*Reread 10/2/2020* Yessss!! Saeko and her drums!! She's so freaking cool. I absolutely love her. I'm so freaking excited to see this animated. Inarizaki might be one of my favorite teams/games. I love the Miya twins and their buffonery. This season is going to be so good.
*Original Review 11/26/2019* Everyone is literally such an idiot and I love them. Also that bonus story where Aone is being accused of kidnapping Kenma is everything lol.
i don't like teams that play dirty like that. and like.... they might be the 'strongest opponents' or whatever but no school will ever be scarier than aoba johsai. and that can be felt through the pages somehow. there's no sense of urgency, it's like they're not scared. at least not to the extent they were in their first matches, or even against shiratorizawa. that last surprise sure was nice mgjhubfvfbj
Didn't even realize I was holding my breath until I turned the final page…LOL!
Wooooo buddy if this isn't an intense volume I don't know what is!!! I forgot about all the different "tactics" Inarizaki has when Karasuno first plays as well as how Atsumu is almost like a completely different person compared to when you meet him and after you get to know him. LOL!
I do NOT like Hoshiumi! That's not to say that Furudate won't have me changing my mind at some point because *points to Ushijima who use to be my least favorite character in Haikyu!!* but I feel he is ultimately Hinata's biggest rival. And for that, I do not like him. I definitely grinned after he sees Hinata and Kageyama's first quick because it felt like a mic drop moment. LOL!
While Bokuto plays a small role, I can't help but love him to pieces! He is just a hoot! And his whole team is just amazing! I really look forward to seeing them again and spending time with them!
ALL of the mini bonus panels/pages after each chapter were hilarious! I think the best one was Daichi and him getting so angry though! LOL! That was absolutely priceless!
And a huge AWWW to Tanaka! I forgot about that "special" scene there!
This volume was a lot of fun, filled with glimpses of other teams and their interactions with members of Karasuno. Inarizaki is not one of my favorite teams, but I still managed to enjoy the beginning of their game against each other. And I loved getting a peek into Tanaka's childhood, even if it was from someone else's point of view!
Favorite moments:
-Bokuto seeing his "number one disciple". -The staredown. -Tanaka and Kanoka being so awkward with each other. -Hinata randomly forgetting to hit the ball! 🤣
3.25 stars - some good moments (especially between the Miya twins and Hinata forgetting to hit the ball TvT) but there were some aspects that irritated me (i.e. the way Atsumu silenced the cheering band(?) gave me such a big ick TvT)
1. My boi Bokuto was awesome and I LOVE the dynamic between him and Akaashi. I can't wait to learn more about them! (P.S. Hinata being Bokuto's disciple is fucking adorable and I love it).
2. Hoshiumi is probably one of my new fave characters and the staring contest he has with Hinata is GLORIOUS. Also, love the fact that he's actively challenging peoples' expectations/opinions regarding a volleyball player's height inherently determining their value.
3. I already have a strong dislike for Inarizaki, especially Atsumu Miya. I'm sure, based off of how this series has handled characters, I will grow to appreciate him at least, but right now he's a manipulative, entitled little shit and I want to punt him out a window.
That's about it. REALLY looking forward to the rest of this match, ESPECIALLY since Karasuno is FINALLY going to get their own cheer squad! Can't wait!
27. Haikyuu!! An Opportunity Accepted: 4.5 stars 28. Haikyuu!! Day 2: 4.5 stars 29.Haikyuu!! Found: 5 stars
I cannot hide I'm a Miya twin enthusiast. Also, the nationals hype is so real. This arc is one of my faves and I0m getting anxious cause I'm coming closer to an arc that hasn't been animated yet...
Karasuno cleared the first round and advanced to the second round where they're pitted against the ultimate contenders. Inarizaki's huge cheering squad threw off Karasuno's rhythm, but Saeko is here to save the day.
This volume was honestly Entertainment Central. It looks like the Inarizaki game is going to be a long one, so it's time to strap myself in and get ready for the twists and turns.
Before heading into Nationals: Day 2, Furudate lets Karasuno explore the venue and run into some new and old characters. Vol. 28 sets up the Nationals arc very well.
