The compelling debut of author Jaci Miller and the first in an exciting fantasy trilogy, The Scrying is a dark, romantic tale of perseverance and self-sacrifice where one destiny is defined by both a forgotten past and the fate of the future.
A modern witch, an ancient warrior, two worlds about to collide.
Dane Watts-Callan’s destiny has always been complicated, she has been a witch living in a modern world since her “awakening” at thirteen. Now on her thirty-first birthday an ancient family legacy is revealed—a birthright written in a time before man, in a world silenced by a haunting past. Searching for answers she journeys to the magical realm of her ancestors where she is confronted by the only person that still exists on this archaic world.
Rafe Morrighann, is an ancient immortal warrior whose destiny has left him waiting for billions of centuries for the prophecy to pass. When Dane appears in his world he knows the evil that decimated the ancient realms is about to rise again. As they work together to uncover the secrets of the prophecy and unlock the power of the ancient magic, he realizes that his destiny is intertwined with her own, igniting an attraction that neither can control nor escape.
Dane must rely on the power and knowledge of her birthright, before the evil of the past is unleashed and the modern world is plunged into an ancient hell, for a dark destiny is rising.
Jaci Miller was born in Ontario, Canada and moved to the United States at 34 when she married her husband. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in History from the University of Phoenix, developing her writing skills in multiple creative writing classes. During her studies The Scrying Trilogy evolved, beginning with a story board that claimed one of her basement walls for over a year.
Jaci is the author of The Scrying Trilogy, a dark contemporary portal fantasy and The Dark Kingdom trilogy, an epic romantic adventure fantasy.
She currently resides in Florida with her husband and their tuxedo cat, Draco.
The Scrying Trilogy Book 1 by Jaci Miller is a very well-written and thoughtful book. A writer with their writing easily drawn into his imaginative imaginary world, which in some parts of the book is fascinating. My only complaint is that I miss a little bit more action, which would make us readers to read the book faster and do not drop it out of hand. But I'm convinced that the action will be much more in the following book in serial because this book seems to me as a prologue in the rest of the sequels. Regardless of my comments, the book is very good that fantasy lovers could love. The characters are very well profiled and the world in which the part of the action is taking is fantastically described. The writer's imagination is unquestionable because she introduces us to the world of secrets and hidden worlds. The book's descriptions are well-made, and the characters are well-profiled. Now a little bit about the story. The main character in the book is Dane who just needs to celebrate her thirty-first birthday. Although she looks like an ordinary girl she is actually a witch and her family relieves her roots far into the past. But she lives a normal life and enjoys with your friends who do not know her secret. Unfortunately, her love life is not at its peak because she has not yet found a soulful soul. In Dane thirty-first, years should be an awakening of some new powers, but she not gives too much attention. Her friends and Dane celebrate her birthday next to the big oak tree in the woods that make them mystical. Her thinking after that birthday will completely change and she will soon be in a whirl of events she will no longer be able to influence. I liked the book and would love to read the next sequel of the series. I would recommend the book to all fans of fantasy genres.
After a bit of a slow start with the first few chapters of the book, an entertaining and captivating story emerged, leaving me anticipating book two of this delightful new fantasy adventure trilogy.
Although this was a genre I don't generally read and have not picked up anything in the genre for quite some time it is not because I dislike the genre. I really enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to the rest of the trilogy having finished this one. I can't really say too much else for fear of spoiling it for others. Let's just say this does leave you wanting more and I will leave it at that. The story has been well thought out and that becomes apparent the closer to the end of this first book you come. Absolutely no question there is much more to be said and done with this bunch of characters. It makes you start to wonder how all of these characters introduced at the beginning of the book are somehow going to meld into the story. How it is they will intertwine themselves and yet does not give you too many answers- more questions than anything fully opening the door to the rest of the trilogy. It does definitely keep you engaged. It did leave me with a question for the author to explain though. Where did the lamb come from? I guess if you want to know what it is I am referring to, well-you'll just have to read the book. An enjoyable and fun read I would definitely recommend.
