Everything has a price, and the price of truth is steepest of all.

Eden has an ironclad five-year plan. In three months, she’s saying good riddance to Los Angeles and returning to the Pacific Northwest for medical school. Nothing is going to get in her way.

Nothing… but the impossible.

When she glimpses her doppelgänger at a party, the seemingly accidental meeting turns her life in a direction she never imagined, shredding everything she knows about herself and where she comes from.

The one constant in her collapsing world is Liam Rourke, a man whose dark desires are matched only by his tenderness. But Liam is more than a master in the bedroom—he’s a master of lies.

Uncovering the truth might cost Eden her life.

Her family.

Her love.

Some things are worth dying for.

Author's Note: Double Vision is a dark romance. Before you experience the story of Eden and Liam, please take heed of the following content warning: This novel contains themes which may be difficult for some readers. description~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~
So holy sh!tballs was this book FAN-F-CKING-TASTIC. How on earth have I not read anything by this author before??!! I am seriously speechless right now. This is probably one of THE best books I have read in a long time. I frigging LOVED it <--- obviously (lol). It was fantastically well written. It is a fairly long book, but the pace was perfect. The plot was super engaging and kept me turning the pages. In fact, I read this one cover to cover in one go. The timeline bounces back and forth from past to present. Which you know if you follow my reviews I usually HATE. That said, in this instance, it was seamlessly done and the "Present" chapters added a lot of mystery and drama. There were also twists and turns galore. Violence. Secrets. Lies. Murder. Torture. BDSM. Mafia. Heartbreak. Redemption, and so much more. And the ending, well that was pretty much the perfect cherry on top of an amazing book.

~HERO~
LIAM...good lord I don't even know where to begin with this guy. He was a complex character that is for sure. The author does a good job of keeping you guessing as to his motives. The secrets he is keeping. The lies. Is he to be trusted? Is he not? On top of all that he was sexy as f-ck. A smokin hot alpha Dom. I loved him. I hated him. I loved him again. He was an amazingly well developed anti-hero.

~HEROINE~
EDEN...Just as well written. Just as complex. Just an intriguing as her male counterpart. I loved Eden as well. This poor girls heart and life get ripped to shreds. I wanted to hug her. I wanted to tell her to wake the f-ck up. So many times during this book I didn't know which direction the author was going in regard to Eden's character. My fingernails are no more. But she pulled it off because I couldn't think of a more fitting ending for Eden. She was a fighter for sure.

description

~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~
There was a really good array of secondary characters in this one. Some play larger roles than others. A lot of them intrigued me enough that I would love to read more about them. London and Dominic for example. I also loved Raul and Karina. Each one of them no matter how small or large a part they played added fantastic layers to the plot and keep the story moving.

~HEAT LEVEL~
Medium. The sex scenes were suitably spicey and moderate in frequency. Most of them are BDSM based. The author warns in her Author's Note that there is dubious consent but "I" didn't really see anything that "I" would consider DC. But that was just my interpretations.

~ANGST LEVEL~
High. This is a pretty angsty read. It's a dark book with a lot of secrets. Push and pull. Lies. Heartache. That said, the angst never came from OW or OM drama. Neither were virgins and their sexual pasts weren't really discussed. Both

~IN THE END~
I LOVED IT. Clearly. I don't think I could possibly fangirl harder (lol). It was just a fantastic read. Amazing writing. Amazing plot. Amazing characters. Hot sex. Tons of feels. Perfect ending. Yours truly is giving this one two HUGE thumbs up. And, I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for what this author has in store for us next.description

HEA?

I’ve fallen into the minority category with this rating.

The glowing reviews for this book were burning up my feed and I thought I’d give this book a shot after reading the author’s warning:

This novel contains themes which may be difficult for some readers. These elements include BDSM, criminal activity, dubious consent, violence, torture, and explicit sex.

Naturally, that warning only sparked my curiosity!

