This a sort of companion piece to the "Castles" I also book I also read and reviewed, except it's about (you guessed it) pyramids. It has the same sorts of virtues as the other book (great nonfiction mentor text due to the abundant examples of nonfiction text features, interesting historical topic, etc.) but where I think it even improves on its companion is how it also looks at pyramids around the world (though, admittedly, it focuses on the most famous pyramids, the ones in Egypt). In general, I love books that help you learn about different parts of the world, and this is a good example of such a book.

Pyramids is a wonderful informational text filled with with the history of pyramids throughout centuries and cultures from around the world. The book contains illustrations and diagrams of the infrastructure and floor plans of each pyramid while still explaining the cultural importance or explanation of each sector. The book covers the building process, design, and its cultural significance of the egyptians, mayans, aztecs, nubian, modern civilizations, and many more. The contains an index and glossary that would be beneficial to the students reading this book or using it as a source for a project. The book’s pictures and footnotes include food, clothes, traditions, tools, and environmental facts that are key to understanding and painting the entire picture of the culture creating a pyramid.

This book would be create for connection common core standards of literacy to essential standards in social studies. This book could be used to create great talk to the text and small group talk as students compare and contrast pyramids from different cultures and the culture’s possible motivations for these differences in architecture or purpose using evidence provided from the book. Also, this book could be used to create a cross discipline STEM activity of constructing a pyramid after discussing the book thoroughly and creating great talk and linking it to social studies standards.

This book discusses the pyramids of ancient Egypt along with the culture that embodies Egyptians. It talks about different kinds of jobs, transportation, religions, and how they built the pyramids. The book describes different kinds of pyramids and what they mean and how they came about in the Egyptian culture.

the classroom use for this book is immense. It talks about the culture of Egyptian people and goes farther than just showing a couple pictures of the pyramids structure. It goes in depth on how they were built and what they were used for.