Heavy on prophecy and destiny, this fantasy novel incorporates witches and magic into an epic tale of survival and destiny, saving the world from ancient evil. I tend to really enjoy these types of stories as a fan of fantasy and the paranormal so this book was one that I would recommend for those who like an intense and descriptive book with a lot of backstory. Although I did feel it was a little slow in the beginning, most of the first half of the book is a steady build that comes together in the end.
So that was my assessment of the first half of the book...and then I met Rafe. Ok, now THAT was where my interest in this book took on a whole new level. Wish we would have met him a LOT sooner. I was intrigued by his character from the start and the author did a FANTASTIC job of describing him and pulling you in from that moment on. The attraction and chemistry between Rafe and Dane was the best part of the book for me but I'm partial to soulmates, bonds, and binding love.
One of the strengths of this book are the descriptions which are detailed and unique, especially when covering the different realms, creatures, and species like fae and celestials. If you like epic fantasy and some romance thrown in, this is the book for you. Overall, I was happy to read this story and look forward to more from this author.
Characters: 5/5 Plot: 4/5 World Building: 4/5 Story Flow: 3.5/5
The Scrying is an enthralling and adventurous read that will take you on an enchanted journey. With multiple characters and worlds the author keeps each interesting, complex and exciting, yet different in their own way.
She is talented in the way she is able draw you in with her descriptions of these beautiful and strange worlds with secrets you want to uncover and vibrant colors you're sure you can see as if you were right there.
She captivates you when describing how a character is feeling, as if you are standing right next to them, feeling every emotion, vibration, hesitation and desire they have.
I hope your family is ready to fend for themselves because this book is so captivating and addictive, you won't want to put it down.
The Scrying, by Jaci Miller, is a romantic fantasy with a strong female protagonist at its heart. Dane, a single, 30 year old career woman - has an intriguing secret that she has long hidden from her small group of friends - she is a witch. And not just any witch, but one that comes from a long line of talented witches and wizards called the Callathians.
On her 31st birthday, Dane experiences a second awakening, which gives her unexpected new powers and begins to lead her to her destiny. Woven within Dane’s destiny and the complex history of her ancestors is a rich history of witchcraft, paganism - and Celtic mythology - all of which add to the magic of the story. While the beginning chapters of the story firmly ground readers in the contemporary world that Dane lives in, they are also imbued with the mystery and magic of what is to come when she enters a portal into the Five Realms - the parallel universe where powerful witches and wizards once prospered.
Dane enters the Realms after having accepted her destiny as leader of the Arcanists, a group of witch & wizard descendants who are on a quest to defeat the Second Rising of the ancient, evil darkness that threatens the magical universe. Her first challenge, however, is to find out who the other Arcanists are. She must do so in order to save not only the Five Realms but also Earth itself (they are linked through a creation story); for her parents and friends to survive both worlds need to exist.
A story that takes its time to unfold, with detailed writing and complex world-building, The Scrying begins at slow pace. But it’s at the half-way point that Dane enters the Realms, and finds the ancient city of Arcadium - that the story’s pace begins to quicken. It’s also at this point that fantasy leans in to passion - when Dane meets the sexy ancient Celtic warrior Rafe. The blending of two strong, magical characters with shadowed pasts provides a strong current forward - and will likely hook readers in for the second half of this adventure.
The Scrying held me from the beginning with its intriguing mystery and history of witchcraft - but kept me turnings the pages late at night with its romance. A story that is rich in detail that will delight both fantasy and romance fans, I look forward to reading the next book in this magical series.
Beautifully woven myth. Fantastic worlds. Magic, warriors and witches. Romance and action. This book has it all. I was drawn in instantly and felt a deep connection with Dane the heroine. The rich mythology that went into this story made it easy to feel like I was a part of a different reality, slipping away from ordinary into the extraordinary.
The plot is well thought out and intricate, with a lot of moving parts, some answered in this part and others left to fill in as the trilogy continues. There was enough action amid the world building to propel the story forward, keeping me glued to the screen.
As I said, I felt a connection with Dane, and enjoyed watching her grow into the hefty roll thrust onto her. She is strong heroine, a warrior, yet still feminine. That duality made the romance work magically. In addition to Dane there were several characters that I loved/look forward to getting to know better in future installments. Sebastian and Rafe, as well as Dane’s human friends.
