Dog Gone it! Karen knocked it out of the BallPark with this book!
Love how Karen Putz captures the part of how to unwrap your passion by creating the life you want! As a small business owner myself… I’ve been drowning in the business aspect of life and forgotten to set goals to pursue my passion in both my personal life and running small business. There are so many thing that I want to do and this book is setting me toward the direction I needed to go. Karen tells of many other people stories, revealing their secrets and inspirations. Thank you Karen for writing this book on “Unwrapping Your Passion”. This reminds me of an old song that is so dear to my heart…Climb every mountain, Ford every stream, Follow every rainbow, 'Till you find your dream.

This book is really helping me because I’m in the middle of pursuing my dream but it’s really scary. Often, I feel like I’m making a fool of myself, especially on social media (I’m such a private and shy person). Putting myself out there feels like I’m completely exposed and I want to give up when those negative feelings of inadequacy come in, or if things get too uncomfortable. But this is what I wrote in my diary after reading a little bit of Unwrapping Your Passion:

“Recently, I’ve been reading a book and it’s helping me get very clear on my vision of success. It’s strengthening me for my dream journey and helping me hone in on my goal, like, I suddenly became an airplane and I’m just FLYING towards my dream. I became super focused and my energy is collected. It helped me shed off the parts that are weighing me down, and now, I’m just zipping ahead. I feel amazing! Just gotta keep going.”

This book gave me hope that I’ll succeed because I have passion which means I’ll weather through any suffering or difficulty. That’s exactly how Karen defines passion. It’s what you’re willing to suffer and brave obstacles for. That’s a perspective I never thought of before. Most people describe passion only as the thing which you feel great excitement for. But they don’t necessarily mention the suffering part. I found that definition to be very interesting. Unwrapping Your Passion was just such an inspiring read overall. The energy is really catching.

I read this book during my pockets of free time; through my nap, while cooking oatmeal, while waiting for the baby to burp and etc. I enjoyed her humor and her lighthearted way of writing. She’s so amusing and the book was hard to put down. Oh yeah, I even read it at 5 in the morning (and I am NOT a morning person!)

The quotes are amazing. I’m big on quotes, but a lot of these I hadn’t heard before. I wanted to highlight the whole book! For that reason alone, this book is a treasure.

I like the bit where she addressed perfection. It was very relatable.

During my read, I felt that the author and I share many similarities.

I loved the story of Michael who inspired his parents to live their dreams. How beautiful.

I started adding more crazy things to my bucket list, expanded my vision to include more outrageous goals because as Karen taught, we shouldn’t worry about the HOW. Just focus on what we want.

I like how she addressed fear and talked about her fear of alligators. Fear is a big part of my journey towards success and it helped to see her example in action.

It amazed me that the author was writing part of the book on an airplane. Wow, that takes a lot of discipline! Traveling is tiring.

I really like Bill’s story and the story about the author’s daughter performing for Broadway.

There are some amazing interviews with really good content. Their energy felt so powerful and really carried me.

I like the “lollipop moment” reference.

And here are a few (or a lot) of my favorite quotes:

“I could continue to struggle, mourn, and grieve, or I could change my attitude and become the best possible deaf person I could be.”

At the end of our life, we will ask ourselves three questions, “Did I live? Did I love? Did I matter?” what if we asked ourselves those questions now

One way to look at it is to see passion as the soul on fire. The deep burning within to do the thing you were born to do.

There is a lot of suffering and misery and hatred in the world and you have the power in your own way to change that by taking a stance and saying, “I’m gonna live a life that I love. I’m gonna live a life that’s meaningful, that’s gonna make a difference.”

That’s exactly how Jessica explains passion: it is your soul coming alive.

Man is so made that when anything fires his soul, impossibilities vanish. -Jean de la Fontaine

And the awe that comes with accomplishing something you’ve worked for, sweated for, and passionately aimed for? Priceless.

Passion is a really strong energy- people will feel it.

Passionate people are willing to fail. They are persistent and, sometimes, relentless.

Chase down your passion like it’s the last bus of the night. -Terri Guillemets

When you envision the future, whom are you with? What are you doing in the future? What do you have? What have you accomplished? How do others see you?

That passion is inside of us- that thing that keeps us fighting, keeps us living- we constantly have to be on that diving board bouncing, because some day we will make that splash, that BIG splash.

Trust the journey.

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all. -Oscar Wilde

The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.-Frederick Buechner

Without clarity, we tend to drift through life until one day, we have no more life to drift through.
You step way, way, way out of your comfort zone when you live on the edge.

