Men of Manhattan #7

An Honorable Man

Rate this book
This is a re-release from Wilde City. It can be read as a standalone and is preceded by A Selfless Man.

Officer Danny Finnegan loves his job. As one of the youngest faces on the police force, he has taken on the challenge of going undercover to catch a serial killer in Manhattan. Ten rent boys have been murdered, and Danny knows it won’t be long before another one turns up dead in an alley. He and his partner, Tiernan Callahan, gear up to hit the seedy side of the city that never sleeps. There’s only one problem. They need help to make Danny’s cover convincing.

Bobby Laughlin left the back streets of Manhattan behind when he came way too close to becoming another number in the rent boy killings. He spends most of his time on Fire Island working at a bar. He is trying to get his life back on track when officer Danny Finnegan walks back into his life. Bobby was attracted to Danny the first time he saw him — when the boyish-looking cop took Bobby’s statement after a client beat him brutally. Working with the the sexy cop could be dangerous. It would put him right back on the streets he’s been trying so hard to avoid.

Bobby reluctantly takes on the task of teaching Danny how to work the streets. As things heat up on the case and in their hearts, Bobby finds himself falling for Danny, and Danny has eyes only for Bobby.

But can they catch a killer before one of them ends up as the next headline?

The Men of Manhattan Series is as follows:
A Betting Man
A Marrying Man
A Fighting Man
A Working Man
A Healing Man
A Selfless Man

I have been blessed in this life to not only have parents that support me, but kids that do as well. I grew up in a loving but "Old School" French household. My parents worked for the airlines (TWA) so I was able to see a lot of Europe as a kid. I moved to Seattle Washington at the age of 22 and stayed there for twelve years before moving to Alaska for a little over two. Fairbanks, AK was one hell of an experience and I wouldn't hesitate to go back! I spent a little over a year in South Carolina before moving back to Arizona. I then left for Kansas for five years and now reside in Arizona. I've been connected to the military in one way or another for over half my life and wouldn't change a thing about it. Writing has become my full time job and I've never been so happy doing a job I love and being able to do it in my jammies. I plan on writing until I dry up and die. Hopefully, that won't happen soon!

This book had tons of potential, but just felt too slapped together.

Too many coincidences. Too many "would you look at that?" things in common. From the pickles to the olives to the hockey to the video game. Come on!

Even Danny's sense of humor, which I loved in A Healing Man was overshadowed by the sheer volume of choppy and cheesy dialogue in this book.

Danny and Bobby's relationship fluctuated between sweet and too rushed and forced.

Their introduction earlier in the series piqued my interest, but when it came time to tell their tale, it's as though the author knew what she wanted to happen, but not how to actually go about doing it...at least not smoothly.

The plot had promise, but flowed awkwardly. This had a lot to do with some very bumpy transitions...and also random information thrown into a scene to either tie up a loose end, remind the reader of something or to set up a scene in the future. Like I said....BUMPY.

Big bright spot: I loved Danny's parents and I really liked seeing the other couples.

This series has been an up and down rollercoaster ride for me, that unfortunately didn't end on the most satisfying note, but it was still enjoyable.

I think this is the last book in the series, though the author introduced a couple of characters here to leave an opening for the possibility of another book.

I think it's time for me to stop with this series. The last books didn't do it for me, and this one was the worst. I found it repetitive and unrealistic. Everything just...happened. Sorry, not for me.

*** Terrific book seven in this great series ! ***
Bobby, sweet but tough, 19, Bobby escaped the serial killer in book #6 of this series.
Danny, a cop, blonde, green eyes, lean

and an expert at martial arts, visited Bobby in the hospital every day.
The tough younger man, with curly hair and blue eyes, impressed Danny.

The search for the killer is a top priority. We get to see the undercover operation, stake outs, and investigation action. Bobby, former rent boy, helps find the license number of the car, and helps the investigation. During all of this Danny and Bobby get closer. Each man is deeply drawn to the other. We get hot sext times, role play, and more.