I’m very excited to see where this goes in the next two parts.
The Scying, by Jaci Miller captivated my attention from the first chapter. With a combination of friendship, family bonds, romance and the paranormal, the story had all the elements of an interesting story. More than that though, Miller created an entire alternate realm so imaginative and descriptive that I was in awe of her imagination and attention to detail. The folklore, legends and prophecies were magically intricate and each bit of knowledge unearthed by the main characters, Dane and Rafe, had me reading late into the night, thirsting for more of what these two would discover. So much of the story was spent in the other realm that I began to miss Dane’s best friends, Gabby and Stevie. But in the end it was made clear that they would become a vital part of Dane’s endeavor to complete her destiny. I am anxiously awaiting the publication of Book Two of The Scrying Trilogy: The Hallowed.
‘The house was quiet and as her birthday ended, she felt an overwhelming sadness as she realized that her secret desire to one day inherit the ancient mythical powers of her father’s ancestors was just a silly childhood fantasy.’
Dane is a witch. the child of two powerful witch families. She is turning 31 and she is really irritated that her relationship with her twelve best friends has to be based on a lie - as she can’t tell them she is a witch. Also being a witch means she can’t have a long term emotional relationship, because how could she when she can’t tell the guy she’s a witch? Then at the girl’s night party to celebrate her birthday everything changes…
This is a sexy romance with supernatural features and magic thrown in. Destiny comes knocking and sweeps Dane off to another world - quite literally. Sent on a quest by the ancient immortal Sebastian to retrieve items she needs to secure her birthright and embrace her own pending immortality.
“Tomorrow is going to be trying, a day of sacrifice that will change your life and who you are forever, putting you on a path toward a destiny that cannot be stopped once it begins.”
The characters are all well painted. The writing is fine, with some good moments that serve to lift the whole. It has some really good dialogue and the way the characters get along with each other feels very natural. If you are a reader who needs a sense of completion, be aware there is no real end, but that is not really unexpected as it is clearly the start of a much longer story.
This is a book with an imaginative take on the hoary theme of ‘a witch comes into her powers and…’ Dane is not just going to be immortal she is also going to be the leading Arcanist - a magical warrior in the forthcoming Second Rising war against the ancient dark. However, as Dane knows nothing about this complex history and the alternative world, we do get a lot of exposition which is pace killing. Things do get a bit more underway once she crosses into Dywen and meets Rafe, but even there we get another hefty dose or two of information to absorb.
‘She was very attracted to Rafe and obviously, she enjoyed his company, but binding, that sounded so permanent. She didn’t do permanent!.’
For me the main problem with this book is it feels like a classic YA story given an adult makeover. There is a Chosen One - but there is sex in it. Although I found Dane engaging, there were no real surprises, the end reveal was kind of seen a lot before it came. Once past the exposition - the main interest was in how the story was going play out rather than any sense of excitement about the character or the plot. Maybe in the next book the story takes flight and all will be exciting - but this one kind of missed that mark. To me it has the feel of a long prologue.
But I did quite enjoy the read, it would have been 3.5 for me on the star scale, but half-stars are not allowed so I rounded up.
If you are looking for something to take you a step beyond YA and into more adult fantasy, this would be an excellent choice of book to read and it has tremendous potential for future books in the series.
This was a paranormal fantasy story revolving around a witch, Dane, who has to keep her witchy life separate from her friends.
There were a lot of points about this book that I liked. I liked the mystery around the red haired woman. I liked all of Danes friends and how they interacted together. The beginning had little action and a lot of background for the characters, so it might be hard to get into.
There is a sex scene. Which felt like it was part of a different series almost. There wasn't much of a focus on romance in this. Just another instalove and their fates are intertwined or whatever.
But the lore was interesting. So I'll probably pick up the next book in the series
The Scrying is a fantasy novel that does a wonderful job of incorporating magic into our mundane world. The main character is a good witch who is born into a family of magic-users here on Earth. Miller is skilled at detailing relationships and one of my favorite parts of the book was her artful descriptions of the camaraderie between Dane and her girlfriends. After her awakening, supernatural elements take center stage as Dane travels to another world. I enjoyed the Earthly elements better than her extraordinary trip, but this where the author shows her talents both at world-building and steamy romance. I enjoyed the read and will definitely tune in for the next two editions.