The cave we fear to enter has the treasure we seek.-Joseph Campbell

If you follow your passion, the reward will come.

A few things you won’t say at the end of your life: all those arguments I won against my spouse were really worth it. I’m glad I kept the entire china set so sparkling new by never using it.

Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from. -Seth Godin

Every expert on earth has started out as a beginner. I often tell people, “Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s ten-year process.

The messy middle is where many people give up, but for those who stay the course, the middle brings you to the triumphant place in your journey where you see all the pieces fitting together.

To the degree that you feel negative emotions, that is the degree you are out of alignment.

When you take one step toward the universe, the universe takes nine toward you. -Oprah

There is no passion to be found playing small—in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living. -Nelson Mandela

We’ve made leadership about changing the world, and there is no world; there are only six billion understandings of it. and if you change one person’s understanding of it, one person’s understanding of what they’re capable of, one person’s understanding of how much people care about them, one person’s understanding of how powerful an agent of change they can be in this world, you’ve changed the whole thing.

Fantastic book!!

Some people will even say it was so good that they couldn’t put it down. But, that wouldn’t be true, for me at least. It is a very good book and it definitely is one that I looked forward to getting back in to every time I sat down to read. I could put it down, but I FORCED myself. Rather than doing a quick read and write a review about the contents, I wanted to take a full month or so and deeply read and review the impact of this book. When I came across exercises, I spent the time to really consider what I wanted out of life, what was holding me back, and how to break through those barriers.

If you would have asked me to read a personal growth book 5 years ago I would have told you “those books are for weak minds, where the author lures you in with promises of wealth and happiness, all while pocketing the cash of the people foolish enough to buy the book.” This is one area of my life I am glad to admit that I was totally wrong.

‘Unwrapping your Passion’ is a great easy read. I really enjoyed the varied, but highly relatable stories throughout. Some of my favorites were the story Craig MacFarlane and another about Team Hoyt. Imagine being blind and having the ability to stare down fear while independently skiing downhill or going over a waterski jump and not knowing where or how you will land. Imagine running in over 1000 races, including Ironman triathlons, while towing or pushing your adult son, just to allow your son to have that sense of freedom and participation. THAT’S passion, and that’s what struck me.

‘Unwrapping Your Passion’ did just that. I have always sought after financial and time freedom. My wife and I started a home-based business to support that dream, but life kept getting in the way of consistent action. Through the exercises in ‘Unwrapping your Passion’ I really came to understand that my passion lies in playing music and traveling. Fortunately, my wife shares both of those passions with me. We are exploring the skills needed to lead worship together at church in the future. We also realized that we could never do the level of traveling we want with my current job hanging around my neck like an albatross. This thought lead to renewed focus on growing our business. The very next couple we invited to join our business share our passion to travel but they are also constrained by the same day-job-scenario. Now we are excited to support each other and help our businesses grow together. We will be experiencing the same liberating, passion-driven life others from the book have experienced.

‘Unwrapping Your Passion’ also does a fantastic job of focusing on the very best nuggets of knowledge from some of the greatest thought leaders of personal development and business success; authors like Jack Canfield, Zig Ziglar, and Jim Rohn. Thanks to Karen Putz, not only do I have renewed focus on my personal passions, I now have a few more items on my personal reading list to help keep the passion alive.

If you have no idea what you want to get out of life, this book is for you. If you are a student of continuing personal growth, this book is for you. If your personal growth and dreams have become stagnate, you need a fresh boost, and this book is for you. If your opinions of personal growth are more aligned with thoughts I had a few years ago, but you are curious enough to have found this review, this book is DEFINITELY for you!

When life gets tough, act with gratitude. Stay on the lookout for lollipop moment opportunities.

Good luck and God bless.

Butterflies don’t have ears - they’re deaf! Butterflies are free.

What happens when we grow up? What if you learned to unwrap your gifts and discover just what it is that lights your soul on fire?

At the end of our lives, we will ask ourselves “Did I live? Did I love? Did I matter?” Why not ask ourselves these questions now?

Passion is that quiet nudge within you that tells you when you’re feeling blissful and content.

Passion is energy. Passion is love with intensity. At any given moment you can choose to tap into it. Passion is the gift within you - unwrap yours.

