OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

This was really good for giving me tourist ideas for spending a few days in Singapore. My only qualm was that the maps are not detailed enough, some street names are not mentioned and the pull-out map did not show much outside the main area of Singapore. This edition is now two years old and two sites I wanted to see are closed for renovations - but I guess outdated information can be the nature of travel guides!

Good guide book that’s already proved its usefulness on just our 2nd day in Singapore.

Whenever I travel I like to get an idea of what to expect when I arrive at my destination. Lonely Planet always helps me assimilate to my surroundings and gives me great ideas of things to do. It also gives me a bit of history and allows me to understand the location better. One of my favorite parts is where they tell me what not to do. It's important when traveling to know what's illegal or offensive.

I love Lonely Planet guides, and this one has all the things I was hoping for. Good info about cultural and natural attractions, places to eat and stay. My only complaint is that the ebook version doesn’t allow zooming in on the maps, so it’s kind of hard to follow the walking tour directions.