It must feel very lonely being a witch, but can’t tell your best friends. Dane Watts-Callan is confident, but not pushy; my favorite female character. The author’s cadence, or sense of rhythm and pace was excellent. It flowed beautifully from Dane finding out who she really is, about her destiny, and that new man in her life - wow!
Well this started out well then fizzled at the end. This book was used to set up the character more then anything. After so long in the book you just wanted the story line to move. I feel almost cheated as the start really gripped me. I might read the next one to see if the story line moves more.
The Scrying- My first thought is that an author should never use a made-up word in the title of a book. But then I found out the word is an actual word. I’ll have to adjust fire on the review. It refers to the power of the sub-conscious mind. I stand corrected. Turns out our heroine, Dane, is a witch. She has five friends—might they also be witches, inquiring minds want to know, but that’s for the reader to find out. Dane lives in an alternative universe, where station attendants still pump your gas (J/K). I don't see a purpose for a lot of the exposition, and there is way too much of it. To me, the dialogue could have covered all the details, and it would have been much more interesting. A point about both exposition and dialogue: If it doesn't add to the story, why include it? The story should be honed, like a sculpture. Case in point is the author sharing that her dog moved from the middle to the foot of the bed. Why should the reader care? There's a pending storm--I know this because it's repeated over and over from various characters. I'm starting to think this storm might be a significant plot device. The villain becomes known--a red-haired woman with leather pants walks into the Magic Shop her friend runs. There is an old flour mill that is surrounded by spectral energy that seems to be significant. We find out sometime later that the mill's energy is wrong, mostly because that's repeated over and over. There is also a magic tree. As far as adjectives go, less is more. She describes the renovation of a cabin in minutiae detail and then concludes with three adjectives describing the place; there is no need to do so as the reader has already reached this conclusion. There are inconsistencies in the narrative that a good edit would clean up--like the fact that nine to twenty-six inches of snow would cover fallen leaves. The names of the characters amuses me; Kai, Dane, Diego, Marlee, etc. the book is definitely written from a female perspective for other females to read, so all the aura stuff is lost on me. Still, if you're into the whole Witches and Warlock scene, you might like it, and if so, give it a read.
The Scrying (The Scrying Trilogy, Book One) by Jaci Miller was a engaging read that had by hooked form start to finished.
By first book by this author I was not let down in regards to rich detail and solid world building. I love fantasy books, I love getting lost in their magical worlds. The Scrying was everything I love about reading, and getting lost. Beautifully written, I was easily sucked in and I didn't want to leave.
I will say that there was some slow spots, but I didn't mind too much, but there was bit too much down time between the action. I find that if you have to much a lulls between action, or major plots points, the reader gets uninterested and, it's at those times you're pulled out of the story. But the reason why I didn't mind too much, is because this first book read like a set up for the books to follow. And, if you have been following my reviews, you know that I have mentioned this before, that this something that's becoming the norm. But this book is a set above the others, as I said there is plenty of actions to keep you engaged, and you do feel at times like it could be a stand-a-longe.
The actually story was unique, and different enough that I was loving the development, even if there were some normal fantasy tropes. They way that this story was tackles really got me invested in this series and where it's going. This is a series to watch out for. Not only is the writing easy to follow it's a treat to the eyes. The characters are well rounded and enjoyable to read. I didn't get annoyed by our MC's, (okay not much), I felt myself connect and really enjoy reading about them. I felt like I was apart of the story just as much as they.
If you haven't gusseted this book is a super high recommendation from me. As I said it is something to watch out for, and I believe this series if going to be freaking epic.
