Genevieve is a successful entrepreneur, her advertising agency well respected. She is lonely and unfulfilled in every relationship, but meeting Christopher is electric. Being my first Piper Stone book, when I first started listening to I thought here we go with another BDSM book. It was a pleasant surprise to have my first impression wrong. Yes, there is a lot about the relationship between Christopher and Genevieve, but there is so much more going on! Both of these characters have been lost for years, so when they got together, it took a while for them to build the trust needed in their dom/sub relationship. While taking this journey, we are plummeted into the business side of Christopher's club and political dealings. The old boys club traditions are brought open and how things were supposed to be run, old members coming out and giving information, relationships being mended. Clive is one that is needed to be watched, so I am curious where the next book in this series will take us. So many twists and turns in this story, you have to pay attention to take it all in, but it is definitely worth the listen.

Performed by Maxx Power, this story is powerful and hot! He has a vast array of voices to cover the characters and is able to give this story the punch it needs. Between the erotic scenes which he portrays to perfection and the high power business characters, he is able to give a book of high-powered business men the class that it deserves.

TRUST WITHOUT QUESTION—TRUST WITHOUT RESERVATION

Oh my, what a delicious and enticing beginning to a new series and POWER EXCHANGE definitely is an appropriate name. Greed, corruption, control, blackmail, revenge, secrets, mystery and suspense, and that is only in the business dealings. Add in dominance and submission, sadomasochistic relationship, pleasure, and pain, and ownership to this enticing mix will keep the pages turning. There is a large cast of characters, but they have a way of all connecting and playing a role in this tale.

Genevieve Tallen is a successful entrepreneur, her advertising agency well respected. Christopher Patterson is a business mogul, but he is ruthless in his business takeovers, squashing those under him like stepping on a bug. When Genevieve and Christopher get together, this woman who is dominant in the business world is a complete submissive behind closed doors to Christopher. “Some might say he was a monster. For Genevieve, he was her Dom. Perhaps, one day, he’d be her Master.” “There was no way she could tell anyone what went on behind closed doors, even Carla. The realization was startling. She was a powerful woman. How could she give up control to any man, let alone one who required her absolute submission?”

The plot will take the reader on a roller coaster ride of highs and lows in the business world and behind the doors in the dark of dominance and submission. So many secrets will eventually be revealed. Friends to enemies, backstabbing, blackmailing, and revenge is all tied up in a group of men who have been in the business world dating back to their parents. It is all power struggles to be the top dog and to want what someone else has, even if that is a submissive woman. “Control and obedience. Two words you’re going to learn tonight.”

Christopher is a sadist. “He’d been controlling, and sadistic, tender and loving, and the combination should have confused her. Instead, she was even more attracted.” “Pleasure and pain, my dear, the paramount of true ecstasy.”

I really wanted to love this book. I usually love all dark novels that are well written and I thought this would be great. A few things made this a book one that I simply got through rather than enjoyed. First was the double meaning to everything that was said and also the “read between the lines” style of talking the characters employed. It consisted of so much innuendo and double meaning that I had a hard time understanding what they were saying without actually saying it, to the point that some of the main scenes were so convoluted I simply read it without understanding what the author was trying to convey. Second thing was the lack of sex in this novel. This was shelved as erotica, which is my preferred genre, but there was one scene in the entire book and even that consisted of the main character getting whipped and that’s where it ended. The next paragraph after that the female character is recalling the night before and how they had sex and you’re so confused for a second thinking you missed a chapter somewhere along the way, but nope, there’s just no sex scene in the entire book. Finally, the lack of character development and the mystery surrounding them is so ridiculous that until the very end you’re confused about who the characters are and what their motives and drives are. All in all, the character development needed some more TLC to capture you and make you fall in love with them; it almost felt like the author was trying to use too much anticipation about the characters background but then when it came down to it, it fell flat. With that said, the writing was immaculate and the plot of the book was so good that it just captures you and makes you want to know what’s going to happen next.

I really like Piper Stone's smoke jumper series. That said I really wanted to like this but I didn't. It took almost to the end of the book for me to even care about what was going on. I didn't care about the characters. I found it to be tedious and boring, mediocre at best.
Even the narrative didn't help much. I'm sorry to say for me the story got a 2 1/2 stars the narrative a 4. Overall I'd give it a 3.
In case you might think it's it's because you think the bdsm background isn't my thing. I've read some of the blacklight series, masters of the castle and Livia Grant's passion series and I've very much enjoyed them.
Oops I almost forgot to say. This Audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher, author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.

This is a fast paced book that starts out as a BDSM story with a not very likeable male, Christopher, and a very accomplished female, Genevieve. It turns into a mystery of sorts, but as a mystery, it is confusing and the basic premise, about a BDSM club that is secretly involved in local politics and business for over 20 years, is a little hard to accept. It is fast paced and the scenes between Genevieve and Christopher are hot – but the mystery part of the story is difficult to follow and it is hard to accept the ultimate explanations

Christopher has a need to rule and own everything. Genevieve is an entrepreneur and owns an advertising company. They are perfect for one another. She is not afraid of a power exchange and she submits gladly because she doesn't want to lose Christopher. The plot is all over the place not knowing who you can trust. The dominant men also want the same prize Genevieve .

This story has an interesting plot. It is about power exchange with a bit of mystery and hidden secrets. The Dom is a hard edged and not exactly likable Alpha male. The submissive to me is more believable and likeable as a strong woman who knows what she wants. Although this book can get a little slow and rambling I recommend you read.

Burn by Piper Stone is the second book in the Missoula Smokejumpers Series.
Every book can easily be read as a standalone, there are only a few crossover.
Meet Lt. Landen Weaver, he transferred from NYC fire department to his new job as smoke jumper in Missouls , Montana. He fits right in with his new crew.
Shannon Miller is a bar owner in Missoula. She´s a feisty readhead and knows exactly what she wants.
Both meet and they have this crazy chemistry. But life and circumstances throw a wrench their way.
Burn has everything I love in a book, drama, danger, a great love story. I like the writing, the characters and the words. I give 4 stars. Thank you, Piper Stone.