OYBQ9.gif

This book had a smorgasbord of avenues laid out for a romantic suspense story:

► The discovery of an identical twin
► Surprising mobster ties
► Missing diamonds
► Rich bf with slightly kinky sexual desires
► A good bit of yes-sir-good-girl talk

Unfortunately, all of those elements tossed in together and the writing style made for a slightly disorganized feel. This story had good bones but there was much glossed over and underdeveloped. Was this a BDSM book? A captor/captive book? A mafia story?

vmaW9.gif

The focus of the story seemed scattered. There was an attempt to incorporate too much and it all felt more superficial than solid. Divided into two parts, part two of this book began with a six-year time jump—one of many, actually. The text shifted between THEN and NOW with a choppy feel and one too many fade to black scene endings at pivotal moments! I think the main characters were supposed to have this epic, forbidden, and dark romantic affair paired with mind-blowing family secrets revealed along the way, but I became bored long before finally reading that last chapter.

OYeWZ.gif

I didn’t feel the connection between the main characters and this story was very light on the darkness scale. The intensity just wasn’t there and it seemed like there was too much going on that felt under-explored or contrived.

Wow, what a ride!

“Oh,” I say flatly, “you’re one of those.” An eyebrow twitches. “One of what?” “A Neanderthal who thinks women like being bossed around.”

“Are you seriously pulling the chauvinist card on me? I will break your fucking face.”

Liam me deixou em conflito muitas e muitas vezes!

“Men like Liam feed off control. They don’t play the game with us mortals. They create the game board. Sometimes they like to flip it upside down and watch us fall.”

“We are here. We are now. And there is no fate but that we make for ourselves.”

Rating:

Eden Sumner was ready for a change. After a few years alone in the city she decided to go back home to pursue the future she had planned. But a chance encounter with someone unexpected irrevocably changed the course of her life weather she wanted it or not.

Liam Rourke was no stranger to changes and uncertainties. Detachment worked best for his lifestyle until he felt the unlikely connection with Eden. But how could things work when their world was surrounded by deceptions and lies?

Liam is the sun. Vivid and warming. He makes me forget. He blots out the past and future and recolors my entire world.

Liam was a pretty sexy character especially when his Irishness came out. I like how he was firm but not pushy.

This isn’t romance—it’s war. One army fighting itself. Me against me.

Eden started well for me. It was interesting to see how she was thrown into something she had no control of. However, as the story progressed a lot of time I was baffled by her actions/decisions especially considering the situation she was in.

“I want to keep you, Eden. I want to own you. And if that makes me a brute, so be it.”

This book had a lot of potentials. Unfortunately it lacked focus and intensity. There were several different elements included that only scratched the surface. There was also BDSM element that was simply off and wasn't really needed. The storyline was there. It just needed to be connected and tightened up.

He was right—this isn’t the movies. This is real. This is my life. And I’ll be damned if I’m going to give it up without a fight.

Double Vision is a story of adapting and surviving. It would appeal to fans of romantic suspense with dark elements.

So here’s the thing about L.M. Halloran... ever since I read her book Breaking Giants, I just trust her as an author. That being said I went into Double Vision blind. I didn’t read the blurb. I didn’t read any other reviews. I just dove right in when I got my copy. Well it was worth it. This story was SUCH a fantastic read. This author ALWAYS pours her everything into her writing and you can absolutely tell. Not only is Double Vision a high stakes suspenseful rollercoaster, but there is also a deep love story that is truly unique to the two MC’s. There are characters you’re not sure whether or not to trust. So much deceit and lies take place throughout this story. The writing flows so well that I never wanted to stop reading. This book is pretty long, and I finished in a day. There are time jumps that feel a bit confusing when you’re reading, but will make perfect sense by the middle/end of the book.i

I personally think it’s best to go in blind, so I will give you some quick details and let you decide from there.

- mafia adjacent
- dom/sub, and I don’t really ENJOY that and I LOVED the way it’s done in this book
- secrets and lies
- blood and violence
- a few things that could be considered triggers

That pretty much sums it up from a vague standpoint. What I will say is that if you enjoy suspense focused mafia adjacent romance then Double Vision is a good read for you. It’s well written and will have you turning pages like they are on fire!

“No, little siren, you’re breaking free.”