The Scrying (The Scrying Trilogy Book 1) By: Jaci Miller 5 out of 5 stars
The story The Scrying (The Scrying Trilogy Book 1) by Jaci Miller is a mythology/fantasy book. It is a story that I loved reading. It is a book that had me turning pages and wondering what was going to happen next. I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the ending. There is plenty of mystery, danger, and romance. I also loved the attention to detail that is given in this book. When reading about the realm that one of the main characters Dane travels to there is so much detail that I felt like I was walking along with her seeing what she was. There is also information given about Dane’s family line and the prophecy that has been foretold. This story shows how Dane comes to find out this information on her family legacy and the part that she is to play in it. Dane is a woman who doesn’t hesitate when she learns what she must accomplish. She is strong and independent. She also is a woman that because she is a modern witch has led a life that has her guarding her heart and keeping who she is a secret. Now she finds herself in a magical realm with an immortal warrior. They are both working together. They are also finding they have an intense attraction/connection to one another. Read this story to find out if Dane along with Rafe will complete the tasks she has been assigned and if they act on their attraction to each other. This book has many other characters that you are introduced to and I enjoyed reading about. This is the first story in a series that I found well-written with wonderful characters. I look forward to reading the next book to find out where the storyline takes the characters.
The Scrying is book 1 in a new trilogy from author Jaci Miller. This is a brilliant captivating and intriguing read that will keep you hooked till the end. This author has created a brilliant and interesting story line with amazing characters that make you want to follow their journey. Also this author has created such an imaginative world, that while reading you can mentally visualise the scenery, the characters and everything about this book.
This read is a great high fantasy read but also with the twist of romance. It has friendship, family, magic, paranormal. Making it everything that I love in a good read!
I love that we feel like we are learning along with Dane our female main character. Understanding new things and learning new things about her powers and her destiny along with her. Finally coming into her own Dane ventures into a new world where a group of witch and wizards are trying to stop the evil that is threatening not only their land but earth aswell. Let’s not forgot that along this journey Dane meets Celtic warrior Rafe, this is where things get really real, these two connect immediately they have chemistry and an undeniable attraction but working together could complicate things. Will they be able to face the evil that is threatening the worlds and work together? Will they take their relationships to the next level?
This is one book that writing to much will give away the major parts of the plot, so everyone who gets a chance to read this be prepared for a journey like no other and to be captivated with this read.
The Scrying is the first book in The Scrying Trilogy. This book ends in a cliffhanger so be prepared for that.
I like the way the author has used both modern and ancient worlds to create a contrast. Both worlds are reliant on each other to survive. I enjoyed the idea of another Universe that existed before humanity and the author’s interpretation of humanity’s creation in this story.
What is it like to be a witch in a world full of non-magical people? Lonely, that what. Dane is under strict orders from the powers that be that she is never to reveal magic to humans. Unfortunately, this means that she is never truly connecting to people and can’t keep a romantic relationship or many friendships.
As her 31st birthday approaches, Dane uncovers the true heritage of her family and what is required of her. As the reality of her responsibility settles onto her shoulders, she realizes that she is going to have to distance herself even further from the few people she does have in her life. But does she really have a choice? Saving the world is a huge deal.
Rafe has been the sole occupant on a world frozen in time. He’s been waiting for the one the prophecy spoke about. The only trouble is, when she does arrive, it will mean that the end of everything is drawing close. After surviving the first great war in his Universe, is Rafe ready to help Dane fight another one?
As Dane and Rafe take the first steps toward Dane’s destiny, they find out that Rafe has an unexpected destiny as well.
The Scrying is the first novel in the Scrying series by Jaci Miller. This is my first novel by this author.
Dane Watts-Callan has been a witch ever since she was 13. Now that she is 31, she is going to start learning about the family legacy.
“The vision had ended with the image of a young woman, standing atop a magnificent waterfall. Her long dark hair flowing lazily behind her, piercing green eyes staring vacantly. She had held a familiarity, a sense she was somehow a part of him, but he had not known who she would be until now.”
Rafe Morrigham, an ancient warrior who been waiting for the prophecy to pass.
“His green eyes glazed as he thought back to that day in Braemore Woods forty-three years ago. A day, which had begun his obsessive search for answers and fueled an unyielding desire to uncover the truth behind his family’s legacy. He had seen the Elder Oak in his dreams weeks before he ventured into the forest to find it. It had beckoned to him, a silent shadowy figure in a moon-filled night.”
