Blurb: When Shay Campbell flees her abusive boyfriend and ends up in the middle of nowhere, she stumbles upon an unoccupied cabin. At least she thinks it's unoccupied. That is, until NFL Quarterback Josh Wisner shows up. Too bad he thinks she's a groupie who's broken into his house.
After kicking her out, Josh has second thoughts, but with her ex hunting her, Shay will have to decide if she's safer with Josh or out on her own.
Illegal Procedure is a sweet, standalone sports romance.
I love their crazy imagination. I did find one typo. Chapter 34 a line by Will. Her vs here He’s lived her for a while, so the info was out there for anyone to find.”
Now that Shay Campbell has left her abusive boyfriend, she is determined to start over and build a good life for herself. Her original plan begins to crumble when she ends up stranded in the middle of nowhere with only the clothes on her back. Thankfully, she finds an empty cabin in the woods.
Josh Wisner, a quarterback in the NFL, is ready to relax for a few weeks before preseason training begins. When he finds someone at his cabin, he’s sure it must be a groupie and just wants to be rid of her. But Josh has second thoughts, and Shay must decide if she should trust him, or if she’s better off on her own.
Shay is sweet, vulnerable, stubborn, and just plain cute. She isn’t used to a guy being kind and genuine, so she has a difficult time trusting Josh. It doesn’t help that she can tell he’s hiding something. (It was fun to see her ideas as to what that could be.) I really ached for her, and loved watching her gain confidence and begin to stand up for herself.
Josh is a great guy! He basically gave Shay whiplash in the beginning with his indecision about letting her stay, but even then his good heart was evident. I loved watching his feelings for her grow, and his protective side come out.
What a great start to the series! I really liked the book, and didn’t want to stop reading. In it, we briefly meet Brock Remington, who’s story will be next. I’m already looking forward to that one. I have a feeling this is going to be a very good series!
I received a free copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
Illegal Procedure is a well written, clean romance and despite dealing with the seamier side of physical abuse, the story conveys the stress that Shay is feeling without majoring on the graphic details. As Shay escapes with minimal personal possessions, she loses those along the way and finds herself stranded with very little money and no extra clothing. Shay is dumped in the middle of nowhere and she starts to walk. When she reaches the point of desperation, she finds an unoccupied cabin. Josh arrives home and like Papa Bear, finds Goldilocks sleeping in his bed. He is furious, but the fear in Shay’s eyes makes him rethink his original thoughts about her. Both Shay and Josh are hiding secrets about their true lives and both make assumptions about the other which lead to misunderstandings. However, in the process, Shay realises that she has a choice over her future and she is no longer the broken woman she was when she left Will. This is a sweet story about healing and redemption and finding ones feet again. It is also part of a series but can be read as a standalone novel. There is a message for all of us, that we are valuable human beings and none of us deserves to endure abuse at the hands of another. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
DNF after like 50 pages. Who the fuck does the girl think she is? She gets mad, after breaking into a house, that the owner of said house wont let her stay? even though he actually let her stay the night... she gets mad that he isnt watching her leave? like what the hell? you broke into his house, you should be great full he isnt calling the police bitch... Also, who takes notice of how hot a guy is when she broke into his house. no thinking about the police or nothing, she think about how she looks in profile and weather it would be a plus for her if he thinks she is attractive. Get real. Really could't with this book. these first few pages just pissed me off so much, the way she acted like she had a right to be mad at him for kicking her out. terrible, terrible.
Shay escapes an abusive bf without a plan. She tries hitchhiking and ends up on the side of the road without her luggage and only flipflops on her feet. She finds cabin which she breaks into in order to get water and food.
Josh needs his secluded cabin to rest after football season and doesn't expect to see Shay in his bed. As star quarterback thinks she's a crazy groupie.
They both have trust issues and manage to fall for each other anyway. I kind of don't get the attraction aside from sexual chemistry... which we get none of because this is clean.
Ugh, I hate to leave bad reviews, and rarely do, but this book was just so bad. Completely predictable and so completely repetitive. It was 272 pages, but the entire story could have been told in 40. It read like constant filler. I am grateful that the writer had a strong grasp of the English language, but that’s the only positive in this book.
This was a clean, easy read. The whole story could have been told in half the time, there was so much repetition and the characters going on and on about the same thing. There needed to be more character development and a lotttttt less of the H and h in their own head. Not an author i will read again because of the repetition.