And….breathe! WOW What a fabulously twisty, sexy, emotional, heart stopping and all round bloody fantastic read Double Vision was! We felt as though we held our breath until the last page!

L.M. Halloran exemplifies why we love trying new authors! This is the third book we’ve read from this talented author since her first release last year! Each book has been vastly different – from rock star romance, professor/student forbidden love to her new offering, an edge of your seat gripping, cat and mouse, romantic suspense set around the Irish Mafia, with lies, deceit, passion, duplicity and a story where nothing…and we mean nothing is as it seems. Our minds were working overtime trying to anticipate how Liam and Eden’s story was going to end. And yet nothing prepared us for the ride we were embarking on!

“Men like Liam feed off control. They don’t play the game with us mortals. They create the game board. Sometimes they like to flip it upside down and watch us fall.”

L.M. Halloran is a chameleon, and she is the real deal. A truly talented and terrific storyteller, her writing is nothing short of stellar and in this story she battered our hearts, put our stomachs in knots and just when we thought…can she really wrap this story up to our expectations? She went and delivered a fabulous ending, and kick arse epilogue……seriously….we were goners! Brilliant. Wonderfully brilliant perfection, and a perfect way to end Liam and Eden’s chaotic love story..sigh….

“It’s my fault. I made you the center of my universe. But you’re a man, not a god. Men aren’t meant to be worshipped.”
“No, we’re not.”

Twenty Two year old, Eden Sumner was a vulnerable yet tough young lady contemplating her future as she is ready to embark on her final stint of medical school. There is an internal battle going on with Eden. Part of her is ready for her next step, part of her is hesitant. There is a part of Eden that’s confused about her desires, her need to be dominated. Men like Liam Rourke are her weakness!

I blurt “What do you want from me?”
He doesn’t look at me when he says, “More than I should.”
‘That makes two of us.’

Out on a rare night with friends, Eden encounters the handsome, wealthy and somewhat dangerous Liam Rourke…oh dear, be still our beating book hearts…Liam Mathias Rourke….what a man…what a sexy, complicated, commanding, mysterious and utterly fascinating man, at a party. Liam recognises something in Eden he desires to explore. Eden finds herself demanding her needs from Liam.

‘He’s the sun, dissolving my darkness and filling me with molten light.’

Was their meeting accidental or something else entirely? Is either Eden or Liam who they think or say they are? Are they hiding secrets? Well, we’re not going to reveal anything to you except to say…strap yourselves in for a ride full of emotion, excitement, suspense and heat.

“I’ve often wondered if it wasn’t me that found you but the other way around.”

There’s so much we’d love to tell you about this story, however, to experience the heart pumping adrenaline spiking story you need to go in blind. Trust us, you’ll thank us for that advice! We can tell you Eden and Liam’s love story will test you, tempt you and torture you…in the best possible way. Irish mobsters, a complicated love story, duplicitous characters all make this one fabulous journey!

Fellow readers, if you haven’t already, be sure to give this incredibly talented author a 1click because with her latest offering, she has just catapulted herself to the top of our TBB favourite author list!

I went into this expecting romantic suspense but I felt it heavier on romantic than suspense and then it turned out to be BDSM. I can’t do all of them in one, so I quit!

It was an Ok read.

I’m going to kick this off saying that if I had read this story a few years ago, I know the result would have been different, probably 4 Stars. However, over a thousand books happened since then and the truth is that I’m a bit hardened and jaded by dark and twisted reads. Therefore, ignore my opinion and give this a go.

I wasn’t expecting this to be so heavy on the mafia theme. I wouldn’t have read it, otherwise. I feel that I’m done with this overused theme which in a way makes my opinion biased. It was too late when I realized that. The good thing is that despite that, the story was interesting enough to make me finish it.

Here are my niggles:

.) Liam Rourke was a slippery character. I couldn’t grasp him. His bad guy persona didn’t mesh with the personality we were shown sometimes. He was inconsistent. Who was he really? Sometimes he seemed sleazy and shady, others a good guy. I needed more from him. What made him thick? What did he see in Eden? I didn’t get their connection, which gets me to my next point.