These men are perfect for each other in so many ways. Danny's folks are accepting of Bobby, and he's welcomed to the family. This pleases him because he's been alone in the world since birth.
When the cops think they have the killer, it looks fishy to some, because something is off, and they keep digging, and - - they were right.

It's a shock who the serial killer is.
There is some violence, and it's a fast paced story. Issues need to be resolved, and Danny and Bobby work out their emotions. Awesome epilogue !

Looking forward to more from Sandrine Gasq-Dion.
Highly recommend this series. Each book can stand alone.
ENJOY !

This was better then the last few books to me. I do miss the sugary sweet fluff of the first part of the series. I kinda wanted this series to just be more contemporary and romantic then the last few action/adventure we got. It's reminding me alot of the Assassin/Shifter series, to many names and faces that I can't recall or remember.I miss the first two or three books where I can re-read those forever. Nonetheless we do get some of the same cheesy goodness, but it's split with finding a serial killer. I thought the killer was rather obvious myself. I did feel some of the story was rushed towards the ending.

As usual, I like the way the guys find common ground with one another. Danny & Bobby have been walking around each other for months now. When it gives Danny the chance to go undercover, not just for his job but in order to get to know Bobby better. I liked the guys, but I didn't find anything particular spectacular about his coupledom either. Sandrine is a comfort read author of mind so I find myself reading my favorites over and over then wanting to try something new and get disappointed. Again this wasn't bad as the last one for me. I just wish she can get back the magic of book 1 & 2 of this series. Can't wait for more from her.

I’ve really enjoyed reading this one right after finishing the sixth book. I loved Bobby – love his character that is so similar to Ryan in most aspect but way more explored. I also adore Danny! The guy is perfection!

I was able to guess who the serial killer is midway through the story and it didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the book. The story revolves more about the development of the relationship of the main couple here. I loved the vibrant character of Danny. He’s just so adorable! Bobby, as I’ve said is an absolute replica of Ryan from the last book but he still complemented Danny in every way.

The sixth book is enjoyable but this one is far more meaty in terms of plot lines. It’s very easy and very fun to read! I just loved everything about it!

Now, I am very excited to read the next book which I’m hoping will be involving a drag queen and a playboy cop!!!!

“An Honorable Man”- Sandrine Gasq-Dion
*I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

I’ve been waiting for Danny and Bobby’s story ever since we met them a couple books ago. I’m not real big on the “rent boy” trope, I don’t like it, it’s not my thing, but like I said; I’ve been waiting for something to happen with these two, and this series has been pretty amazing… So, now that I’ve read it….let’s talk about it!

Bobby was the rent boy who got attacked and left by the dumpster. Danny is the cop going undercover to try to catch the guy who’s doing all the killing of these rent boys…. Even though Bobby was off the streets now, working in a club serving drinks, Danny and Tiernan needed someone to help them learn the ropes; know where to go, who to talk to, what to do…. So, Danny thought of Bobby. He was a little hesitant at first, but as someone who was a victim of the murderer who just barely escaped with his life, he agreed to help them out. He took Bobby to his neck of the woods, introduced him to his pimp and they made a really good team, working together.
Of course, the more time they spent together, the more attracted they were to each other. It was cute the little things they had in common, like their dependency of hot chocolate and their hang ups with pickles lol, however, it got to be a little much and a little unbelievable… I get they have a lot in common, but do they have to be the same people? It was a bit farfetched at times. . I really liked how Danny didn’t judge, not only Bobby, but he was just an all-around good guy; he didn’t care what Bobby used to do or why he used to do it, he didn’t look at him any differently than he would have anyone else with any other job. He got to know him and liked him because, no matter what he went through or what had happened to him, he was still funny and smart and sweet. He wasn’t hard or jaded from the crappy life he’d endured; he was an all-around good guy too. I liked that for both of them, they just fit together.

There were a few instances, especially with dialogue that I thought were kind of cheesy; for example, when Danny catches someone “trying to scare” Bobby, and he knocks the guy off of him, he’s like “What? You’re the killer?” …. Would a cop really say that? It all sounded a bit “Scooby Doo” too me. Like, jinkies, pull off his mask and let’s see who the killer really is!

