#1 up-and-coming Author in Fantasy Romance!

Ruth Anne Scott was born and raised in the Shire of Middle America (otherwise known as Telluride, CO) and spend her childhood hiking, sightseeing, and exploring the wilderness around. As a young dreamer and creator her favorite pastime was and still is to sit on the moss covered banks of San Miguel river to write and create her fantasy worlds.

As a postgraduate she spent much of her adult life working at Amnesty International, doing research into women's rights abuses around the world. Ruth continued to write fantasy as a means to escape the harsh realities of the world around her.

This is the reason Ruth likes to incorporate strong and savvy women in her fantasy works.

The boring part: Now a full time author and artist, Ruth can usually be found hunched over a keyboard or tablet, frantically trying to get the images and words in her head out and onto the screen before they drive her mad. She's addicted to coffee and can be found at the local coffee shops. :)

I was greatly disappointed. . .

Strong dominate women. Yes!!!! But to have a entire race of women that only held submissive men close was a major turn off and then some. This was a read that did not feel right to me. I was disappointed with some of the dialogue the mouthy male child, the over something male, the mix of so much but not really giving me enough.

This book was *ghastly*. The premise started out interesting, and I initially liked the idea of "how will two cultures get along, esp. when one is matriarchal and the other patriarchal?" But at 4% of the book, we get a sex scene instead of character or plot development, and it might be the least sexy sex I've ever had the misfortune to read. Don't believe me? Here are some direct quotes.

"his tongue slithered into her mouth"
"a gush of passion bubbling from her font"
"her crotch ached for his touch"
"he jammed his hands all the way down to her crack and found the bubbling mixture of her c**t lying engorged"
"She rubbed her flaming core against his crotch"
"She had to destroy herself on his c**k."
"He found the glorious pathway to her verdant garden."
"sparkling delight gushed around his member"
"he pounded his c**k into her fissure"
"Every slithering course of his p**k into her moist cavern brought fresh ripples of delectable delight flowing from her c**t."
"his molten lava filled her to the brim"

And the line that broke me: "The slippery syrup led him home to the burning doorway underneath."

I'll wait patiently until you stop laughing. Ok, done? Awesome.

Then there's the issue of how this medical doctor and leader of their exploratory team has some sort of raging-but-heretofore-unrealized non-con fetish because *the moment* Rohn gets bossy, here's her internal monologue:

"she couldn't fight her own body. Her raving need betrayed her into his hands" (this is within 30 seconds of their first kiss)
"she had to obey" (why? so far he's just being demanding, not forcing her in any way)
"she could find no safety from what scared her except in him. She could only impale herself on him and destroy her fear in the black pool of her own ravenous desire" (*no* safety from what scared her? I'm no expert but there's gotta be an alternative to anxiety disorder besides alien dick)
"What would he do to her? She no longer cared. Whatever he did, whatever he desired of her, she wanted." (just...ugh)

Basically, this book reads as if it were written by some dude who's bitter because he's weak and gets bossed around by his girlfriend/wife, so he writes stories where those uppity, wrong-minded wimmen become enslaved to their maddening desire for "real" men, because his definition of "real men" is apparently unwittingly hilarious attitudes/phrases like the following:

"Do you need a man to make you cry? Do you need a man's hard p***k to give you what you want?" (LOL)
"I'm gonna nail you harder than you've ever been nailed in your life, baby." (LOLOL)

Keep in mind that these two met an hour earlier. That is a masterful use of colloquial modern speak for a caveman dude who was speaking all formal- and archaic-like... until the sexin' began.

Oh, and there are grammatical errors sprinkled throughout, like a dusting of powdered sugar on a donut made of poo 💩, except the powder is cyanide instead of sugar. Save yourself the mental trauma and do not read this book.

I read the Dragon book and a few other books included in this and I have to say I do not like her inconsistent writing style. Her dialogue is switching from Modern colloquialisms to an formal stoic speech. Back and forth with this character and it doesn't make sense. Why would the character say that, when they really wouldn't. And in her Dragon book her main female character goes from being strong independent woman to a blubbering idiot when she had sex. She lets the men in her life treat her like cow dung and the women in our life walk all over her. She goes from a leader/commander to TSTL (Too stupid to live). I've read a few other books from Ruth they have a lot of potential to be better books but as of right now I don't like them.

Rose Cooper, a doctor in the Allied Command, watched the rocket shuttle take off from the planet; then she saw a dragon come out of hiding and stare at her sister and her. Allied Command had never mentioned dragons were here? But when the 4 tall men walked toward them, she forgot all about the dragon. Rose’s team was here to study the life and culture of this planet’s inhabitants. She saw an older and a younger woman hang back in a doorway – this was unusual since, among the Allies, most women took charge rather than men. But as the men approached, she observed shifting patterns moving under their skin, giving each a different hue, which identified them as non-human. The clan patriarch, Rowen, introduced himself and, after introductions to Rose’s team, introduced his clan members. Then the team members were shown to their rooms.

At meal time, the team did not know what to do. Rose finally took a seat at the table and ate; then her team did the same. She tried to ask questions, but not many were answered to her satisfaction.

Rose was called to the woods because Moira, a crew member who had been missing, was injured. But Moira was gone when she got there. She got lost heading back and Rohn came to find her. As they were talking, the dragon flew down and grabbed Rose, then took off to its mountain. Why did the dragon take her? Would she survive? Would Rohn be able to save her?