.) insta-love, a trope I am no fan of.
.) The 6-year time gap in the story was a bit of a nonsense to me. I don’t get why it happened.
.) I could have done without the BDSM.
.) The way Elizabeth decided to reappear. She was meticulously careful in planning her escape with Eden and keeping herself hidden for over 18/20 years, to then, break hysterical in a hospital looking for Eden. Another inconsistency.
.) There was a loose end regarding the diamonds given to Eden. I don’t get how Alex the bitch would get hold of it or any other person. Did I miss something? Wasn’t the money in a bank acc? Could anyone go there and take it?
.) There are only a handful of good moments in this book. I didn’t get a chance to see the MCs happy, not until the last few pages.

As I said up there, don't let my opinion get in your way if you like mafia books. I’m clearly in the minority. Give this a go.

3.5 Stars!

Upon graduating college, Eden Sumner is ready to relocate back to the Pacific Northwest for medical school but upon attending a party one night, her fate forever changes after meeting two people. Inquisitive by nature, Eden’s life takes a much different course.

“Loyalty comes at a great cost, usually paid for in blood.”

Liam Rourke is a man with many answers and abilities. Though full of Irish charm, he isn’t a stranger to dangerous situations. Upon laying eyes on Eden, he knows the imminent risks.

“But it’s the look in his eyes that peels back my layers and finds the dark center of me.”

What ensues is full of action and deception with Liam and Eden trying to navigate through a web of greed. Feeling a fairly instant connection, each of their choices are based on protecting the other but soon it becomes apparent that no one can be trusted.

“No matter how far you fly, little dove, you’ll always come home to me.”

With continuous action, Eden learns much more about her past than she could have ever envisioned. Making choices that aren’t necessarily in her best interest, she tries to remain true to her heart despite the consequences.

While I enjoyed this story, there were times when it felt like too much was trying to be squeezed into the plot and it left a superficial impression. Though I liked Liam’s character, I also wanted more sexiness and since he is also a Dom, more exploration of his kink. Eden seemed contradictory at times even knowing she isn’t a part of this underworld.

Double Vision is about being true to yourself and standing up for what you believe. This book would appeal to those looking for a romantic suspense.

4 STARS!!
He is the sun, blotting out the shadows in my soul.
Despite a bit of a rocky start for me, Double Vision turned out to be 100% worth my time and money! Be prepared for a dark, BDSM, mafia thrill ride.

Eden has just graduated from UCLA and is on her way to med school in the next few months. One night at a party, two seemingly unconnected encounters - one with a handsome man, and one with a woman who could pass for her twin - change the course of her life forever.

The next day, Liam, the guy from the party, shows up at her work and she agrees to go on a date with him against her better judgment; she knows his type is her kryptonite:
He stands absolutely still and relaxed, exuding the easy confidence of a man who's sure of his place in the world. Not arrogance - deeper. Born not of external trappings like wealth or a handsome face, but of inner discipline.
I think the strength of this novel comes from its characters. Eden is a strong-willed, driven, and self-assured woman, who very rarely indulges in her need to submit to a man. This may sound like a million other books you've read, but I thought the author did a great job of giving the D/s aspect a fresh, non-violent spin. Sexually, Liam understands Eden and treats her with the respect she deserves.

In ALL other aspects of the plot, Liam was a complete enigma. In fact, throughout the ENTIRE book, the reader has no idea who to trust or what to believe. This led to perhaps a few implausibilities with all the twists and turns going on, but I was content to sit back and let everything unfold.

Where I thought the story stumbled a bit was in the first 30-35% while Eden and Liam were getting know each other. There wasn't enough meaningful dialogue between them and for some reason, the author didn't allow their relationship to unfold on a linear timeline. It wasn't confusing, but it didn't allow me to feel the connection between Eden and Liam like I should have. I didn't really become invested in them - either individually or as a couple - until after that point - but then, boy, do things pick up!

Double Vision was unique and definitely well-written. I’ll be reading more from this author in the future for sure!

This is my first read by this author and after reading this it certainly won’t be my last as I absolutely loved it.

