In all eternity, you think Lucifer was the only angel to go bad…? Definitely not. But when the next one does, the Light will be ready with an army of 144,000 half-angels known as Halos. Unfortunately for them, they have no idea. Yet.
Seattle-based drifter, Aurora Coel, and NYC firefighter, Grayson Cross, lead seemingly ordinary lives—until they each receive a letter and tickets inviting them aboard the grand ship, Etheria. Meeting for the first time, Aurora and Gray embark upon this journey together and discover they share an unfathomable connection more powerful than anyone—even the angels—could have predicted. They learn that this connection will be the key to fighting the Darkness threatening to consume the ship. That is, if stubborn, lone wolf Aurora can let down her walls long enough to let Gray in…
With the approaching battle between good and evil, angels and half-angels are called to prepare for the war. Which changes the lives of many unsuspecting people. When Aurora received the envelope containing a flight ticket and a ship ticket, she wanted to throw it away as a spam mail, but some instinct made her keep them and pack for the journey. On the plane, she meets firefighter Gray, who met similar fate with the tickets. Before they board the ship, though, weird things start to happen. Nevertheless, they board the spectacular cruise ship full of expectations, and their call for adventure will be satisfied... though certainly not the way they imagined. Introduced to Chord, Sev, and Brielle, the five of them take off on the most unbelievable journey of their lives. Despite Etheria being the first book I have read by this author, I am very pleased and positively satisfied. The magnificent world, colorful and vivid descriptions and the presence of angelic power set up an intriguing base for a good story. Fluent and easy-going plot with many twists and natural, fast development make the book really enjoyable and a quick read despite its length. I really liked the general atmosphere, radiant, emotional, with suspense and action, and turmoil bubbling under the surface until it exploded into a whirlwind of fight, emotional conflicts and the good vs. evil battle. What I usually focus on most when reading a book are the characters, and I wasn´t disappointed here. Complex and unique personalities with more of a backstory than is obvious at first sight, you get to feel for them almost immediately and learn to know them better for the whole time. Aurora is a strong heroine with walls high up, protecting herself from making the same mistakes again and trying to forget the darkness of her past. Gray is a perfect gentleman, kind and helpful, protective, and hiding his own painful memories. Chord and Sevastion are both extraordinary, kind of outcasts in the closed-minded society, represented at first well by Brielle - but there is more to her than is apparent, too. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I am looking forward to read the next installment in this series.
I liked the different take on angels, demons, and half-angels. This is the story of 5 strangers that receive first class plane tickets to take a cruise ship out of Alaska. On the ship Etheria, they become table cruise buddies, find out they are half-angels and then training buddies under the angel Samuel. I really liked that the 5 strangers characters are totally believable. Even after finding out they are half-angel, they have the same personalities, and do not suddenly become "angel-like" overnight. Made the story better in my mind. Once I read the first chapter I was hooked and had to see what happened next. Aurora and Grey were a hoot and half the interactions just made me laugh. My honest review is - a different take on angels that was believable and interesting and a hoot to read. Looking forward to the next book.
The concept was great, but somehow I couldn't get myself into characters mind - become altruist to their feelings and what was going on. But I enjoyed it even with that obstacle. Aurora and Grayson create a great couple which in next book will probably bloom like a flower (at least that was suggested). Every guest on the ship is the Halo (half-angel) and our main two characters happen to be a pair with a lot of powers when they are cooperating with each other. In this book, we find personal problems, hard past, love, betrayal and angel training.
Welcome to the world of Halos, a world of angel-warriors fighting a demon worse than Lucifer. Similar to the world of Harry Potter, Melody Robinette has managed to write about an implausible situation, and make it eerily realistic. I loved the sense of adventure right from the start. The characters are complex and very likeable, with very non-cookie cutter personalities. Etheria is the first in a series, and as such, has set the reader up for the continuation of the adventures and hopefully, the romance. A great start!
I thought this book was excellent. I loved the characters and their different personalities and traits. The book was very well written and I enjoyed the developing storyline. Highly recommended, can't wait for the next book in the series! I received an arc of this book in return for a voluntary review. Excellent book ...well worth a read!
There's a battle between good and evil going on. This story keeps your interest until the end and then you're surprised that the book has ended. It's so amazing that you can't put it down until you're done. Received an ARC
I very much enjoyed this book. It immediately immerses you in humor and twists that are very fun. Along the way, it tests thoughts and beliefs as well.