“Our passions are the true phoenixes; when the old one is burnt out, a new one rises from its ashes.” … Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The author skillfully weaves summaries of books by Jack Canfield, Angela Duckworth, Tony Robbins, Andy Andrews and others with personal stories and inspirational quotes building to an inescapable conclusion - the UNWRAP formula:

Understand what you’re passionate about
Nurture yourself
Wonder - Keep the wonder in your life
Reflect on the journey, Re-evaluate when you’re off path, Renew and begin again in a new direction
Awe - invite more awe moments into your life
Passion - live each day with passion

The American Dream includes the Pursuit of Happiness. The author’s conclusion: Happiness is present when you are living with passion and serving your purpose.

Truly an unusual book by an unusual person. Recommended for a refreshing read.

Stop treading water! Not only does the author provide many examples of people who have found their passion, including herself, but many of the examples show that people can overcome whatever mediocre or poor circumstances they may be in, beat all the odds and find the one or more things that they are passionate about. It is not just about one passionate thing either and those passions can change. I love the motivation that she provides to make you want to find your passion, break free from one's mediocre or average, everyday life and get to fulfilling your life's passions. While one doesn't know where their passions will take you, it is clear from the book that it can be only good things.

A great compass to help you find your passion

After deciding I need to align my work more with my passions and interests, I picked up a copy of this book. I practically finished it in one sitting! Highly recommended!

I normally don't write a reviews. I also don't normally read this genre. But this book is truly special book. I hate writing a reviews because I don't feel confident in my writing skills since it's my second language but after reading this book I feel like this book is really important to me so I'm going to write my first review.
Karen is truly beautiful writer with that rare natural voice that make you feel like she's just sitting across from you telling you a stories. She was such a natural storyteller. I never felt like she was trying to sell me on an idea or convince that I'm doing something wrong. She just honestly care so much about this and it really show in her book. It's rare for a book like this to feel like a conversation between author and reader, and after finishing this book I really wanted more. I hope I'll be able to sit down with Karen one day to talk about her ideas and her works.
I've always considered myself a very passionate person who's very sure about what I want to do. I struggled a bit recently trying to figure out what's my next step in my career path, when Karen's daughter suggested this book to me. I thought I would find a couple of interesting and useful pieces but I didn't expect to be so touched hearing all those stories of people discovering and going after their passions. I didn't expect to feel so inspired and motivated to change my lifestyle. I've always loved writing and helping others but I never felt like I had an enough time to do either so my writing habit suffered past last few years. Karen made me realize that huge part of the reason I struggled was because I was afraid. And I've spending so much of my times on something that would be forgotten and unimportant to me in few years. So I'm going to change few things in my life right now and start doing more for me and others.
Other thing I really love about this book is how Karen cited and listed the books that gave her a pieces she used to make this book. I loved being able to go through her list and read the foundation of what made this book and led Karen to become such amazing person she is today. My to-be-read list grew because of this book.
This is such a great book and I truly loved reading it. I'm going to buy this for few of my friends and families.

This book WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!! I first found out about this book when searching for books about deaf people and/or by deaf authors to build my personal library and to support the Deaf Community, the Deaf Ecosystem, and Deaf Talent.

I was so excited when I received Karen’s book for Christmas 2017. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down! I laughed, I cried, and I changed my perspective on life. The stories, including Karen’s own story, are full of inspiration. Because of this book I have changed my habits, I have made a bucket list, and I have started crossing some of those things off of my bucket list. Do yourself and your life a favor and READ THIS BOOK!

In 2018 I recommended Unwrapping Your Passion to a teacher for the Deaf who wanted to celebrate Deaf Awareness Month (September) with her deaf and hard of hearing students by reading books about and/or by deaf people. She thanked me many countless times for bringing Karen’s book to her attention! She told me her students read four books, but they had the best discussions centered around Unwrapping Your Passion. High schoolers benefited from this book, and so can you!

November 2018 I met Karen, and so did a few of the high school students who read her book. We had the pleasure of watching her present on the topic of passion and she even signed our books. It was an amazing experience!

This book encourages you to begin looking at life differently than before. Not recognizing the rut (or just the routine mindset) you are in, this book guide es you into the world of possibilities. I was a reluctant reader as I was in my comfort zone but now that comfort seems restrictive. Thanks for bringing gentle light.

Even if you are living the life you enjoy, open this book up and read a couple of chapters. Put it down, then pick it up again a bit later. Changing attitudes and perspectives, for in-depth genuine change, cannot happen in one sitting.

This book is very down to earth and inspirational. True stories of those who found their passions and acted on them. If you feel stuck in life, you need to read this book. Karen Putz captured the spirit behind those you chose their passions.
