Trent Donavan is the golden boy of the rock world. As lead singer of Three Ugly Guys, he’s every fangirl’s dream, and with his newfound fame the women flow as readily as alcohol and drugs. There’s no doubt women are Trent’s preferred indulgence after a successful show.
That is, until the feisty little blonde joins the tour.
Lexi Marx loves music. It runs in her blood and flows through her soul. As the illegitimate daughter of a rock legend, she’s determined to make it in the music industry on talent alone. So when her agent scores her the opening act gig for the next 3UG tour it seems her hard work, hopes, and dreams have finally come to fruition.
Until she spends time with the band. More accurately, Trent Donovan. She’d feel better if that arrogant manwhore of a lead singer would stop hitting on her with his dreamy eyes, witty comebacks, and voice that melts the most jagged of hearts.
But Trent is determined to prove to Lexi he’s not such a bad guy, and as music binds their friendship, Lexi’s left with the most confusing of emotions. Could this be love or an uninvited distraction? She can still have it all, if only her heart doesn’t lead her off track.

As soon as I started Detour, I wished for a temporal rip in reality so I could back-pedal the moment I made the decision to pick this up. that feeling made me incredibly sad. For an entire half of this book, I had serious pro-DNF urges, every one more anxious than the last, and every one strongly edged with distaste for a leading man who persistently tested my patience and soured my stomach from the opening scene.
You can get away with the big character flaws and imperfections with fantasy in a way you can't in real life, and that's what I love with romantic fiction (or any piece fiction) - we can suffer through a lot and with astonishing amounts of intrigue. I'm also a girl who loves a good redemption story and i have a special fixation with watching characters renew themselves. To even prove me wrong. I can overlook a lot as long as I'm connecting with a book and its characters in a meaningful way, but what I don't have a tolerance for are leading guys like Trent Donavan. So I'm walk through what spoiled this book for me...
While I have a hard-pressed need for completion (which was the only reason I finished this book) so does direly risque Trent but in a characteristically different etiquette, and while I can commit to my reads, Trent can't commit to much else beyond life on the road and sharing sheets with any attention-seeking woman. For just short of 50% of this book, I had to hear about, watch and suffer through scenes of this infantile rockstar drool over, Indulge in and bed every woman, groupie and sexual partner he could get his smutty hands on. This felt more like a 'let's number up on Trent's quest to bump uglies with as many swappable, nameless, exchangeable faces and line-forming groupies to sate his addiction to anything carnal’ and less like the romance it was supposed to be. It wears the look of a romance more than it reads as one.
It all starts with a full-blown, open door experience to a threesome which prefaces who he is and what his voracious appetite is like. It doesn't stop there. Even after the meet and greet with Lexi, which got me excited In thinking this is going to be someone he’ll immediately work for, he goes on to do much of the same. Luckily for me, because I can't stand alternative bedroom scenes with other partners, most of his other romps are off-page. Trent’s sex on repeat lifestyle was odious and I generally find it spoil-my-stomach sour to witness sexual affairs with OWs. As sex hungry as a protagonist is, the storyline can be cleverly manipulated and navigated to circumvent sexual situations with other people. I’m not going to sit around for a character to have an epiphany after they’ve had rounds of pointless fun…
The biggest breaking point by paper cut was his friends with benefits relationship with Cora. Despite Trent’s feelings for Lexi, this supermodel is one of few women he allows for repeat bed-shaking business, a 'goddess' he'd never turn down. When I thought he'd turn a corner, he doesn't deny what she offers on a platter. That was a testing moment for him, to turn away the one woman he likes enough to Invite over for multiple bouts of you know what. The fact he didn't was a cutting point for me because he can say no anytime he wants, but doesn’t. Not my kind of man sadly. Actually, not sadly. There's a reason I deeply dislike this archetype and I was reminded of just precisely why.