From start to finish I was captivated by Liam and Edens story. I love when I read a book that has me holding my breath and pulling on my different emotions. This author did that to me.

I believe this is gonna be one of my favourite reads this year. Definitely worth a re read or three. I cannot praise the author highly enough. If triggers don’t bother you jump in and enjoy.
I’m looking forward to reading more from this author. I’ll definitely be looking into what else she’s written.

Have you ever read a book and just said wow? There was more to say but there was WOW. Double Vision threw me for a loop. I LOVED every minute of it. I kept on waiting and waiting to finish the story because I didn't want to let Eden and Liam go. How do you say goodbye to awesome characters? They had their flaws but they were absolutely perfect.

I knew when I saw the cover and read a book teaser that the story had my attention. I didn't notice the amount of pages. I didn't notice the amount of chapters. I wanted to see how Eden's story was going to play out. I wanted to see if Liam and Eden could find an symbolize of a happily ever after. The reason why I loved the story so much is because the writing was utterly fantastic. The Now and Then woven through the story kept me on the edge. The characters were so complex. There was nothing basic on how they were structured. I can't wait to read more from this author. She knows how to tell a story and make you want more.

"My universe is simple and pure. I'm empty. He fills me. I need him"
I just love the cover. it represents Eden so vividly and give a hint for both her state of mind' her reality and confusion about people in her life and surprising revelation she gets. And then there's that pink standing out on the black and white for she is fierce and bright and full of life.
Sometimes while reading, I had the feeling this book could not decide what it is. I would say it is Romantic Suspense. You have some Bdsm in It. You get it as a fact… but it only touches that subject, not exploring it and it is actually there to explain the characters motivations so maybe it was part of my double vision…. The book starts light dark, continues as mafia with a touch of torture – and concludes in self-revelation for both characters.
I needed more of Liam's pov – that one paragraph in the end was not enough. I didn't really get to know him' just of him….
I loved the characters but felt the wall they feel is also mine – I didn't "feel" them" and couldn't identify which surprised me a lot - until just before the end when I finally "heard" Halloran special voice and perception of life.
I liked the fall before the flight much more
Gave it 4* because I did enjoy it but I didn't get that extra thing I expected.

This book started out great, but kind of lost its way around the halfway mark. There was too much going on, and the choppy flashbacks didn't quite work for me. I'm tired of books with BDSM & sex clubs as a side plot, this story didn't need it and actual took away from an intriguing plot.

This wasn't a winner for me, but I'd be interested in reading something else by this author.

Eden Sumner just graduated from college and is waiting to go to medical school.  With a few months left on her lease she works two jobs and is counting down the days to get out of L.A.  Little does she know that her world is about to be turned upside down.  At a party she never intended to go to she sees a handsome stranger, the next day that stranger finds her, Liam Rourke.  They begin a very unconventional relationship that will lead to nowhere because she must leave for school.  When the day arrives, Liam doesn’t want her to go for more than one reason.  Liam insists it isn’t safe; Eden is about to find out all about lost families, greed, criminals, betrayal, torture and love. Now she just must figure out who to believe and who she can trust.  Will she ever be safe?

Double Vision is not the average BDSM romance story.  This is a dark, erotic thriller that will kept me on the edge of my seat.  With each word I read I was pulled further into the twisted deceptions of the characters that I was sure I could trust.  This was so addictive that I couldn’t put it down.  L.M Halloran was able to bring the characters to life and make me feel like I was there with them.  I look forward to reading more of her stories.  I give Double Vision 5 stars and would give more if possible.

I'll preface this by saying I'm not normally a lover of dark romances, but I'll read anything by L.M. Halloran the minute I can get my hands on it. And Double Vision does not disappoint! The switch from the past to the heroin's current situation had me thoroughly confused in the best of ways. No boring, predictable storyline here. What hooked me the most was Halloran's exquisite progression of the characters throughout the story. Their growth was believable, painful, and beautiful all at the same time. This is a story that will stay with you long after you finish the last page. Halloran will become your newest one-click author, I promise!!

