Maya Graves needs a small miracle. She’d arrived in Monroe with a bulging suitcase, a stack of research, and little more than a prayer. The FBI said her brother killed someone and then set the house on fire, accidentally killing himself too. Her parents had given up, writing him off as the black sheep of the family. That was easier, she guessed, with the FBI breathing down their necks. That didn’t mean she was going to drop it—hell, no. Her brother had been there for her since the day she was born and now it was her turn. She’d prove he hadn’t killed anyone, or die trying.
Seth Hale might be the squad’s rookie, but he knows enough to tell something was off about that fire. Even if there wasn't, he’d protect Maya regardless. Standing in the chief’s office that morning, one look at her big blue eyes, wet with tears, and he was gone. When county arson investigator Liam Cohen confirms his suspicions, he’s determined to help Maya prove her case. But the truth they uncover just leads to more secrets, ones someone will kill to protect.
Trial by Fire is book 4 in the Southern Heat series, and can be read stand-alone. Characters from earlier books do appear as secondary characters.
Would probably give it 5 stars if there was an epilogue.
I agree with one review here that said this was a page turner. I like that the heroine was really bent on finding justice to her good brother that she knew wouldn't do the thing "they" accused him for. Even though along the line she really realised how out of depth was she trying to investigate the case. Luckily for her there were good ppl incl. the Hero came to her rescue. I wish she would be a bit more vigilant, like she should know better to be more careful when she was against those big guys in the organisations.
Maybe it's just me but it's kind of weird how the heroine kind of had a mood swings(?) sometimes. Like suddenly she wld explode and be mad. The Hero was a saint and a green flag.
In Southern Heat Book 4, we get Seth's story. When Maya hits town looking to clear her brothers name, Seth is assigned to help her. We get to see more of Liam and Meg from a previous book. This book stays in line with the rest of this series. Lots of action and heat! Loved it! Awesome read! Enjoy!!!
This is a dramatic and suspense filled romance that follows in a series of firefighter stories. Maya and Seth's story evolves as they try to determine exactly what happened to Maya's brother. Jamie Garrett writes stories of strong women, and the even stronger, alpha men who love them. A great read. I voluntarily left a review for an ARC of this book.
Fourth in the series but it stands well alone. Strong characters and a good story line. Lots of action and mystery. Maya and Seth make a good pair that work well together to find the answers. Some references to prior stories, but they don't interrupt the story. Enjoyed it.
I liked the story of Seth and Maya. It was interesting and it was nice to read about the other couples from the previous books. I can't wait to read about Jesse's story next.
I loved this book ,so great if you love hot firemen, action ,suspense and loving strong women this is the book to read Highly recommend this story not to mention this whole series 5 stars.
Maya wants the truth about the fire that claimed her brothers life. Seth is a firefighter assigned to help her but will she be able to live with the truth? This is an intense, dangerously, explosive read.
This is a great series. Each firefighter has their own story but the community spirit is so important to each of the stories. Each story contributes to a whole. Very well written charismatic characters. I can't wait to find out who will be next.
I knew from the first chapter this book was going to be action packed and steamy. Maya and Seth’s chemistry about burned up the pages. So many secrets and unforeseen events, this one was hard to put down! Loved it. Can’t wait for the next book!
Another wonderful addition to the Southern Heat series! Death, drama, threats, and so much mystery your head might spin. I can generally figure things out, but a few twists in this story blindsided me. 😍
