If a book is advertised as "a Bear Logan thriller," one expects that the named character would bear a prominent role (pin intended). Other than a few chapters in first person writing, however this simply reads like one of Ryan's Jack Noble thrillers. And, having been on a steady diet of thrillers for a long time now, I find myself very disappointed. I'm growing tired of all the killing, frankly. I want more character development.
I was expecting at least some insight or depth of character to emerge regarding the extremely large sidekick (his given name is Riley but he's known as Bear due to his frame) and there was nothing new from his appearances in the Noble series. Noble almost gets the girl - not Logan - as a *for instance. " Ryan has written the usual plot twists about betrayal, gun fights, and combat, but at the end of it, the reason to buy the next book isn't because you're now fascinated by what was a minor character emerging into his own, but rather because there's a loose end for Noble and Logan to follow.
Having only read a few of the Noble booms, I can't say how this compares to the series in general. But approaching it from the point of view promised by the cover, there's nothing here to keep me following the series.
A good read if you are interested in a story about a couple of professional killers and their activities. There was not much more to the story. It was a $.99 Amazon special.
Picked this up knowing it was a spin off series, but that didn't really bother me - I assumed the author would at least give a rough overview of the characters and background for newcomers like me in the first couple of chapters. Never happened. I stuck it out until 20% in and then gave up. The book doesn't provide any reason as to why I should care about Bear Logan. 40 pages in, I still have no idea who he and his buddy Jack Noble are. CIA Agents? Military? Hitmen? The author never bothers to explain anything, except they're supposed to assassinate some corrupt US senator. The reader doesn't even get a physical description of the characters. Fans of the author's other work may like this, but I'm glad I only paid 99 cents.
This was a disappointment - the plot didn't make a lot of sense and I never felt the need to find out what would happen next. Most of the time, I couldn't even keep the two main characters apart. The editing was really sloppy in this one - lots of grammatical mistakes and one chapter even randomly changed from first to third person. Made it a little over halfway, but then I was just too bored to continue. However, seeing other people say how disappointed they were with this one, since all the author's other books are so much better, makes me think I may try one of his other titles down the line.
Bear and Jack were so closely matched that it was difficult to determine which one was speaking. At times I could only determine who was speaking when bear was identified by his size or Jack was identified by name.
Although the book is a Bear Logan thriller, it read and and felt like I was reading a Jack Noble book.
As I mentioned the book was an excellent read a little confusing at times and the ending was anticlimactic.
Pedantic, rehashed, tired filler. I think the author had a word count obligation to meet rather than a story to tell, and that’s a shame, cause the other stories worked. One word two words three words Boo.

Switching narrative characters leaves your readers jumbled
After reading your Jack noble series where Jack is narrating, it’s very disjointed to read this. With the same characters I found myself wondering is this before or after the other series? And I was constantly reading sentences that stated,” I….” With that referring Jack noble as in the other books but it was Bear in this novel. I felt constantly turned around. I didn’t care for it at all.
This is the first book I have read in series. Awesome will continue to read till I catch up to be current. Then have to wait like everybody else for a new book to come out. Thanks for the new series, loved the characters. Looking forward to reading the next eight to catch up
Not up to the usual standards considering it was the first in a Bear Logan Series. No background on the characters to set up the plot or give an idea of where the people were coming from. Needs a stronger beginning with more character development.
The story was a consistent L. T. Ryan read but the proofing could have been better. A whole chapter wrote Bear in the 3rd person, not the 1st used in the rest of the book
Takes a half a dozen chapters to set things up and get going, not necessarily engaging from the get go. To me it is a so, so story, not that entertaining. I really never felt like I needed to find out what happens next. I just don’t think I got it at all. 3.0
What a lots of rubbish. There is no human factor in this book. Couple of killer robots going around and kill people. I found the villain more human than those 2 psychopath.
I picked this audiobook only because the narrator was Alexander Cendese, but even he couldn't make it more appealing.
So a Jack Noble novel, not good enough to be a Jack Noble novel? This is not the Bear I have gotten to know in the Jack Noble novels. Give him his own adventure where Jack does not come into the situation or just call it a Jack Noble novel.
This one is told by his partner Bear Riley. I won't give away the plot but there are bad guys and other good guys that help Jack and Bear complete their mission. And author Ryan lays the groundwork for the next book. This was a good read.
A very intriguing story about how Jack and Bear are going to complete their assignment with as little collateral damage as possible. A story full of excitement and intriguing.
After reading all the Jack Noble books, I didn’t want the series to end so started this series. So far it is pretty good. Good action, still feels like Jack Noble but love the story line. Getting ready to read book 2!
Jack and Bear are at it again traveling for another job to take out a corrupt politician. Somehow it all collapses and leads into kidnapping a child and so much more. Who is working in the background to hinder them and why?
This first book features Jack Noble , Noble series was enjoyable. This first book was just rushed with constant mentions of Jack. Mentions of Jack are non stop that I thought this was a jack reacher knock off. It very well could be due to descriptions
Who to trust and how quickly to move when a child’s life hangs in the balance. Enjoy the relationship between Jack and Bear and how they can read each other to make a dynamic team
Exciting action and great story lines. Characters are believable and interesting. I found myself totally involved in the story and read it in one sitting. Couldn’t put it down.
First time to read a book by L. T. Ryan. Thoroughly enjoyed the story and action. Like way it ended by leaving you wanting to quickly get to next book.