I loved Danny’s family…. Well, I loved his mom and dad, his brother wasn’t my favorite person. I didn’t like the way he treated Bobby…. I mean, I could see where he was coming from to an extent, but… he could have went about his concern in a different way, one that didn’t hurt Bobby. I didn’t like that.

I also knew immediately who “The Killer” was… as soon as he came into the story, out of nowhere I might add, I was like… oooh there it is…. Of course that’s who it is. It’s always a person of power or someone political…. I couldn’t believe Brendan or Danny didn’t at least consider it before he “walked into the light and revealed himself”…. (another Scooby doo moment) ….
I also didn’t like that Bobby left Danny when he was in the hospital. For a second, I thought Danny’s brother said something to him again but he didn’t, he was just trying to come to terms with taking a life, which I get and all, but when he was in the hospital, Danny came to see him everyday and was with him every day, and they didn’t even love each other yet, so when Danny was in the hospital and needing Bobby, I couldn’t believe he just left for a month!! But of course Danny would wait for him…. Cuz he loved him and all that… but I thought jeez, what a way to stand by your man!

BUT, all in all, this story was just another good addition to an already great series. It wasn’t my favorite, but I’m glad the loose ends got tied up, I’m glad they caught the person responsible for hurting Bobby and I’m really glad that Danny and Bobby found each other, they both deserved the happily ever after and I wouldn’t mind reading more about these two, without all the drama; I hope we get updated in the next book… Brenden perhaps? We shall see! Looking forward to more!

This is a really cute, very low angst installment to our “newly gay” and “rent boy” saga, also known as the Men of Manhattan.

Danny is a police officer, and already gay, who met Bobby (aka B) one time and just “knew” he was going to be important in his life. When the serial murderer going after rent boys really begins to up the body count, Danny goes undercover but needs Bobby’s help. Together they help to find the bad guy and fall in love doing it.

I thought it was fun and sweet. It moved along at a great pace and even the little blip where Bobby felt he wasn’t good enough for Danny was over fairly quickly.

If you’ve been enjoying the series you’ll definitely want to pick this one up and if you’re new to it, you can probably read this as a standalone, though there are loads of previous MCs in this, so having read the books before will give their presence more meaning.

He's Worth It

This is an intense exciting read. Bobby came too close to death so he's decided to do something safer. Danny's been asked to go undercover to find the serial killer. While Bobby was in the hospital, Danny came to see him several times until he checked out and disappeared. Neither one of them have been able to forget about each other. They are going to go through some frightening circumstances before they can come together. If you enjoy M/M and a very good suspense, this is your read. Enjoy I did.

This book did not hold up that well; I remember really loving it and this time it was…okay. Danny and Bobby are working together to try to catch a killer but even I couldn’t suspend my disbelief in some of the ways they skirted the rules and how clues just happened to fall in their laps. Eye rolling indeed. Doubt I read this one again…

love the first six books of this series and I've been waiting for Danny's story.

But It takes a whole week for me to finished this book. It was good but I'm looking for more MC's chemistry and more intensity.

But still I'm gonna wait for more books from this series.

I'm so done with this series. The last two books were roughly the same. Too sweet, to repetitive and it felt like it was written in a weekend. The beginning of this series was refreshing and fun, now it's just boring and lackluster. Trying to push out too many books at once perhaps?

3.5 stars..An good story from this author.. finding a serial killer is the objective but it's an added bonus if love rears its head.  Hmm yah i figured out who the killer was at start. I did find the same coincidences likes for them both enoying almost spoiling it..
Bobby worked at a bar waitressing on Fire Island, he'd escaped the city life for more quiet. The city had cases of rent boys being murdered lately, he was almost a victim with them.. Being rescued by two cops Tiernan and a gorgeous officer Danny..Bobby now 19 yrs .
Officer Danny 25yrs was about to go undercover with 10 rent boys dead they had to find the killer. And he wanted Danny to help him.. They make a great team..