An attraction starts to form between the two. With Dane’s appearance, he knows an evil is about to rise. Will he be able to stop it?
I really enjoyed this novel. It had all the elements that kept me hooked. Great works building, interesting characters, engaging plot, memorable scenes.
It did some time to get me into the story but I enjoyed reading about Rafe’s background.
a great read about destiny. Dane I'd a witch from the Callan clan living in New York with her friends. when stsnge events occur around her thirty first birthday, her world is turned upside down with a new destiny. as she finds there is more to the world than she knew, she goes on a journey of adventure and destiny. will she be able to fulfil the destiny? a great read. well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn't put down. well developed characters like Dane trying to live her life but still struggling to conceal it all from her friends or her mother and father as loving parents. great supporting cast of fun friends like Stevie or Kai. an excellent example of worldbuilding with different kinds of magic, witches, warlocks, spirits, potions and fortune telling. the mix of fantasy with spells and magicand the real world of cars and jobs in the big city was written to perfection. the sense of history and heritage behind the magic like the Celtic druids in respect to the myths I also loved the visual detail throughout the novel like the trees and nature or snow or the emptiness of the old flour mill giving it more sense of bleakness and contrasting with the nature in the novel. Or the small details in the medallions which were beautifully done. overall a brilliant read and I would give it five stars.
I give The Scrying (The Scrying Trilogy Book 1) by Jaci Miller, 5 stars.
Dane is a modern witch in hiding. By law, she is not allowed to tell anyone about what she is. This makes it harder every year on her. She has 5 best friends, but even they don't know. She feels like she is living a lie. Soon her life will become more complicated. A prophecy has been written long ago, and it seems like it may just be about her. Part of her feels like she was meant for more, and this is exactly what she was meant for. But she is not even allowed to tell her parents, whom is she so close to. Can she live with more lies? If she accepts, what will be the costs?
This is a wonderful book. I was quickly immersed in the story and could not put the book down. I enjoyed Dane. She is a very realistic character. She just wants to be close to her friends and perhaps have a man in her life, but it is not possible.
The story is something similar to those I have read before, but still different enough that I was not feeling repetition. The style of writing and the events themselves drew me in and I was wrapped in the story, feeling like a part of the book. Not to mention the Celtic angle, which made me even more drawn in. I cannot wait to see where the next book will take us.
I highly recommend this book to lovers of modern fantasy.
The Scrying is a wonderful start to what I'm sure will be an action-packed series filled with magic and sisterhood. Dane is a witch born from two powerful witching families. She's hidden this fact about herself from everyone outside of her family, even her five best friends who she is extremely close to. Soon, Dane finds out she is also part of a chosen group of magical beings descended from the five magical realms the author introduces (beautifully might I add!). This group, the Arcanists, are tasked with saving Earth and the other realms from dark magic/creatures from taking over. But first Dane has to find the other Arcanists, who could literally be anywhere on Earth. Thankfully, she's a witch with amazing powers because I can't see a human having much luck with this! Jaci does an amazing job crafting an alternate world from which the witches (Dane's ancestors) hail and I can't wait to see the other worlds and learn how Dane discovers the other Arcanists on Earth. As I said, this book is heavy on the sisterhood aspect which is one of the things that drew me to it, but it also has a thread of romance that I quite enjoyed and a ton of lovely Celtic history/mythology/imagery. I can't wait until the next book comes out so I can continue on this journey!
The Scrying is the first book in The Scrying Trilogy and debut novel by Jaci Miller. This was a fantastic story and a superb debut! I was engrossed in the story right from the beginning. Let’s face it- she had me at modern witch and ancient warrior. I couldn’t get my hands on the book fast enough, and spent the night locked in this spellbinding tale. I didn’t want to put it down till I had read every last word. The story is dark and romantic- full of self-sacrifice, destiny/fate, secrets, ancient evil, prophecy, magic…. And much more. Dane and Rafe are really brilliant characters who captivated me and had me completely invested in them and the story, the whole way through… and still am! I can’t wait to dive into the next book ASAP! Ms. Miller writes a riveting story, but her world building is what really made the most impression on me- it is incredible. I was transported into the story, experiencing it in vivid colour right alongside the characters. Her words, and attention to detail brought everything to life, making the ‘world’ and everything that happened, so realistic and believable. Bring on book #2!
