"Uqasha offers a paradox in its invention of 'moral' erotic fiction which defies the narrow preconceptions of the Islamic faith by putting Muslim values and characters - and challenges to these values - at its heart. A quietly subversive twist to the erotic fiction genre, and a bold, brave debut," Arifa Akbar
Uqasha started as a serial on Wattpad, updated 3 times a week for a year. It currently has more than 5.64 million readers. Written in Malay, it is now available in English for the first time from the independent publishing house, Fixi London.

Uqasha is exploring the place of a woman in Modern Islam as a daughter, a wife, a friend and a person. She is finding as her contemporary – millennials if you will – how tricky it is to circumvent life in the maze of social media. She is challenging the archaic social and religion construct including defying the rules and punishments in marriage and in relationship between man and woman.
Uqasha is the next Feminist Icon. She is badass and she is Muslim.
Written by a young Muslim woman about muslim women for Muslim women and those who are interested. It is a timely novel for longer, deeper, urgent and necessary conversation about women and Islam in the very colourful and troubled world today.
Born in a musical family background, Maria fell in love with art at the first sight. And as she taught herself to read, she fell for the beauty of language.
Never set limit to her creativity, Maria used to play dollhouse to pour out her 'right-brain' contents. And as she grew up, she chose a different outlet -- writing.
Starting with Uqasha back in 2015, Maria's first baby is now published under Lejen Press (Uqasha: Nafsu and Uqasha 2: Rahsia) and now brought international by Fixi London.
Very different from what I usually read, started off as something that caught my attention just enough but quickly evolved into a "50 Shades of Gray" esque plot that didn't hold me. The pacing is brisk and the language accessible, just not my type of book!