This was one of those books as your reading it you can already know what the outcome was going to be. I knew who the serial killer was before it was revealed. The author didn't leave much choice. For some reason although the storyline and plot was pretty good I felt like it was mixing something the other prior five books had that this one didn't. I'm a little disappointed by the last two books in the installment. At times I felt the story drag and in some cases fast forwarded to quick for my taste. Mix feelings about this one. I'm thinking this series has run its course.

Great series

Love Sandrine and all her books. This is probably my favorite of the series. Something about Danny just captivated me from his first introduction, and he's become my favorite character in this series. These stories jumped around and moved a little fast for me in places, but still loved them. Looking forward to the next one!

I was not feeling this one. I like both Bobby and Danny as characters, I enjoyed them in the other books but their relationship didn't work for me. It starts off way too fast and feels insta lovey. The timeline and the events taking place in the book happen really fast in a very unrealistic way. I don't know I found it hard to become invested in the story because it all just seemed unbelievable. I mean its not a bad book and it was nice to catch up with some of the other characters in the series but I didn't like this one as much as some others. I think there is another one coming if the hint in this book is anything to go by and that relationship seems like is going to be interesting so of course I'll read it.

I was more charmed, as much as I remember, by the first three books in this series. These more recent ones aren't giving me the "silly but amusing" vibe I had before. This tried to be a little more serious, with a serial killer hunt and Danny and Bobby working undercover as rent boys. The whole police procedure, mystery plot, discovering the killer became way too full of grating, annoying plot holes. The plot was manipulated to fit the story, which I could have chalked up to artistic license, because after all, it's not a serious murder mystery.

The Danny and Bobby relationship grated more. Too many instances of "OMG! You like that TOO?!"(I'm paraphrasing of course). An avalanche of coincidence. The course of them being together, combined with the police work absurdity went too far OTT. Added to that were more amazingly coincidental connections to precious characters...Gah! However, it was entertaining to an extent, waiting to see if the killer was who I guessed it would be. But the whole thing was based on pretzel logic, which hit my annoy button too hard to do more than barely like it.

This is book seven in the Men of Manhattan series, and is written in pure Gasq-Dion fashion. This author is the queen of the series, in that she does really well with multiple individual stories and couplings, all the while keeping a loose but overarching thread of continuity between them. We have met both of these main character’s in previous books, Danny Finnegan in A Healing Man, and Bobby Laughlin in A Selfless Man. Does that mean you have to read those books to understand this one? No, but you may have a minute or two of confusion that will clear as the story progresses. As with each of this authors’ series, it really is best if you start with number one and work your way onward, as her characters and storylines do overlap. Besides, they are all really good, so it’s not as if it will be a hardship!

Danny Finnegan is twenty-five, but facially, he looks like he is a teenager. His place on the police force has been hard won, and he is proud of what he has managed to accomplish. Rent boys are dying, there have been ten deaths so far, and the force is starting to look bad. Danny knows he can make a difference by going undercover as one of the prostitutes, working the streets to stop this killer.

Bobby Laughlin is the “one that got away”. He is the one rent boy that has managed to live after his attack. He’s left the rent boy life behind and is waiting tables in a friend’s bar. When he is approached to help Danny blend into the streets and show him the ropes, Bobby very reluctantly agrees.

Working and living together in a live-or-die situation helps both men to give in to earlier attractions. These two guys are just so cute together. I really loved Danny in his first appearances in A Healing Man, and couldn’t wait for his story. He has an infectious sense of humor and a strong sense of honor. Bobby is perfect for him, and I really hope they make appearances as a couple in future books of the series. Bobby, being nineteen, has turned his life around and I would love to see how he matures. Was this my favorite of the series? No. But it was still a really good and interesting read. I love how this author weaves her characters and storylines—I must as I have all of her books in this series, and others.

Don’t think too deep with these books: nothing wrong with hot guys, hot sex, and predictable but interesting storylines. The serial killer is not the focus here; the relationship between the two MCs is. I definitely recommend this book, as well as the others in the series. Read them all in order; you won’t be disappointed.

(Originally reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews.)