As much as Trent likes to remind us of his love (addiction)for women, what he really means is his love for sex, and I have no idea where his aversion to female singers comes from In spite of seeing the misogynistic undertone to the remark. I don’t enjoy reading from womanisers, philanderers or fictional me who share a visceral desire for excessive deviance or debauchery or just a plain animal craving for getting it on, but I’ve read plenty of books about reformed ‘playboys’ (points at self, a romance fanatic over here) and I still don't like them. BUT I like to keep bedroom behaviour strictly between the love interests the book is made for. If not, it shows an indifference to the girl the guy is supposed to end up with. I'm sure along with any hint of losing his bedmate power, it would be the dreaded nightmare of all nightmares if Trent Donavan’s favourite part stopped doing his favourite thing.
The leap from lecherous to only you wasn't worth the wait (for me) after wasting away the good potential of a romantic build up from the onset. It's a good thing that, though Lexi saw and felt his strong mystique, she was resistant to being compelled from the start. I was glad she wasn't going to be the fall at the knees heroine who can't say no. While Trent is shallow and remiss in the first half, he was more attentive and likeable in the second half. That’s where the romance actually kicks off, but really, I'd have given him points just for not bed hopping like it was his life's most crucial aim.
While Three Ugly Guys (Trent's band) are moving into the bigger sphere of musical stardom, Lexi is the starving artist who, just after getting signed, is headlining Trent's band for their summer tour. She's been rejected plenty but it's never derailed her. Her dream is strong but her drive has a life of its own, something she wants only if it's worked and won by her own efforts. Willful and unbending she wants any acquired success to be of her own making but she’s jaded against rockstars and the gratuitous lifestyle they lead.
She's there not for three stunning performers but for opportunity to be Lexi Marx. That's what I liked about her character. She’s independent and self-driven and nobody tells her what to do. She's there to flaunt her talent, not compromise her ethic for a pretty face. Go Lexi! Of course, she resists until she doesn't, which is always disappointing when one is in full awareness that a heroine can do so much better, but thankfully Trent's then leaving behind his infatuation for juggling women, even though I openly doubted, every step of the way, that he'd leave behind the sexual sympathies for being a multiple-man woman.
Feel free to disagree and while there are plenty of exchangeable definitions of romance - I love and crave it all - but to me, a romance entitles two love interests to each other, not to other people, because this written story is their playground. I read for their budding love, their romantic direction, the naughty and nice and angst and spice. I don't read for open-for-all sheet-tumbling unless I'm reading a reverse harem or polygamous romance. Along with trigger warnings, I think authors should provide a cautionary reflections regarding character profiles and sexual partnerships with other people along with the cheating/no cheating affirmation just so a reader knows what they're getting into.
To comment on other essentials, Trent and Lexi have good chemistry but the author doesn't maximise it and wastes the potential of what could have been an electric slow burn from the get go. Still, the characters are Interesting and I felt the pull. The cover is gorgeous (and was a big selling point for me). I liked the camaraderie between the bandmates and there were some funny moments that jolly up the vibe. I especially liked Sean, and the few bedroom scenes between Lexi and Trent steamed like a seashell broth, but I was surprised by the fact she wanted to go without protection the first time. In full knowing of where and how often his man parts frequent the town, I’m not sure what she was thinking… Targeted focus on big moments like when Lexi opens the first show of the tour could have simmered with an electric performance but were underwritten or just absent. It's in these parts that these build-up moments aren't given the time to build up. A rockstar romance could use that rockstar spectacle.
I really had no intention of writing up a disapproving review because I had the highest hopes and biggest butterflies in my belly for Detour. When I say I’m disappointed, I mean I was really disappointed. It’s first part, self-indulgent and juvenile Trent that claims full ownership of my rating. Second part Trent was bearable and even likeable, but you know what they say about first impressions, they’re really damned impressionable. Stylistically speaking, the potential is here, but from a purely feelings perspective, it didn’t hit the mark and Trent gave me too many palpitations borne from distress to consider any alternative.
As much as I’m partial to the rockstar trope, this is why I'm hesitant to select any one rockstar romance. As always, all opinions above as just my personal bag of preferences, thoughts and reflections. This just wasn’t the rockstar romance for me. I had cut and run from Brittany Cherry’s The Wreckage Of Us just before this for very similar reasons (and because of the pretty cover ploy), but the universe clearly wanted to put me through my paces with another so I resolutely wasn’t free to flee and sat through this. Happy reading friends and remember to snatch a sprinkle of salt with all of the above!
