By the end of the last volume Shalltear under the influence of an enemy is still fighting Ainz but now she has split into two forms. Be sure to read how Ainz overcomes this new challenge as he is forced to continue fighting one of his former guild mates creations. Also in this volume Lizardfolk tribes are being warned of impending invasion of Ainz's forces and must take actions which includes working with other factions to survive the coming threat (I wonder if this is really about fortifying his defence with lizardfolk undead or if Ainz is still trying to figure out who turned Shalltear against him by making a grand move like this.)

My favorite part would have to be when Zaryusu Shasha comes to the red eye lizard tribe for negotiations and falls in love with the albino leader of the group at first sight. Of course this scene wouldn't be as funny without Crusch Lulu's responses to his advances. :)

Continuing on from the previous volume, ainz continues his battle with shalltear, a very good well written and drawn battle keeping me engaged throughout
This chapter ended the first season of the anime

The rest of this volume is the start of season 2. I really like the lizardmen, the way they are getting ready knowing the potential outcome is really cool. I'm looking forward to the next volume

The conclusion of the Ainz vs (brainwashed) Shalltear fight. Blah, blah, blah, Ainz is overpowered and also clever, simply because he understands the videogame rules that govern this world.

Anyway, that's resolved so now we're on to subjugating the lizardmen, which swaps perspectives and a lizardman named Zaryusu is the new protagonist.

But, I started watching the anime and I'm already done with this part of the story (cause interlibrary loans are SLOW ) so I breezed right through this manga. Is it any better? Eh... not really. I still don't see why everyone raves about it.

Volume 5 covers the start of the second season of the anime.

World building is one of the reasons I enjoy Overlord in both manga and anime.

However, as a reader, one has to switch perspectives. The main character of this story is the villain, and thus must do villainous things to new characters that the reader grew some affinity.

Shalltear Bloodfallen is fierce af and I love her. Also I can’t believe I’ve grown so attached to that lizard people subplot in like half a volume I don’t want Nazarick to attack them like I really hope they can unite in some meaningful way because they deserve their sovereignty😭

The conclusion of the fight between Shalteer and Ains was glorious. That being said the setup to the battle between Nazarek and the Lizardmen is probably the most boring part of the manga, anime, and light novels. That being said, I am very much looking forward to beginning Volume 6 of the manga.
