"More passion isn't the answer, and bigger dreams aren't always the solution. Every leader is asking two How can we grow? How can we grow faster? The only way organizations can grow bigger and move faster is by accelerating the excellence of their systems and structures."

—from Bigger Faster Lessons from the Builders of the Panama Canal

I found lots to like with this leadership book. It fed my interest in history and showed practical examples of principles that he espoused. The discussions on accountability, interactions between systems and people (and the importance of both), diversity not as a demographic issue but a diversity of thought were all excellent. Poor people performance prevents prosperity.

This book started great, slowed way down in the middle, and picked up at the end. Overall an OK book. Great history but most came from the main McCullough book on the Canal. I wonder if the author took more than that initial trip to Panama? Some points were a stretch to tie the history in. Overall, a great book touching on for profit, non profit, and church work. Some great one liners, good ideas on employee development and engagement. I do not think I will read this book again though or any of his others.

Inspirational and Pratical

The stories told in this book are truly inspiring, and the lessons learnt are pratical. Not a book of theories.

Sam Chand really made it clear and simple for us to glean from such a complex project.

Primeras impresiones

Sam Chand is a know leader in the field of structures and systems for leaders. Yet, in the book Bigger Faster Leadership he has taken us on the journey with him to discovering great truths about how we can improve our ministries and organizations by putting in place the systems and structures that will catapult us from where we are to where we dream of being. This goes beyond who's holding the ladder to the why's and how's of getting things done. Each chapter is filled with the insightful questions that must be answered so that we are thinking about the process in the right light. He takes ideas from Jim Collins a step further than even Collins might have imagined. This book is for any leader who is hoping to tap into that level of excellence.

Very church centered. Not a bad thing. I thought there were plenty of great principles scattered through the book. I got some great ideas I will implement: a leadership development program, taking a more collaborating approach to the 'how' of accomplishing goals, and more intensely focusing on the need I am filling in my market.

It read much like a novel, a historical recap of the panama canal and the great leadership effort it took to achieve it, rather than a set of principles that could be implemented anywhere supported by the great wonder. Which is what I bought.

4.5 stars rounded up. If I could wave the magic wand, it would have a very clear set of implementation items at the end of each chapter.

spectacular. I loved learning about the Panama Canal but quite frankly I'm not sure if it had too much to do with contents of the book. the leadership commentary was very good but not exceptional. The book's overwhelming strength is the set of questions at the end of every chapter. Any leader can lead his or her group through reading the book and answering the questions. these questions are really hard. The book makes them easy and accessible.