As an added recommendation, if you want to read a readable, lovable and likeable rockstar romance I'm going to recommend Lisa Becker's Starfish. You'll love it 😊

After reading Kacey Shea's Caught In The Flamesthat literally tested my sanity and fucked my brains out over and over, I was looking forward to more of her other works. She's a new author for me so with that book, she caught my attention. So when I learned about Detour, I could not help but be thrilled because at last I could finally have my Kacey Shea fix. That and the fact that the book screams ROCKSTAR ROMANCE. I am a fan of this trope, so to say that I was excited was an understatement. I did not just ravished it, I read it with all my heart enjoying my journey of Trent and Lexi. So without giving you too much away as the blurb pretty summed up what the book is all about I will just leave my review like this...
Detour was a light hearted read. No OTT drama yet got loads and loads of fun, banters, bickering and scorching scenes that will definitely make your panties in a twist. I love the characters because they're easy to fall in love with. Their chemistry was undeniable and although the attraction was immediate, I had no complaints about it since it was supported with Kacey's brilliant portrayal of them' hence the insta-attraction. Trent, A rock star who loves music and pussy more than anything, (well, he loves her Momma, so a plus right?) found her match with Lexi's strong and sassy nature. These two together might not be as explosive but I enjoyed my journey with them together with the secondary characters. But I'll be honest here, it took me several chapters before I felt a connection to the story and the characters. It felt off at first and with the pacing, it kinda bore me. I was so glad though that I root for them because when it picked up I did not just enjoy it, I love it and realized there's more to this rock star romance than I have it given credit for. It got depth and with rock stars as foundation, there was more to the story than that. With it's wit and humor plus a heart more than those steamy sex scenes that had me fanning, I fell in love with the story and the characters BIG TIME.
Oveall, I will recommend this book. If you're looking for a story that will give you a ride into music, fun, love with depth, then this book is for you. Take a ride with Trent and Lexi and the whole gang, have fun and fall in love with them.
To Kacey Shea, I am excited what you're in store for us next time!
In short this book has all of that NA rock star romance. The cheesy OTT love and the immature of the characters. It still bearable to read. And I also sense the flip flop of the character development.
The character development really needs convincing. A lot editing on their chemistry. Because the insta lust/ love feels forced. I can not feel the tender vulnerable moment between the main characters.

Genre: Rockstar Romance | Narrators: Jason Clarke & Lessa Lamb Series: Off Track Records, Book 1
🎸 Hero Spotlight: Trent Donovan
Trent Donovan is the kind of rockstar who got into music for all the wrong reasons—and it worked. Fame, guitars, and a revolving door of groupies were his high school dream, and by 28, he’s living it as the cocky, charismatic frontman of “Three Ugly Guys.” But beneath the swagger and smirks, there’s a growing weariness. The endless parade of women who sound the same, act the same, and mistake performative sexiness for actual connection is starting to grate on him. He’s not just bored—he’s disillusioned.
Trent’s cynicism doesn’t stop him from sleeping around, but it does reveal cracks in his rockstar armor. He’s fiercely loyal to his band, protective of his mom, and—surprisingly—deeply skeptical of the label’s push for a female drummer. He sees it as a PR stunt waiting to implode, so the band sticks with their older roadie instead. Trent may be a jerk, but he’s not stupid. And when Lexi Marks enters the picture, his protective instincts kick in hard.
🎤 Heroine Spotlight: Lexi Marks
Lexi Marks is the kind of heroine you root for from the first page. Scrappy, talented, and stubbornly independent, she’s grinding away at a coffee shop while chasing her dream of making it in music. Rejection has been her constant companion, but it hasn’t broken her—it’s sharpened her resolve. She refuses to use connections or favors to get ahead, even when they’re available. Lexi wants to earn her place, not borrow it.
