Beautifully illustrated with a covetable rose gold foil cover, Modern Calligraphy is a step-by-step workbook for those wanting to learn this super trendy form of lettering.
Written by Lucy Edmonds, the founder of Quill London, the book will guide readers through the first steps of pointed pen calligraphy, encouraging you to spend an hour a week developing and practicing the new skill. Designed for complete beginners, the book offers tips, tricks and techniques on the materials required and how to use them properly, how to approach the modern calligraphy letterforms, and most importantly explores ways to develop our own modern calligraphy style. You'll learn about inks and how to make your own, brush calligraphy, and what you can do with your new skill - from envelope addressing and event stationery to beautiful dinner party menus and gift tags.
Unlike other books claiming to teach the art of calligraphy but instead show you brush writing this book is all about calligraphy with some advice on brush writing on chalkboard and wood. This book shows how to hold your pen and takes you through early exercises in calligraphy and progressively fancier techniques. Very good advice on materials.
Really useful for a complete beginner. Explains why you use a pen holder and pointed nib rather than a calligraphy pen. Gives lots of examples of lettering and also explains how to make your own ink. Just need to give it a go now.
This book is a great starting point for people interested in calligraphy and practising their skills. I've been writing with calligraphy pens on my own for years but I've never had these helpful guides and tips before so I'm sure to be improved after reading this, at least I hope so!
