Daughter’s Need finished the Fixers series, but it left quite a few hanging threads. And since I know my readers, I decided to knit a few of those and show you where things have ended up. :)
A few of the stories in this collection began many books ago. Regalis and Tameka. Yesenia and a second trip to a certain Wanderer flea market. A couple of them are here purely because they made me giggle (Kish facing the impending doom of a crown on her head) or because I simply couldn’t resist (there was just no way for this to end without a quick trip to Quixal.) The rest volunteered themselves as I sat with my knitting needles and checked in with each of the characters who made this series what it is.
In case it's not obvious yet, if you haven't read this series, don't start here. Destiny's Song awaits you.
Tameka and Regalis have a past. 70 year ago he choose the stars over her. His job is done and Tameka is determined to give their love a second chance.
The Wanders of Leonardo Station is doing a brisk business in blessed pebbles. Delia has finally allowed Duncan to claim her.
Kish and Devan are finally getting married and Kish is terrified of becoming a princess and everything that means. Just when she is ready to run, the Lightbody clan descends. Mundi helps to center Kish. The Aunties and Bean are going to make sure that Kish's gets what she needs. Devan sent out an SOS to be sure that happened. Loved this beginning for Kish and Devan.
A nice little, what happened to the space vacuum. Scotty has some things to say about it
Raven goes home. Loved this bitter sweet short story. Masi and Sparrow will wait as long as they have to for when she can come home to stay.
A Check in with the Tjesselonia Art Coloney. Sad that there was not an update on a meddling diplomat and his wife.
Bean get a promotion. She is going to make an amazing grandmother for Raven's KarmaCorp tribe.
Janelle, falls for a cowboy
Tatiana is a wondering priestess. She watches over the nodes and leaves pebbles for her far away family.
Jerome and his Willow are doing fine.
Yeseina is retired, traveling the galaxy. Sometimes meeting up with Tatiana. A trip to where it all began, Tezuli Station, Melissa has a priceless gift for her and Alura words of wisdom.
Great collection. Loved seeing the loose ends wrapping up.
As with all short story collections some were awesome, and some didn't touch me much. I really wish Audrey Faye wrote Christian novels - she'd be brilliant at it! The way she describes fellowship and religion would make her even better than Neta Jackson.
But I digress. My favourite story by far was "To See or Not To See". I loved seeing Yesenia back at the flea market of Tezuli, and it bookended the similar story in the first Star Stories collection very nicely :-) I also enjoyed reading about Raven back on her native planet, and Kish finally figuring out how to be herself and a queen at the same time.
Excellent conclusion to the Fixers of KarmaCorp. I'm looking forward to seeing where Audrey Faye takes her writing next.
Like many, I came to this series because I was a fan of "A Modern Witch" and wanted more. What I found was a delightful new universe of characters and worlds with which to fall in love. Each full length book has that element of magic that made me initially fall in love with Debora Geary and later with Audrey Faye. The two collections of short stories were thoroughly enjoyable as well, filling in critical backstories and tying up loose ends in the most satisfying manner.
This series was not at all what I expected, and frankly had I not loved Audrey Faye, I wouldn't have picked it up. I'm glad I did though!
The storytelling and world building is fantastic. You'll fall in love with each of her characters and although I found the ending of the series a little anticlimactic the characters' journeys as a whole will have me revisiting the series again.
I loved the world of the Fixers. I felt like I knew the worlds and Audrey Faye left enough on the table for my own imagination to fill in the spots. She added texture with these short stories, giving glimpses into the past and the future of characters I came to love reading about. I will miss this world but my own imagination will create new stories for my old friends of the fixer world.
I had...issues.... with a book and a half (beating us over the head with "tribal" until I thought to scream) but this more than made up for the perceived literary indulgence. I wish I'd found this experience 10 years ago, but life happens as it will. I've recommended these books to a few of my riskers and there is a spark, so thank you.
Audrey has quickly become one of my favorite authors.
I love novels. A good five or six hour read. BUT, this, this book of short stories made my heart sing. To find out the finished product of all the wonderful women in this series answered. questions I hadn't yet asked. Keep it up, girl, "ya done good."
Heartfelt, deep, with a story that speaks to the best in us. It ties science with "fantasy", or the unknowable within us. It was also interesting that the entire series was written without explicitly going into the evil that threatened this world. Up to the reader's imagination! Properly edited as well... what a pleasure to read.. Well done, well done.
A cozy collection of stories that gently lets the reader down from the KarmaCorp ride, giving tiny glimpses of "what happened after.". A very enjoyable read that brings just the right amount of closure to the series. Well done.
I instantly read this after finishing Daughter's Need, (despite it being 1am) and I sobbed pretty much through all of it. A beautiful way of wrapping everything up for characters I've become so attached to.
I have read every story this author has published. She never fails to disappoint. Her characters are so relate able and come alive on the pages. The stories she weaves leaves you wanting more
I reviewed this last book in Karma Core but I have read all 7 books. Can't say which of the heroines I like best., Maybe Kish. A very good series, wish it could have gone on forever. Good hearts and lots of joy. I like Audrey Gate's books.
Audrey Faye knows her readers well. I look at this group of mini epilogues as her gift to us. Just a tiny glimpse into the character's we have come to love lives.
This is the last KarmaCorp book, it's short stories that tie up a few lose ends & I loved it just as much as the others. The only reason I give it 4 stars & not 5 is I feel it could have given us a little more, but that's just me being greedy!
a fun and often moving set of completions and extensions to the series. I'm grateful for them, as Daughter's Need had left some juicy threads still waving.
I have fallen in love, lost, and cried throughout these books. I have travelled and seen new worlds found myself wanting to live with the mothers and sisters. Thank you.