Fun, entertaining and a light fluffy romance. A quick, good read for fall + football season. Barely any football made it into the book but that's perfectly fine by me because I know next to nothing about the sport. As far as sport romances go, 4 🌟.
The fem MC is an idiot. Wandering off down the road with no idea of what to do when (if) she got to Reno? No food or water stuffed into her purse just in case she was separated from her suitcase? Even putting her suitcase in the back of the car where she couldn’t grab it if she needed to leave in a hurry. Idiot. She could have googled women’s shelters in Reno, homeless shelters, jobs etc. I could see if she was living with her abuser and needed to burn rubber immediately (though she could have still made a pit stop at a public library in another town to do her research and make a plan) but she just up and went and flew by the seat of her pants the entire time after. That she didn’t end up dead in a ditch before she even met the male MC is unbelievable. And after she began staying with the male MC she was far too trusting and still very impulsive.
I liked that both MCs had their secrets and were eyeing each other the entire time, that was kind of a fun dynamic.
Unfortunately, as with many 3rd person romances I’ve read, the MCs constantly repeated their thoughts and opinions, and what was worse, the other MC would leave off where the first MC stopped when the book changed perspectives so there was a lot of echoing of thoughts between the MCs too.
It wasn’t a bad story, I just had to suspend my disbelief pretty hard and go with the flow.
I'm really torn about my rating but I think 3 stars is best. I found the characters likeable enough. The setting was easy to picture from the wording. The MCs did seem to go back and forth a long time on the trust issue. If that was such a big deal, the bulk of the story seems implausible. Another thing that kinda bothered me was how the single word 'hot' was used to describe the hero. Did the heroine really have such a limited vocabulary? She didn't seem that dull to me. And the word 'jetison' while being a fabulous word, just seemed out of place. Was the hero a fan of scifi? I like how the story ended, though. And I have to say the fact that it was a clean read helped me get through the whole book much easier. I'd recommend this to someone looking for a quick, clean, contemporary romance read to kill time or meet reading goals.
Shay escapes an abusive relationship but is left with no where to go and very little money. She’s able to hitch a ride but once the guy wants something in exchange for the ride, he dumps Shay out on a road with no cars and no houses for miles. Shay eventually stumbled upon a cabin in the woods and she knocks but no one is around. Needing water badly, she breaks in.
Josh is an NFL Quarterback and during his off season he likes the solitude of his cabin in the woods only now it seems someone has taken over his cabin.
The two have a rough start and withhold information from each other but Even though Josh wants to be alone, he can’t help caring for the wounded beauty who found his cabin.
Shay is on the run and out of options. She breaks into a cabin looking for a drink of water and ended up falling asleep. When Josh finds her, he is convinced that she is a groupie. He comes to discover that he likes her, even enjoys her company, and his suspicions change - he no longer thinks she's a groupie but he knows she's hiding something. When he finally puts together the pieces - that she's clearly running from someone - he sees that all the signs he thought made her suspicious were actually fear. As they learn to trust each other they uncover an unexpected attraction. When Shay's past catches up to them, how will they deal with it? This is a nice, easy read that addresses some fairly heavy topics without dragging the story too dark.
Shay Campbell has had enough of her abusive boyfriend, when she ends up in the middle of nowhere and stumbles upon a cabin that does not looked lived in she enters and sleeps in one of the beds. Little does she know that NFL Quarterback Josh Wisner is the owner of this unoccupied cabin and while she is asleep he come back to rejuvenate.
This was a really cute and short romantic story, I don’t always love little stories as I feel the romance moves so fast that I have a hard time believing it. Having said that, this story is cute and although short it is a great afternoon read and the romance is just right.
Shay had finally had enough with her bf abusing her so she finally was able to sneak out and get away but since she didn't have much money she went as far as she could before walking miles to what she thought was abandoned cabin looking for water. When Josh came home and went to his room he found a woman sleeping there at first he thought it was a fan so he was ready to kick her out but he noticed she was scared and hiding something and mostly had no idea who he was. Over the months they both had secrets and neither wanted to share until it cane to share or never see her again.
Not my favorite. The idea of the main character leaving her abusive boyfriend was instantly what caught my attention but the story didn't really deliver as powerful of a message to me as I wanted. The characters were a bit flat and didn't seem fully fleshed out. I found the dialogue lacking and the insta-love was real even though they held back from saying the actual words for a while. I found it easy to fly through but the plot was just too one note and surface level emotion to me, not one I think I'll pick up again.