When she finally lands a meeting with a real agent, hope flickers to life. Her music is everything—her identity, her lifeline—and this tour opportunity feels like the break she’s been waiting for. But Lexi has a secret, one her agent knows and promises to keep under wraps. She wants to be judged on her talent, not her past. And when the band finds out, NDAs are signed and lips are sealed. Still, comparisons to a certain pop princess sting, and Lexi’s determination to stand on her own only intensifies.
🔥 Plot Pulse
Lexi joins the tour as the opening act, and the tension is immediate. Trent sees the way his bandmates look at her and lays down the law: Lexi is off-limits. They all agree—no hookups, no drama. But Lexi isn’t just another pretty face. She’s talented, grounded, and unimpressed by their fame. She’s not here to flirt; she’s here to sing. And that makes her more intriguing than any groupie they’ve ever met.
As the tour unfolds, Trent’s initial protectiveness morphs into something deeper. He starts to see Lexi not as a complication, but as a revelation. She challenges his assumptions, calls out his arrogance, and refuses to be dazzled by his rockstar persona. And slowly, Trent begins to change—not because Lexi wants him to, but because he wants to be someone worthy of her.
💘 What Hit Home
• Trent’s freakishly long tongue is a quirky detail that somehow works—equal parts weird and memorable. • His complicated relationship with women is frustrating but layered. He’s jaded, yes, but not heartless. His love for his mom and his growing respect for Lexi show that he’s capable of more. • Watching Trent shift from dismissive to protective was satisfying. His treatment of Lexi—gentle, respectful, and real—felt earned.
😬 Room to Grow
• Lexi’s constant lip ring biting and twisting felt juvenile. It was a tic that pulled me out of the moment and made her seem younger than she is. Less high school angst, more grown-up grit, please.
🎧 Narration Vibes
The dual narration elevated this audiobook. Jason Clarke delivers his usual magic—gravelly, sexy, and emotionally textured. He nails Trent’s cockiness and vulnerability with equal finesse, and his ability to switch voices and accents keeps the cast distinct and dynamic.
Lessa Lamb was a delightful surprise. Her voice has a raspy edge that suits Lexi’s singer-songwriter vibe perfectly. She sounds youthful but not immature, and her emotional delivery made Lexi’s struggles and triumphs feel personal. I’ll be looking for more of her work.
📝 Final Thoughts
This audiobook hits the sweet spot between rockstar romance and emotional redemption. Trent’s journey from jaded player to protective partner is compelling, and Lexi’s grit and grace make her a heroine worth cheering for. The narration adds depth and texture, making this a tour worth taking—lip ring quirks and all.

Sexy, fun with great characters. I enjoyed this rockstar romance full of sass, with a great banter and good dynamics. A light-hearted story with some depths.
I like stories about rockstar/manwhore, with their big hearts and totally living the wrong way to live their lives, enjoying the immediate gratification and at one moment of their lives being knocked out by their match. Seeing them work for it? Sign me in.
As you might guess, Trent is the epitome of a rockstar, enjoying at its full speed this life. Fame, women, he got it all, until his plans to be on tour with his friends were disrupted by a sexy music who will literally rock this world. Of course, sometimes he didn’t make the best choices but I really liked how kind, dedicated and loving he was. I had my reservations about this character, but the more I was reading about him, the more I liked him.
What about his match?? Lexi, the bombshell full of sass and totally unaffected or immune to his charms, first. Being the daughter of rockstar, she knew well how to stay away from men like Trent, or mostly rockstars in general. Guarded and not letting people on her life, being sarcastic and badass was a facade to make them stray away.
The chemistry was pretty great and these two totally nailed it. The constant flirting and witty banter was really entertaining and fun. Their relationship was for sure hot but it was so much more, with more depth. We could definitely sense the connection and how deep was their love to each other.
The dynamic was awesome. The interaction between all the characters was really great, the storyline was solid, showing a wide range of emotions, reading about the backstage of a tour, the aspirations and dreams, the thrill and intensity of being on stage, doing the thing you love with all your heart.
Usually I was waiting for the other shoe to drop but I liked the turning events and how the author build Lexi and Trent’s story, as individuals and together.
The tour with the 3 Ugly Guys was a wonderful journey, definitely not that I was expecting. Reading about Trent finding his match definitely worth it. Can't wait to read more about these endearing characters!
