This fully updated The Rough Guide to Scottish Highlands and Islands is the ultimate guidebook to the captivating remote reaches of Scotland. From the divine seafood offerings at Loch Fyne to the whisky distilleries on Islay, this is a place for indulging. It's also a hotspot for outdoor activities, whether you decide to bag a Munro or two, hop onto a mountain bike or stroll along deserted (if blustery) golden beaches. The Rough Guide to Scottish Highlands and Islands contains more information than ever on where to go and what to see in this part of Scotland, with practical information on everything from events listings to transport logistics. There's also coverage of the brand new North Coast 500 route, which loops around the northernmost reaches of the country. From Skye's breathtaking Cuillin ridge to abandoned castles, via riproaring unplanned ceilidhs, this stark and weather beaten part of the planet will not disappoint. Make the most of your trip to the Highlands and Islands with Rough Guides.

I live in Scotland but i wanted more information on some of the places up north & i have always been interested in visiting the islands. I picked this up a couple of years ago and use it everytime i travel within the area the book covers. I hope throughout the course of my life that i will managed to visit all the islands Scotland has to offer. I have found the book very useful & i would recommend it to anyone planing on traveling the Scottish highlands.
I got this mainly to see where my ancestors (Eastern side of Loch Lomond (Dryden) area) came from, in case I ever want to do a trip. There is a lot to see and do in Scotland, and this is definitely on my Bucket List!
It's disappointing. I bought this as a companion to the overall guide to Scotland. Although it is very glossy, with lots of colour pictures, from what I recall of an earlier edition, the content has been seriously reduced, the places to stay, eat and drink have been cut back and much of the background material is gone. If you have a decent older version keep it and don't bother with this one
The sections on history of various regions are definitely a 4.5 star. The sections on finding accommodations didn't help me much (I'd put them at maybe a 3 star). I ended up going through Trip Advisor to find places to stay.
The back history section is also great. Taking this one with me on my trip to the Orkneys and Scottish Highlands in May.
Great Guide. Love the way it is broken up. Gives places to visit and what seems like good advice. Given me plenty of holiday destinations even though I have been going toScotland for years.