I was happy to see a seventh book in the Men of Manhattan series. I knew it was coming out at roughly the same time as the sixth book which I reviewed a couple weeks ago, but knowing and having in my grubby little hands are two totally different things. I really like Ms. Gasq-Dion’s books and this series in particular. I’m going to be honest though, that this latest one didn’t hold my attention as much as the previous ones (particularly the first few.) It was still a good read, but not quite as enthralling in my opinion, as the previous ones.

In An Honorable Man the focus moves over to Bobby Laughlin the friend of Ryan from Book Six. Bobby, like Ryan, was a rent-boy, working the streets and was almost murdered by the serial killer who has been preying on young rent-boys in that previous book. He was rescued by Tiernan Callahan, who you will remember best as one of the two main characters back in Book Five, A Healing Man. Tiernan’s partner on the police force is a young man named Danny Finnegan. When Tiernan rescued Bobby after the attempted murder, Danny spent days at Bobby’s bedside, but he lost track of Bobby when Bobby left the hospital.

Now Danny is going to go undercover to try to flush out the serial killer preying on the young rent-boys of the city. The death count is rising and something must be done. To fit in and learn the ropes, Danny approaches Bobby who is now working as a waiter out on Fire Island. When Bobby agrees to help, neither young man realizes what a roller coaster they are about to climb onto.

I liked this book. I kind of suspected who the serial killer was before they were finally revealed, but not until close to the end of the book…and it was a good lead up. I liked the tale of these two men. I’m not sure if there is another installment coming at some point in this series. I’ve got a couple who I suspect might be next…a certain straight man and a certain drag queen?

I recommend this entire series. It is my favorite from Ms. Gasq-Dion.

An Honorable Man follows Bobby and Danny. We’ve met them both in the previous book/books. Danny Finnegan is Tiernan Callahan’s (A Healing Man) partner on the police force. Bobby worked the streets with Ryan (A Selfless Man) as a rent boy. Bobby and Danny have already met when the readers catch up to them here in their own book.

The serial killer is still on the loose and the number of dead rent boys is quickly escalating. Officer Finnegan has been approached by his superior officers to go under cover and work the case from that angel. Danny has the looks of a twelve year old and could easily be mistaken for a rent boy with the right clothes and some assistance from someone who has actually worked the streets selling his body for sex.

Ever since he was attacked (in A Selfless Man) Bobby has been laying low in a different zip code. The serial killer got far too close to him once and he isn’t going to let it happen again. He did the only thing he knew to do, he skipped town. He doesn’t trust easily and he most certainly doesn’t trust the cops. The first person to catch up to hiatus Bobby is a cop, Danny. Bobby’s first instinct is to run, especially when the cop is asking him to help him, his department, and an entire investigation.

The Men of Manhattan books that I’ve read up to this point would have easily worked as a stand-alone. An Honorable Man does work as a stand-alone, but some of the activities of the serial killer do take place in the previous book. The serial killer part of the plot does not have enough significance to leave a reader confused if they were to jump into the series with this book.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

3.5 Stars

Book 7 in the Men of Manhattan series and as I say after reading each one I would recommend you start at the beginning and read them in order as the characters from the previous books do pop up and make appearances.

An Honorable Man picks up where we left the story in A Selfless Man with a serial killer still on the loose that has all the rent boys afraid – especially the ones who work for Royal. Bobby is one of Royals boys but he has taken off and is working for Butch in his bar where he at least feels a modicum of safety. That feeling doesn’t last long though when the Police come knocking on his door asking for his help and he comes face to face with Officer Danny Finnegan who he hasn’t seen since he left the hospital.

Danny Finnegan is one of the younger faces in his job but it’s a job he loves and one that means a lot to his family. Out and proud he takes no nonsense learning to fight and having the ability to protect himself early on to make sure he always stayed safe when the bigots got up in his face. He’s a fun character that brings a lot of laughter to the story and has a whacky sense of humour that keeps his family and work colleagues amused.

This is a quick and sweet read with very little conflict. They fall in love fast and everything is pretty easy for them – except for the part that a serial killer is trying to kill Bobby. I always enjoy seeing characters from previous books in a series and that is pretty much guaranteed with this author as the story arc for each series grows. If you are a fan of Sandrine I am pretty sure you will enjoy An Honorable Man.