Blurb: Trent Donavan is the golden boy of the rock world. As lead singer of Three Ugly Guys, he’s every fangirl’s dream, and with his newfound fame the women flow as readily as alcohol and drugs. There’s no doubt women are Trent’s preferred indulgence after a successful show.

Detour is the first book in the Off Track Records series.
*ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review* "She's my world your, my greatest award, better than any bestselling album or performance." This was my 4th book by Kacey and I loved it just as much as every other one of hers. I have to admit, I thought this was going to be completely separate from the Uncovering Love series but I was super excited to find out that I was dead wrong! I couldn't contain my excitement when I found out that this book follows a hunk that I've had the pleasure of meeting in the other books. I didn't want to let the characters from UL go and now I don't have to. This new series is giving me so much hope! Kacey has given me something I didn't know I was yearning for and hopefully that shows just how much I love her work. This is a rock star romance and it was like none other I've ever read. It's a dual POV so it also follows Lexi, an up and coming singer/songwriter. These two meet right before they go on tour together and they both stole my heart right away. As individuals, they are hilarious and as real as you and me. But as a duo, they are that plus so much more. I loved how Trent showed his fierce, caring side right from the start. He was so perfect for Lexi and vice versa. They both tell it how it is and the way they worked through their problems was nothing short than awe-mazing. I wish I meet my own Trent soon because this book gave me all the feels that I didn't want to stop experiencing.. I'm a bit obsessed with Trent, in case it isn't obvious. The only criticism I have for this book was that a few things were more than a bit predictable. I saw some things coming and yes, it put a bit of a damper on my mood, but I just shrugged it off and kept going. Kacey is a mastermind when it comes to writing. Her novels always feel lighthearted and epic until you get slapped by a sudden depth that you can't crawl out of. The rawness that Kacey includes in her books brings you to the ground while at the same time, everything else keeps you soaring. This is exactly what this novel was and I loved it even more because of it. The ending was beyond beautiful and it had me bawling like a baby. I can't tell you how many times I went back to reread it because I didn't want to let go. I can't wait for Sean's story next! "When life gets off track, sometimes a little detour is all it takes to set things right." Not recommended for readers under 18.
From the opening, sordid scene, that left a bad aftertaste in my mouth, to the miraculous change of the immature man-whore hero to a faithful, one-woman man in just a couple of pages, this story just did not appeal. (And mom walking in on the threesome, completely unfazed by the sight of one girl riding her son while the other is sitting on his face, and asking her son to finish up because there was someone to see him, was too ridiculous to believe. I have a 25 year-old son and I NEVER want to see that!)
I found it hard to relate to a bunch a men in their late twenties who lived with the hero's mother (yep, really) when they weren't touring, and who mostly lived for the drunken groupie-sex they ended each performance night with. Yes, its a cliché, but it can be well-done and usually involves the men maturing as they move past their late teens and into their twenties. This star, who happily declares that his hobby and addiction is pussy (I'm thinking sexual addiction here), was just plain unpleasant.
The heroine was all mouth -I'm not tapping that egotistical man-slut, I have more self-respect than that- until she wasn't. Luckily she gave the hero the "best blow-job of my life", which meant she was a keeper as far as he was concerned. She'd want to be creative and have a voracious sexual appetite to keep him interested.
Honestly, this is rather poor smut-by-numbers masquerading as a romance. Romance doesn't usually involve dozens of faceless, nameless women. and heroes who call their dick Mr T. IKR?
There are some fabulous rock star romances out there. This wasn't one of them.
Detour is a new Rockstar Romance, that will have you wanting more.
Trent is part of the band Three Ugly Guys. They’ve been together for years. The popularity has grown and they're starting their tour. A new act is coming to open and that is Lexi Marx. She’s talented, and honestly, I think more talented than those Three Ugly Guys.
Lexi has a lot she’s dealing with inside. She’s stubborn and wants to do everything by herself. Then there’s Trent who wants nothing but to have Lexi, even though he’s been warned. This was an enjoyable read. I’m still on the fence about Trent, not sure if I really like him. Overall, I think he’s a good guy but just really cocky. But Lexi is a force to be reckoned with.