First let me just say I went into this book having no clue who this author was. That being said the cover and the title are what drew me In and made me want to check it out. This book was everything I had hoped for and more.
Dark, suspenseful, and sexy. A 2018 favorite.
From the first page I was sucked in and page after page it became even harder to put down.
Eden & Liam’s story is anything but perfect but it was amazing! There were times my heart would completely break yet a couple of pages later be so full.

I have only read two L.M. Halloran’s books and they never fail me, her words are amazing. I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with!

This story really has no words I can give you to explain how much I loved it. It’s a book everyone needs to read for themselves. One I can promise you won’t regret.

Oh holy shit!
I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review.
And honestly..it's awesome! so many twists and turns, Eden thinks her life is plain sailing...but when she goes to a party with a work friend..her whole life gets switched upside down! is Liam her saviour or her down fall, nothing is as what it seems.
It's a great book to start off the new year with...when you have had enough of the holiday cheer....this book brings you back down with a bump,
I give this book
5 down dark and dirty stars *****

I was unable to connect with the hero and the heroine. I felt that any "feelings" the hero had for the heroine were out of obligation. Also, the heroine was supposed to be this smart woman, but I found her "stupid" in her decisions. I was unable to connect. The twin thing also annoyed me and became predictable. When I asked reviewers to help me understand certain parts of the story, I got no response. Too many ARC reviews, that is the problem. Good luck.
My opinion. You may love it. Reading is subjective.

ARC received from author for an honest review

Holy Shitballs Batman!

I new from the blurb that this was going to be a darker, heavier read, and it was just what I was after.

Liam and Eden's story is not all hearts and flowers. It is mobsters, it is secrets and lies, it is always looking over your shoulder.

Liam is not your every day knight in shining armour - more like the guy you don't know whether you should run from or to. As we learn more about him the more I liked him.

Eden is seeing more of the down and dirty side of life. Everyone seem shady. Who can she trust? Love, lies, greed all pack a punch in Double Vision.

Smart writing, intelligent, suspenseful plot, great characters, Double Vision is another great read from Ms Halloran.

Can't wait to see what she brings us next.

It had been a while since I had last read a dark romance so when I heard that L.M Halloran's new release was going to be in this genre I was intrigued and excited to return to one of my favourite kinds of romance. With this book L.M has delivered a gripping tale of love, secrets, lies and it contained a nail-biting conclusion that made me fear the worst. "Double Vision" is a book that you are going to want to clear your schedule for because you won't want to stop reading. I made the mistake of reading this during a very busy weekend and it frustrated the hell out of me that I couldn't devour the entire book in one go.

"He is the sun, blotting out the shadows in my soul."

This was my third read from this author and I was not disappointed. Each book that I've read so far by L.M have been completely different proving what a versatile author she is, easily able to change things up with each new novel. Her books are always beautifully written too. With poetic words that I adore reading over and over again. This author just gets better and better with each new book. She has quickly become one of my favourites.

"Until you tell me to stop, I'll follow you. To hell and back if necessary.
I serve at your whim, Eden Sumner."

The story of Eden and Liam was exciting, mysterious, sexy and at times made my stomach churn. I loved Eden, she was a strong, courageous woman who also had a submissive side to her that was only for Liam. Liam made me fall head over heels in love with him. I loved everything about him, even his dark side. Eden and Liam made the perfect couple, with a gorgeous love story developing between the pair. There was just a whole lot of drama that Eden and Liam had to contend with, so many moments when my heart stopped as I couldn't see how a future was possible for Eden and Liam. It truly was an edge-of-your-seat kind of read.

."I'm broken, Liam."
"No, little siren. You're breaking free."

If you love dark romance this is an absolute must read.

"Beneath my diamond shell, I'm shattered. A million flecks of blackest dust."

I saw the 5 stars this was getting & great reviews, so I was excited when I saw dark romance.

Loved the beginning. I enjoyed Liam. Eden, she wasn't my favourite. It just felt a bit hit n miss. Choppy, jumping from one place to another with not much of an explanation. And I didn't like the jump in time. Wasn't really a dark romance to me. I've read a lot darker. But I did enjoy it. I'll try more from the author.