This was very different from the usual alien or dragon book I have read. The author builds the mystery and suspense for the reader as the team adjusts to the strange planet they would call home for the next year. The characters are well described. There were a few things I didn’t like about Rose because they didn’t make sense that her character would behave a certain way. But in general, the story was a good one. I definitely recommend it.

I thought I learned the first time but I guess I should have paid better attention. Sure the synopsis sounds interesting enough and the first pages aren’t too bad. But then I start getting into the plot and character and realize I have bought literary garbage. That sounds harsh but I am pretty sure the author found an entire book filled with innuendoes and tried to see how many she could shove into one novel. I don’t mind genitals being called something other than their medical terminology but when an author calls the hero’s semen “steamy potion” I can hardly contain myself, or force myself to read more. I am surprised she didn’t flat out call it baby gravy.

I wish that were my only complaint. But the characters and plot are a mess. I thought the heroine had dissociative identity disorder with how quickly she changed personalities. I am not even exaggerating.

On top of that, the story described in the synopsis is only the first like 20% of the book. The rest is other stories. Normally, that would seem like a bonus but with how terrible this story is to begin with, it was more like torture (that I refuse to put myself through.)

I wish I had nicer words but this is the second time I have read this author, and I am convinced now more than ever that the author would be more suited to writing cheesy plotlines for porn that no one watches it for the plot.

There's nothing more discouraging than a heroine ranting about getting herself some "real man". The gender politics in this story are skewed waayyy to the left: How can this writer present the heroine as a dominant woman then turn around and present her as a woman who only wants to be dominated? Rose totally rags on men of her own kind. But what's wrong with a man asking a woman is she wants to be touched by him instead of being presumptuous and constantly taking control or objectifying her?

The stuff Rohn says to Rose the first time they have sex is pathetic and seems counter to his character's initial style of dialogue; more like something an immature biker boy wannabe says. It was like ALL OF A SUDDEN, bam, modern colloquialisms. The purple prose Scott uses makes me want to hurl, feeling so queasy with disappointment and disgust. Not to mention the early dialogue being an endless rattling off of questions, very few of which are openly answered by the Kratak. The author's descriptive powers also leave something to be desired.

Quick world building read that launches a series

This is one of those stories that I am glad was clearly labeled book 1, as that set my expectations going in -- heavy on the world building, and arc launching as we discover, most likely through two characters ( Rose and Rohn delivered) what this Universe has in store for us.

Rose and her team from the Allies have come to Kratak as part of a scientific mission to learn about the locals and whether or not they might be a good addition to the Alliance. John and his people know enough about the Allies and their Alliance to know they aren't interested, what they don't know is how to gracefully, and successfully decline an invitation.

What evolves is a story in which two groups of people are trying to open the other groups eyes to the truth as they know it, have experienced it, and feel they have lived it... but somewhere along the line, people begin to realize a single individuals experience rarely captures every detail and every fact.

Rose and Rohn

I liked the premise of the story and what happened throughout. What I had a problem with was some of the wording in the sex scenes. I felt like I was reading a bad 70's porno. Things like; "her wet nest, her tangled forest below, his rock hard tool, his hammer, her boiling inferno, the garden between her legs, her secret curtains". These are just a few that I remember. I skipped some of the sex scenes because I was laughing too hard and couldn't take anymore.
I will try to read the next book because I am interested to see what happens with the invading Allies. Also wondering if the women will some how turn to dragons too. Maybe through pregnancy or maybe from having the secretions on their bodies through sex or even just from living on the planet since everything seems to rotate around nature. I think I will skip the sex scenes though.

Liked the story line

I had never thought that it would be so easy to invade a country or planet just by being "curious" about another species. This book opened my eyes to how easy and destructive it would be for anyone to take over.

The characters were believable and easy to like. The eldest son was a bit off putting and was somewhat a distraction. Over all I enjoyed reading the story and hope others enjoy it as well.

Though what bothers me the most is the errors of editing and spelling. It is tedious to reread a sentence over for the right word or structure. Being dyslexic is hard enough and having to keep going over something is wasting my time of enjoying a good story line.

Great beginning to a new alien dragon series. The Allies are group of planets that are supposed to better all. They send a group of scientists to check out a new planet. But the natives really want nothing to do with the Allies, but will still be friendly to their visitors. Rose is the leader of the group and sparks will fly with her and Rohn. Who is the more dominant? A little action and some very hot scenes. Don't want to ruin the story but if you like alien romances then you will enjoy this book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

Rohn is the first book in Ruth Anne Scott's new Dragons of Kratak series and it certainly starts off with a bang. I enjoyed the connection between Rose and Rohn. Great premise of a woman who is used to weak spineless men attracted to someone worthy of being an equal partner in and out of the bedroom.

Rose did change sides a bit too quickly considering her numerous arguments to the contrary but I'm glad to see she finally comes to terms about the Allies. I cannot wait to see how this all plays out.

Did not finish.
World building and characters was good.
I just couldn't get into the story.
Too relationship was too rushed. Seemed forced instead of flowing into two people who were attracted to each other.
I quit during the first sex scene which is highly unusual for me.
You may like it.

Very interesting, impressive and intriguing story. After 1st few pages it held my attention to the end. The additional stories kept the same tale going. Ms Scott has done it again. Amazing smooth writing and believable characters.

Uhg, too much.

This author can’t make up her mind if she wants to be raunchy or flowery. Either way, I can’t stomach anymore.