The writing was done well and I was interested to see where Shea led us. The only thing is, I didn’t emotionally connect with the characters. It didn’t pull at my heart strings. But they played beautiful music together.
One thing I do want to mention, I do love this cover. It was different for me. Usually, rock star romances have the buff male on the front. This cover really gives you that feel, that it's not like every other rock star romance.
Lexi is an up-and-coming rock musician who ends up getting the gig of her life opening for new sensation Three Ugly Guys. She deals with sexism in a male-dominated industry that she has an interesting connection to- but prefers to make it on her own merit. Lexi is tough as nails to protect herself after being let down numerous times by family figures.
Trent is the lead singer of Three Ugly Guys, which is a pop-rock band made up of guys who act like goofy brothers. He is known as a playboy and butts heads with Lexi (who isn't impressed by his reputation). An incident lands them in proximity to each other, and no matter how much they fight their attraction to each other, they cannot seem to help themselves.
The banter between the band mates as well as between Kacey and the band (especially Trent) was great- witty, funny, spunky, and a bit crazy. The timeline was realistic, and I really liked how the characters seemed to be the opposite of who they actually are- based on their persona.
A fun and fast read with chemistry, fun characters, and plenty of spirit.
EVERYTHING YOU COULD EVER WANT FROM A ROCK STAR ROMANCE! And yes, that did necessitate caps lock. Detour had me hooked right from the start. The banter, the chemistry, the characterization, the development of the music industry's world-this story will pull you right in and convince you these people and places are real. This is a super fun read with just the right amount of angst, and it doesn't hold back when it comes to the steam! I loved seeing the journey both the leads went on and how they discovered so much about themselves while learning about each other and how to be together. Highly recommended to any rock star romance fans, or romance enthusiasts in general!
I seriously devoured this book! I have a book buddy Kathy whom left a raving review for this book. I think I downloaded this before her but she read it first, after reading her review I bumped it up in my TBR. And seriously happy that I did. This is my first read by this author and definitely won't be the last. OK first of all this book was so freaking good, the flow and storyline was great. The interaction between the band 3UG was freaking hilarious. Eating the wings contest was and is an awesome way to figure out a dispute between the guys. And I think that Trent's mother was the coolest mom ever!! Trent is the lead singer and front man for the band 3Ugly Guys (3UG). He is a manwhore and he loves women. He kind of meets his match when it comets to his opening act in a little blond firecracker. Once he hears her sing, he's a goner. Lexi is a very talented singer and song writer. Gets a chance of a lifetime to be the opening for the group of 3UG. She got it on her own merit and not her famous fathers coattails. Lexi is actually a very complicated individual. She is also good at retaliation too. She rocked that eyebrow incident lol hilarious!! This book had angst, hot sex scenes, fast storyline, laugh out loud moments and was just brilliantly written. Cannot wait for the next book in this series. Thanks Jamie Nibarger Ellis
I really liked this story and although it has some of the same formulas of other Rock Star books the Author is able to create characters that you care about. Three Ugly Guys are on their way up and even though they can't seem to keep a drummer, their manager tells them the label wants them to audition females for the job,the guys balk and compromising agree to a female opener. Lexi Marx can't believe she is getting her break finally and more importantly on her own merit. Travis, TUGs front man and sex addict takes one look at Lexi and knows she's gonna be trouble. I loved Travis, a total manwhore but a momma's boy. His band mates Austin and Sean are also likeable goofballs and Lexi shines as a girl that has hurt her whole life but let's love in with minimal second guessing. Glad everyone in the band will be getting a book, but bummed it won't be until next year
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review
After meeting the Three Ugly Guys band in Kacey Shea's Uncovering Love series, I couldn't wait to get on the bus and go on tour with all of them and experience their life on the road. Kacey soon has readers wrapped up in all their practical jokes, sexual tension, and overall angst. I couldn't help but fall deeper in love with all of these delicious rock stars and develop a girl crush the size of Texas for Lexi. It wasn't long and I was drooling and more than ready for Trent and Lexi to get physical and delve deeper into their emotional psyche.