5 stars I bought Illegal Procedure by Christine Kersey November 2. 2017 and this review was given freely. Well edited and easy flowing this full length football based sports romance is suspenseful and set in the off season. Shay escapes an abuse relationship and happens upon Josh's cabin in the woods. I enjoyed not only Josh's caring and protective nature but watching Shay obtain a sense of entitlement and self worth as well as learn to trust men and to use her inner strength to carve out a better life for herself.
I liked this book it was sweet and a quick read I found parts of it unrelatable and out of reality but it worked ok to make a good story. This is not a long book and I would have liked them to have more time to get to know each other and really fall in love I thought it was to fast but that is because I don't really like instant love. I understood Shay's issue with intimacy and thought that Josh was a wonderful person to help her overcome these issues it felt rushed but it still was good. I will read the other books I liked that it was not all sex but that there was emotion in it as well.
The whole thing, to me, feels like it's some type of fan fiction or a first writing attempt. Possible spoilers ahead... Shay has just escaped an abusive relationship. While I get that she needed somewhere to be this place is stocked how could she think it was safe to send the night. And Josh comes home to find a girl in his bed and they as each other and he just leaves the room. She just stays there doesn't try to sneak out? Half the stuff these to did did not make any sense. The plot was a good one, poorly executed in my opinion.
Shay is getting away from her abusive boyfriend and she ends up at Josh's place. He is a well known football player but she doesn't know him. But Josh doesn't really know what to think at first. I loved the characters, Shay was so determined and stubborn and Josh was so kind but so cautious at the same time. This is the first book in a series, look forward more of the series. I received an advanced copy of the book.
Illegal Procedure by Christine Kersey is Book One in the new series Fair Catch. It is a wonderful book! I really enjoyed reading it! A sweet & touching love story. Shay & Josh met under unusual circumstances. Both not willing to trust each other. They are very attracted to one another, but still cautious. Can Shay & Josh let their guard down & get to know each other better? A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!
A NFL quarterback finds a woman sleeping in his bed at his recluse cabin she changes his life forever .
A woman leaves her boyfriend after she’s had enough abuse from him . She hits the road with one suitcase with all her belongings in it .She ends up stranded alone without her suitcase an night coming on she needs to find shelter fast . She finds a deserted cabin an breaks in that event changes her life forever .
This was a clean romance - no sex, kisses only. Shay grew on me and I applaud her for her resilience to survive and do things on her own. I immediately like Josh though. There were a few times where something would happen that I would think "That probably wasn't the best action to take." Soon after though the character who had taken that action would come to realize it as well and explain why he/she did what he/she had done. So I applaud the author for that.
I really enjoyed this book. I already have the next one to read. It was deep with back emotion and real circumstances. Great story line. I liked the guy. The girl kind of bugged me with her attitude yet it was understandable with her history of relationships. It was submissive damsel in despair/ power girl. A good story I enjoyed.
I'd give between 3.5-4 stars. I liked the premise of the story and the characters were good. A lot of the chapters were the same.. Not a lot of trust, but why would there be when they just meet a few weeks before.
I liked it enough to finish, which was a great decision. I'll read the other books in the series. Hopefully they are good too.
Although the story line was about an NFL player, it takes place between seasons. He has a cabin up in some hills away from his team. When he got there he found a woman who he thought was a stalker. But after a ruff start they become friends. And what happens when he finds out that she is in trouble and hiding from an abusive ex is this story.
Great story with characters that grab your heart strings and don't let go! Ms. Kersey addresses the subject of abuse with sensitivity and straightforwardness. Friendship, support, encouragement and love are pivotal and this story strikes the perfect balance, a feel good story that you can't put down.
Great read. Couldn't put down, had to read straight through. Josh was such a sweetheart, taking Shay in and letting her stay there. Shay had been through so such. She deserved to be appreciated and taken care of someone who would I've her back and not abuse her. Can't wait to tread the rest of this series.
Illegal Procedure is the first book I've read by Christine Kersey, but won't be the last. This is a fairly quick read with great characters and a creative story line. I loved watching the feelings develop and evolve. Well written and not riddled with errors (yayyy!), so it was easy to get engrossed and read it in one sitting. Great read.
