Tyler Hartmann had made mistakes, but today was the worst so far. The ship he was on with his mom had been caught in a storm and slammed against some rocks. Soaked by the pouring rain and confused by the darkness, Tyler and the other children had jumped into a lifeboat. It was what they’d been taught by the captain their first day on the ship. But the adults had all gotten on a separate lifeboat. When the two crafts hit the water and were battered by the waves, there had been no way to keep them together. We are on our own. Just Us Kids Just Us Kids Book 1: Shipwrecked Book 2: Frozen
Shipwrecked on an island with no adults! (not really a spoiler as it's all there in the title.)
A nice little read for kids. The kids in the story use their heads and take care of themselves, in a way reminiscent of the original Boxcar Children book. The situation is not exceptionally scary, but it does invite kids to think out 'what could they do? What should they do? What would I do next?'
Short and sweet 'chapter book' for kids just getting into reading, or to read aloud and talk about.
When a storm came up Tyler Hartmann, & his mom had been aboard the Odin (ship). It was now shipwrecked. Tyler (11), & the other children jumped into the lifeboat. The adults in another, which drifted away very quickly. Rory Loots (10, girl), Willie (7), Tom (7), & Julie (6) were the other children.
Tyler became their leader. The kids inventoried their supplies/rations. The canteen was now out of fresh water. Julie, & Rory wrote SOS in the sand on the beach. They gathered firewood to build a fire. Water was boiled & hopefully it would be safe to drink. Next they gathered coconuts for food/something to drink also. The kids would need to build a better shelter. They found some clams & tried spearing fish. A yellow snake had scared Julie. Will the kids get rescued someday?
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, & proper font & writing style. A very well written children’s shipwrecked adventure story (book). It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s shipwrecked adventure movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

It’s a great read for teens, it has stats at the end of each chapter reminding us how many words we’ve read and that keeps kids engaged with the book and eager to read more. Nice story.
this book is so cute and adorable. I am now realize adventure-survival is one of my comfort book genre. It was well-written and I enjoy the adventure this 5 kids experienced. If I read this book when I was in primary school I think this is probably gonna be one of my favorite haha. I love how the reading process diagram is attached at the end of every chapters and it also reminding us of how much words we have read through the story. I mean, it is good method to make kids stay passionate to read a story.
overall, this is such a nice night-time story for me LOL 😂
Tyler is accustomed to being on a ship but today, somehow, he and the other kids had become separated from their parents when the ship smashed against the rocks. The five children are on their own in a lifeboat. Rory is 10, Tyler is 11 and the three younger children are Willie, Tom and Julie.
This is a GREAT teaching book but kids won't realize it! There is an EXCELLENT variety of survival skills presented. The story keeps your interested, being not too long. As an adult reading it I found the 'End of Chapter Stats' annoying but I can see how knowing how many pages read, recap of characters etc. would be helpful to younger readers. The book does have a happy ending and I look forward to reading more by this author.
I downloaded this book onto my Kindle. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz
This is an Excellent Book, but the way it is written it seems more like a book report. BUT the story line is fascinating and it does keep you on your toes. I think this is a beginning of the book, and if the Author will elaborate more on each the chapters. And maybe add another problem happening that they will need to solve. Yes I really love the story and hope that there will be a sequel.
The book was great for grade school age children. Younger kids would probably need to hear the whole story at the same time as the kids are stranded and you wouldn't want your Kindergartner worried about that for a few days. The book is not scary at all. It has a lot of problem solving as well as dealing with other children. It's quick and easy to read.
My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.
Five childrens with differents age (Tyler, Rory, Willie, Tom, and July) trap at the sea and separete from his parents since their trip ship to Australia is shipwrecked ans they must ride different small boats with their parents. Tyler as the oldest kid between them feels that he must in charge to make other kids calm and not panic and of course find ways to make them save.
wow these 6-11 year’s old kid surviving for 2 weeks in an island.. big brain i think they deserves an award for that... like if i were them i would have a mental breakdown everyday and probably would not survived :/ i wish they shown the background of how they get into their situation more / when the shipwreck happens but anyway it was a fun read !!
I liked how they were very resilient... It's hard to imagine they were so young but they worked together and did so well up come home
I happily gave this a five star and would recommend this story for reading. It has many easy sight words and some challenging words. Definitely worth having your 4th or 5th grader read through it.

My 4th grade students and I loved it! We read a chapter a day and they were upset when I stopped each day. The characters are easy to relate to. The kids laughed at times, and we're full of what ifs at other times...this book is perfect for 3rd thru 5th grade students.
The story was a bit weak. It lacked any kind of depth. I wouldn't recommend this book.
As above a weak story lacking depth. The characters were also poorly described. It would be impossible for any of these things to happen and it wasn't explained how it happened.
This book deserves a 5 star rating because I actually felt as if I was the one trapped on that island. I also liked the way Tyler led the team with confidence , but the funniest part was when Tyler was afraid of snakes.
I would recommend this book to children my age and the was paced well, and held my interest. I feared the children would not survive. I also learned not to drink salt water.
My second grader is struggling to learn to read. He was getting discouraged having to read "baby" books. So I found this book to read with him because he is ALL about survival. He is fired up about reading finally! Please write more!
What a delightful book about working together and the amount of success that comes with team work. My granddaughter read it and thought it was wonderful!
Intinya buku ini seru dan menyenangkan buat disimak. Senyum-senyum sendiri di sepanjang ceritanya, lalu tokohnya juga unik meski cuma digambarkan begitu apa adanya.
