I see my other lives, a career in the Marines, those damn hand-written tests in law school, a business consultant, as if they're stories from a book. I see my books as if I lived there, as if I were friends with the characters. All things we remember are behind us, only those we imagine lie before.

I'm not sure which place I prefer, but I don't have to choose. They live together in my mind. My books have some award nominations, they have bestseller tags across multiple countries. I write about justice, honor, and loyalty because that's what I care about. My stories are mostly set within worlds that haven't been, but could be. We have to be ready for when those times come.

No matter where I went, I always had a book with me. Thanks to 21st Century technology, I now have hundreds of books loaded on my phone and always with me. This breakthrough allows me to binge read my favorites. How many books would I have read on deployments had I not had to have a physical book with me? I paced myself so I wouldn't finish too quickly.

We aren't encumbered like that now. I love the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. I have been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, I aspire to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared me to.

Through a bizarre series of events, I ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. I never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. My wife and I get to watch the northern lights from our driveway. Our dog has lots of room to run. And temperatures reach fifty below zero. We have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.

It's all part of the give and take of life. If we didn't have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

Good story with Char charging forward to find her kidnapped husband. It’s hard to believe that would happen but not inconceivable. Plenty of action.

I'm a little sad, if I'm honest.

I was really looking forwards to the same vibe I'd had from every other book in this series but, despite the usual excellent plots, scene telling, and characterisations, there was something slightly off about the beginning of this story.

It was only once it started flowing the way that it should, that I realised that the problem was the timing. This story started with a twenty five year jump between it, and the previous one, and that didn't feel right, as all the previous stories followed seamlessly from the last.

In fact, it felt a little hurried, and that put me off my stride in reading it.

I've still given it four stars because, as you'd expect from a Craig Martelle book, this was still an excellent read, even despite the jumpy start.

I think that, mostly, I've been thoroughly spoilt with the innovative writing styles of both Craig, and Michael Anderle, and so this blip hit harder than it might have done with a less accomplished writer.

But, putting that aside, I'm very excited at the turn this book seems to be heading in, in that it feels as though THW is ready to declare an all out war against the Forsaken!

I guess I'll find out soon as, despite it being 2.45 in the morning, here in West Wales, as usual, I still can't turn off the need to read 'just one more page before I sleep'!

Definitely one of the weaker entries in the series. There's a 25 year jump, and some "what happened to"s scattered through the first half in particular - the rest is a Bond movie's second act - hero kidnapped, deathtraps, yada yada. I kept expecting to get past the initial WHAM entry and get to the actual story - then the book was over. New bad guy introduced, but we never got to see his plan (other than to take over the world) - what did he want from TH? He went to great lengths to get TH to do...something, but we never really found out what. We found out that Mrs. Grimes is a cousin by marriage of John Grimes, which doesn't really add anything. Also, since the first book, it was clear something was being foreshadowed with Felicity, starting with how she looked compared to most survivors, and her avoidance of Chief Foxtail - then it's "Oh, I got hurt, and when I woke up, someone gave me nanocytes" It's like Mr. Martelle was setting up clues, then all of a sudden realized that the time skip would show she didn't age, so he needed to through something in. Fortunately, very short, so I can move on to the next (hopefully back on track) entry.

When your leader is captured

You fight to get him back! We jump 25 years into the future. The kids are grown and some have kids of their own. TH is taken by the bad guys and the good guys pony up and do all they can to rescue their leader. Cordelia is grown and stands with her mother and various aunts and uncles to bring him back, offering her gift to those she can help and accepting her limits when she cannot. Some of our favorite FDG personnel are retired and some join this one last battle to save the man who gave them purpose. This book, to me, is a testament to the community TH, Char, Billy and Felicity have built. They fight, care for each other and mourn their losses together. The bad guys have really pissed off the community and I look forward to the results of their hubris in the next installment!

Principles of Good Triumph Over Those of Evil

Terry Henry has been kidnapped, overwhelmed after killing many of the forsaken that came for him. The Force de Guerre's rage is second only to their Alpha Char's rage. The loyalty, honor, and love of the characters remain throughout the series. I like how TH refuses to be subdued by the head forsaken who wants to break him and use him. While the series takes a time leap forward, continuity is maintained. The principles and beliefs That TH instilled in the people of North Chicago are tested and emerge even stronger. New characters are brought into the family. I look forward to the next book.

Another great story

Nomads story continues quite a few years later then the last book. In authors notes we are informed that there will be a series of short stories for the time jump. Got to admit that I wish we had them first. Truly feel that the start of the book was missing, yes it's pieced together as you read but flow of the story is lacking in certain characters developments. There are only a handful of plot points that are advanced. Hope the tomatoes grow well for the author though and I will be looking forward to those short stories to help fill the timeline.

Enjoyed the series overall so far barring a few attitudes which seemed off to me...that said I really didn't like this time jump ahead.

It's not the time jump itself as that can be done nicely if nothing major is going on but this one felt off.