Trent Donovan has sex appeal and charisma oozing from every pore in his body. He is impossible not to love with his easy charm, wit, and his lip biting muscled frame. It was beyond entertaining watching the rock star playboy not only fall for Lexi but also tear down her walls to see the beauty underneath. He captured my heart with his kindness and ability to make everyone laugh. I was enamored from beginning to end.
Lexi Marx is so complex and real behind that rock star kitten facade that she presents to the world. It was heartbreaking but filled me with nothing but admiration after learning of her past and what she has done to overcome it and succeed so far in the music business. Kacey brought us a damaged heroine who needs to grow by leaps and bounds to not associate her past with her future or else there is no hope for her and Trent to be together.
Kacey Shea delivers us a road trip with some rock star hotties unlike any other. I highly recommend Detour for a fun loving, steamy romance that shows that no matter you past, love can see you through anything and everything. Kacey impresses me more with each new character that she introduces or story that she creates. I cannot wait to get up close and personal with Sean next and indulge in some more musician hotness with all of the guys from 3UG!
Rockstar romances are one of my favorite tropes, especially when done right and Kacey Shea has worked her magic with DETOUR. Trent and Lexie’s story is the perfect blend of drama, angst, and all things delicious, unputdownable romance! Kacey Shea effortlessly weaves passion, plenty of feels, and gives us a hero to drool over and a couple to root for!
Narration was performed by Jason Clarke and Lessa Lamb. I was new to Lessa Lamb, but I thoroughly enjoyed her heartfelt and emotional performance. Jason Clarke brought Trent to life perfectly and honestly, I could just listen to that man speak for days! 5 stars.
I received an advanced readers copy of Detour by Kacey Shea in exchange for my honest review.
This story is a rock star romance. We get to meet the band 3 Ugly Guys, which is actually four guys, but one is an old timer. Trent is the unofficial leader of the group. They are heading out on their first tour where they are the stars. The record label wants a girl for the opening act, in walks Lexi. We learn right away that Lexi's dad is a famous musician, but she doesn't want to use his name to help her career. Lexi is all about her music and is staying away from the hot looking lead singer of 3UG. Trent does everything he can to show Lexi that he's no a man whore, and that he wants her. It is a interesting romance that is sweet and tender but for me seemed unrealistic. These guys and gals are thrown together on a tour bus spending hours together and Trent does seem like a man whore, and it seems impossible to believe that Lexi is going to change his whoreish ways.
Even with this the story is cute, easy to read story. The writing is well done, in Kacey's usual style.

“I’ll make this easy for you. From here on out here’s how it’s going to go. I play. You play. Don’t hit on me. Don’t flirt with me. Understood?”
She holds my stare until her eyes wander, traveling over my body and landing back at my lips much wider than before. I’m no mind reader, but that’s got to mean a part of her wants me, too.
“So, it would be wrong of me to tell you how hot you are right now?”
She growls, a sound that starts low until it explodes into a scream.

This is my first Kacey Shea book, and I was hooked from the first chapter until the last. I don't read/ listen to a lot of rockstar romances, not because I'm against them, they just don't happen to pop up when the mood strikes. I am so glad this book jumped out as I was scrolling my Audible library looking for something to listen to. Kacey Shea has this wonderful way of writing that is just all-encompassing. She pulls you into the story and holds you captive until the very last word, whilst making you feel every emotion she inflicts on her characters. Trent is one of those characters that is elevated to book boyfriend status early on. With his rockstar persona, devilish good looks, cocky attitude and how he treats the important women in his life, it's hard not to be enamoured by him. His heart is what really won me over though. I love Lexi, she could have done things the easy way but wanted to make it on her own, and I loved that about her. She didn't have the easiest past and that is reflected in her actions. She's feisty and doesn't let Trent and the band walk all over her. Once she let's her walls down, she builds such great relationships with all of them. Together they are so good. They have great banter, which I'm a huge fan of. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts and when they finally give in, they're explosive together. Their give and take really worked for me, and when they loved, they loved wholly. The support they have each other and refusal to let the other push them away really gave their relationship that extra awesomeness. Although there are a couple of difficult situations, the book itself isn't angsty and the emotional scenes really worked to enhance the story and the relationship between the couple. The dynamics in the band was fun to experience, and I can't wait to see more of them in the following books and experience their happily ever afters too.
