Running from danger is what Emmaleigh does best, but the monsters of her past are inescapable. Years after ditching a corrupt coven in San Antonio, Emma is making a fresh start in Massachusetts as the owner of a new luxury spa. Her life couldn’t be more peaceful - until a near-death encounter with ruthless vampire hunters draws attention to her questionable history.
According to the vampire elders, Emma’s old ties make her a liability. Given one chance to prove herself, she’s plunged headfirst into a journey to recover a stolen artifact from the hunters—and assigned her own champion. Unfortunately, he’s also her former lover, a master vampire with his own motivation for accompanying her.
Despite their differences, Emma and Adrian must work together to solve the mystery. Her past is coming back to bite her, and the only way off the council’s hit list is to discover why the hunters want the relic at all.
Vivienne Savage is a resident of a small town in rural Texas. While she isn't writing fantasy or concocting ways for shapeshifters and humans to find their match, she raises two children and works as a nurse in a rural retirement home.
All works by Vivienne range from urban fantasy and sweet adult romance to spicy shifter fiction with an erotic kick. Visit her site to determine which series is best for you!
At 40% I was wondering where all the 4 and 5 star reviews came from. I found this book boring and silly. The rules about Adrian and Emma not being about to be together because of their status level being so different in the vampire community, he was a “master” and she was a “neophyte” I could see a lot of angst going on. And I do hate a book filled with angst.
Also, Emma had to go in front of the “Council of Elders” to find out if she were going to be put to death for something that happened in Texas, when she hadn’t even lived there for a year, AND she had to be dressed in a long evening dress and Adrian in a tuxedo for the council and their verdict. I found that totally ridiculous. A life or death situation and they had to dress like they were going to a ball?
Anyway, some evil archangel got loose and instead of being killed the counsil gave Emma the task if recapturing the angel and put her back in the diamond she escaped from.
Overall, it was really not worth my time. I had to do too much skimming.
There was no sex at all, which is different for a vamp book. But the F-bomb was used 14 times. You could take away the F-bomb and this would have been a perfect YA book. I won’t be reading this author again.
As to the narration: The best thing about this book was the narration. Tor Thom spoke every word for the man and Charley Ongel spoke every word for the women. THAT was awesome. I hate narrations where the narrators talk for both the man and women. What’s the point in having 2 narrators then? However, neither of these narrators read without much emotion or if there was emotion it was in all the wrong places. Emma sounded like a 16 year old through the whole book, as did most of her characters and Adrian sounded sexy as hell but bland.
As an incorrigible reader with an increasingly short attention span, I search out free and near free books, often deleting several books at a time before finding one that catches and holds my attention. This is one of those invaluable books from the KU library, and it kept me captivated until the end. It features two vampires, an adept, Emma Whittaker, and a master, Adrian Kennedy. As Emma's superior, Adrian is forbidden from fraternizing with her, something he's already crossed the line on and refuses to cross again. But after Emma is attacked by hunters and defeats them, she is sent by the council on an impossible mission to recover a dangerous artifact and Adrian is sent along as her bodyguard. They face off against age old enemies and make unlikely allies along the way. The ending was fairly predictable except for one major sticking point. But it was important, and the ending was nebulous enough to lower my rating by a star. I would have preferred for the story to continue until the problem was resolved and a more positive outcome was attained. It will be interesting to see where the story goes from here. As it is, it gets 3.5 stars.
As an attendee of Once Upon a Book (OUAB) this summer, I set out to read as many attending paranormal writers as possible. I had the pleasure to meet Ms. Savage at the event last summer. A prolific independent author of paranormal fiction, she also writes as one half of the partnership Payne & Taylor.
Blood Kissed has been one of my favourite reads this summer. It’s the story of sassy vampire Emmaleigh Whittaker, spa operator and dutiful member of The Belleridge Coven of Dartmouth. When Emma is attacked by a militaristic group of vigilante humans, she’s drawn into a larger conspiracy and thrust headlong into danger. Emma is soon given an impossible task -- a task she must complete or her undead life is forfeit. Master vampire, and Emma’s one-time lover, Adrian Kennedy is subsequently drawn into the quest as Emma’s champion. Together the pair face near constant peril all the while making sense of their problematic relationship.