I expected to learn or read more about Joseph and the felt that book 6 kind of ended with a small cliff hanger when it comes to the were that shows up at the end of book 6 on the boat with some humans..

...I think that should have been wrapped up first before jumping 20+ years ahead in time!

This book is part of the series titled "The Terry Henry Walton Chronicles" It is a series within a series set in the Kurtherian Gambit Universe. This is a post apocalyptic science fiction and fantasy spin off, and I consider it one of the top 10 series I've read in the last 5 years. Craig Martelle and Michael Anderle do a great job creating a world and characters you can believe in and get excited about. When you've finished this series, try the first book in the Kurtherian Gambit Universe, then hold on tight and enjoy the ride!

Unbelievable

I'm so hooked on this series that I can't think of nothing else. The wait is well worth it but so slow. Awesome Craig is doing his best and he has brought it. A nomad that changed the lives of so many people for the better is captured and tortured. At his wits in with the forsaken his mate, family, and friends stage a daring rescue. Lives are lost and new allies are formed. Outstanding work and well written.....

Continued enjoyment of captivating series.

Always a prolific reader, this series has been enjoyable for many reasons, the least of which is an engaging story line. These characters are human, yet not depending on their given talents. Craig has taken fantasy and the horrific reality of post-apocolyptic earth and b!ended them in a well-built reality. Also adding some great one-liners smackdab in the middle of these heavy scenes. What a gas!

A CM/MA SYFY Novel (NA) (AKGS) (THWCB - 7)

CM/MA have penned the seventh novel of the Gambit series which starts with an attack from an unusual source with a prime mission. The mission is to kidnap THW and gain access to the Cheyenne Mountain weapons systems, weapons and food. When the big "C" realizes what has happened and why she activates the FDG to rescue THW and take no prisoners. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

Words can't describe

what a wonderful read this is. The action doesn't stop, and is totally believable for the characters and story line. Having read all the Nomad books it was sad to say goodbye to some but nice to reconnect with others. The introduction of new faces and their interaction with the team is something to look forward to in future books. Keep them coming.

Another Winner

The Terry Henry Walton chronicles are among the best of the
Kurtherian galaxy. I immediately download each of the THW books as they come out and generally finish them the same day. They are well written and I can't stop reading them once I have started. I highly recommend this group of books.

Another great story of TH's adventures

It's 25 years later than the last book in the Nomads series. TH has been captured by a Forsaken vampire and his family and friends are determined to save him. A great story with many surprises, especially with some of the characters that added so much to all the books. Fun read.

This was a heavy read

I'm not complaining, not at all. It felt like a shorter book than usual, but nothing was left open. At least for this story.
I started it this morning, and was already royally pissed off by the third page. That means a lot. I'm not going to spoil anything, so read it yourself.

I didn't read the blurb

So I didn't read the blurb which left me both confused, at first, by the title and shocked with the fast forward. Still, this was an exciting and thrilling addition to the main and sub series. Perhaps I should read blurbs too not be startled with large time gaps.

What great series!!!

I LOVE these books!! I so enjoy the story but really love getting to know the chactors and then getting to know what happens to them! Great job! Thank you so much for continuing the stories. After I read a great book I often wonder "but what happened to so and so??" With this series your questions are answered without being bored! Great writing !

Wow

How stupid can one Forsaken be? It kidnapped Terry Henry Walton. Needless to say, hell rained down on him and the rest of his followers in the form of Char, Aiko, the FDG and the rest of the gang. It was an awesome story yet again. I haven't mentioned this recently but I suggest that if you don't read the author's notes, you should. Enjoy!

A grave situation

The story is moved a generation from the last book. The town is doing well, with the FDG still a small unit but with its level of training better than ever. When Terry Henry is captured by an evil individual, Char and the FDG have to deal with finding TH so they can get him back.

This really is the best book in the series, the change in style and the jump farther into the future was a fantastic idea and it worked super well. I love it!

The story keeps rolling.

The latest installment doesn't disappoint. The tale moved swiftly and the new forsaken character was suitably evil. This story occurs 25 years after the last so a lot the main characters were children when last seen. Nice tasted paced read.

We'll see it to the end...

...and they DID! TH didn't go down without a fight, and his people didn't, either. I like that the jump in time hasn't disrupted the story, and look forward to short stories to in the gap.

Confused at the beginning

No one explained how Terry Henry was captured. Nor did they say how the Forsaken knew who Terry Henry was or how to catch him. I'm still going to finish the series, it was just weird.

A good story!!

Actually, simple premise, good guy gets captured, team comes together, kicks some gas, loses good guys, plows thru and wins. Goes home , has coffee, rinse, repeat. But it sells! It's good words in a row.

Steep uptick in action

This book seemed to really pick up the action and kept me riveted more than previous books. Plot predictability is one thing that I don’t like. This one has just enough twist to keep it from being predictable.

Wow!

This was great sory! Full of terror and sadness, but also triumph. The rounding out of the characters is really lovely to read. We've added a few new ones, and lost some others. Just like life. Beautiful.