I chose to listen to this book because I was in the mood for some Jason Clarke, and as always, he didn't disappoint. He voiced each member of the band so uniquely that it was easy to discern each one. His female voice is one of the best in the business and is showcased so perfectly in this book. He was the perfect choice to voice Trent, the cocky rockstar vibe was strong, but his heart really shone through too. This was my first experience of listening to Lessa Lamb, and she was fantastic. Her voice is easy to listen to, she is able to differentiate the different characters smoothly and effectively. She was a great choice to voice Lexi, an up and coming rockstar with a difficult past. Jason and Lessa’s voices complemented each other well and the transition from one to the other was smooth. There were a couple of tough moments in this book and they were performed to perfection by both voice actors. Their ability to switch from humour to emotional was beautiful and each was delivered so flawlessly. The production was brilliant with no issues.
If you have read the Uncovering Love series you will remember the band Three Ugly Guys. I received an ARC of this book and am so happy to leave a review for this five star read. If you are a fan of rock romances then this book is definitely one to put on your TBR and one click when it goes live. Trent is the lead singer of 3UG and he drips with sex appeal and a voice that can make any woman weak in the knees. Lexi Marx has been brought on as their support act and this fiery little number wants nothing to do with Trent even though he makes her heart race and butterflies flutter inside her stomach. Their story is one of self discovery and confronting the past. The chemistry between the band members and Lexi is off the charts and this girl can hit back with the smart remarks and one liners just as good as they can. This story will keep you intrigued as you take the journey with Lexi to dealing with her past. Absolute heart warming beautiful love story that will have you falling in love with these characters. Can't wait for the next book in this series.
I loved Detour! I enjoy music and a good rock star romance, and Detour did not disappoint. I devoured it in one sitting!
Trent is a stereotypical rock star: talented, confident, and always looking for a hookup. When he meets Lexi, though, we get to see a different side of him that’s compassionate and funny. I didn’t like him immediately, but he grew on me. Lexi is sassy, no nonsense woman. I really respected her independence and fortitude. Together they made a pretty great team.
The plot was interesting and kept me reading to the end. I smiled often and sniffled a bit, too. It was so well written, and the author handles sensitive topics gracefully.
Detour is the first book in the Off Track Records series, but my second book by Kacey Shea. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series, and I can’t wait for Sean’s story!
Great book. You instantly fall in love with Trent, despite 5he first couple chapters. Lexi is a strong woman with past issues. Love that Trent knows what he wants and doesn't play games. Love his calm demeanor and patience towards Lexi. Can't wait to read the next book
This is by far my absolute favorite book yet from Kacey Shea. There are so many "feels" in this book. I love the story line and all the characters. I can't wait for more Three Ugly Guys.
Trent is one big manwhore. But one time hearing Lexi sing and he is wrapped up in her. These two have such a sweet story that is a slow burn until they explode and combust. I couldnt get enough. The guys banter is funny and the things Lexi does to get even is so hilarious. Great story.
This is a start to a great series. Loved every moment of it. Kacey wrote a edgy Rock story . Both hero and heroine are strong characters that are perfect for each other. Lexi has had a hard life and she has her walls up , so it seems until Trent slowly cracks her walls . Once Trent gets in Lexi tells him about her life with her Rock Father. Grab it and see how they both save each other and how their hearts were saved Lexi herself gets a surprise that she never expected
Jason Clarke, Lessa Lamb were great They brought the story to life . First time I heard Lessa but it won’t be my last
I met this author at the Shameless convention and grabbed her books. I'm glad I did. I enjoyed this book, I love me some rockstar romances for some reason, I loved the dynamics of the characters, between the band, between the two main characters, I liked being on the tour bus and on tour and on stage with them, and it was pretty well written, im looking forward to reading the next one!