I love a good vampire story. Savage’s vampire construction consists of a political, organized system of sophisticated vampires. Emma’s world, while decadent and pleasurable, teems with repression and fear. Savage has a clear agenda to create powerful, independent, and capable female characters. Emma is smart, sexy, and self-assured. While she is supported by other characters, she isn’t constantly reliant upon them. Together Emma and Adrian make an exceptional team with a combustible dynamic. The pair is supported by an rich cast of characters including shifters, a goddess, and a demon. Blood Heiress has all the style, action, and sex appeal of great vampire fiction. Fans of Charlaine Harris’s (early) Sookie Stackhouse books will love Emmaleigh Whittaker as the blood heiress apparent.
I was gifted this audible book by Vivienne Savage, Tor Thom, Charley Ongel thru Aural Fixation’s on FB. Thank you all. I have to say first the narration was good not excellent, not in my favorite list for these two narrators. I could not get caught up in this story. The storyline was fantastic, but rambled in parts. I liked Emma and Adrian two vampires who in there world were not supposed to be together, but we all know the heart will have what the heart wants. Also the shifters and other supernaturals that were in the story some good some bad added to the plot. I’m not saying don’t read or listen to this book, I’m not giving it a thumbs down, I’m going middle ground with a three.
I feel like I'm running out of superlatives to describe how much I enjoy reading Savage books.
Blood Kissed is well written, great plot, kick ass heroine(s) and includes swoon-worthy alpha-esque males. Revisiting River and Zac and the gang from Atropos is an added bonus.
I don't think you have to have read Impractical Magic and Better than Hex, but it can't hurt, because they are awesome books, too.
I've said it before, and I'll probably say it again. I'll read anything Vivienne Savage writes. Love all the books.
This is an excellent vampire action, adventure, and romance. I can't wait for the sequel. A woman is attacked, and as punishment (!), she is tasked with retrieving a dangerous stolen object. Her crush and superior is sent along as a bodyguard. Along the way they encounter enemies and pick up allies. I would have preferred that the margins weren't fully justified (text is centered) as I find it easier to read a ragged right margin. I found one it's for its, a lay for lie, and a few sentences I would have punctuated differently (see notes).
Have it in Audio I love all things paranormal and this vamp story was amazing . This involves 2 vamps that have strong urges towards each other . . Emmaleigh is the female vamp. She owes a spa and she feels the danger surrounding her . She knows she’s not suppose to be up during the day but she can’t help it . Emmaleigh saves a important artifact and she is sent on another mission Her crush Adrian has to go along with her . Not only is Adrian a strong vamp but a master vamp. Love the narrators Tor Tom and Charley. They brought the story to live
A blood pumping story that is sure to leave you up all night reading. I was hooked from the first page. I loved the strong-willed characters and the storyline. The tie in with Impractical Magic was awesome!! I loved seeing the characters from that series cross over into this story. Overall, an enjoyable fast-paced story that kept me wondering what was going to happen next. I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.
Adrian and Emma's story is my new favorite by Ms. Savage! I was so happy to see familiar characters that I squealed happily in my chair. The world that has been created is fantastic and so easily relatable to ours, I feel like I know the neighbors that are shapeshifters and vampires and witches.
Fantastic story idea, but honestly I wasn't that captivated. You have two vamps who share a one night stand and end up running a wild goose chase together. They make some allies and conquer the bad guy. But all and all, the story was half told. I would recommend the book, but not the series.
Our heroine has strengths she's never explored, her gifts have always been laying in the background. Her attraction to our hero becomes so much more after a near death experience. With the help of friends they work to rid the world of evil.
I enjoyed the plot and characters in Blood Kissed-- some of the plot crept from trope into cliché, but I still found myself wondering what would happen next. A good read, an interesting story, and good writing.
A witch, a shifter, and a vampire walk into a bar...
This is the first of the series, but it smacks of being a part of a different series. Unfortunately, I didn't research this author before buying thus book.
