the desert horizon, and as predictable as the Texas sunrise... until he rode roughshod into her limited world and claimed her as his booty. Cecilia thought she knew what rapacious Mexican renegades like Ramon Bautista Renaldo Ortega did to their unwilling Yankie captives. But as Ramon locked her in his inescapable embrace, she willingly surrendered to the irresistible bandit whose touch stirred within her a tempest of desire...and a moment of ecstasy she had waited for all her life....
Found this book at Texas Thrift about a year ago and FINALLY got around to reading it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars for me.
Reason for only 4 stars: 1. I'm not a fan of diving into the villain's head unless the heroine is supposed to fall in love with the villain at some point in the book. 2. I'm not a fan of the love interests being separated, and they were for a time due to war, which I know can't be helped.
This book is set during the Mexican-American War (so roughly 1846-1848).
Things I did love about this book: 1. There are plenty of smut scenes, but not explicitly written out. It's one of the things I love about books written a while ago. You connect better with the characters with this kind of smut scene writing style. 2. Who doesn't love a bandit who also has a heart of gold? 3. The heroine was strong and determined, and she didn't wither when times got rough.

I usually do not like westerns and prefer novels based on English history, but I enjoyed this one. Cecilia experiences every woman's dream -- to be kidnapped by a handsome, romantic, hero. An added bonus is the history of the Mexican-American War. This book kept my interest until the last page.