On her 31st birthday, Dane, a secret witch, gains new powers and finds out she is destined to save the world, if only she can find out how. This simple plot is nicely complemented with florid, descriptive writing that could perhaps use a bit of pruning but is quite charming as is.
The characters are nicely rounded, with room for growth, though Dane feels a bit inappropriately I-don’t-give-a-fig just-turned-18, more petulant young adult than chick lit material. And the whole predestined-to-be-bonded love-at-first-sight thing seems more like don’t-know-what-these-two-see-in-each-other, must-be-destiny excuse, than actual romance, but who's counting...
This is the first book in a series, and the story doesn’t really have a climax or ending to stand on it’s own. We can see the thunderclouds of conflict approaching, get a little drizzle, but that’s about it. While I prefer to end with a bang, it is an engaging read nonetheless, with promise of more to come.
What a great read! The Scrying is an intriguing, exciting and well written fantasy novel. I absolutely loved Dane’s character; it was so great to see an independent, confident and brave female character. Immediately she was really easy to support and I liked how even when her and Rafe’s relationship progresses, she still has to independent fulfil her own destiny and so remains a strong and powerful character. I also liked how there were many plot elements. For example, the story begins with one threat from a dark witch and begins to include more threats when Dane accepts her journey but the first threat still remains underlying throughout the story which results in a well layered plot which has depth. I loved the detail in the description of setting and also in Rafe and Sebastian’s explanation of the history as it was so interesting and added complexity to the story. Overall, this is a great book which I couldn’t put down and I’m now reading the second book in the series!
The Scrying (The Scrying Trilogy Book 1) By Jaci Miller is an incredible written story that wears many masks fantasy, mystery and romance. The author takes great pride in the details of the story I think because it truly jumps off the page and pulls you into a new world you never want to leave. Sometimes with new series’s or first books you get bogged down with world building but I didn’t feel that way once in this story, I was immediately hooked and couldn’t put it down until the last page. Dane is a character that I simply could read about for a long time. She’s my definition of an amazing main character, you just connect with her. The storyline is well written and paced nicely. Characters complex and relatable. I’m very excited to read the next book and anything else this author brings readers. If you’re looking for your next Fantasy read with amazing characters look no further! I’m giving this book a five star review!
The Scrying is the first book in the trilogy and a debut novel by Jaci Miller. This story is a fantasy novel. Ms. Miller has knock this book out of the park. She has an imagination that is fresh and a vocabulary to go along with it. The tale of a modern witch with a warrior has a great chemistry. That alone is intriguing now add secrets, prophecy, magic, and a lot of sacrifice within self and destiny. Dane is a modern-day witch who is really coming into her own. She has a lot to learn in a short amount of time. Rafe is the ancient warrior who is just waking up to again to assist Dane in another battle. Ms. Miller has me wanting to read the next novel. I cannot wait to see how destiny will work out for them.
Finding new authors is becoming on of my best past times. This is a very unique new series and I was sucked in from the first page. The plot line and characters are both refreshing and gripping.
I could feel the emotional weight of Dane's Destiny. The dualiy she has to pull off weighs her down and you can relate with her in a way that a lot of times we have to put on airs for reasons. The build up of the relatonship between her and Sebastian brings another level to the storyline. Seeing as this is the first book in the series I look forward to reading more and following their journey as they fight to put the realms back together and get closer to one another.
The Scrying is the first novel in Jaci Miller’s new trilogy, of the same name. The story weaves a beautiful and eerie tale of witches, destinies and ancient evils. The book had me up all night, hooked on the story. I absolutely love magic, so to see it so perfectly weaved into modern society was perfect. There were clear laws and practises, that had such vivid detailing, that I could practically smell the sage burning. The book was beautifully written, with an eerie tone throughout, and a sense of impending doom lying around every corner. I loved the characters and how well they were all written, as well as the complexity of the history and the magic systems. And I absolutely loved Tyson. I loved Scrying and can’t wait to read the second book! 5/5 stars
